The media is playing this whole "Colts didn't get here till Mon. night" thing way too much. Should not even be an issue. They can get pissed at the Colts for waiting till' the last min. to get to Miami, but saying this might cause them the game is just plain stupid.

That's because it's the media, and they're mad they don't have quotes and excerpts to write their articles with if the team isn't there.

IF the Colts should lose (which they are NOT going to) and hell freezes over :D , it's not going to be because Chicago arrived in Miami on Sunday with Indy arriving Monday night - that's just plain stupid. The media (can't blame them I guess, it's their job) is just reaching for something, anything to write about.

Yup, shorter deadlines, less time with players, Manning and all the other "stars" for Indy not being immediately available etc.....sure did piss off the media.

I want my gf to quit nagging me, I want to be done with school already, I want a million dollars, I want to be a professional athlete, I want one night with Keira Knightley etc....

Yeah, early as in the AFC championship game. Yes, very early; same thing as not even making the playoffs. And by getting knocked off you mean playing in a game where the refs wear colts jerseys under their stripes.

Right....you've got to be kidding me. This coming from a Pats fan when everyone knows the Pats have had every ref on their payroll for the last 5 years.

gee....
I didn't know that if you touch a QB its a 15 yard roughing the passer penalty putting them right on the 1/2 yard line.
I also didn't know that if you grab a guy and throw him to the ground in the endzone before he even touches the ball, making him miss a catch that isn't pass interference.
I also had no clue that if Peyton throws a ball into the back of someone's head that IS pass interference.

Face it, once NO lost, the Pats were fucked. The NFL needed some kind of human interest story when "america's team" was out.

I'm not bitter at all. The Patriots didn't win, I'll cry myself to sleep upset over the fact that i have never seen them win it before. Oh, wait. My friend, Mike, who is actually a DIEHARD Indy fan, was at the bar with me during the AFC champ game....and when we saw that NO lost, he actually turned to me and said, "Sorry, Katie, but you guys are FUCKED. 20 bucks says that numerous bad calls in the last 5 minutes of the Pats/Colts game ultimately results in a Colts victory." Too bad I took that bet and lost.

And the Colts lost to the Patriots before because Manning decided to suck and throw numerous INT, not because of bad calls. The Patriots constantly get bad calls in the Playoffs (Um, Champ Bailey in Denver last year in the playoffs, anyone, anyone?).

But that's neither here nor there....I'm just saying that the Colts were handed 14 points in the game v. the Patriots. I really wish that you could challenge a lack of calls in terms of penalties. When Gaffney was in the endzone and whatshis face on the ponies grabbed him and threw him to the ground and that wasn't called. Come on now.

I do think the Colts will win on Sunday, though.

That’s such a joke. Ya, the NFL wants Peyton in soooooo bad because he’s the ‘face’ of the NFL that they paid a few Refs off. Then they went and paid off a few of the Pats players too. I mean, how much money does it take for a player to drop not one, but two catches WIDE FUCKING OPEN?? Total blown coverage by the Colts, no one even close, and dddddrrrroooopppppppp!! I don’t even know how you can say you are a fan of football and really, really believe that the fix was in. I bet they had Goodell on the phone watching the NO game. He’s telling them play by play……”now don’t forget….if NO doesn’t pull this out, the Colts have GOT to win, you hear me?!?”

And the Colts lost to the Patriots before because Manning decided to suck and throw numerous INT, not because of bad calls. The Patriots constantly get bad calls in the Playoffs (Um, Champ Bailey in Denver last year in the playoffs, anyone, anyone?).

Um, ya, I see you have pretty good selective memory there. I remember it quite differently. I remember Manning ‘sucking so band and throwing numerous INTs’ because the corners for the Pats were grabbing and pushing and knocking the Colts receiving corp. around illegally with out a call from the Ref. I said then it was totally bullshit what they did, but they were smart to keep doing it because the Refs let them get away with it.

But that's neither here nor there....I'm just saying that the Colts were handed 14 points in the game v. the Patriots. I really wish that you could challenge a lack of calls in terms of penalties. Well, I agree there that should have been called, but there were other plays that the Colts didn’t’ get that gave the Pats a break too. What it comes down to, is the Pats just didn’t finish the game strong. Almost no rushing yards in the second half, dropped passes, and bad throws, good reads by the Colts D (Sanders knocking down an pass, that if it had been completed, the Pats could have killed the clock, and of course the INT). Over all, that’s what happens with ‘home field’. If the Pats had won the game during the regular season and had the Colts at home for the playoffs, the outcome would have been totally different.

I do think the Colts will win on Sunday, though.

Gee, thanks….I guess.

You have no idea what you're talking about now. How do you think the O line knows what's going on after Manning starts doing the Tango at the line? It's Saturdays job to let the rest of the line know what the play is and what they need to get done on any given play.

I think Addai (sp?) should've gotten the MVP, he clearly had a bigger role in fighting for first downs. The Bears paved a yellow brick road for Peyton, so Peyton didn't do anything special in my eyes tonight.

Like I said in another thread, based on how BOTH teams played tonight, I didn't see either one as worthy of a Super Bowl. Especially Grossman, what kind of a loser is he? And don't give me this "well it was raining" excuse. Listen folks, it rains ALL THE TIME during the NFL season and you never see this much chaos in a game.

Do you have a problem with other people's opinions? All I meant was that (watch this smartguy) based on the way they played tonight (AND the Bears) I didn't think I saw two Super Bowl calibur teams playing. Unless you're a fanboy, you can't honestly look at the tapes from tonight and say the Colts and Bears executed well. Therefore, it was like I was watching teams in the Super Bowl that didn't deserve to be there.

Just because its the Super Bowl doesnt mean youre gonna see perfect football.

I understand what you are saying, but it was a very wet and sloppy field, thats the kind of football you are going to get. 2 very good teams played tonight and the better team won. My hats off to the Colts.

who cares? They won the game. They completely outplayed the Bears in almost every aspect of the game. Do you think the Steelers or Seahawks looked like Superbowl calibur teams last year? Hell no. Just because it's the Superbowl doesn't mean its going to be a flawless game. Mistakes are made in every football game, but they are magnified a ton when it's the superbowl because people like you expect perfection.

Oh wise one, who is worthy of a Super Bowl? Is it one of the teams that didn't even make it to the playoffs, or is it one of the teams that was beaten by the Chicago Bears and Indianapolis Colts?

To me, the team worthy of a Super Bowl is the one who not only plays better than the rest but also who overcomes their own mistakes on the field - such as overcoming being the worst running defense in the league during the reg. season and also overcoming the best defense in the league (and one of the best EVER) Baltimore, or overcoming a 21-3 deficit against the NE Patriots (a friggin' dynasty) or overcoming an opening kickoff return for a TD and an early interception to come back and win the SUPER BOWL!

:lol How do you judge who is "worthy" of the Super Bowl oh wise one?

:lol Yeah, it's real logical to judge who is worthy of a Super Bowl based on one game - thus either you were being a dick, or just a moron.

Isn't crazy to think the Colts just won SuperBowl 41 (I'm coming slow be speeding) ?!?

Last year they were by far the odds on favorite to win. Blew teams out all season long, damn near went 16-0. A first round by, with home field though out the playoffs, then the shocking beat down from the Stealers and out right away.

This year was a dog fight every game. Lost to the freak'n Texans, gave up how many yards to the Jag's??? Don't even get me started on how poor the D played all season long......then Sanders makes in back into the line up....BOMB!!! They put together an unbelievable run through the playoffs, end up in the Superbowl and win it all.

I'm still a little shocked. I can't wait until next year for the banner going up, and the ring presentation.

Like Manning or Dungy (I forget) - I think it was Dungy alluded to this team not being the most talented the last 5 years but they were the most "ballsy" I guess. This team overcame a lot during the season. I have lost count as to how many close games the Colts had this season. Not going to lie, it was evident in my posts but I didn't think this was going to happen, I was a "doubting thomas" - I'm absolutely thrilled the Colts made me look like a douchebag of a fan for not believing.

Some Super Bowl Victory Parade info. although I am getting conflicting info. the paper said it starts at 4:30 but this says 4? Huh, oh well just get there early...........

A parade to honor the Indianapolis Colts - winners of Super Bowl 41 - will be at Downtown at 4:00 p.m. today, followed by a rally in the RCA Dome with the Super Bowl champions, said Pete Ward, senior executive vice president for the Colts.
The parade will begin on Maryland Street at West Street; head east to Illinois Street; turn north to New York Street and then east to Meridian Street. It will then turn south on Meridian and proceed around the west side of Monument Circle and continue south on Meridian Street to Georgia Street.
The route will then take the World Champion Colts down Georgia to the RCA Dome for a Super Bowl celebration.

The time was moved up due to cold weather, Myra Borshoff Cook, a spokeswoman for Colts owner Jim Irsay. The Colts players will remain in buses during the parade, she said.
Fans should dress warmly for the parade. While the dangerous wind chills should be gone by the time of the parade, today is still one of the coldest days of the winder.

That's funny, before the game Phil Simms (who was THERE and who PLAYED SEVERAL DOWNS in his time) said the weather would not be much of a factor. Bottom line is that a professional plays well in all weather conditions. Grow up man, this is FOOTBALL we're talking about. It's played in the rain somewhere like every week of the season (and it wasn't a hurricane drama queen). Case in point, did you see Peyton mishandling balls like Grossman did? That's the difference between a Pro who plays in all conditions and a guy who gets beaten by the positions.

The Chargers would have gone all the way I think had they not messed up against NE. After NE beat San Diego, someone in this very thread commented "Congrats indy, you just won the Super Bowl". Who was the best team this year? I think San Diego. Who won it all? The Colts. That doesn't take anything away from the Colts victory, I just personally don't think the Colts were the best team this year. Why do you care so much what I think? For instance, when the Bulls were winning with Jordan, there was no doubt the Bulls were the best team and they were winning championships too. Sometimes the best teams also win it all and live up to the hype and sometimes other teams come from behind. It's that "any given Sunday" thing.

They were saying today that Manning's thumb is messed up pretty bad. They down played it all week, but I guess it was really bothering him quite a bit. He said after the game it really helped him because he couldn't grip the ball as tight as he normally does, which is what you've got to do in a game played in the rain. I'm glad that didn't hold him back from winning the game.

:lol I agree SD is probably the best team on paper - but if that's the "measuring stick' we are going to use then the Indianapolis Colts would be a dynasty by now.

Again, the best team is the team that plays through mistakes, beat "better" teams and overcomes and handles the pressure the best (which SD obviously did not).

Again who is "worthy" of the Super Bowl? - the San Diego Chargers who with all their talent couldn't cut it? I really don't care what people think, the pleasure out of seeing the Colts win the Super Bowl is unaffected, I am just merely pointing out the absurdity of your argument that neither team being "worthy" of the Super Bowl, it's just plain idiotic.

Even though I was blacked out for most of the San Diego/Patriots game, I pretty much laughed hysterically when San Diego coaching YET AGAIN came shining through. No way in hell a team with LT should lose to a team who has Defensive core of 80 year olds, no WR and the ones they might have cannot catch to save their lives.

Oh, and if you can say Rex Grossman was worthy of a Super Bowl, yeaaaaaaah.......SB was the AFC Championship game, IMO.

To be honest, I can't stand most comentators/analysts. I think that most of the time, they are talking just to hear their own voices, but end up sound retarded. I am seriously amazed at how dumb former players can sound sometimes.

I hate Boomer just because I feel like it. I dunno... he just says dumb things.
Yeah, I agree with you on the commentators as a whole thing. I don't really know if I actually LIKE a certain commentator. I think it would be way better if commentators actually said what they thought, rather than trying to be all PC and not piss people off.

This is why I should do MNF and not Kornheiser/joe "I change my name to rhyme with heismann" theismann. :lol

Who else going to the victory parade this afternoon around 4? I don't care that it'll be single digit temps at Indy (without factoring in wind chill) I'm going to be there

So did you end up going? I couldn't believe how many people showed up. They were not prepaired for that! I also can't believe how long it ended up taking them to get there. Those poor people out in the cold had to me numb by the time they rolled around.

:lol With all the excitement I "forgot" (I just didn't think about it when I planned it out) that I just got off crutches and my knee is still swollen and stiff, making walking somewhat difficult. Well my plan was to park at school - then walk to the RCA dome, watch parade then go in for the rally but after telling my gf of our plans she points out or asks how I was planning on walking around 2 miles with my bum knee - yeah, that's when reality set in. I hurt my knee playing bball about a week ago. :lol Got so excited that I failed to think about how I was going to be able to walk to the dome and back to my car. :BANG Wished I could have gone, especially watching it on television but with my knee, it would have been very painful.

The Indianapolis Colts Super Bowl XLI Champions

......ok, what about a repeat?

Well, from what I have read Dungy is coming back, everyone is gonna be healthy (Sanders, hopefully Reagor), Simon is most likely not coming back, Stokley might be cut :shrug

Here are the list of free agents both restricted and unrestricted from the Indy Star:

Free agents
Here are the Colts who will become free agents before next season.
• Unrestricted*: DE Dwight Freeney, LB Cato June, CB Nick Harper, RB Dominic Rhodes, S Mike Doss, WR Aaron Moorehead, LB Rob Morris, WR/KR Terrence Wilkins, RB James Mungro, WR Ricky Proehl, DT Dan Klecko.
• Restricted**: CB Jason David, G Jake Scott, G Ryan Lilja, QB Jim Sorgi, LB Gilbert Gardner, DE Josh Thomas, TE Ten Utecht, DL Bo Schobel.

* Unrestricted means if the Colts don't sign the player or designate him their "franchise" player, he is free to sign with another team with the Colts receiving no compensation.

** Restricted is more complicated. A team must offer a restricted free agent a one-year contract heading into free agency or he becomes unrestricted. If the player is offered a one-year contract, he still can sign an offer sheet with another team. The Colts would then have seven days to either match the offer or allow the player to sign with the other team, in which case the Colts would receive a designated compensation.

Who should definitely be re-signed to have a good shot at a repeat, IMO: Freeney (our D is predicated on pressuring the QB without any blitzing), Lilja and Scott (O-line! I don't care how good Manning is, no QB can be successful without a solid O-line)

I'd like June back but I doubt it, Indy loses a LB every year, Nick Harper did pretty good this year, hope to get him back too. Our offense also needs TEs and Utecht is a young and very good receiving TE to go along with Clark.

Dominic Rhodes - I was critical of this guy throughout the season but .....he was a saviour in the playoffs, hope he can come back but his price definitely went up after the playoffs and a great SB.

Rob Morris - Sanders got most of the attn. but things really turned around when we put inserted Morris in (some beef! in the LB core) for Gardner. I doubt his asking price will be too much, he is getting up there in age.

Any DT, DE - our line is so small that we need to have depth at this position, it's a must.

Mike Doss - I actually think we can get away with not bringing this guy back....I dont know, Bethea did really well, and we can't keep everybody especially considering how much Freeney is going to cost.

Not going to pretend to know or understand anything about the salary cap but those are my thoughts.

Bears fan prepares to become Peyton Manning

DECATUR, Ill. (AP) - How do you spell Scott Wiese?

In a few weeks, that'd be P-e-y-t-o-n M-a-n-n-i-n-g.

Wiese, a die-hard fan of the Chicago Bears, signed a pledge in front of a crowd at a Decatur bar last Friday night that if the Bears lost Sunday's Super Bowl, he'd change his name to that of the man who led the Indianapolis Colts to victory.

Final Score: Colts 29, Bears 17.

So on Tuesday, Wiese went to the Macon County Courts Facility and started the process of changing his name.

"I made the bet, and now I've got to keep it," said the 26-year-old, who lives in Forsyth, just north of Decatur.

Wiese will now have to advertise his intention in the local newspaper - the Herald & Review - for several weeks and then have a judge give him the OK to become, legally anyway, Peyton Manning.

The men have little in common, Wiese acknowledges.

Manning the quarterback is 30 years old, stands 6-foot-5 and has a contract with the Colts worth more than $100 million.

Wiese is 5-foot-11 and works at a Staples office-supply store for somewhat less.

"I think I kind of represent all Bears fans," he said. "Not that I'm saying they're all idiots like me, but I represent their passion because I really care about my team, you know?"

Wiese's lawyer and friend, Andy Bourey, is handling the paperwork. He said he admires Wiese's sense of honor.

"I never doubted him," he said. "He's a man of his word."

While he pledged to take on the new identity, Wiese isn't sure how long he's willing to keep it.

Say, maybe, until the Bears' next Super Bowl appearance? Not likely, given that their last trip to the big game was in 1985.

"I mean, well, it may be another 21 years."

:lol :lol

I can't belive this guy is really going through with this.

I examined Manning's intense focus in the days leading up to the Super Bowl and how it rubbed some teammates the wrong way.
In a meeting two days after the AFC Championship game, at which logistics for the team's trip to South Florida were discussed, Manning stood up and disagreed with authoritarian team president Bill Polian, who'd informed players that restrictions at the Colts' hotel would not extend to the players' rooms. Manning essentially overruled Polian, standing up and saying that no one outside of players should be allowed on their floor, explaining, "I don't want any crying kids next to me while I'm trying to study."
At the time, there were grumblings of dissent from numerous Colts, including veteran cornerback Nick Harper, who later told me: "We were heated. People were saying, 'We're grown-ass men. We've got wives and kids, and we'll make those decisions for ourselves.'"

Michael Silver - SI.com

Very interesting.

Maybe Manning should be focused on getting the 'crying kids' out of his locker room.

I don't see how ANYONE can think this is not Manning's team. If they're going to go against him, they may as well be off the team. Not that much different that say Jordan with the Bulls.

Mom: I mean, no one really gives a shit about who he is dating or what hot young number he can get, because well, he can't get one like Tommy can!
Me: There is a good reason for that, mom.
Mom: He looks like he has downs?
Me: No, he's married.
Mom: WHAT?!
Me: Yeah, he married his college girlfriend.
Mom: Who would marry THAT??
Me: And the kicker is, she's actually really cute.

There is no question that the Colts would like to retain Dominic Rhodes, but there are a number of teams who are likely to come calling. The Bengals will be in the market for a change-of-pace back because their own RB Kenny Watson is an unrestricted free agent himself. The Lions are another team that could have an interest. According to a team source, the Rams will be in the market for a backup running back like Rhodes in free agency and the draft.

No I havn't picked up anything yet. I've been too busy to even try and get out, plus I know in another week the prices will start to come down some.

A friend of mine is a big Steelers fan, and he picked up this dvd after last year that had all their playoff games, but with the local radio call for the audio. That would be cool as hell. My Colts mini signed by Dom.

I've spoken with him a few times. He is always extremely friendly and willing to take a few seconds to talk to the fans.

There was one Colt who made a good impression on my wife and I. We were at a preseason game before the 2005 season and waited around afterwards to talk to some players, and some of the younger guys were walking out. Well, one of them was Matt Giordono (sorry if I butchered his last name). He was talking to these little kids, asking them if they wanted to be football players when they grew up and telling them to come out and see them again. I dunno.. some of the bigger names were just trying to get out of there, but this guy (who was pretty much unknown at the time) took a few minutes and made a real memory for these little kids. We thought it was pretty cool.

So speaking of Rhodes, anyone hear anything about him getting picked up for DUI last night? I don't know any details, but my wife told me that they were talking about it this morning on Smiley.

He's coming back. Definitely.

Obviously, you want to come back. You want to defend the title. We’ve got such a great group of guys, that that’s eventually what draws you back every year.

“I wouldn’t say it was an easy decision, but it was the right one, and it didn’t take overly long to make.

In other player news...

Freeney, a three-time Pro Bowl selection and a two-time All-Pro selection, received the Colts’ franchise designation Monday, meaning Freeney will remain with the team,

I’ve had a good talk with his agent today. We’ll continue to talk. We’ll continue to talk with the idea of putting together a long-term deal for him. He’s an integral part of this team and we want to see to it that that gets done if at all possible.”

Hey Hey how is that new credit card commercial coming for Tommy and his O-line? You remember, the one where they go everywhere he goes to protect him. I don’t know for sure if they’re working on a new one, but since Tommy obviously doesn’t have any protection, I just kind of thought that would be the next step.

I don't know if I'd go as far to say 'all should be well'. I hope he get's his act together fast if thinks he's in for a big payday from some team out there.

So, have you talked to him? What's he going to do? Stay with the current tramp, or go back to the old hag? I think she got herself knocked up. She traped him! She knew she was about to loose her meal ticket, and needed to cash in quickly!!

He's not going back to Bridget. He dumped her three months ago because she said she wanted marriage and kids, and he said no. Ten bucks says they had one last romp and she went off the pill and planned it.

AGREED ON THE MEAL TICKET. Bitch.

Although, yesterday, my mom called me up PISSED to all high hell. She said something like it happened to Tom because he's hot. Convo:

Me: Well, this wouldnt happen to Peyton Manning.
Mom: Well no shit, no girl would have sex with him. That is why he would never have an illegitimate kid.
Me: MOM, FOR THE 8 BILLIONTH TIME.....PEYTON IS MARRIED.
Mom: Oh, sorry, I keep forgetting. Poor woman.
Me: Yeah, being married to the richest guy in the NFL. Poor woman.
Mom: But she has to wake up next to him.

:eek The Colts are turning into the Bungles.......

First the DUI by Rhodes (which is somewhat serious) and now........

Indianapolis Colts tight end Dallas Clark was ejected from a girls' high school basketball game Saturday in Burnside, Iowa, apparently for something he said to an official. . . "(Clark) said something like, 'Your partners stink,' so Mr. Collison said, 'I want him out of here,'" Grandfield said. "Nobody even noticed. He was sitting by the gym door.

"I don't know if he said something before that. Dallas gets into the game. He supports his school. It was a good game, a heated game. But we have fans who say a lot worse things than that."

Unrestricted

DE Dwight Freeney: His short-term fate was sealed Monday with the "exclusive franchise" tag. A better option for him and the team is a long-term contract. Stay tuned.
LB Cato June: The departure of quality linebackers needs to end (Mike Peterson, Marcus Washington, David Thornton). The former Pro Bowler should be retained unless his price is unreasonably high.
RB Dominic Rhodes: An invaluable sidekick to Joseph Addai and a force during the Super Bowl run. But he might want to be "the guy'' somewhere else and be paid accordingly.
CB Nick Harper: Has been the team's best corner the past three seasons, but he might be deemed expendable considering the presence of so many young, high draft picks at the position (Jason David, Marlin Jackson, Kelvin Hayden, Tim Jennings).
S Mike Doss: Was playing the best ball of his career when he suffered a season-ending knee injury on Oct. 22. The injury and the emergence of Antoine Bethea might make him expendable.
LB Rob Morris: One of the reasons for the defense's dramatic turnaround in the postseason. He deserves a multiyear deal based on his contributions as a starter, backup and special-teams contributor.
WR Aaron Moorehead: Competent backup to Pro Bowlers Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne. Indy is a nice spot for him, unless he gets the chance to be a No. 2 elsewhere.
RB James Mungro: Could return as an affordable No. 3 back. His rehab from a preseason knee injury is on schedule.
DT Dan Klecko: Worth re-signing. He's one of those important players whose versatility -- he also proved valuable as a blocking/receiving fullback -- can save a roster spot.
KR Terrence Wilkins: Might be brought back at some point, but the team used a seventh-round pick in the '06 draft on T.J. Rushing with the idea he would be the return man.
LB Rocky Boiman: Might want to go elsewhere if there's a chance to play on defense. Failing that, he might be a decent option before training camp.
WR Ricky Proehl: Adios. The 17-year veteran announced before the Super Bowl his intention to retire.

Restricted

G Jake Scott: Has earned a contract, developing into a top-notch starter on one of the league's premier offensive lines.
G Ryan Lilja: See above.
CB Jason David: Yes, he's undersized (5-8, 180 pounds), but he's also too good to dismiss. Might require a mid-level qualifying offer (see definitions below).
LB Gilbert Gardner: Tough decision. Will another year in the system pay dividends, or was his inability to hold onto the starting strong-side spot evidence he's out of his league?
QB Jim Sorgi: Worth bringing back. He knows the system and could run the offense in the short term if the unthinkable happens.
TE Ben Utecht: Key component in the tight-end rotation. His best years are ahead of him.
DE Josh Thomas: Keeps improving. A solid backup for starters Freeney and Robert Mathis.
DE Bo Schobel: Role player. If he doesn't get interest elsewhere, maybe he's re-signed during offseason.

ya, I don't get that either. There had to me more than that. I mean, come on, that's all it takes? Maybe it's just here in Indiana that we get that worked up. They may not be used to that kind of abuse out in Iowa.
