green bay :lol :lol :lol
i'm not saying they aren't good, but they are one of the worst 8-1 teams i've ever seen.
Green Bay opponents this season have a combined 38-43 record
Indianapolis opponents this season have a combined 47-34 record
Well, by those standards, the Patriots opponents this season have a combined 39-42 record.....only one more win than the Packers opponents.
Patriots over-rated then? :):)
Pats, GB, and Colts have allowed 147, 142, and 159 points respectively.
Pats, GB, and COlts have scored 355, 228, and 265 points respectively.
Sorry, but Green Bay is better than you seem to think.

I am gonna say this: all my Indy friends have been bitching and moaning about the fact that they have so many injuries.
The Patriots had to rely on RECHE CALDWELL last year in the AFC championship game as the prime receiving target. Shut up.

I think his point is that there is an obvious disparity in the overall talent level between the AFC and the NFC. I'm not saying that Dallas or GB are not contenders b/c I believe they are, but to crown these two teams above Indy based on one game - a game where the Colts were obviously far from full strength is quite premature.

Oh, I'm gonna keep bitching about the injuries (that and special teams), but what you won't hear out of me is using that as a reason for not being able to win. I think there is a difference.

To be fair the Colts roster is pretty decimated on both sides of the ball.
And it's not even the level of talent but there's players on the field who have no clue what they are doing, the Colts were huddling up last night on a consistent basis; they haven't done that for years. Thus it isn't just the level of talent but also players who are not familiar with the offense and Manning.
But the Colts did not lose b/c of injuries - I have said that from the beginning. You play with what you have, period.

I agree. While a lot of injuries DEFINTELY will affect how a team plays or it's ability to do well, you shouldn't blame a loss 100% on injuries.

is it wrong that I think it's lame to base how "good" a team is on how shitty the rest of it's division is?
Just because the AFC east is crap-tastic, doesnt mean New England is overrated. It'd be one thing if they beat those teams by 3 or 6 points, but it's another when they beat them by 84085.

I don't think it's wrong at all. I think it's a good base line to judge a team by how good/bad their division is. With that being said, even as bad the AFC East is, I think we all know that Pats are a really really good team. Plus, Collinsworth said they're the best ever, so that's all ya need.

This post is in reply to the above quote and other posts regarding Madden in the last page or so.
I honestly really like the Madden/Michaels combo for commentary. I find them entertaining, and they make an effort to be as unbiased as possible, particularly when compared to other commentators.
That being said, I seriously think Madden was doing some drinking last night. I even said to my wife at one point: "Do you think Madden is drunk?" Come on John, how many times are you going to butcher the name Toudouze? First time, ok, its a weird name. I'll give you that one. Second time, ok, he's getting old. We'll give you that one too. But the rest of the night? Oh well. I still like him.
On a sidenote, the WORST commentators of any network have to be ESPN. Both for college and for NFL. They seriously make me want to put it on mute.

You guys are following a very similar path to that of the 2005 Steelers, assuming everyone gets healthy. The Freeney injury would be worrisome, but I don't put much stock in ESPN. Eli Manning and Alex Smith were supposedly out for the year according to the boys in Bristol.

I see your point, but there is such a small window for NFL teams. The Colts have been fortunate to be this good for so long ...... losing Freeney for the whole season is such a huge blow :BANG
The Colts depend on rushing the QB with the just the front four so much more than any other team, we need an end.
As much as I'd hate to see the Colts give up draft picks, if Polian has a chance to pull off (my admittedly wishful thinking) Taylor trade, can't pass that up. Colts are a relatively young team with no glaring positions to fill.

Lemme guess, the refs again :lolthey're lucky cause they barely won. if edwards had been a little more gutsy and thrown it on 3rd down, colts probaly would have lost.
i dunno, they just look less impressive each week.

IF the Colts only had Marvin, Ugoh, Gonzales .......
IF Freeney hadn't been injured for the season, there would have been more pressure on Croyle.
IF the Colts only had a decent special teams where they didnt' have to kick it out of bounds to give KC good field position every time....
IF Vin would just make a FG .....
IF Manning had only had more time to throw....
IF the Colts receivers had only not dropped at least 6 passes....
etc., etc., etc.,
It is a sign of a very good veteran team to pull out wins when they are missing players and play horrible. The Colts team last year had their share of games that they looked horrible in.
Some Pats fans get too caught up in hypotheticals, give me a break.
IF we had only had Moss and those other receivers last year.....
IF the refs just hadn't sucked that game .....
IF the refs and the league weren't in cahoots with the Colts ....
Hypotheticals are nothing but excuses and is complete bullshit.

No such thing as luck in this league. We weren't lucky. The defense did a great job stopping KC from doing much of anything. Our offense, despite the injuries, did a good enough job to get us the win.
Watching the Colts the last few weeks is really not representative of watching the "real" Colts. Wait a few weeks until we get back to full (or near full) strength.

Yes they are. O-line is looking bad (2 missing starters), 5 dropped passes, some overthrows by Manning and of course the special teams.
KC defense is very good though, that Allen guy is a playmaker - their LB too, can't think of his name is very good.

Your argument implies that anytime a perceived favorite plays down to a "lesser" opponent's level and barely squeaks by a win - the favorites are automatically "lucky"
I simply disagree.
Obviously no one in their right mind would do this ....
but if one watches today's game against KC, then compares it to the Colts playoff game against Pitt in 05' - they will see a difference in the game. If the Colts had somehow won that game against the Pitt - without a doubt, they would have been lucky.

I do see your point. But I just think one has to look at specific occurences in the game to label a team "lucky" to win.
Again, just b/c a team that are considered favorites does not play up to their usual standards and barely wins against an underdog, does not automatically mean that the favored team got lucky.
In fact, I think it is a good test for the favored team, b/c it's a long unpredictable season, and being able to pull out a win despite playing like crap shows character, poise, and veteran leadership.
A talented team will not always play their best......actually no team will always play their best week in and week out.

Oh yah, D played great. I have never seen a faster bunch of guys flying to the ball with this Indy D.
Simeone Rice had a couple of nice plays but did he seem a little slow? I don't think he can ever get near a QB, hopefully he gets better.
Hopefully the O-line gets a healther (along with the rest of the team) and Howard Mudd whips this line back into shape.

No excuse for Vinatieri, even with the 49 yard FG; he is in a dome at home with his pedigree - not acceptable.
Even the announcer kept talking about some injury with his plant foot ...... if he is healthy enough to be on the field, he is healthy enough to perform to his usual standards.
So yah, he knew he was going to get booed and would himself admit that he deserved it (probably). Atlhough gotta credit him for not using that injury excuse, wish the annonuncers would do the same.

I'm fine with the boo's. Like Chris said, it's not a 49+ yarder, that would be one thing, but these are close, and shouldn't be a problem. Some fans just feel, as a fan, you should never boo your team or show displeasure. I think that's bullshit. If you know someone has the ability to play at a higher lever and is not doing so, I'm fine with letting them know I'm not happy about their performance.

Well, they may or may not have gotten through the toughest part of the schedule, but it doesn't look to me that things will get easier.
Although, I don't think the Jags will have Peterson or Stroud against the Colts so......
It's not that I don't think the Colts can beat them, but those are two tough defensive guys, and I just want the Colts to make it into the post-season relatively healthy. An intact offensive line, all the key skill players back and hopefully no more key injuries on the defensive side of the ball.

Why is there sooooo much hate for the Indianapolis Colts (Indy 'stealing' your team), when the Ravens were formed in the same fashion? Is it just because the team keep the "Colts" namesake?

12-10-2007, 11:47 AM
First of all, pro sports teams relocate all the time, and often do not change the name of the team.
Second, there is no one left that was with the team when that happened. Do you really think that Jimmy jr. had any input on the move?
Third, it's not like we 'took' a good team for Christ's sake! They have pretty much built a team from the ground up. The Browns were a good team when they took off, and it shows with how fast the Raven won a super bowl.
It just seems like this is the one that the city will not let go. I don't hear about pissed off people that the Lakers are now in LA, that the Nationals are now in DC, or that Rams and the Raiders have been in and out of LA over the years. I guess they could have done what the Oilers did and keep the team name for a year or two, and then change it.
And to say a team is a bunch of assholes for not changing their name, is just a joke. There is only one person that is either going to change it or not, and I guess the owner of the Colts didn't want to change the name. I guess we should hold that against everyone that has anything to do with the team for the rest of time just because of it.

Name one team in the NFL that kept the name of the team when they moved. And I mean ever.
First, Expos fans probably don't know that their city had a baseball team, hence why they aren't pissed about DC. Second, Indy got the Colts through shady legal actions, not just a decision like Cleveland did to not build a statdium. I mean, that's how it kinda started, but with the whole eminent domain thing? WTF is this, 1753?
Plus, I think the hatred was re-stirred because up until recently, Johnny Unitas was listed in the HOF as an Indy Colt. Fuck that bullshit. I would be so GD ripshit about that if I was a Baltimore fan. That's like listing Warren Moon as a Tennessee Titan.
Plus, peole just hate the Colts, so Baltimorons feel justified in it because they think that "well, we can hate him because the Colts used to be in Baltimore!" when what they really should say is "I just hate that f*cking fat forhead and I can't wait for Brady to break his record next weekend".

Boston Redskins: to Washington, D.C. in 1937
Cleveland Rams: to Los Angeles in 1946
Chicago Cardinals: to St. Louis in 1960
Oakland Raiders: to Los Angeles in 1982
Baltimore Colts: to Indianapolis in 1984
St. Louis Cardinals: to Tempe, AZ as the Phoenix Cardinals in 1988 and became the Arizona Cardinals in 1994
Los Angeles Raiders: back to Oakland in 1995

Okay, now list every single move ever made. The percentage? And you think LA cares? they have the Raiders or The Chargers to cheer for. St. Louis doesn't care, because they took the team from Chicago. Plus the Oakland thing doesnt count, it's still the same freaking city, just more ghetto.
Plus, if you've never been to Baltimore, it's a pretty salty city sport-wise. They have only 2 pro teams and both are horrendous. Any excuse to hate anyone is good. They hate the Redskins more than the Colts, if it makes you feel better.

I'm telling you, come to Baltimore and we'll go on a tour of the stadiums during games. I am not joking, the city hates their sports teams. They are the crappiest bunch of fans ever. On the way home from DC, I put on the Ravens pre-game show and the guys talking were just saying "hmm..how badly are we going to suck this week?" and people were calling in to say how horrible the team is and how much they hate the Colts.
It's so embarrassing to be associated somewhat with that fanbase. hence why I get royally annoyed when someone claims I was born and raised here and I'm a bandwagon NE fan or something.

Tom Brady currently has 45 TDs at the end of week 14. Peyton Manning in '04 had 46 TDs at the end of week 14 and only attempted 79 passes in the remaining three games. Tom Brady surely will attempt more than 79 passes in the final three games of this season despite having already clinched. :hug

Marv's coming back Sunday!
Bob (AKA defensive player of the year) is locked up for at least 5 more years/37 mil!
I absolutely love how the whole country is overlooking the Colts. The whole Patriots situation reminds me of the 2005 Colts. Everybody's attention was on the Colts and their quest for unbeaten, then they were huge favorites to win the Superbowl, and then were one and done in the playoffs.
God I hope we'll be getting ready for Colts/Pats 3 weeks from now.

Sanders, 26, would have been an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. Now, he is the highest-paid safety in NFL history.
John Madden, NBC's expert analyst who is in town for Sunday night's Colts-Tennessee Titans game, considers Sanders the top defensive player in the league this season.

Well no, don't think that I'm writing them off, but to say that "there's no doubt in my mind that San Diego will go into Indianapolis and beat the Colts" is just ridiculous in my mind.
I realize that SD is hot right now and that really any AFC playoff team can really test us (minus IMO Pittsburgh and Tenn/Cle) but I would never say something like that, especially given how dominant the Colts were.
I realize it was a totally different part of the season and SD is now a different team, but doesn't it mean anything that the Colts were one botched Adam Vinatieri field goal away from coming back from down 23-0 with just about everybody injured and Peyton throwing six interceptions? (well five, the last one was just a stat killer.)

but seriously though, yeah you're probably right, b/w the huge contracts given out to the offense core superstars - Manning, Harrison, Freeney, Sanders - I don't know where they are going to come up with the $ to pay Clark. The only thing that might save money is that the tight end position doesn't have the high dollar type players across the league. Take out a few players, and most of the players, I would think, are getting 'average' pay checks. I hope, I hope...

I don't really see how you can say Indy just gave up. They had the second and third string players out there vs. the Titans starters. Our backups kept them out of the end zone, only allowing two field goals. Plus they were going all out with hits, knocking Young out of the game. They didn't look great, but the offence did manage to get a TD. You could really tell the players were not used to game speed. Indy played like they were playing their scrubs against another team's starters :lol
Why in the hell would backups not try?!?!?! If they play well, maybe another team is watching and gets a shot with them, if they play well maybe the Colts keep them around a bit longer ..... as opposed to not giving any effort and the Colts assuredly cutting them off the team and consequently being out of a job.

HA! care to do another avatar bet, baby?
:lol Sure. Why the hell not, though I doubt I will be around much after the NFL season considering that is the main reason why I come here.
ummmm, if Indy wins the AFC (which they will) you have to sport whatever Colts avatar of my choosing the whole (off) week before the SB till the end of the SB game.
And vice versa - which we really don't have to worry about cus .... well you know.
Oh and if neither team wins then .... well that just sucks for the both of us.
Sound good?
Edit: Let's extend the avatar thing based on whether or not Indy or NE wins in the SB game ... by a week. Meaning if ... nay when Indy wins the SB you have to sport whatever avatar I choose for one more week after the win.

truth: None of the Colts starters (offense AND defense) have played for any other team other than Indianapolis.
That is unreal, and shows how awesome we have drafted over the years.

Upcoming Unrestricted Free Agents.
Clark
Jake Scott (G)
Lilja (G)
Josh Thomas (DE)
Rocky Boimann (LB)
Moorehead (WR)
Klecko (DT)
I think we all know who is going to be priority #1.
Apparently, according to the Indy Star, the signing of Sanders not only locked him up, but it has drastically increased our chances of keeping Clark"
"It effectively ensured that another front-line player who will be an unrestricted free agent at season's end -- tight end Dallas Clark -- will remain with the team in 2008. That's because if a long-term deal can't be reached, the Colts will resort to Plan B: the franchise tag. For Clark, that would be a one-year contract worth more than $4.5 million."

As with both the offensive guards, whatever Manning wants, Manning should get relative to his offensive line. I don't even care if (hypothetically) it's b/w signing Clark or keeping or getting what Manning wants for his offensive line. Everything starts at the offensive line, I don't care how great Manning is or his weapons, Indy having a stable, consistent, shutdown offensive line is vital. That's obvious.
As for the linebackers. I love Rob Morris, but both Tajuan Hagler and Clint Session have played pretty good. It will be b/w those two for the starting Sam LB next season. Hagler has been injury prone, and I've been really impressed with Session, but I guess we'll see. Basically Boimann is out.
Depth at the D-line position is obviously very important so it would be nice to keep both those guys, I doubt they will be expensive.
Moorehead .... eh, don't care. Stay or go.
Oh and with the emergence of Indy's young DTs, Booger might be out next year considering his price tag. I think I'd be ok with this.
GO COLTS!

Who the hell knows, not even gonna hope for it. It'll just be a pleasant (unexpected) surprise if he does play.
On a brighter note .....

He was injured even before the season started.
Injuries was just all over the place this season on both sides of the ball.

And yet, even with all of those injuries, we were probably two plays away from going 16-0 (I find it hard to believe we wouldn't have beaten the Titans had we played everybody in the last week.)

The whole defensive line was a weekly patch work for Dungy and his staff.
Other than Brackett, the LBs have also been banged up this season.
Our secondary, thankfully has been relatively healthy other than Bethea towards the end of the seaon.
and the offense .....:BANG I just hope Diem and the rest of the line are healthy and ready.

Just so you know, I talked to my friend, Jacques, who is a starting DE for San Diego. I told him that if he doesn't sack Manning at least 3 times, he's gonna get a punch to the mule.

How is that any different than when the coach says the same thing?
Jacques was also on my fantasy team, so the first few weeks I told him that he had to do well or I'd kill him. Not my fault no one else in the league is friends with anyone in the NFL.

I'm sure it wouldn't hurt anyway. 1- you're a girl. 2 - If he's juice'n with the rest of the line, his nutsack is all dried up anyway.

The Chargers went 14-2 last year. They got off to a slow start this year. With new coaches and coordinators comes new systems. It's definitely a talented team though.
Though I think the refs are helping out the Colts. That was a TD at the end of the half. They looked at the "holding" and it was total B.S., then just now with the phantom pass interference call.
