Now I guess the question is if this is considered an extension of the summer tour, or just a seperate event?
Is ATL really the last stop anymore? (Yes, I know the answer that anyone in the greater NYC area will give... )

ATL won't be the last stop... simply because after Atlanta they have another stop... Hence NYC will be the Last stop :)
Preferred Viewing huh? 250.00 Backstage BBQ... Hmmmm. For that price I better meet the band and get to sit on Dave's lap. :)

Hmm...it doesn't say that this is a WH only section. I wonder how much the scalpers will be asking for these.
Preferred Viewing Section Passes
Be one of a select number of special guests with unique access to the show. Enjoy a Backstage barbecue picnic including beverages. Listen and view the show on dedicated screens and gain access to an exclusive viewing area on the Great Lawn where you may enjoy the show at a close range to the stage. These passes will be available for instant ticketing sales at a price of $250. All net proceeds from the sale of these passes will benefit The Fund for Public Schools - New York City and the Music Resource Center - Charlottesville, VA. Please click here to be taken to the Warehouse instant ticketing page.

The question I have is that the are listing this as series 7, where did series 5 and 6 go, does that mean we have a winter tour that will be allocated as the 5tha nd 6th series? just thinking out loud.

Perhaps Boyd's and Dave's tours, because they were already planned, were already give those numbers. The WH staffers can't possibly be expected to adapt to something so abrupt and huge as an extra date on the tour!

I'm left to wonder how entrance to the Great Lawn is going to be regulated.
I think a lot of fans will just show up at central park and be able to listen to, if not at least see, the show for free w/o paying up.

No, you can still get tickets. But this is going to be like the Sting Central Park show from a couple of years ago. Best Buy was the sponsor, and they had a bunch of people stationed throughout Manhattan with "lottery" type cards, which you stratched off to find out if you got two tickets. I think the chances were about 1 in 5 or 1 in 10. You aren't supposed to keep pulling cards, but if your in the 50s anywhere b/w 8th and 5th, I'm sure you will find plenty of stations. I know that they'll have people stationed in the NYC tourist offices.
This is really incredible. There hasn't been a concert on the Great Lawn in a real long time. Regardless if it's not a purely "free" show, it's a real honor for DMB to be playing the Great Lawn. But why do I get the feeling this is going to turn out like Woodstock? Tickets? For a free show?

good point. thats very interesting.
or maybe that means that there are many concerts for AOL happening at different times in other places. does that make sense? because dont you think that if there were other bands that the WH would mention it?

This is the other part that Ive wondered about too... it really sounds like DMB is not the only band that is going to be playing here....
However... the Warehouse site does not mention any other bands that are going to be playing. So... there are indications on both sides of if it is just going to be just DMB or not.

I bet you could hear the show from points behind the MET or by the big rock on CPW.
They probably want some crowd control on the lawn itself...the areas in the high 80s will probably be packed, too.

So, if you're not a member of the warehouse, which I am not, what the hell am I supposed to do?
Be on the look out for AOL's "Life Needs Free Tickets" Street Teams from September 13 through the 22nd for your chance to win 2 tickets to the Dave Matthews Band Concert in Central Park. The Street Teams will be traveling throughout Manhattan and the outer boroughs. Crew locations and times will vary.
That's wonderful. Am I supposed to go to NYC and go all over all the boroughs hoping to find the street team? This is such bogus bullshit. What about the peope that aren't fan club members??

i would say now is a perfect time to join...i mean if you think about it its $30 membership fee plue $12 for all the shipping and handling. thats $42 which is already cheaper than any normal dmb show plus you are in the warehouse now and get all the benefits or lackthereof of being in it.

A lot of questions about regulating the crowd...
Again, I refer to the Sting Central Park concert, since that is about the biggest show they've had in Central Park in a while. For that show, they essentially closed off the section of the park where the concert was happening for about 6 blocks north and south. The crowds went into the specified park entrances, where they had security/tickettaking. Then you walked a long way to the concert. THAT is why they're telling people to go to the 72nd Street entrances, because THAT is where they will most likely check tickets. Then you're probably gonna have to walk a long way to the lawn. They're probably gonna keep the Great Lawn area clear of people the whole day. If you don't have a ticket, maybe you can get away with sitting up in a tree for the afternoon.
Again, as somebody else said, calm down and read the info SLOWLY. You're not gonna have to pay $250 to go to this concert. You're not gonna have to chase street teamers all over NYC for two weeks. And I'd believe Warehouse when they say they have lots of tickets. I'm sure they don't have enough to meet demand, but I'm sure they have enough to handle the load of Warehousers in and around the tri-state area.
Just remember that the organizers of this are going to be watched SO CLOSELY in their crowd control of this whole thing, since this will be one of the largest gatherings in post-9/11 NYC (not including parades). They need to be sure that not just anyone gets into this concert. The security will be REAL tight. Expect ridiculous restrictions on things you can bring in.

It was more like 2. It will be interesting to see these street teams though and how many they actually have around. The Warehouse is a poorly run scam for several well known reasons and that is was what I was getting at with my original statement. They don't listen to reasonable consumer complaints. This isn't good for all those who are already involved, it only means even less tickets avaliable in the future. They should just open the gates to anyway who is in the park that day and ask for donations at the door. Then it would be a "free" show.

Yes, but do you have any idea how out of hand that would get? You probably wouldn't get nearly as good a view of the stage that way, if your lucky to even fit on the lawn in the first place. I think it's best for our safety and interest for the WH and AOL to keep this event in control.

While that may seem like a good idea now, imagine how many people may show up and the crowd control needed to accomodate such numbers. Imagine the people who get denied at the door....you think they'll just say "Ohhh too bad" and walk away? Heck no...they're going to try and get in by any means necessary which may not result in good concert going experience.

you hit the nail on the head...that 'FREE' concert was a PROMOTION sponsored by amex, which enabled you to see it free. that is called ADVERTISING.
this one is still FREE, no matter what to those who are members of WH. You could put in for tickets with no donation. A suggested donation is only suggested. i see no scam in that, DMB IS doing a show to BENEFIT others though the alliance is with AOL's charity branch to benefit NYC schools and in VA. But giving something like priority seating for the $250, well this is the same thing that any charity does in order to get funds.
Years ago, my first dave and tim show was in Town Hall in NYC to benefit an acting company there. I paid 200 for the coolest seats and an after party to benefit this charity and it was worth every penny!
people always feel they have to get something these days to give to charity. there's still charity for the sake of charity but this is incentive. i dont understand your point at all... what is big business about this?

The problem people have with this is the fact that since the tickets are free and the only guarantee that you'll get tickets is through the Warehouse, more people are going to join the Warehouse for this one event, in turn screwing over members in the long run when the band tours again.

How can you complain about the way this is being run? The band is giving you a chance to see them for free and you bitch and whine because they're asking for a donation to a good cause? You need to wake up and realize that this is a special opportunity for us to see the band in a truely unique setting. Either appreciate what you have a chance to be a part of or shut the hell up.

Thanks that was a real good post. I see what you are saying, but I still feel that they should open their doors to the general public of NYC and allow them to contribute. This could have been an event where people who normally don't get to see the band could have had the chance. People outside of their target audience and demographic. I hope all the money goes to the schools as is being advertised they certainly need all the help in the world. Especially those in truely "urban" areas. I would respect the Warehouse if they donated all the money they recieve from the new members that join from now until Sptember 24th to NYC schools also, because that is the only reason most will.
It is still an advertisement for AOL though, regardless of where the money goes.

If you guys think that anything less than 100% of the donations are going to charity, you're out of your mind. The band wouldn't be doing this if all of the cash wasn't going to charity. AOL's name is being used because someone has to pay for all of the expenses - so they are sponsoring it.

I guess I am just judging by instinct. He doesn't seem too trustworthy. He doesn't really look out for the fans in terms of the ticket prices rising annually and his demeanor is one of self interest. It is just my gut feeling, you can start a fanclub for him if you want to Sabre.

Once again...why complain about the fact that you have to be a WH member to get tickets? The $30 fee is cheaper than any DMB ticket you'll ever see and to see the band in Central Park should be a great experience. Be grateful your favorite band loves you enough to put on a free show and stop with the whining that this is the demise of your "scene"

hey i really feel your pain, i do, but its not realistic to think things stay the same. ive been around this band for 8 years and theyve continued to gain popularity. Tickets have been hard to get ALL those years but somehow it works out.
ive always been grateful for their touring schedule, i love seeing them a few times a year. if they get more popular in a certain city in the future, then they can do more shows at that venue. i even miss the stadium shows when they used to sell out three days in 50,000 seat venues. they can mix it up so take heart and think 'what me worry?'

why not offer the special benefits to the whole community though? I'm pretty sure the band is making a bunch of money on concerts and cd sales, why not offer stuff like the warehouse 5 as a download on the dmband.com site? the warehouse just exists to get more money out of the fans, and i don't think i'll ever join it. makes me mad that i might miss the nyc show because of it...sorry, i'm being a dick, bad day. rock on all.

By the way, we don't use "human logic and reasoning" in this part. Basically, it's a game where we jump to ridiculous conclusions that aren't supported by any form of evidence or reasoning whatsoever. It's kind of fun.

Compare DMB ticket prices to the other major artists out there - 25% less, at least. The price of milk is raised annually, as well. I don't trust cows.

I requested tickets, but the only way I'm going down is if a bunch of toronto guys rented a van and we all drove down. So hopefully there are some hardcore Toronto DMB fans out there.

If you guys think that anything less than 100% of the donations are going to charity, you're out of your mind. The band wouldn't be doing this if all of the cash wasn't going to charity. AOL's name is being used because someone has to pay for all of the expenses - so they are sponsoring it.
They make $ when people pay $30 to join to get the tickets.

it really wasn't anything big. I don't see what's so funny about that guys post. No it wasn't a "short set," but it wasn't really any longer than any other show. Sure it was good show. It was a pretty basic setlist with a lot of energy. No surprises except for Warren, which isn't that big of a deal. Some people had these hilarious, ridiculous expectations.

I'm posting this here because it appears to be the most recently topped CP thread. But anyways, my queation is am I the only one who misses (on he front forum page) the fact that it doesn't say "Most users ever online was 734 on 09-24-03"? It was always nice to see that and have just a second to reflect on a mind blowing experience.
