Keep the hope alive. Our defense is playing as well as they can - they are playing better.

It's the running game or lack thereof that's frustrating me.

I hear ya, that's why I said both sides of the line. If our O-line can't step it up, we'll never get a 100+ yard rushing game.

SUPER glad to see Sanders back on the field.

Yah, no kidding remember when the stretch play would get at least 3-4 yards every time.

Then play-action pass would get a TD.

SUPER glad to see Sanders back on the field.

And of course, one guy comes back inevitably one goes out, in this case Marlin Jackson out for the season :BANG

Though I thought Bullitt played reasonably well filling in for Sanders.

Huge win for the shoes last night. That goal line stand to hold them to a field goal was awesome. I almost had a heart attack on the last play when it was tipped right at the Steelers player. Melvin Bullitt saves the day. Playoff hopes are still alive.

Let's just get in the playoffs - healthy. And I like our chances.

It's just the damn running game - it's not just bad - it's pretty close to the bottom of the league ... heck I bet we are the worst running team in the league.

I'm as impressed with Manning this year as any other year. He is doing this all by himself with a young O-line and a non-existent running game.

Our receivers were making catches that most others in the league would have dropped, regardless of who was throwing the ball. The o-line was giving Peyton all the time he needed to make his choices and throw the ball most of the time. Our D sucked most of the night, but when it mattered, they really pulled it through. I don't think its fair to say that Peyton carried the team last night. And for the rest of the season, he wasn't good at all in the beginning, but neither was anyone else.

Also, props to Jacksonville for playing a helluva game last night. They really know how to play the Colts, and made the win that much sweeter.

I agree with you for the most part and they did make two big plays at the end to win and seal the victory. However, at times, without our D, I wonder what our record would look like (thinking of the Texans and Browns game)??

Name recognition. That's it. Favre would be the prime example of this. Clark most definitely deserves to be in the Pro Bowl.

I was just reading through some article about the game lastnight and I am still amazed that we pulled this off.

Who would you guys rather play in the playoffs during that first round? It obviously is going to be a road game. Denver? Miami? Jets? New England?

I would almost rather have the Dolphins so we can go down there for some ok weather!

Hopefully we learned something from last year.

LT did suffer some sort of groin injury against Denver and is scheduled for an MRI, maybe he won't be at 100%. That could help.

Its funny that all these media dipshits were freaking out when we didn't start 10-0, yet we finished up the regular season 9-0. I would rather have the win streak at the back half of the schedule than the front, like we have traditionally been doing.

I wouldn't say he's surrounded with nothing....Forte is already a top 5 RB in the league and is like Westbrook in that he catches a ton of passes out of the backfield, he's got a couple of solid tight ends and some average receivers...plus the Bears defense is always good.

1,238 Yards Rushing -- 477 Yards Receving, 63 receptions.

As one of eight rookies since 1970 to lead their team in rushing yards and receptions, Forte established new rookie records for the Chicago Bears in rushing yards, scrimmage yards (1,715) and receptions. He joins an elite group of running backs, becoming one of eight rookies with 1,000-plus rushing yards and 50-plus receptions in NFL history.

I don't know the final verdict, but all year he was battling Adrian Peterson for being the largest part of a teams offense. They were both around 40% at one point.

But the Bears have a horrible O-line, below average QB, horrible receivers. As a rookie he was able to do those things, despite everyone knowing if you stop Forte you stop the Bears.

I don't know where he ranks exactly, but he is one of the top RB's in the NFL.

Just because they're a big name, doesn't make them better. Forte was 7th in rushing, he was 3rd in receiving for running backs (Jones-Drew and Kevin Faulk had more).

Look at the top 10 players in yards from scrimmage this past season:

1. RB, Adrian Peterson - 1,885 Yards
2. RB, Michael Turner - 1,740 Yards
3. RB, Matt Forte - 1,715 Yards
4. RB, Clinton Portis - 1,705 Yards
5. RB, Steve Slaton - 1,659 Yards
6. RB, DeAngelo Williams - 1,636 Yards
7. WR, Andre Johnson - 1,575 Yards
8. RB, LaDanian Tomlinson - 1,536 Yards
9. RB, Thomas Jones - 1,519 Yards
10. RB,Chris Johnson - 1,488 Yards

Even though we had won 9 in a row, we weren't playing very good during those games. Just enough to win.

Plus having Ron Winters crew wasn't the greatest. They signal handily cost us the GB game. They litter the field more than any crew in the NFL. How they got a playoff game is beyond me.

They all played like shit. Dropping passes, giving up a sack on a big play, letting Rivers get 13 yard runs for first downs. Plus is didn't help matters their punter had the best game a punter has ever had.

Just gonna hand the Jersey's up for the season and get myself prepared for the Cubs.

Obviously like Cadillac, health is a factor with any back. But you're crazy if you think going into a game after Week 3 teams didn't go "We need to put 8 in the box and stop Forte." I mean going into a game against the Bears, it's not like Forte was a secret.

VanHorneDog
01-05-2009, 06:50 AM
nah it takes at least half a season for anyone to give anyone credit. You can have two good games, it takes at least a half a season playing multiple defenses before anyone can acuratly gage a runner.

look at his splits against teams i dont really see a trend to put 8 guys in the box on him. he only had 3 100 yard games, not something that a team looks at and says, we HAVE to stop him. and those games were verse 3 of the worst run defenses in the NFL.

His high numbers are more indicitive of a guy who is good and gets 300+ touches out of the backfield. Then his recieving numbers are inflated because of a poor offense, nobody is open or there is too much presure and he becomes the safe throw, his big games catching were when the team was behind and lost and he had no plays of over 20 yards catching. Which, tells me that there were not many passing plays called for him intentionally and once he is in the secondary he isnt that hard to tackle.

you can put up good numbers and still not be the most talented, give it another year and we will see. i wont say it yet. but, give me 1,800 rushing yards like Adrian Peterson's second year next year and we can talk. or 2,100 combined yards like LT had in his second year, or keep giving me consistent TD production out of both running and passing like Westbrook and we can call him Elite.

I just dont see it yet, too soon.

Heavy As Stone

Needless to say, I am very disappointed. But, as Colts fans are often accused of (most often by the players) we are definitely a spoiled bunch. Unless we win the whole damn thing, we're going to be just as upset. I'd like to think that I feel worse because it was the first round, because it was against San Diego, because I hate Rivers, etc. but being honest, I'd just find another reason to be pissed off later. Not to take any hate away from San Diego, Rivers, and that whole bunch.

We were simply outplayed on both sides of the ball. They had our number on Offense. Peyton was a lucky, lucky man not to throw any interceptions. The pressure they were putting on him was unreal. Also, its hard to establish any kind of a passing game when your running game decided to stay home for the night. For both of these reasons, I place a bit of blame on the O-line. They really needed to step up last night, protect Peyton, and create some gaps for Addai and Rhodes, but they didn't. Can't say they weren't excited though, considering those false starts.

Our D, in cliche Colts fashion, "couldn't stop the run." Are any other Colts fans SICK AND TIRED of hearing about that? And it being true? What was great about the 2006 Colts was that they couldn't stop it all season, but the second January rolled around, they were a freaking brick wall. Not so this year. Sproles, the shortest player in the league, made them look pathetic. We caught them asleep for one cheap touchdown. Sproles caught them asleep on nearly every play.

And despite all of that - being completely outplayed on both sides of the ball - we were in the lead in the last two minutes. Like our run defense problems, this is yet another Colts cliche - finding a way to win no matter how crappy we play. Being outplayed and winning isn't something unfamiliar for Colts fans. Hell, this tradition goes way back to the Harbaugh days in the mid 90's (remember the Comeback Colts?). The game goes into OT. Its a new game. We lose the toss. And guess what - for the most part, when it counted, our D did their job. Sure, San Diego marched, but we had them stopped. More than once.

I'll give them the facemask call because it was clear and legit. But the other two? Man... it is really hard, despite all of our bad playing, to blame this one on the refs, but I think there is a legitimate gripe there. Three BIG penalties in overtime that could potentially have changed the game. I don't know about that one, guys. I just don't know.

Maybe Dungy will surprise us again and stick around for another year. Maybe they will keep Marvin Harrison for another year. Who knows. But I have a weird feeling in my belly that the golden years for the Colts are coming (or have come) to a close. I have a feeling that we will refer to these years as "the Dungy era" or something similar when we were damn near unstoppable. But I hope that they prove me wrong in 09.

To paraphrase Mike & Mike from my ride in this morning (I thought they pretty much summed up how I felt about the game)… the Chargers were the better team and I’m not upset so much that the won, but to all but have the game handed to them in overtime is just unacceptable. 3 & 10 in overtime and you’re going to call defensive holding? On a lineman?!? If not for that bs call, there would be no face-mask and they would have punted. Now, that doesn’t mean the Colts would have won. I really feel the ‘better’ team won, the Chargers out played the Colts, but we would have at least had a chance to score.

That is what pisses me off more than anything.

Fuck San Diego and that bunch of under achieving assholes. Also, I wish Rivers wouldn't be such a douche. I hated his guts last year and the year before, but I thought that immaturity was the reason.

No, that guy is a fucking asshole. He throws more to the ground when under pressure than he does to a person on his team. Unless he's allowed to stay in the pocket and have 10 seconds to chuck it at a teammate, he blows more donkey ass than I dunno what. Then, who is the first person to find a post-game reporter? Phyllis Rivers, talking about how great of a job he did and how he really led his team to victory. Ugh, stupid, you only won because of a horse shit call that I didn't even think was possible.

Fuck face. You didn't do shit, Sproles did. Get your big-assed ugly faced loser self on the side-lines and shut the fuck up. 8-8 is embarrassing. Have fun getting smashed by the Steelers, you useless bitch boy.

God, I hate him.

Sssoooooo.....how do you REALLY feel?

Thanks, I needed that after such a shitty way to end the season.

Seriously, I could go on for decades about how much I wanna take a Mack truck to that butt pirate.

Glad I could brighten your day, Tak. Seriously, Indy is 10000x better than those fairy boys in powder blue. They only lost because of that bullshit call in over time. Who the hell calls defensive holding on a lineman? Yeah, cuz that NEVER happens. EVER.:rolleyes Not to mention, where the hell was LT? Injured? Just being a huge vagina (himself)? At least he didn't have his helmet on this year so that we couldn't see his ugly mug sulking on the side line.

I hate Pittsburgh, too, but I hope Ben Dicklessburger pounds the crap out of San Diego. And I have a friend on the Chargers!

mmm i dip my chips in ketchup. It's so bangin'. Lee brought me some ketchup chips from Canada a few months back and they were SOOOOOOOOO good. I could have plowed through the whole bag (about 1/2 the size of a normal bag) in about 45 seconds if I tried. But, I had to control myself.

Sooooo...bitter much?

First off, where do you get bitch boy? Is it because he'll play hurt; take a hit in the pocket; countlessly keep his team in the game; manage the clock properly; verbally respond to fucktard players and fans that are talking shmack; is as competitive and fiery as they come? What?
He doesn't have a fat forehead that I KNOW you hate.

Concerning the wasted passes to the ground, its called a broken play. The play calls for specific actions to be made and when it doesn't happen...there is no designed out in the playbook. If you were more observant and a little less emotional (hmmm, ala Phyllis) you'd notice all the receivers standing still, not trying to get open. Their job was to eventually block up field on those plays. So, instead of forcing a covered pass into an interception, he chose to stop the clock and get back to the line.

Don't even try to blame the refs here! The Chargers are notorious for getting ass reamed on calls. What the fuck was that overturned fumble call in the first half on the run back? Didn't look like anything close to conclusive evidence to me. Further more, the Colts are on the opposite side of the spectrum being notorious for calls being handed to them on a silver platter as the NFL's golden boy (team). All the players knew to watch their ass with this referee crew.

I'd keep going but I've ranted too long.

For the record...the Colts are my second favorite team.

Why don't you go back to the Patriots thread and talk about your next...oh wait.

Response to your "first": I get bitchboy from the fact that he has no problem playing like shit and taking credit for the hard work EVERYONE ELSE DOES. You could put frigging Greise on that team, with that receiving core and O-line and he'd be "awesome". Philip Rivers is good at two things: being a total asshole and taking credit where he doesn't deserve it.

Broken play? Him getting out of the pocket, running 20 yards BACKWARDS and then just as he's about to get his ass pounded into the ground he throws it towards the line of scrimmage where no one wearing his colors are standing. Yeah, that's called "inability to make shit happen". A broken play would be him throwing stuff and someone bats it or deflects it, or he is still in the pocket and throws an INT. All Rivers does is run around like a complete doucher and launches the ball towards the ground when he realizes he should have stayed on the family farm.

You are correct about the Colts having calls handed to them, I'll give you that. But I hate Philip Rivers as much as the Manning sisters, and in this case, I hated the fact that his shit-ass 8-8 team actually got to the post season, while other teams whose BACK UP got them to 11-5 is currently playing golf. I pulled for the Colts because they actually EARNED the right to be in the post season.

Just to play Devil's Advocate here, blame the system, not the Chargers. In their defense, they did earn the right...they won their division. Albeit a weaker division than the AFC East, but they won their division.

It isn't really SD fault, but fuck. I mean, I know people play the "they are just in a shitty division" card, but there should be some rule where a team who makes it into the playoffs, and wins their division mind you, shouldn't have the 12th shittiest record in the NFL. San Diego will be in the playoffs and HAVE THE 12th PICK IN THE FIRST ROUND IN THE DRAFT.

I'm sorry. What? That's horse shit. I know that New England has been in a shitty division for the past 1/2 decade, but they always won at least 11 or 12 games in the season. 8-8? Really? HOUSTON went 8-8. HOUSTON. You think anyone would say they deserve to be in the playoffs, or would everyone say "yeah, cuz at 8-8, you're a play off contender"?

I still stand by my claim that San Diego did not deserve to be there. Technically, yeah, they made it in "fair and square", but that still smells like bullshit to me.

I think my main point is: fuck Philip Rivers. Indy > San Diego. Sucks that it didn't pan out that way on Saturday. :)

I think it's a total joke that people keep saying the Colts have calls handed to them, or that they are the sweethearts of the NFL, whatever. I’ve seen many games over the years when they’ve been dicked over by bad calls, just as many as any other team. Ask any fan about their teams major rival, and they'll tell you the same thing. Every Colts fan I know will tell you that the Pats get every call to go their way. Every 49's fan will say the same about the Cowboys, so on and so on. That's not really a valid argument. The fact that they called defensive holding, in overtime, on a lineman, is just fucking stupid.

Also, Philip Rivers, although I’ve never met him, really come across as a major prick. He’s very arrogant for someone who hasn’t accomplished much in his time with the NFL. Not saying he won’t/can’t achieve greatness, but right now it’s a close race for biggest dick between Rivers and Cutler.

I'm more/less talking about the lack of call for pass interference in the 2005 AFC championship game. But then again, it was Reche Caldwell, so he woulda dropped it anyways, to be honest. :D

But yeah, the holding thing was shit. Total shit. I don't care who you are, it was shit.

Rivers comes across that way because he IS a prick. What a doucher to the max. The best was that he threw like 5 passes to the ground in the last quarter, and he's right on TV with some reporter 20 seconds post-game talking about how he got it done when he needed to. What? You handed it to Sproles? Wow, you're amazing. What? Your awesome 8-8 record that's a good preview of you getting to the super bowl? Will that be before or after you are pounded in the ass by the Steelers defense.....just trying to get a time line, buddy.
