My roomate just scratched the front of my Taylor 214. anyone know how to cover up scratches? It's about 1 inch to 2 inches long, deep enough to feel, but not a huge gouge. I just got it last week, so I am a lil down on it, but i understand it was a total accident, just looking for help on repairing it. thanks.

yikes.

that sucks.

I've had my Taylor about 8 months, and I hit it against a doorknob a month ago and put a small 1/2" ding in the top. It really pissed me off at the time, but I got over it. It's going to happen. That's why I bought a 300 series and not a Presentation Series.

Sorry to hear about the accident.

as for repairs, you can send it back to Taylor if you want, or take it to a local luthier and get an estimate. I would say it's probably going to be between 100-200.....but that's a wild guess. Remember, Taylor guitars also have a special UV coating/finish on the guitars. So, if the scratch is deep enough, it might have to be completely refinished, i.e. send it back to Taylor. If not, maybe it can be buffed-out by a luthier, but you can't buff too deep.

My advice is to let it ride....you're going to put more dings and scratches in it if you play it. The only way not to, is to put it in a glass box.

Now it looks different from every other 214. It gives it character! :)

Honestly, if it doesn't affect the sound or your playing of it, then I wouldn't worry about it. Just look @ Willie's guitar. There's a hole in the damned thing!

I put 3 big scratches on my Martin D-42. Imagine my dismay!

Treat 'em like glass....and they'll break like glass.

That has always been my theory.

A guitar, regardless of cost, without a little "wear"...is a sad sight....it is what seperates YOUR Taylor from everyone elses Taylor.

You'll one day grow to love that scratch!

Like someone said...builds character for your guitar!

Think Willie Nelson would ever part with Trigger? (And he can have WHATEVER he wants).

Your right, I still have my yamaha that I learned on. I bought it for like $200 and it know has a big hole in it from being thrown off a balcony. Anyway to get to my point I love it the way it is now better that when it was new.

I hate when people guitars are all flashy and super clean. I like dirty and broken in. I mean i wouldn't say go throw it out a window but don't worry about it. I'd say don't even fix it unless you really want to or plan on selling it.

that is my 10 cents, my 2 cents for free

It might sound dumb but I agree. I have 3 guitars and they all have little knicks and scratchs in them from stupid things I've done. My friend dropped one once and broke a tuning peg off so now the tuning peg is a slightly different shape b/c they didn't have the same exact one to replace it. One of my guitars has this scratch in the back of the neck that I always rub my thumb against while I'm playing and it almost makes it feel more comfortable to me. The little stuff liek that is what makes your guitar feel more broken in and more liek it's YOUR guitar not just some random guitar from a store.

Mine has the wear and tear you'd associate with normal use, but I always keep her in the case when I'm not playing her. Stupid things can't happen that way, and you're safe from humidity.

I have 2 little dings on my taylor 714ce (Doornob) those thigs are a bitch!!!!!!!!!!!! But I dunno how the hell it put two seperate little dings, looks like teeth marks (not noticable at all really, except when light is directly on it). Happened 3 weeks after I got it, I was livid

That does suck...my 714 has a few dings...but just think of it as character for your guitar.
