best part about the win is that the Colts didn't even come CLOSE to playing their best. They actually didn't even play good.

Peyton Manning is so perfect that when he caused a controversy in college by mooning an athletic trainer, witnesses to the incident discovered that Manning is without an anal opening, as he has evolved to where he creates no human waste.

I guess the same could be said for the Colts/Steelers game in the playoff last year, the Steelers didn't win because they came in here in kicked our ass, it was just because the Colts just sucked that day.

Fo sheezy....I know "Jump!" By Kris Kross by heart. It's sad really.
Yes, 4 of the 5 turnovers were because some Patriots players don't know how to catch, despite the fact that they were wide open. Well, other than Tommy "WTF am I doing" Brady throwing it INTO the end zone into triple coverage. If the Colt's D is known to allow 5.2 yards per carry, and you're on their 25 yard line, first down, why oh WHY are you throwing it? Give it to Maroney and have him steam roll people. Seriously, I need to be the offensive coach.
And yeah, I still say the Steelers didn't outplay the Colts in that playoff game last year. Just because you win doesn't mean it was ALL because you outplayed someone; that team can just decide to suck for a quarter making your team win. Yeah, Miami beating the Bears. The bears MUST have been on their A-Game. Stupid retards.

Did the Colts "beat" the Pats - Yes (I think this is my "beaf" with all the NE fans - just can't give credit where credit is due)
Did the Colts dominate the Pats - Hell No
Did the Pats make a mistake by not running the ball more - ummmm, yeah
Did the Colts absolutely prove they are the better team - I dont think so
Does last week's game mean anything come playoff time - NO - other than putting themselves in a position to be playing at the Dome in Jan.
SteelerMan
11-09-2006, 04:51 PM
And yeah, I still say the Steelers didn't outplay the Colts in that playoff game last year.
From that game...
Rushing Yards:
Steelers - 112
Colts - 58
Rushing Attempts:
Steelers - 42
Colts - 14
Time of Possession:
Steelers - 34:52
Colts - 25:08
Those three statistics alone show that the Steelers were able to play their kind of game. The score was 21-3 going into the 4th quarter, and 7 of the Colts' 15 points in the 4th quarter resulted from arguably the WORST non-interception call in history. Now that I think about it, you're the first person I've ever heard say the Steelers didn't outplay the Colts in that game.

Also, the Steelers didn't just win "because the Colts sucked that day"... they followed the same formula as San Diego when they beat the Colts. They blitzed heavy and often, put pressure on Manning, took the early lead, then used their running game to keep the Colts offense off the field. It was the result of perfect execution of their gameplan (until the 4th quarter, of course).

Good read.
Indianapolis' status as the team to beat was cemented by consecutive wins at Denver and at New England, a feat that earned the Colts the distinction of being the only team in NFL history to win back-to-back games on the road against teams 5-1 or better.

Ugly game - seemed like it was one of those "trap games" - the Colts looked like they were "sleep-walking" out there - no intensity on the offensive side of the ball; When is Stokley coming back?!?!?
Defense played decent especially considering yet another two starters were out (Brackett and Sanders)
Just hope the team can get to full strength soon so they can play a few games together and get some sort of rhythm before the playoffs.

A win is a win I guess. At least Rhodes and Addai were looking good. Special teams need to learn how to tackle. Peyton seemed to be way off in the second half but that's fine... they still won and that's all that counts.
Wasn't it nice to be able to run well enough to kill those last 3 minutes?

On Monday, the NFL announced that the start time for the Colts’ game against the Philadelphia Eagles in the RCA Dome on Sunday, November 26 – originally scheduled to start at 1 p.m. – has been moved as part of the league’s new “flex scheduling” arrangement.
The Colts-Eagles game now will be an 8:15 p.m. start and will be broadcast on NBC’s Sunday Night Football package

Oh and Tak did you read Indystar today - Mathis has more tackles than Gardner!; he has really been a dissapointment so far this year. not gonna lie, Cowboys kind of worry me. TO is going to do whatever the hell he wants to do against our secondary, and Romo is proving to be a really solid QB. Terry Glenn is a great #2 that the Colts can't forget about either, though he may not play. Solid run game also with Jones and Barber. Dallas' Pass D is suspect though, so I'm expecting a huge day from Manning. This game could be really fun.

Does anyone know the rule for sure about this "flex" stuff. I remember (I think) a Steeler fan posting that one of the rules in the 'flex' is that one team cannot have more that 4 primetime games, which would put the Colts at the limit after the phili game. But, a friend of mine last night said that it was a maxum of 5 primetime games, with no more that four on Sunday night.
I don't know which to belive now, but I fear if it's the later, this is really gonna mess up my New Years Eve plans.

Yeah, I'm the one who said it was four games. I remember reading it before the season started, and I'm almost positive it was four primetime games regardless of what night it's on... I knew about it because it applied to the Steelers. We were told that the Steelers wouldn't be affected by the flex schedule because they already had the maximum of four primetime games (and only 1 of those were on Sunday night... 2 are on Thursday nights and 1 was on Monday night). So if what we were told is correct, you have nothing to worry about.

Good point... especially considering that they're playing Miami. CBS can protect 5 games over the 7 week period. If it looks like the Colts could go 16-0, they might protect that game to keep it for themselves.

Dallas is much better than their record says. Sure it's a discouraging loss, but it's not a BAD loss by any means. We just simply didn't have it today, and Romo did just enough for Dallas to win. That guy is going to be a very, very good quarterback for many years.

No chance Chicago is #1? The Dolphins are proving to be a lot better than they started out as, and the Bears have actually beaten a couple teams that can be considered quality wins now.
good point....the Giants win was a good one
i dunno....colts, bears, chargers and broncos are all pretty close. I just don't know about the Ravens, they seem to have gotten extremely lucky with a few of their wins.

oh well
Dallas is much better than their record says. Sure it's a discouraging loss, but it's not a BAD loss by any means. We just simply didn't have it today, and Romo did just enough for Dallas to win. That guy is going to be a very, very good quarterback for many years.
9-1 isn't so bad. Now we hopefully won't even think about resting our starters, and will be going full speed into the playoffs.
Nice win Dallas fans.
thanks. i'm fuckin' pumped. we should be 7-3, but i don't want to talk about that redskin's game. with everyone else in the nfc looking like shit and our remaining schedule being very favorable, i still think that second seed is attainable for us. it was a great game today, though. the colts are always a scary team and i think they'll be fine in the playoffs. see you guys again in the super bowl. ;)

if san diego wins by 1 or 2 scores then #2, if they win by more. #1. their defense is WAY better than the Colts and the Chargers offense some argue is better, but they dont have manning they have a "rookie" quarterback.
anyways i think they are going to lose anyway. :shrug

I wouldn't exactly call our remaining schedule very favorable. Before today's games, I was calling it downright abismal.
Should be wins:
Tampa
Detroit
Philly (who has been playing like shit, but always come strong against Dallas... see Washington to prove this point... though I hear Mcnabb is out for the year.)
Tough games:
@NYG
@Atlanta
New Orleans
This Indy win was HUGE though. To get to a solid 10-6, we're going to have to not screw the pooch against the should be wins as well as taking 1 against the tough ones. Doable, but not what I would describe as "very favorable".

Dallas D played great - pressured Manning all day long.
Indy needs to get Stokley back to get some (more) quickness with our 3WR sets. Dallas matched up with Indy great.
It's one loss - big deal; I am actually somewhat relieved that the "perfect season" hype is not going to get out of hand.
The defense is playing better - at least they are improving; I thought Morris played real well in the middle.
Again - everyone will make a big deal out of this but who cares it's one loss

Sure would've been great going into the last game of the season against the Dolphins...sigh.
Maybe for the rest of media and the rest of the fans, but with this team, the only thing they need to be worrying about is getting healthier and getting better on defense (which I think they have inspite of the injuries). I am dissapointed with the loss, but I'm relieved that the 'Perfect Season" hype is gone.
Losing will always suck, but at least a huge distraction does not have to be dealt with the rest of the season.
Again, people will blow this out of proportion, the media (and some fans) always does - but it's one loss, it's the NFL; the cliche "Any Given Sunday" is quite apparent in the league.
i.e. with NE, people and the media were saying that they are not as good as everyone thought or that they are in trouble (the past couple of weeks), after this week; I doubt people will be saying the same thing. People tend to overanalyze and build up the most recent week (and forget about the rest of the games they have played) - it's all bullshit
SteelerMan
11-20-2006, 10:28 AM
I don't think it's that big of a deal. I'm glad I won't have to hear all of the hype around the Colts potentially going undefeated. The one thing I'd be worried about if I'm a Colts fan is the fact that every time a team successfully gets to Manning early, the Colts seem to lose.

Nice win for Indy, Addai looked terrific. The coaches are handling him perfectly making sure he doesn't "burn out" before the playoffs; Addai is going to be something special.
The only downside were the injuries for Indy - Clark might be gone for the season, Utecht and Fletcher have played well thus far. Apparently they are bringing in Proehl who was a decent receiver........a while back, hopefully Stokley and Sanders comes back soon.
GO COLTS!

I don't see how we can win in the playoffs without Sanders. We're getting by for now, but we all know the playoffs and totaly different.

Oh, and Bugger is coming along quite nice.

So I'm at the game last night and I didn't see Addai come in for Rhodes on that first drive. Rhodes is the 'starter' and he's just kind of plugging away out there....then they bring in Addai. The give the ball to him and he just freak'n shoots out like a rocket. I couldn't belive how much faster he was than Rhodes. It was shocking....I knew he was faster, but when I was expecing it to be Rhodes and it wasn't I was like "Damn"!!
Three TDs all year, then 4 last night! I wonder if Edge was watching.....

Great game last night, though the Philly D was looking awful.
Addai was terrific will all of those carries and receptions. 4 TDs is incredible. Edgerrin who?
I was glad to see Dallas Clark at least be able to walk off the field. They said last night that x-rays were negative and it appeared to just be a sprain. Today they are going to do an MRI I heard, let's hope for good results.
Not many more tough games the rest of the season... I just hope Indy can win out and stay healthy. Getting a few players back (like Sanders and Stolely) before the playoffs will be crucial. At this point I really don't think there's a team in the AFC that can take the Colts, though the Ravens would probably give them a good game in the playoffs should they meet.

I don't know how good I would feel about being defended by a guy like TO...
IRVING, Texas (Nov. 29, 2006) -- Terrell Owens isn't just
sorry to see his pal Mike Vanderjagt go. He thinks the Dallas Cowboys made a mistake by releasing the wayward kicker.
"I don't see what he did wrong to warrant him being cut," Owens said. "I hope it doesn't come back to haunt us. Whoever made that decision, I'm pretty sure they're hoping the same thing."
In their brief time as teammates, T.O. and the "idiot kicker," as Peyton Manning once called Vanderjagt, really hit it off. Owens said he's spoken with Vanderjagt since he was cut.
"Going into the Colts game, the guy was 12-of-15. That's still a high kicking percentage," Owens said. "He didn't lose any games for us. If I had to put myself in the mix, I feel like I lost some games and I'm still here, so it's just unfortunate."

Know what else makes someone look foolish?
When someone doesnt know that "are" is a verb and "our" is a possessive pronoun.

$220 for my playoff tickets. One seat for two games (if we host two).

i've come to full realization that the Colts will NOT win the Superbowl this year. There is just no way that it will happen with that defense. It is a HUGE problem that has got to be fixed. It cannot be ignored any longer. Week after week teams just run it down our fucking throats. I honestly felt sick yesterday during the game watching how pathetic their run D is.
I thought after the Philly game sums it up perfectly. Most of the Colts fans/reporters/coaches were talking about how good the Colts did defending the run, and I think it was also Cato June that said "I thought we did a great job containing Westbrook and the rushing game." Uhhhhhh, Westbrook rushed 20 times for 125 yards and a TD that game. Is more than 6 yards a carry and a touchdown REALLY considered "stopping the run" for the Colts? That is just pathetic.
Superbowl: Chargers VS Cowboys, don't know who wins.

i'm not giving up on the Colts by any means. Is it really not frustrating to you to watch teams run down their throats week after week? I have been a diehard fan since the early 90s also, which is why I care so much. I'm just being realistic. Has there ever been a team with the worst rush defense in the league that won the superbowl? I don't think there has, and I just don't see it happening this year either. The blueprint to beat the Colts is no secret anymore. Run, run, run. Keep the clock moving, and keep Manning off the field. I don't think the Colts are all of a sudden going to start stopping the run without some personnel changes.

I had a theory about the Colts strategy that I was discussing with my dad earlier. I thought that this would be an appropriate place to share it.
Typically in Football, the object of punting the ball is to drive the ball as far as possible into the other team's territory, and either stop them or down the ball as close to the end zone as you can. Then the opposing team does their best to go, say, 95 years down the field to score. This happened yesterday, as a matter of fact. The drive took an extremely long time (not sure off the top of my head) and for that entire time, Peyton was standing at the sideline, unable to do a damn thing.
So here is my idea. We can't stop much of anything, right? So instead of kicking the ball as far away as you can, let them start their drive on, say, the 50 yard line. That way, we at least have a chance to stop them, and Peyton will get back onto the field only wasting about half as much time.
While that is a joke, part of me is serious. If we can't stop anybody, then we may as well not shoot ourselves in the foot and keep Peyton on the sidelines.

Give me an F'n break! Just man up and say we've got a big problem, and we need to get it fixed asap! Then, do something about it. I'm tired of watching the same piss poor team out there week after week continue to miss tackels and get ran on for 6~7 yards a carry.

Not if you face another team that doesn't play defense, like the Bengals. I think you'd also fare well against the Ravens... but if/when you run into the Chargers or Jaguars, I'm afraid you'll go down. Maybe the D will miraculously improve in time for the playoffs.

I don't know which is "better" (or worse).....
-Last few years with Indy going into the playoffs with me truly thinking/believing it's their year - and ending up being bitterly heartbroken and dissapointed
-Or this year - with me having such little faith on a team (pre-playoffs) that has been a huge disappointment year after year in the playoffs and now this year with a defense that has to be considered one of the worst defenses EVER IN THE HISTORY OF THE NFL. Indy has never had a "good" D - but what we have this year is just embarrasing and inexplicably horrid.
TAK - I think I've lost my faith! I know Indy is still better than most teams out there and the team is still 10-3 but the defense - NO ONE can win with that defense - NO ONE! - especially in the playoffs. This season I have just always believed that the defense will at least relatively improve during the course of the season, but instead it has actually gotten worse!

I think I have a better shot of turning this glass of water next to me into wine.
It's possible and probably likely that the defense will improve (it cannot get any worse!) but enough to beat playoff caliber teams in the playoffs? - Highly unlikely.
Simply, they just don't have the personnel to run Dungy's defense. It worked in TB because they had the players to do it.
And one more thing - does the word "contain" have any meaning for the Colts defense; for that matter what about the words "tackling and wrapping up"?

I wish I could bring you comfort, or say something nice that would bring you back into the blue, but I got nothing. The guys I go to the games with have been calling me Mr. Negative all year, telling me I've got to have faith. Now, as of this weekend, two more are willing to sell their playoff tickets with me, just because they view it as a waist of money.
:lorraine
I look at it this way. They are a good team, and a great team to watch. I have a lot of fun going to the games and hanging out with the guys. I have a few beers, some good food with good company. That to me makes up a great reason to continue to be a season ticket holder. I don't view them as a playoff team anymore. Until they show me they can step up and play at that level, they are just an awesome regular season team, with the major goal of winning the AFC South Championship. After that the season is over. I have no hopes or even thoughts about them post-season.
This has helped me get over how bad the run D is. Plus, it will allow me to really enjoy the playoffs this year. The last two years I was so pissed off, I couldn't even bring myself to watch a playoff game.
I guess I'm not as true a fan as I once was.....

I (we) are fans. It's just we are stating the obvious.
I will watch, cheer and hope come playoff time - that will never change but unless we have the ultimate form of "Homerism", we just can't deny the utter ineptitude of that defense. Manning & Co. will have to score 30-40 pts. to win and with Clark and Stokley out indefinitely (effectively taking away a viable 3rd option for Manning) I don't see that happening.
I (we) are fans - we are just realistic and honest about the team.

.................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .............................BAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH AHAHA
sorry i just had to see what it felt like to be a coach there for a second and brush everything under the rug!!!
our D is well quite pathetic. But some of this has to be blamed on injuries as well as lack of personel.
i know its a little to early for this, but think about next year. A) We resign Booger B) Simon Sanders and Doss get healthy C)Reagor gets healthy
now look at our defense. Freeney, Simon, Booger, Reagor, Mathis, Brock on the front line. Go out and draft a big middle linebacker and youve got June, Brackett, Gardner, and whoever we draft. And in the Secondary we have Doss and Sanders back in the safety spots, Marlin Jackson on the slot and David and Harper on the outsides. Now i know David an Harper are NOT shutdown corners but they are suited well to playing the cover 2 defense and if our new front 4/7 can atleast contain the run they can go back to doing that.
That is not the Baltimore Ravens Defense reincarniated, i understand that. but with all those players healthy they are a D that can hold teams to 20 points or less. You do that and our offense should be able to win 13 games again. (and allow us to lose in the playoffs for the 39th straight season)

Miami is playing very tuff football over the last month and a half. I don't think they're the creampuff people think they are. Plus, at the end of the month, the Colts get their chance to get beat by them too.
:shrug
Yeah, I try to tell myself that Miami is a tough team. But then I remember that Joey Harrington is the QB and I come back to reality.
Edit: and I'm glad you liked "no shit, sherlock" :)

Well, Harrington may not be a MVP type QB, but Grossman isn't either, and look where the Bears are. Also, look at Johnson for the Raven back when they won it all.
I will not be totally shocked if the Colts loose out. They could get beat Monday night, then we go to the Texans, who always play us tuff at their place, the Miami at home. Unless someone steps up and starts making some plays on the defense (ie. a freaking tackle once in a while), its gonna be a long month.

The Colts make tackles......it just takes a few tries to get it right. Usually the runner breaks the 1st, 2nd and 3rd attempts and by the 4th try the RB is usually a bit fatigued and starts to slow down THEN the D (usually a DB) finally gets him by the 5th attempt.........usually
I hope the Colts make me look like the biggest douche of a fan and gets their game together
GO COLTS!

That's easy to say now, but they do have a running back. I'm sure no one knows who it is, but I'm sure there will be highlights on ESPN from the guy after the game.

Wali Lundy... or is it... Ron Dayne? :lol
If you guys let Ron Dayne run wild on you, you should forfeit your playoff spot. We'll take it.

I think this game will probably be a shootout. Hopefully Peyton and co. bring the big guns. Both teams will score more than 24.

The Colts are 3-0 in prime time games this season. This is going to be one of those games where the last team with the ball is going to win. I think the defense will step up because there were embarressed last week.

Ya you're right. But I see the errors of my ways now. My mother always told me to never hit a lady. That's why I didn't take you out. The problem with that is, lady doesn't = girl. And while you are a girl, I think we all know you're not a lady.
So next time I see you----right in the face!

I dont necessarily mean I want the Bungles to win, I just want that assclown to perform well. Actually, I want the colts to win, because I don't want them to give up their 2nd place seed to Baltimore. If Baltimore gets a bye the first week, then they won't play the Patriots in the first round. I want Baltimore to play the Pats in the first round, because it will be in Baltimore, and I might have a shot at getting tickets.
So yeah, GO COLTS!!!
