Fox to Offer Cell Phone Version of '24' TV Show

Wed Nov 10, 7:37 PM ET

Add to My Yahoo! Entertainment - Reuters TV

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Fox Entertainment Group Inc. will bring a spinoff of its hit television series "24" to cell phones next year in a tie-up with mobile phone carrier Vodafone Group Plc, Fox said on Wednesday.

Vodafone will distribute "24: Conspiracy," a series of 24 minute-long episodes, in up to 23 countries, beginning Jan. 30 in Britain on Vodafone's new 3G advanced wireless network.

The launch will be timed to the debut of the fourth season of "24." The cell-phone series has different characters working in a similar world, and focuses on a CIA (news - web sites) counter-terrorist unit devoted to preventing attacks on U.S. soil.

Fox said plans were under way to distribute "24: Conspiracy" in the United States through Verizon Wireless next year.

The deal was announced as part of the launch of Vodafone's 3G services, which promise CD-quality sound, wireless streaming of audio and video and video calling.

Speaking of Reiko, here's an interesting tidbit.

Reiko auditioned for the role of Nina Myers on "24" (2001), but lost out to Sarah Clarke. Reiko was remembered for the show's second season and was cast as Michelle Dessler.

Episode 2 airs in it's new time period Monday, Jan.10th 9.00p/8.00c

Okay so if the first episode is 2 hours then surely they will not be doing it commercial free. I would be well impressed if they did.
Also Episode 2 is actually hour #3? That gets a little confusing for the way they label the episodes up until now.
ie Ep2.16 (Season 2 hour 16)

EDIT - I notice they already have the first few episodes posted on imdb.com and they keep the same nunmbering. Episode 4.02 is hour 2. So will they be reshowing the second half of Sunday night's opener again on Monday or is it just a boo-boo.

I also notice the actress that plays Chloe is currently credited with being in 28 episodes. She definitely did not appear until Season 3 though as faar as my memory serves me, yet imdb only shows up to Ep 04.02 which would suggest according to them she was in 2 episodes of Season 2?

I was thinking about one cool aspect of this show: Jack gets so busy during the 24 hours that he doesn't have time to shower or shave, therefore he always grows the tough scruffy looking stubble by the end of the 24 hrs - making him look like that much more of a badass.

Oh, and, s3 will be wrapped and ready for this guy come Christmas morning.

Just watched the first 10 episodes of Season 3. Great DVD!! I actually find Chloe's character mush more palatable the second time around.
Looking forward to next week-end to try and finish it off.
Also I was watching it with someone who hadn't seen Season 3 and the chapter menu of the 3rd disc has Nina on it - which is really bloody stupid as the whole point of leaving her off the Guest Starring credits at the start of the episode was to heighten the surprise when she appears.
My friend asked me "what is she doing on the screen" and I quickly responded "Oh they show characters from all throughout the 3 series on these chapter menus"
It worked, but I still think it was a poor idea. She should have been on the 4th discs' menu don't you think?
Great job on the 5.1 mix. I love Sean Callerey's score - especially the tension at the end of each episode. I think on this one they've made the split screen shots sound even better that the 5.1 job on Season 2.
Can't wait to get to all the extras as well.

Ben F.
12-13-2004, 04:24 PM
Yeah that was one of the big drawbacks of watching a season for the first time from the DVDs. The jacket and disc labels show characters (S2 gives away Sherry's return) and the menu for each episode gave a snapshot from a scene in that episode (like when Nina holds Jack at gunpoint).

I realize that they consider buying the dvd the action of an avid fan who watched it on television when it aired, but it does spoil it for any latecomer. If it were up to me, I'd do my best to keep it as discrete as possible.

Looks sweet - some stuff from every season.
I would note that this is a score however and not a soundtrack. You'd think the record label would know the difference. I think if this was a soundtrack it would have songs by Perry Ferrell and others.

Matt

Season 2 had a couple things that could have been really cool, that they dropped the ball on. "The whisper" was one of those things. I'm unsure if the writers ever planned on going anywhere with it, but Keifer actually said something along the lines of, "Why did you marry Xander when you could be with me?" to Sarah (Clarke). For those who don't know, Sarah Clarke (Nina) married Xander Berkeley (Mason) in real life. So Keifer was instructed to say something that would really shock Sarah, so he said that, and there you get Nina's reaction for the show. :)

The other thing that they dropped the ball on was the whole Max/Trepkos/Mandy "Plan B starts today" angle. I was super excited about that, and with the camera spiraling up on Palmer at the end of S2, I thought it was right up there w/ S1's ending in terms of unprecedented on television. I just wish S3 didn't drop it like it did.

Watched some of the extras last night, they were great. The mini documentaries of the prison riot, the helicopter chase and the fighter jets were very cool. I really liked the mini doc of the virus, what was real, what was fabricated.

And the mini episode between S3 and S4 was great, definitely not for TV. :lol I was shocked hearing that out of Jack's mouth, though with the kind of days he has, you'd think he'd drop a lot more of them.
That was AWESOME. My jaw dropped at that scene - it was an extremely cool bit, though.

The thing about this show that gets to me so extremely is its loyalty to its roots. They never once forgot about Teri and the effect her death had on Jack. "For once, Jack Bauer was happy..." [sic] "Then Day 4 happened."

Wow.

The first episode that I caught any part of was right after Jack's kidnapped waitress got away and he was hiding under cars to escape the police. I think the first full episode I ever saw was either the one where the CTU sniper took out the bag man for the Drazen's, or the following one, where they explore Saugus and 26GG on the grid. That was an amazing ep. I was hooked, watched the season to completion, and then got the S1 DVD's for my birthday, and watched them straight through w/ my friends at college leading up to the S2 premier.

There isn't anything else like it on TV. People say they have shows they love, but they never talk about them like you'll hear a 24 fan talk about 24. It's just in a whole new league.

I don't think Milo ever came back. He was an interesting character.

My friends borrowed my s3 DVDs and they're through 4 discs already. Even though I've seen them all already, some parts still get my heart going like I'm watching them for the first time.

I mentioned before my stepfather's hooked now, but he's a little annoying with it. One of my biggest pet peeves with him is that he calls things by the wrong name. Norton to him is "Nortons", when we go to Best Buy, he says we're going to "Best Buys". I asked him how far along he is in the first season, and he said, "I've only been able to watch 2 episodes of '24 Hours.'" I wanted to do the towel trick on him. :BANG

I hate when people do that. Calling things by the worng name.

My mom also when I was watching it with her would just blurt out stuff. Like in Season 1 when the Palmers are sitting down eating dinner and Nicole has her panic attack my mom yelled out "Poison!!!" and I was like NO!

I just watched it and now I'm pretty excited about the upcoming season. Looks as good as it always does :D

It actually says it's the first 24 minutes but it is about 27. I'm loving my subscription to entertainment weekly this year. This was a great treat, as was getting the whole first episode of House on DVD a week and a half before it aired (I don't think I would have ever watched that show if they hadn't done that, and it's one of the few shows I watch on TV theses days).

The one thing about 24 that I love is the presense the entire show has. The combination of the way it's filmed and the music and sounds make it seem like its moving at a different speed than other shows, even when nothings happening.

Hey I have some questions about 24... I've never seen it nor know what its about.

I see it on here all the time and I've never even heard of it outside of AM.org. So... what is it? I think I know that its a show that takes place in 24 hours, each episode being one hour of it?

Its not reality TV is it?

Is it like a James Bond kind of show or what?

Can I start watching it starting with the new season and still understand it?

What was last season about?

Thanks, and I hope someone takes the time to answer some of my questions, because I have no clue what all the hype is about.

jack bauer takes bond by the nuts and feeds him into a wood chipper, feet first, slowly, so that they can talk while he dies.

let's not dis Bond here. 007 is the man. He's been the man in 18 movies. Bauer is awesome. But, he's gotta have a lot more insane days until you can compare him to Bond.

Jack doesn't get the advantage of knock out darts in his wristwatch. He has to work totally on instinct and willpower.

Jack Bauer kicks Bond's ass.

So, its on Mondays now?? Damn, Vegas comes on mondays, I hope its not on at the same time. But yeah, 24 is the greatest show on television, Jack is the shit. Also is Kim going to be on this season, I read she might not, Im only asking cause she is hot but her character is very boring and stupid(Not as much as last season though).

Why wasn't he the man in the other 2 movies? There have been 20 Bond movies from the Albert R. Broccoli camp. There are 22 altogether if you count Never Say Never Again and Casino Royale, which I don't.

I am so psyched that we are getting the first FOUR hours of Season 4 all within a 26 hour period.
Hours 1-2 on Sunday 9th and hours 3-4 on Monday 10th. That more than makes up for the terrible pauses last seaon thanks to American "after this commercial break" Bollocks Idol.

People have always told me that I should watch this show, but I always missed the season premeire, and didn't want to jump in mid season. If I start watching with this season's premeire, will I be lost, or does the show kind of explain itself for new viewers? Also, do video stores rent the first few seasons on DVD, or do you have to buy them?

rent them, they are awesome. You could probably start a season and not be too lost, but some explanations from the fine folks in this thread should fill in the gaps for you

I ranted a little earlier about Nina being on the main episode menu of Disc 2 or 3 in Season 3.
Now I'm going to rant a little more. Yesterday we watched from Episode 10 till the end of Episode 19. 5 hours left! So I put in Disc 5 and look at the picture on the episode of this disc - Chappelle with a fucking gun to his head?!?
Now I do feel that S3.18 is the most disturbing of all the episodes throughout all three seasons so far but I'm watching it with someone who hasn't seen S3 yet and that's two discs that any twit should have said "um...isn't it kind of stupid to put Nina in the picture of that disc before you've hit the episode where *surprise* she resurfaces?" I mean that's pretty bloody logical to me. She survives right through to disc 4 or 5 anyway so she could have been on the next disc's chapter menu. Having Chappelle there is really stupid. You see the end of episode 17 where Saunders says he wants Chappelle's dead body delivered to the train yard within the hour and of course with that chapter menu you know that it gets as far at least as Ryan getting a gun to his head.
Really dissappointed with that and I'm wondering did this not bother anyone else?
I really am enjoying Chloe's character so much more in this re-watch than I did during the original watch. Also I have to say that around 6:40pm when Chase is leading the strike team into the building that only houses a node whilst Chappelle waits anxiously with Jack - the music in that scene is brilliant.
Can't wait to get to the S3>S4 leading episode in the special features. It sounds sooo good from what you guys have said.
