I think that the measure of a truely worthwhile relationship has alot to do with staying as close to that 50/50 as humanly possible. When someone claims that they have "the upper hand" in a certain situation, or that they allow the other person to "take control", that's a sign that they like to think they're in control either way. It also creates the illusion that any given situation of a relationship is either in the hands of one or the other.

Love is supposed to be about compromise, sacrifice and interdependency, right? In other words, control needs to be 50/50 or at least striven for. If that balance can't be had, then I think don't it's meant to be.

I agree that in a perfect world, you are 100% correct but in the world we live in -- 50/50 can not be achieved. People in general will push as far as hard as they can until finding the break point and that point will always lean one way or another. Think of all the relationships you know of and tell me one that is perfectly 50/50? Think of your mom and dad, friends, etc. I guarantee someone has the upper hand. It's almost like going against nature for two people to share control 50/50.

We get along famously though! We have never had a disagreement and are both way down to earth. My family loves him and he even had my 14 year old sister spend the night with us Saturday night.
