yes the coughing thing was an interesting tidbit given to me by my mother of all people. she jokingly said that if you coughed you could throw a guy across the room. I experimented with that until i found I could isolate and control those muscles without coughin. much to the delight of the people who've experience it.

Similar technique for learning to wrinkle my nose, but less fun to tell. :lol

Well, you'll either see a giddy, happy jester Monday morning or a sad-sack bitter at the injustice of the Academy...

We're going to try and see all of the Best Picture Nominees in the next two days (with the exception of Master & Commander... just not interested). ROTK we've seen. Mystic River tonight, and if we can find a copy we'll rent Lost in Translation and Seabiscuit for the weekend (I've seen it, she hasn't).

Did you have anything to give him for pain? I feel so bad for him. How is Zilla? We gave him 2 aspirin and some Vitamin E last night to bring down the swelling...but it also caused the nose to bleed a bit more...the vet said it was better to have a nosebleed than to have the tissue swell around his brain/head, so we just kept him quiet and put down towels under his head...he slept in the kitchen on a bed with a space heater. (He was shivering a bit from the pain response)..but he is out with Freddie feeding the horses, so I think he will survive. Thank God...

Here's some reading material for you (we're having technical difficulties here at work, so I have time to do this sort of thing). This is the second telling of a story--the first time I wrote it was in high school, senior year, my creative writing class. We were to compose a "modern myth". Well, it's not really "modern" per se but it's my own invention. Hope you like it--I'll post the rest a little later.

"The Changing of Spring Into Summer"

The found Treylene encased in ice. The sun shone in the sky that day, yet it had no power to warm the people. The bare branches were budded and silent, silent as the songbirds that preened among them. The wind was the only sound, cool and lonely.

The people found Treylene and struck at her prison with the implements of their hands. Time and again they raised the pick and the hammer into the sky, following a downbeat like the rhythm of a heart. When she had become lost in the winter the people had feared the worst. Some thought the season of snow would never surrender. And they were right. For although this thaw had unmasked the grasses, and the month of Vernamorn had come on as before, still spring sat silent and dead, a wheel untouched and unturning.

They found Treylene encased in ice, and now their swipes and blows had nearly freed her. Only a thin skin of melting transparence kept her apart from the world, and they layed their harsh implements aside to seek her release with the bare warmth of their hands. Rivulets coursed down at their touch, and Treylene lay like a child in the womb, curled and closed-eyed.

She was beautiful—hair of emerald, vibrant as new leaves, and flesh that was rich with the colors of the earth. The eyes beneath those lowered lids were the pure blue of the sky, and some believed that if you looked into them deeply the wisps of the whitest clouds crossed them, casting shadows. Her body was shapely as a rose, stolid as an oak.

A dozen hands found Treylene and bore her out from her icy prison. They carried her with all the gentleness of their being, as if she were a thing not of blood and flesh but of glass and paper. Atop the pale hill they deposited her; a man, Carthin, spread her hair about and smoothed it. A woman, Dallian, took one hand in her own and soothed it with a kiss. Others stood back a ways—after the long winter’s crowding, no one could bear the thought of gathering close. They began to whisper…

Breathe…
Breathe…
Breathe…

Spring sat like a stage before the curtain, before the lights.

Breathe, they chanted. Breathe, prayed. Breathe, and Treylene’s sudden gasp brought all the color flooding back into the world. They had hardly understood what was missing, but the moment those heavenly irises fluttered open in surprise the land awakened. The birdsong sparkled like stars at twilight, and the buds of the trees split to unfurl. The sun, released from winter’s hold, warmed the earth.

For weeks Treyelene walked the countryside, and it was said that everywhere the wildflowers grew at her feet. As each year before, suitors came to vie for her affections, but all she turned away, many with a parting kiss that would, in time, take them to find their own true loves.

Then, one day, a man called Savin arrived before her—a lone traveler who had come to her before, many years ago when just a boy. Savin had received the lady’s kiss but never found his love, and now he had returned. He spoke to Treylene with the tenderest poetry, the fiercest passion, telling her of the distant lands he had traversed. Places fiery, and the air so full of water that a breath could quench a lover’s thirst. His stories warmed the soul of Treylene, and she assented.

That day Treylene walked with Savin through the fields. At dusk they embraced, lay down in the tall grasses, and disappeared from the world forever. The day is still marked by heavy, humid air, and the crashing thunderstorms that herald the true beginning of summer.

I guess that falls under the catagory of "If you ask the question..."Yep, I would say that it does...
Honestly though, I cannot imagine ever paying full price for any item of clothing...not when I can find all my favorites for less that $5.00 (and that's a HIGH price for clothes)...
I have all these animals, it just makes no sense to wear anything I might get all snippy over if they happen to slobber on me, jump on me or bite into my clothes...(I have a horse that LOVES to unbutton pants...strange one he is...and he takes a corner of a shirt and just pulls me along...)

There is no doubt in my mind that one day I will get to meet the man. I have gotten so close that I am not going to give up.

how so?!

I would be really frustrated if I got close to meeting the man, but didn't...

I always find names that have some sort of symbolism...Casper...found in a cemetary...Egan, little fire...he was paralyzed at birth but had and has such a vibrant spirit, he can walk now:)
You could name your phish Deogee...

You have such a kind heart...I don't think I could deal with something like that.Oh but the rewards far out weigh the sadness when they first come to me...seeing Casper now, sans his head kick, he is glowing, vibrant, broken leg healed (he has a shattered leg...)and the scars around his neck are gone...he eats like a horse...:)
And Egan, born in my kitchen, a shelter mom who was going to be euthanized that day, but I swear, his eyes just told me that I had to give him a chance to fight, and fight he did.

It's people like you that deserve the true rewards in life...Deserve? I appreciate that thought but in all honesty, it is these animals that are so deserving after all they have been through. How could one NOT help if they had the time/space? That is beyond my reasoning. Seeing them sleeping on a warm bed, eating regular meals, drinking clean water, running around the fields with actual "dog smiles"...that is more than enough reward for me.

I just think that it's unfair that more people out there don't take the time, money, and consideration that you take in treating this animals. You deserve some sort of big 'ol pat on the back.
