New team to beat in the AFC - The Patriots. Gotta admit, they are putting themselves in a position to contend once again.
Free Agency is just not the Indy way, we have been successful the last 6-7 yrs. with developing players from within and I don't see anything changing next season. GO COLTS!
Oh heads up for tonight - Peyton Manning is hosting SNL tonight :thumbsup

i think the Colts are the team to beat in the AFC since they won the super bowl, but yeah the Patriots have definitely made some nice moves.

I just got back from Vegas, they have the Colts as 4-1 odds to win next year, with the Pats at 9-2. That might as well be the same.

I'm fine with Bethea and Sanders, and I can't say I'm shocked that Doss is leaving. But damn.

i think he will rebound, but I always thought he was extremely overhyped just because he went to Ohio State. He's a nice player though, and he'll help out the secondary.

Day off today!
Watchin' Super Bowl 360 on ESPN which is a behind the scenes look on the "event" aspect of the game, very interesting.
Got me to thinking too how great it'd be if Indy gets Superbowl in 11'. Dallas and Arizona are the other candidates for the game.

Doss is a solid player - but compared to the other losses (i.e. Harper, June), I'm not worried at all about the loss of Doss; Bethea did quite well last year as a young player.

If by "beat your asses" you mean "the refs handed it to Gay-ton in the last five minutes with three horrible calls" then yes, you did beat our asses.
"PINKY ON THE QB!?!? PUT HIM ON THE ONE YARD LINE!!!"
"Hitting a Patriots player in the back of the head = pass interference"
"Wrapping your arms around a Pats player in the endzone and throwing him to the ground before the ball is anywhere near him does not = interference!!!"
Once N.O. Lost, NE was fucked.
Must suck losing some great defensive guys knowing that a rival got 8 amazing receivers. I wonder what it's going to be like watching a game where Tommy actually has someone to throw it to. He didn't last year, so it'll be good.

Oh PLEASE! Like the Patriots have never been on the good end of a few shady calls. And by a few, I mean more than their share. And I'll have to rewatch the game, because I don't necessarily remember what you are even taking about.
And yeah it does suck losing some of our defense. But then again, this forces them to rebuild. Our defense was utterly lackluster during the entire regular season.

Oh, I'm well aware. Do you think I walk around saying that the Patriots WON the Stl/NE super bowl? ehhhhhhhhhhhh not exactly. I pretty much say that Stl. was fukt because of the whole 9/11 thing. Just a theory, but whatever :)

Ya it's pretty bad, just like a few years ago in the playoffs where the Colts receivers were just getting killed by the Pats corners and not one play was called. I've said it before, good job Pats because the refs are letting them get away with, so might as well keep doing it.

If the Colts players get killed, they deserve it. Was that the same game where Peyton threw 3 interceptions? See, there you just deserve to lose. Kinda like when Tommy threw that last int. to that fatass colts guy. Do you really WANT to lose, orrrrrrrrrrr.......?

eeehh...I could care less at this point about the Pats. It goes without saying they're going to be better this year. I'll worry about them in the playoffs. I'm more worried about droping all the defensive players, and how much stronger the AFC South is going to be this year. uuummmm....Payton thew three interceptions because every time he would put it in the air, New England's corners would just take the Colts receiver down. Now, there's no Colts player to catch the pass....that makes it pretty easy to pick one off don't ya think?

because the AFC east is disgraceful, had a pretty easy schedule, you have the 2nd best quarterback in the league :), you had 2 solid RBs, a solid defense, and a great coach.
and I guess it just seems really funny to me to see and hear people get so fired up at those two WRs when the Colts have 2 of the top 6 or 7 in the league. Stallworth would be a #3 (and probably our 4th option after Dallas Clark) for the Colts but will be the definite #1, by a long shot, for the Patriots.

Agreed. I can see if a QB has the ball, and they get tackled. whatever. And if the QB CLEARLY doesn't have the ball and someone just blind-sides them, then yeah wtf is that about.
But if someone is running at the QB and he releases the ball just as the defensive player gets to him, and the defensive guy takes all the necessary steps to try to back off but ends up shoving the QB in the process, that's not roughing the passer.

There were soooo many times last year watching different games when I'd get so pissed off because some of the shit that was called should not have been called. I'm interested to see if the league backs down a little this year, because it was way too out of controll last year.

That's called shielding - and it's illegal. If you don't play the ball and just shield the WR from the ball it's pass interference. Get over last year, and all this conspiracy theory shit, you lost, get over it. I think Kravitz hit it on the nail with his column yesterday. It doesn't make sense but Polian's history of very successful drafts with the Colts, you really can't complain; the guy knows what he is doing.
I thought the same thing when they drafted Wayne and Clark (again, similar to Kravitz) I thought, everyone thought we should have drafted defense but ...... Polian went his own way and obviously it worked, let's hope this draft is as successful as the past few drafts.
:shrug Although (I really hate to say it) I am worried about the Pats, the team just RE-LOADED for the Super Bowl. Again, I hate to admit it but they are the FAVORITES for next year, at least on paper, they are scary. -- Indianapolis appears to have a slight lead over Dallas in the bidding for the 2011 Super Bowl. The league's owners will select the site for the '11 game at its spring meeting in Nashville on May 22. Indy, Dallas and Phoenix are the three finalists, but a league insider said Phoenix, which will host this season's championship game, is running a distant third. Indianapolis, whose new stadium will open in 2008, is believed to have the support of many of the owners of the league's midmarket teams. There also is an anti-Jerry Jones faction in the league that would rather play the game in Saskatchewan than see the Cowboys' owner get it. Jones has pointed out to his fellow owners that former commissioner Paul Tagliabue promised the '11 Super Bowl to Arlington (the Dallas-Fort Worth suburb where the Cowboys' stadium is being built) if the city helped fund a stadium.

Indy's biggest disadvantage was the lack of "glitz and glamour" or hot-spots to hold parties. Also the size of the Cowboys' stadium tipped it to them.
As for the argument of Indy's inability to hold a large event.....ever heard of the Indianapolis 500?
350,000 people converge in the city to watch it - three hundred and fifty thousand people; so yeah, you're wrong. :lol

I think Indy's problem for now is that they got away from the big time Super Bowl cities for a while and nobody like Jacksonville, Detroit, or Houson. In a few years I can see it getting awarded to Indy.

Yeah, I don't know, the 2011 vote was real close, apparently from what I've read it was the 20K difference in stadium capacity (100K in Dallas and 80K for Indy). I really hope Indy gets it considering the new stadium that is being built. There's talk that they'll try again for 2012, the city is just waiting to see what other cities are going to compete. I'm sure it's a lot more complicated than that but hopefully we get one.
Manning winning a Super Bowl in Indianapolis then retiring sounds pretty good to me :D..........can always hope.

You know, with all the lack of glitz and glamour, Indy's downtown is probably one of the cleanest, nicest downtowns that I have been to. I LOVE downtown indy. As far as clubs and stuff like that go, there really are a ton. There are places like 6 Lounge, Ice, Seven, etc. that celebrities can/have hang out.

i actually got a chance to speak with Steve Campbell, the deputy mayor of Indianapolis, the other day. He was very involved in the recent Superbowl bid for the city. He said the deciding factor was Dallas deciding to put in 25K more seats at the last minute. The NFL told Indy's committee that it was the most impressive proposal that they had ever seen. Whether they would put a bid in for 2012 is still up in the air. It all depends on what other cities decide to put a bid in. If cities like New Orleans, Miami, San Diego, etc. decide to put bids in, obviously Indy would probably not. Campbell said that the NFL kind of acts like "traffic police" in that they will tell teams a good/bad year to place a bid. Pretty interesting conversation.

I thought it was pretty cool of Irsay to not want to include the SuperBowl win from Baltimore, I think that's how everyone here feel. This team and that team are not linked together. This is the first Superbowl win for the Indianapolis Colts.

Uh, yeah, only an idiot would call them the same team. Cuz I'm fucking PISSED that Johnny Unitas is listed as an INDY colt in the hall of fame.
That's fucking bullshit. Two different teams. You don't see Steve McNair saying he was an Oilers Player and now he plays for the Browns.

Yeah, everyone needs to move on - esp. the Baltimore fans blaming the current Irsay and players with the move.
Definitely a good move by Irsay.

I play in the same golf group w/ the team's (and Irsay's) pilot. He brought it out to the course Saturday morning and was showing it off.

I know I'm supposed to like the Colts since they are my hometown team and all, but I have too many friends who work in public service in the downtown area and everytime they have had to serve one of these guys they act all holier than thou and shit. Don't tip, act like assholes and just generally force the people who have the unluckly misfortune to serve them to hate the team (or in some cases individual players) from there on out.
It's sad. I kind of wish I didn't know how they act off the field (especially to my friends). I would normally be all about the home team, but not in this instance.
I even went so far as to wear a Bears shirt on Superbowl Sunday to work just out of protest. I almost got lynched. :)

So, what does everyone think? You really think Freeney is really worth THAT much money? He's a great player, no question about that. I just know know what they play to do as a team with so much money tied up in such a small number of players.....
I don't think that much money was a good move at all.....

You know, you take the "Colts" out of that, and you can pretty much put in any professional team, from any sport, from any city. That's just the way a lot of these players are. That doesn't make it right, either. Ryan Leaf said it best in an interview about Manning being in the SuperBowl and Ryan being out of the NFL. A lot of these player don't have the family background or upbringing to show them how to act. Now they get millions and millions of dollars all at once, and they become assholes, just like Ryan did. :shrug

He looks good in the picture, but I realy fear he just didn't want to get into playing shape by the start of the season....Didn't have a problem with this last year?
While participating in the team's offseason conditioning program in early May, Glenn came to realize he no longer had a strong desire to do what it took to prepare for another season.
"I began to feel like I was going through the motions,'' he said.
After returning to his offseason home in California, Glenn decided "my passion and desires had begun to diminish and I began to heavily consider retirement,'' he said.

There's no point in drafting a Def. backup team. Once you're coming up on your bye week just pick the best waiver to match up against their opponent.
I can't wait for the Colts vs. Saints game Thursday. It will be hard to cheer against Drew Brees as he was the QB when I went to Purdue and is my Fantasy QB, but he's not a Colt and that's all that matters.

Colts D looked real good. I know it's just week one but it just really shows how much so called "experts" from ESPN, SI.com etc... really know talking about the Colts D actually being worse than last year's regular season D because of the losses of the corners and cato. Although the loss of Booger really really does suck.
- Colts' corners (Jackson, Hayden) are better than last year's corners; they are bigger and more physical.
- Keiaho with a little more time/exp. is going to be better than June. Keiaho is more than athletic enough to play the pass in the cover 2 and more importantly much more physical than June; seriously how many mis-tackles did June have last year?
- Bethea is solid and let's just hope Bob Sanders stays healthy this year
- The DTs, Ed Johnson looked real promising. He played great in the pre-season and obviously well enough against the Saints. Still worried about the DTs for the Colts though, but they started out pretty good.
- Freeney got screwed for a sack last night, he should have had one, what the hell was that?
- Whoever picked up Addai for their fantasy team is gonna clean up. After tonight's game, everyone is just gonna play back and soft trying to prevent the big plays. And Manning will just dump it to Addai underneath and hand it off to him all year.
- I still think we need another RB to share the load with Addai. Addai is good enough to carry the load and be successful during the year but how is his body going to hold up for the playoffs? Addai has never been the "work-horse" back EVER in his career (LSU and last year). I hope the Colts find another RB or develop Keith enough to have a legitimate two-back offense.
- Madden actually made great sense last night about Ugoh. He is athletic enough to handle the speed rush, but he really needs to get lower! Def. ends will just bull-rush him all year if does not "sit" and lower those hips. Isn't this football fundamentals that was taught in pee-wee football? Although he was still did a decent enough job last night.
- Gonzales didn't play much last night, they still kept Dallas at slot with Utecht at TE. You figure they would be more potent (and quick) if they had Gonzales at slot and Dallas at TE, but it worked last night so.....
- It's odd, but I don't want another "perfect/undefeated" season angle for the Colts, it's distracting and is just a waste.
Great game last night, hope the D keeps it up!
GO COLTS! :multi

From Peter King - SI.com
Didn't know the Colts were top 10 in cap space, SWEET!
One more reason to fear the Colts: They are, relatively speaking, in phenomenally good cap shape. The 10 teams that open the season with the most to spend under the league's $109-million cap limit:
1. Minnesota $19.05 million
2. Jacksonville $18.66 million
3. Tampa Bay $17.12 million
4. Buffalo $13.77 million
5. Indianapolis $13.32 million :hump
6. Kansas City $12.99 million
7. Dallas $12.95 million
8. Tennessee $12.93 million
9. Green Bay $12.80 million
10. Oakland $11.99 million
The teams pinching pennies the most as the season dawns: Chicago ($647,000), Detroit ($1.68 million), Arizona ($1.74 million) and the Giants ($1.76 million).

Ya, Vinatieri almost looked liked a sub-par kicker yesterday. He really looked off his game.
I think all AFC South games are going to be really tuff this year. The South will not be a cake walk this year for sure.
How freak'n smart is Pollian? Drafting some "unknown" RB named Addia. Then he becomes the starter and looks awesome. He made some great cuts yesterday, really had great field vision. He's going to become a great back over the next couple of seasons.

Yah, I think Polian has earned the label of genious. The way he built the Bills (unfortunate he didn't get a SB win out of that but a GM can only do so much) and obviously now with our Colts.
Addai :thumbsup Although I am still adamant about not "over-working" the guy during the reg. season.
And I agree about the Division. The Texans are looking good and the Jags has had a tough D the last couple of years. It'll be tougher than what most people are thinkin.

That sounds just like an afternoon at my place during a colts game. My parents and my sister were over yesterday with her three kids to watch the game. Two things the Colts need to improve.
1. Converting more red zone TDs. Can't keep relying on 20+ yards TDs. More TDs and less field goals!
2. The special teams sucks. I can't believe we haven't fixed this yet. The Colts special teams is so inconsistent. Every week the Colts give up at the very least 1 big play; it's getting old.
Anyways, still a good win. GO COLTS.
Oh and Gonzales needs to worry about catching the ball first before trying to make moves, the dropped passes is b/c he already starts thinking about what he's going to do with the ball before he catches the ball.

Good win yesterday. Its funny that for most Colts fans, we didn't go into this game thinking anything of it. I mean, ok, they're doing well this year, and they beat us last year. But they beat us at the end of the season after we knew we were going to the playoffs. But for Texans fans, I guess they were making it out to be like one of the biggest games of the season. They certainly played us that way.
Tak_a_Tak
09-24-2007, 10:36 AM
I expected a very close game. They always play us well when they are at home, they're having a great season so far, and we are the current champs. I think it's funny how the 'sports experts' are putting the Colts down for not having a very good season so. Even though we are 3-0, they're not blowing teams out like the Pats or the Steelers are.
I was a little upset with the teams ability to score in the red zone. It looked very easy to move the ball right down the field, but then we seemed to stall once inside the 20.

Well shit, that was a costly victory :BANG
Morris mostly likely out for the season, although Boiman played decent as his replacement the previous two games he was out.
Harrison, Addai, Utecht, Sanders are all nicked up; hopefully nothing serious from any of them.
I actually missed the game (had to go to a funeral) so I can't comment much about the game, but based on the stats the defense seemed to have played poorly. Did it look like last year's D? (overpursue + mis-tackles = last year's D)

I would go as far to say the D looked as bad as last year. It seemed like they were in for a very long day, but by the end of the first, they seemed a little better. Most of Henry's yards came on the first drive. What was it, like an 80 drive? All runs, not one pass. Once they got past the first, they seemed to adjust and started to fill holes and make the plays. They still gave up way to much on the ground.
It wasn't so much overpursue + mis-tackles, but more like Denver really opening up lanes to run in and Indy not filling the gaps well.

Is it bad that I really don't give a shit (or even really like) any of the other AFC South teams? Does that make me just another cocky Colts fan? Because really, I just don't. They don't excite me. They are good teams, don't get me wrong. They always play the Colts hard. But they don't excite me at all.

Man, that was one hell of a hit that Clark took. The look on his face was really bad.
Keith have an awesome game. Looks like he going to fit right in. Bye next week, then it a big AFC South game on Monday night!
Yah, I was thinkin some broken ribs......fortunately he just got the wind knocked out of him.
He had a funny interview after the game, a reporter asked him what was going through his mind......broken rib? concussion? etc......he replies by saying "I was thinking more along the lines of death" :lol
Anyone else think our LB crew is playing great...even with the injuries? I thought Boimann and Hagler played very well.

They're not as flashy as other teams definitely, but they always give the Colts all they can handle, especially Tenn.
VY, never has great stats but damn he just always figures out a way to give Indy's D all kinds of fits.

I had a question about Colts fans...
Are you guys cool??
I'm flying out to visit my friend in St. Joseph, MI from November 1st through the 5th... We've got tickets to the Colts/Pats game!! I'm wicked excited. What I want to know... is what am I in for?? I'm not at all an asshole... I definitely get along with everyone... I'm not one to piss someone off unless they KNOW that I'm joking. Am I going to have problems with Colts fans??
I've been to 49ers games and Raiders games most often, and Raiders fans are straight up thugs. I never wear my Patriots colors when I go to a Raiders game. They're still butt-hurt from January 2002...
Last year, I visited my friend in Michigan, and we did the road trip to Green Bay for the Pats game. I've never seen cooler fans than Green Bay fans. As soon as we parked and got out of the car, the Cheeseheads were offering us Cider... Even though we were DECKED out in Pats gear. They were so hospitible. It was really great. When we got to our seats, we got a bunch of crap from the guys around us, but as soon as I made a couple of jokes at the expense of the Patriots, they realized I didn't take it THAT seriously that I couldn't laugh at myself... They loved us... At the end of the game, even after a 35 point shut out, they shook my hand and wished me safe travels... it was really cool.
So... am I to be expecting more of the Green Bay type of fans, or the Raiders type of fans?? I'm GUESSING more of the Raiders type of fans, but only because the Colts and the Patriots is such a heated rivalry...
Either way... I really hope it's a great game, and I REALLY hope both teams are undefeated come November 4th.
Good Luck until then, Colts fans!!

Eh, I highly doubt you're gonna have problems. I actually wish Colts fans were a bit more "hostile" - we're known to be the exact opposite.....but I guess you never know.
Either way, it'll be a hell of a time. Have fun you lucky bastard :thumbsup (Colts vs. Pats - wish I had a tix)

I would say you can expect something more like Green Bay. Now with that being said, you can also expect to be booed, people yelling at you, lot's of greif, but you should feel like anyone is going to throw a punch. Most of it is all in good fun.
On the other hand, anytime you add beer into the equation, bad things can happen. I have seen more that one fight break out during a game. It doesn't happen very often.
The best was opening night, there was this guy the row in front of us. He and his girl were all decked out in Saints gear. He walks up talking all kind of shit, saying the Colts are nothing, that they're gonna get their ass handed to them. Ya, he was getting so much shit thrown back at him, he left at the start of the 4th. :lol

Now why in the world would I need a rag like that?
You're not going to have any problems finding a Manning jersey now are ya?
One item I think still need to be set, is how long should we have the picture be set for? I guess what I'm really asking is, how long will you be able to leave your picture in #18 as your profile?

I would say you should plan to have your picture up for a week....Until the next Sunday?

A week is fine, as long as you don't mind going through all that trouble for just 7 days.

So I met Peyton Manning today.
Ok, so I didn't really meet him. But I definitely saw him. He definitely walked right past me. Like, I could've reached out and patted him on the back and said "Way to go, Big P!" but in all likelihood, he would have turned around and pounded me like the giant football player that he is.
Actually, he wasn't that big. I was a bit surprised. It was weird. I was at the restaurant with my sister-in-law (who was shadowing me today) and I was facing the back. She is in the middle of a sentence, and there he was, walking towards us. I interupted her and said (under my breath) "Peyton Manning. Its Peyton Manning. He's walking right towards us. Its Peyton Manning. No, I'm not kidding." He was kinda ducking his head and scratching his eyebrow so people wouldn't bother him, so I obviously didn't say anything. That, and if I were famous, I wouldn't want a bunch of idiot 20somethings bothering me when I am taking my wife out to lunch. A few seconds later we saw a really expensive looking BMW with windows tinted until they were practially black drive by.
Yeah, highlight of the week. Enjoy that bye week, Peyton.
On a sidenote, the server told me that he frequents the restaurant. At least once a week, I think he said. Very interesting. And no, I won't be staking out the restaurant from now on.

Standing next to me, YOU look like a giant. And that ain't saying much.
Actually, to be honest, I was surprised how small he looked. Maybe its because when we see him, he always looks so larger than life.

:thumbsup Sweet. I'm guessing Ruth's Chris.
I met J.O once (yah, he's no Manning) - it was at B. Ripple on a Fri. or Sat. night (don't remember) a few yrs. back. It was odd because he was just standing there by the hotdog stand (in front of Cardinal Fitness) by himself with no "entourage" just chattin' up with the hotdog vender, shook his hand and told him good luck with the season and walked away. Seemed like a decent enough guy. Go Pacers! :lol Funny how quickly Indy went from a hardcore Pacer town to what it is today.
Not complainin' though, thank god for Peyton Manning and the timing of our beloved Colts getting good at exactly the "right time". If it wasn't for Peyton and the Colts playin' the way they've been playin' - the Colts probably would have moved. *shudders* Imagine that.

Peyton Manning is HUGE. I am wicked confused. My friend, Kerry met him and Archie in Las Vegas when she was there for work, and she's about 5'5"....I posted the picture around here somewhere...Peyton towered over her.
That's cool you saw him, though. You should have started chanting "CUT THAT MEAT! CUT THAT MEAT!"

I can't imagine living in a city when your city's pro football team, THE COLTS, moves to another city.
Oh, wait.
