just so everyone knows....i met Butch last year in Albany and thanked him on behalf of the Rochester DMB community for coming to this great city. I also said I would appreciate it if he could pass it on to the band that I want them coming to Rochester to perform in one form or another every year.

HEY, this is in my back yard. Let me tell you, last year I had my math final the day of the dmb show..December 16th and I had a final?!? what the hell?!? oh well, i skipped out early on the math final (still pulled a B) and got in a taxi and booked it to the show. This year...I have my math final on Sunday morning...WHO HAS A MATH FINAL ON A SUNDAY MORNIGN...luckily i can say "F* it" in advance and get up sleepy for the test rather then miss the show.... I"M ALL IN!!! oh yeah, i'm ordering 1 ticket through warehouse, and then if i get it i'm camping out to buy the 2nd ticket (my sisters going too) either way i'm hoping to get kick ass seats...but...we'll see...who's up for a 15 hour camp out infront of blue cross for tickets?!?

why would you buy 2 separate tickets? get 2 from the WH, 2 from TM, sit with your sister and sell the extra pair. it wont be hard to find a buyer.

first off, i don't have 200 dollars lying around, secondly if you get 2 WH tickets they'll put you further back, illustrated by my last two shows that I got WH tickets where I got solo ones and my friends got doubles, they were 15 rows further back, sure it may be a loto, but there's a loto for singles and a loto for doubles. and I'm not going through ticketmaster, I'm going through the venue, 15 hour camp out infront of the box office. It's 5 minutes down the road and I have nothing else to do (honestly, i don't...college is boring sometimes) so I'll go, meet interesting poeple (met alot of good people there last time i camped out) and get great seats, like i did last time when i was 17 rows from the stage. That's why, and last year when i camped out and bought 2 tickets, it was hard as hell to find a buyer (suprised me a hell of alot, but i was looking here at school, and there were finals that week).

get online and calling as soon as they go on sale. i usually get real good tickets when i get online or calling right away. sometimes you get lucky though. i got floor seats in montreal this year 2 hours after they went on sale.

We're thinking of doing a big meetup pre-show either at the Dinosaur (which is going to be packed anyways) or at one of the bars on Alexander and then head over to the show. The bars on Alexander will probably be pretty quiet, since it's early evening on Saturday -- and it's not like anyone could get a seat at Dino unless they showed up at 3 or 4 in the afternoon and stayed through to the show itself.

I just made a reservation for the Crowne Plaza for the 20th. $69 US - approx. $93 Canadian. Stayed there last year. Beautiful hotel and about a 2 minute walk down the street to the arena. There wasn't a lot of food choices in the area after the show, but this year is a Saturday. Plus it's not that far of a walk into the downtown area.

I'd suggest looking into the Crowne Plaza (http://www.rochestercrowne.com). The Clarion Hotel (just across the river) is around $100 US, the Days Inn is around $90 US and the Hyatt is around $140 US.

Now all I need is tickets... heh. Oh well, hotel reservations can always be cancelled.

shep@nancies

Definite possibility. I figure if we get enough folks in advance, I'd hit up a couple of the bars earlier on and see if they'll run drink specials for us or something.

Salingers would be awesome but it will be crowded, but now that I think about it we will be there early, because the show wont start until 8 or so.....

Yeah, I'm not so sure we'd be down for Rain or Tonic. Rain's personally not my thing; Tonic's dress code can suck a nut, imho.

The best deal we found on hotels was at the Days Inn through hotels.com, roughly $200 for 2 nights for 2 people. I think early on Saturday, we'd be set with Blue Room. With the amount of people we've got planned, we could potentially take the joint over and not worry about other patrons. Parking's right in back, and we just head Alexander --> Monroe --> Broad for Blue Cross and parking.

Ryan - updating it now. :)

That is what Tiki Bobs is for....

edit: To clarify... I am not sure if you can get into those places being 19 unless you have a good fake. They do not have under 21

There is a bar called Tiki Bobs that I think is 18+ but maybe not...all I know there are always VERY young people there.

Best thing about that place...there are always chicks dancing on the bar. The other week there was a chick with this little skirt on, and a thong  :D

I liked it.

Rochester bouncers seem to be pretty adept at picking out fakes as well. You'll have to pick and choose wisely if you're not 21. Some of the bars are equiped with scanners to validate ID's.

This is mainly cause there are 3 colleges in this city and nothign to do :) ok so there are somethings to do...but mainly go drinking...either way. Oh yeah, and for people worrying about it being crowded, University of Rochester is having their last final (which almost no one sticks around for, there are about 2 weeks worth of finals) is the sunday after the show (which yours truely is privilaged enough to have a final on). However the number of classes that have finals that day is like 4, so no one should be around.

Mmm...hard to say. I think that early in the evening on Saturday, potentially there'd be a good chance, because they wouldn't have a bouncer at the door. They'd just be ID'ing at the bar upstairs (there's one upstairs that's always open, and one downstairs that they open when it gets mobbed).

It's still early enough where I can scout around and find the best joints. Bring a bar enough money, and they don't usually care too much what the ages are. :)

shep@nancies
10-09-2003, 09:25 AM
And worst case scenario, we drink over at the hotel, and then go to the bars and have the underage folks be "our designated drivers."

Or we just all end up at Dino and slam beers. I have no problem with getting underage folk drinks, as long as they ain't driving. :)

Christ, that joint has been:

- Fenlon's
- Rhythm (when it was the piano and fondue joint)
- Lloyd's

Never really got into it. Alexander Street Pub's okay; Old Toad is cool but the seating's weird in there -- I'm not sure how that'd go over.

yea, its really small. Smallest place I have seen a DMB show. Right now, from what I've heard/seen, the best two spots for hotels are either the Crowne Plaza on State Street (running roughly $65 a night) or the Days Inn on East Avenue (farther from BCA, but close to bars) -- $85 for two people a night.

Your safest bet (this is just my opinion) is to not look for joints that are RIGHT near Blue Cross, but to get away from there. Head back over to Alexander, where it might not be too bad given the time (midnight). If it's snowing, even better.

It's too bad the Metro closed (attached to the Days Inn) because that shit would have been AWESOME. We could have easily taken THAT over.

I hear you, I know it is hard for people to vote on shows they have not been to. I think there is an inherent pride in the shows you goto, like they are your children. There is no way someone else children can be as unique or special as yours. I think some of the shows I have been to have been unique but I can only compare them to the other shows I have been to. Even listening to a show doesnt give you the visual of the energy going on.

It's some funny stuff.

I saw them at Water Street back in the days of "Juke Joint Jezebel" and it was really good...except for the girl they had dancing center stage in the back. There was ABSOLUTELY no point to her, and she couldn't dance very well.

But what a great show otherwise. Old KMFDM is some good stuff. I haven't heard anything since they becamse "MDFMK."

Nathaniels is pretty tiny inside, it doesn't take many people for it to fill up to the point where you can't move. I'd recommend heading back to the Alexander St./ Monroe Ave / Park Ave. area. Thats what I will be doing (of course I live on Park so I'm biased). There are some decent High Falls bars not far from BCA - Jimmy Mac's and now at the new High Falls Live McFaddens. Tiki Bobs, is eh...gonna be a lot of young high school kids there which is annoying, i never go there anymore. There are plenty of bars in the alexander/park/monre area so that if one sucks you can easily find another place. I personally like Karma/Barfly. A Street Pub is decent too. Pearl is a really upscale place that is worth at least checking out if you feel like chilling out for a relaxed drink (they have cool bathrooms w/ free jolly ranchers too;) ). Further down the street on Park Ave. is Preps & the Park Bench - both pretty cool.

Anyway, check out: http://www.rochesterdrinks.com for info on rochester bars. A friend of mine & I run it and are in the initial states of marketing it and gaining users. I think its a pretty good resource for finding info on rochester nightlife.

and as for food after. Though Tahous is good, I'd go with getting plates at Mark's Texas Hots on Monroe. Its not far from the Alexander St. Bars. Its actually right near 2 other decent bars, Acme & the Sports Page. I much prefer their plate to the more famous Tahous plate.

Also right near there is Sal's Pizzeria. Awsome pizza and they stay open till 4 am.

that is a cool place to live, especially in the summer. Nothing like being walking distance to bars. I am not sure if any bars will be running specials the night of the show. We will have to see what radio stations start pushing the show, and what bars they are affiliated with.

Well, that's why I'm thinking it could be a case of me walking down there on an off-night and seeing who I can talk to.

If any radio stations push the show, it'll be the Zone or PXY. Those are basically the only two who play DMB in any form since WMAX changed format years ago.

I remember all the stations being DMB supporters whenever they come around. Ill hear a DMB song sandwiched between Enter Sandman and Stairway to Heaven on CMF. It is kind of funny. The band doesnt get too much radio play here, they don't really fit into any of the stations.

WMAX was some good shit -- they'd have live artist interviews (I remember one with the Barenaked Ladies where they were basically ripping on Jennifer V, who's usually affiliated with WBER). They'd also play stuff like Big Head Todd and the Monsters, Agents of Good Roots, Blues Traveler -- definitely the more popular "college bands" of the time.

Stupid stupid maneuver on their part to change formats. A station that played all that stuff around this area would do incredibly well, especially if they picked up more of the Buffalo and Ithaca bands. Eh, such is life.

I like 90.5 the best out of all of them, independent radio is the best way to go. No one telling them how many times they have to play songs. When they were giving away tickets to the CP show I was listening for hours:eek: I could almost predict 100% what song was coming next.

There's a reason for that -- playlists. WBER'S got em, and it's all computer-generated. (I used to dj there years back.)

90.5 isn't really independent radio, though it touts itself as that pretty heavily. When the Nerve came to town, Joey and co. got all nutty over it, and that's when you'd hear "The Only Station That Matters" over and over again. Some of us would be like, "Uh, they're corporate and we're non-commercial. WHY are they competition?" and get no straight answer. It was silliness.

I'd get into more of the bullshit that gets pulled at that station, but I digress for now. There is definitely no love lost.

Yeah, they divvy shit up into Heavy, Medium and WOW rotation (WOW as in "Wow, I haven't heard this in ages").

So the latest Deftones track would be Heavy, for example -- something less popular would be Medium (and they'd wait for more input before shifting it to Medium) and then WOW would be something like "Rules and Regulations" by Public Image Ltd.

Yeah, there's a few of us who are going to drink elsewhere earlier on, then park across from Blue Cross around 5-5:30 and hit up the Dinosaur for drinks. Yes, it gets extremely packed -- so if you really want seats, you'll want to get there early.
