Windows sound recorder

So i went to go record some songs on this recorder. I plugged the mic into the comp and heard it over the speakers. When i hit record the little green line didn't move at all. Am i doing something wrong. Like should i get a new mic or what.

borrow someone else's mic and see if that works...if not, youre prob missing some kind of driver to make it run properly

double click the volume controll button in the lower right hand corner of the screen (like where the time is). turn off the mic there.
