did we ever find out why saunders wanted chappelle dead? was it just because ryan was good at his job and he might catch saunders?
Ok I'm pretty sure i know why. Remember how Jack asked Chapelle if he wanted to say bye to anyone and Chapelle said he didn't really have anyone close to him? Ok, so Saunders knowing this, and knowing that Tony was second in command, wanted to get Chapelle out of the way (because he had no means of getting to him through loved ones) to get Tony in charge, because he knew he could get at Tony through his wife. If I'm right, the subtelty and depth of this show is amazing.

Um, i doubt it's that simple. Becuase alot of people working at CTU were getting close... why pick out Chapelle? I dunno I like my theory more.

Chapelle (at first) was specifically working on the money trail on his own. Only later did he bring others in to help him out. So, I think the answer is the money trail. Remember, Saunders even discussed it with his "evil cohort computer guy." The computer guy told Saunders they were getting close via the money trail.
However.....I do like your theory. That would have made an interesting "Insider" question.

he was definitely not thinking about getting chapelle out of the way to get to tony.
saunders wanted to show the president that he had to do what he asked. since chapelles name came up following the money trail really tight, saunders told palmer to have him killed.
go watch it again. you'll see.

I think you are right. If the whole reason for getting Chapelle outta the way is for the money trail, that is a stupid reason, because the rest of CTU could just pick up where Chapelle left off. I think Saunders had another motive for getting him out, and to get to tony's wife fits. Think about how well Saunders had it planned out to capture Michelle. He had been planning that for a few hours at least, so it makes sense. No one should just believe its that simple.

Gotta get this topped, but with good cause.
I was watching Seinfeld today (shrinkage), and the doctor that tells Elaine she's breathtaking looked familiar, so I looked him up.
Sure enough, it's Richard Burgi, the same guy that played Kevin Carroll (the fake Alan York) in season one.

finally got around to watching season 1 [gary's copy]. i've watched the first 3 episodes.
obviously i'm a little behind, but let's see:
curious to see why the punk who broke her friend's arm was told to get the baur daughter- but that will make for some amazing drama no doubt.
quite the way to get a fingerprint
he had no choice but to suspect nina. maybe should have gotten the information before he slammed her around and got in her face [and learned that her computer was accessed while they were gone]- can't say as i would have done any different.
oh and, the girl who had the motorbike and asked for an extra mil- she deserved to die. tragic.
so far: :thumbsup :thumbsup I can't imagine watching this week by week and having to wait. very high anticipation level. very cool that it is in real time.

im a big fan and was actually disappointed in the finale. no twist; no "this finale delivers" like the commercials had been saying. there was not one hint of suspense or surprise in the whole episode in my opinion. and no, palmer resigning doesn't count as a big twist.
good season, mediocre finale, season 1 is still by far the best.

I'm rewatching S1 (and maybe S2) with Ben. Watching them continuously is definately a LOT better than waiting a week for each one. Anybody mention that Leslie Hope (Terri Bauer) is going to be in Meltdown (http://www.fxnetworks.com/shows/originals/meltdown/) on FX tonight at 8pm ET???
From the FX/Meltdown bio for her...
Hope won acclaim for her role on the first season of FOX's groundbreaking drama 24. Each episode told a story that took place in a single day, each of the 24 episodes covering one hour and playing out in real time. Her death in the final episode prompted a fan outcry and media debate on her character's fate.

I think the debate was all about whether or not they should have ended the season in such a manner.
Yeah. Pretty daring way to close the first season of a new series.
In my opinion, an untouched and unprecedented way to end a season. They filmed three endings for the finale, and didn't choose to air that one until the last possible moment, I believe.

There really wasn't any way they could have ended the first season with a mega-happy ending. It seemed to go against the grain of the entire season.

As for the Season 3 DVD's it would seem that the NTSC release has now been pushed back to December 14th, 2004 despite having an August 9th PAL release slated for the UK.
Hmmm! Who knows - I'll believe the date when

just finished s1e18 [jack was meeting the guy to deliver the money, teri has her 'selective amnesia' and has just arrived at the bauer house w/ her doctor 'friend']- great stuff. a few things:
amnesia- well i gotta say whoever wrote the script lost a few points with me when teri awoke with her amnesia. i see that as a cop out to just create more story. blah blah blah, thanks for wasting my time.
kim- amazing that she goes to the guy's house. how pathetic. should have let tony help you when you had the chance.
palmer's wife- when she confessed to destroying the tape, i would have struck her, and i don't even condone hitting women. amazing.
the computer girl at ctu- the one that killed herself, that blew. what a cop out. suck it up- take responsibility for your actions.
that's enough for now- maybe i'll go back and read through the thread and check you guys' comments on these too.
oh yeah... my windows logon and logoff sound is now the 24 clock ticking [as it does at the very end and commercials]

finished season 1 Saturday night. the computer girl at ctu- the one that killed herself, that blew. what a cop out. suck it up- take responsibility for your actions. i retract this statement.
never saw the nina thing coming-ever. that fucking bitch. if jack had known nina had just killed his wife, he would have shot her in the face when he had the chance.
by the way- for anyone who bought season 1 on dvd, they did film an alternate ending where teri lives [the version that aired was as originally planned] but i agree with the director commentary, having teri die just fits with the rest of jack's day.

It's real hard too. Another friend of mine is about 5 or 6 episodes into the 3rd season now. She was reading TV Guide a few weeks ago and they had a little article about 24 in it, going over who died and how in the third season. She read it and was crushed. :(

New Faces for 24 Season Four
Source: Variety Monday, July 19, 2004
You'll be seeing lots of new faces on 24 next season, and a familiar face from 24 on CSI.
Reiko Aylesworth, who played Michelle on 24 for the past two seasons, is set to join the original CSI, as a lab-based detective, says Variety. Aylesworth's casting is unrelated to George Eads and Jorja Fox being let go from the show.
As for 24, virtually none of the cast, save Kiefer Sutherland, will return as regulars for season four, which is set to begin airing on Fox in January. That means Dennis Haysbert's David Palmer character will no longer be president of the United States. Instead, when the action resumes, Sen. John Keeler -- last seen trying to blackmail Palmer -- will be the new president.
Geoff Pierson, who played Keeler in multiple episodes last season, will reprise his role for season four. It'll be a recurring part, however. The trade also revealed that Sutherland's Jack Bauer will no longer work for CTU.

Just finished up Season 1 with friends who had just seen season 3. Man, it gets my blood boiling all over again. Such amazing shit Season 1 was, remembering all those moments during its original airing when my friends and I would jump through the ceiling during some moments.
-one of my fave lines "DAMN YOU SHERRI IF THAT CHILD DIES!!" - The way Palmer blows up on Sherri the last 2 hours is phenomenal stuff.
-Oh and Jack's rampage in the final hour, classic stuff.
-And...well, just EVERYTHING. All 3 are terrific, but Season 1 IMO is still above the rest.
That's too bad about the season 4 cast. I can't believe there even will be a season 4. But that means no Tony? I've had enough of Kim (even though I could look at her all day). Chase was unnecessary. The cast from Season 2 to 3 was vastly different save Jack, Tony, Palmer,Sherri, Chappelle, some Nina. Losing Dennis Haysbert is big, I thought his character was great. The interaction between Jack and Palmer was always a critical thing about the show. But losing Tony too, although he comes across as a pain, would be a big loss to. Either way this season should be very interesting to say the least. The first 3 have all been spell-binding, hopefully they all can keep it together. I'd really hate to see 24 go out on a bad, bad note. But no matter what it is like, I will be there for all 24 episodes.

Executive producer Joel Surnow confirmed at FOX's session of the TCA's summer press tour that aside from Kiefer Sutherland, virtually the entire cast will not return for its fourth season in January 2005. The move means Dennis Haysbert, James Badge Dale, Elisha Cuthbert, Carlos Bernard and the rest of the cast won't likely make more than a few, if any, appearances as part of the new season. As for specifics (highlight to read), only Geoff Pierson, who played Palmer's Republican rival John Keeler, has been confirmed as returning. He'll take over as the President in the series' universe. In addition, Surnow also revealed Sutherland's Jack Bauer will no longer be working for CTU.
I know this has been said but just some more info as to who else will not return. This is from the futon critic.

Kiefer leaves hat on
By AP
KIEFER SUTHERLAND stunned a group of small-town New Zealand women by peeling off his socks and shirt during an impromptu strip routine at a club, local media reported. The Canadian actor slipped out of his socks and whipped off his shirt, waving it above his head to the Tom Jones hit You Can Leave Your Hat On, the New Zealand Herald newspaper said.
The stripping star was then ushered off the stage, it said. The incident occurred last week in the North Island community of Raetihi, 300 km north of the capital, Wellington, but was not reported until Wednesday.
Sutherland, star of the hit U.S. drama 24, is filming the movie River Queen nearby. The movie tells the story of an Irish immigrant in New Zealand during the 18th-century wars between indigenous Maori and colonial settlers.

:**: 24 UPDATE :**:
just a couple tidbits-some good-some bad:
info on season 4:
Dennis Haysbert's David Palmer character will no longer be president of the United States. Instead, when the action resumes, Sen. John Keeler -- last seen trying to blackmail Palmer -- will be the new president. Geoff Pierson, who played Keeler in multiple episodes last season, will reprise his role for season four. It'll be a recurring part, however.
Sutherland's Jack Bauer will no longer work for CTU". Meanwhile 'Regiment' drops in a few more details about what some of the jettisoned members are getting up to otherwise:
"Everyone has been shown the door, aside from Kiefer. Elisha Cuthbert was asked to stay on, but she balked - having just signed a couple of lucrative movie deals. Elisha Cuthbert is in talks for a certain superhero film - sans the blonde - which just had a change of director. Reiko Aylesworth has joined the cast of "CSI in a recurring role next season. Carlos Bernhard (Tony) has also been keeping pretty busy and he himself has a couple of projects to go on with - including things he's developing, and Joel Surnow's doing a 24 feature DTV.
They're going to be adding some big name co-stars to the mix though I hear. This is pretty much considered to be the final season.
:( :(
read that last sentence again
:( :(
somewhat happier news...kinda:
the season 3 dvd will be released in the winter unlike past seasons when it was released in the fall to coincide with the next season premiere. here's the coverart:

dobyblue
07-31-2004, 11:49 PM
I'm not sure how Season 3 being released 3 months later than normal is good news, especially since it's coming out in PAL in the UK this month - August 9th. Why we gotta wait? I'm sure the NTSC release will be better though? Ha ha - it's like another wipEout fusion. (incase you don't get that reference they almost didn't release wipEout fusion for the NTSC PlayStation2 which would have been criminal, it's the best racing game ever)
I am sure making money off syndication is a tempting idea but I would never watch it. The only reason I suffer watching it on TV is because I couldn't possibly wait for the DVD and miss all the excitement of having excellent people (that's the rest of you by the way) to discuss each episode with afterwards. Other than that being able to watch in Anamorphic Widescreen with Dolby Digital 5.1? Heaven!
Who can forget what we all had to say after Paul Schultze's incredible last episode.
Season 3 6am-7am will always be an episode that leaves me in tears.

You probably don't think that I can force this towel down your throat. But trust me, I can. All the way. Except I'd hold onto this one little bit at the end. When your stomach starts to digest it, I pull it out. Taking your stomach lining with it. For most people it would take about a week to die. It's very painful.

Watch the first season's episode compared to the second season's first episode. What a difference. Look at all your favourite episodes of 24 and I'll guarantee you Jon is more than likely the director. Last two hours of season 2? Awesome.

I am posting to proudly say that I now have one of my apartment-mates hooked on S1. he is plowing through it tonight- on episode 5 already.
it's tough to keep my mouth shut- knowing nina is a dirty fucking bitch.

i'm on season 2, episode 6 i think. i haven't watched one since this summer- so i think i'm going to start s2 over again. i need to watch it, and get s3 from gary so i can be ready for s4 in jan.
and matt, January is 3 months away now :p
I cannot wait.
by the way- watching s1 again only makes me appreciate it that much more. i never even thought about the fact that on every intro, jack says 'and the people i'm working with may be involved in both' and it shows nina. i guess jack trusts nina, so the viewer does too.

what's everyone's fave episode? you can do from all 3 seasons if you want to...my absolute fave is from S1, when Jack has that guy in the back of the limo, and threatens him with that rag. Best episode, imo.

if you are going to do fav episodes- please pre-empt your post with a 'could contain spoilers' then several spaces. i'd like to be able to post in this thread, but if no one is willing to comply then i can stay out.

I'm cool with doing favourite episodes but I know Mark and Ben are catching up so maybe in a couple weeks. I'd need that long to think about it anyway :lol there's so many good moments to choose from.

Have you ever heard about the Russian gulag? A string of prisons in Northern Siberia. The Russians didnt have a lot of high-tech equipment out there, so they kind of had to make do with what was around. Sort of like what Im doing right now. You probably dont think that I can force this towel down your throat. But trust me I can..alllll the way. Except I'd hold onto this one little bit at the end. When your stomach starts to digest it, I pull it out......taking your stomach lining with it. For most people it takes about a week to die. Its very painful.

Just thought I'd throw out a random 24 got fucked for me story...I was watching s1 on dvd when s2 was on tv and I was like 2 episodes away from the end and one day I'm driving in my car and a commercial comes on and before I can switch stations I hear Jack''s voice and he basically states the finale of season 1. I think I almost crashed my car...
So ya, be careful people who aren't caught up!

finished s2e14 [found the bomb, kim is free, mrs. palmer has been dismissed]
kinda curious as to how they're going to stretch this for another 10 hours- we shall see.
by the way- anyone notice how jack doesn't miss a shot in s2:
-got both shots right next to nina's head during interogation
-shot the guy on the stairs at the little store where nina went in under cover
-shot the tire out on the plane when it was trying to fly away
-shot the pilot in the plane
-shot the arm of the terrorist sister
jack is a pro.
(the only time he needed more was to take down the special ops guys with an assault rifle after the plane crash, and he was shooting to kill and protect nina)

That's the episode where Kim and Jack have that whole "good-bye" scene right?
I'm not gonna lie that actually made me tear up. And I was watching with my exgirlfriend to boot.

there are some definite, emotionally compelling scenes in this show.

jack's being tortured
youceff is down and out
the red necks have the chip and kate
the president's aid [brunette] was kept quiet [nearly] killed
the VP is overthrowing the presidency
chapelle is clamping down at ctu
holy fucking shit there was no relief there.
I made it to jack getting the chip, and the president has just walked in the conference room. amazing stuff.
[by the way, if i were jack, fuck tying those red necks up- put a bullet in them and get the damn chip to ctu]
mike used to have my respect, but he threw it all away when he locked up the woman, and then closed her hand when she was trying to ID him. wow that made me mad.
this show evokes so many feelings- incredible.
we almost stayed up and watched the last 4 episodes, but they'll have to wait until tomorrow. i know you all care :p
