Well, he had ample time to kill that guy before Jack and Tony arrived. He could have shot him in the back when he took the pilot hostage on the landing pad.
he only shot him because he was captured. my guess is that the sniper was on the roof the whole time, just in case something happened

Based on the map of the reactors that the terrorists still control, you and Crumbo should really consider evacuating soon.

good point, im guessing to stay away from the threats
i am assuming he was on regular business until the threat emerged. and they are keeping him up there for safety reasons.
during 9/11, didn't they put bush in the air to keep him safe?

after air traffic was suspended
it wouldn't have been very safe in the air until that happened
think about it

Unless, he has 2 F-16's flying along beside him. which I think always escort air force one in any situation.

Re: New civil-service rules
I know you're all very busy at the moment, but I wanted to let you know about some important changes here at CTU. As you may know, our parent agency, the Department of Homeland Security, will be the first in the federal government to implement a sweeping new personnel system. As announced in Washington by the Bush administration on Jan. 26, the new rules will overhaul the way 110,000 civil-service employees are paid, promoted, deployed and disciplined.
How will these new rules affect CTU? Let me offer a preview:
• Pay and pay raises. Under new guidelines, and because of the unpredictability of our jobs, the biweekly pay period has been scrapped. CTU employees will now be paid in increments of seconds. Wages will be direct-deposited to employee bank accounts every quarter-hour. Merit-pay opportunities will be reevaluated at the top of each hour, depending on your job performance in the preceding hour.
• Hiring practices. As always, CTU is looking for individuals dedicated to our core mission: thwarting extremely complicated terrorist conspiracies masterminded by foreign nationals with heavy accents. Our hiring policies will not change. As always, our primary consideration for employment at CTU is a prior record of conflict/romantic involvement with senior CTU officers. We will continue to hire individuals to perform a variety of ill-defined jobs, with overlapping responsibilities designed to maximize interpersonal friction.
We understand that many candidates have complicated personal lives that will frequently interfere with their work. This is acceptable if the candidate a) is willing to work a 24-hour shift without notice or complaint; b) harbors damaging information about other CTU employees that can be used as leverage in personnel disputes; and c) does not mind occasionally being taken hostage.
• Discipline hearings/appeals: Disciplinary actions will continue mostly as they have in the past -- swift, secretive, and involving some kind of employee-on-employee torture -- in the auxiliary conference room next to the snack machines. Employee-directed executions of senior supervisory officers, as occurred last year, will continue to be permitted under certain circumstances. Please check with me for details.
• Vehicle use: On the whole, we've done a lot better this year in terms of the upkeep and reliability of CTU's fleet of sedans, SUVs, motorcycles and aircraft. But it seems that every year we get a one- or two-day period in which many of our vehicles are wrecked, blown up or otherwise compromised. On days when our workload seems particularly intense (today, for example), I would ask employees to be especially vigilant about driver safety, not leaving cars unlocked, and avoiding, if possible, the transportation of injured or deceased (or otherwise bleeding) co-workers. Also, please avoid using your CTU vehicle as a shield during shootouts. Body work and windshield-repair costs have soared, with a negative long-term effect on our department-wide car insurance rates.
• Internal security. As you all know, the work we do here at CTU is vital to national security and hence top-secret. However, various individuals, such as friends of CTU employees, children, former love interests and former CTU operatives who now work elsewhere (e.g., that glory hog Jack Bauer), will be permitted to wander unescorted throughout our facilities.
Finally, some good news: The command structure at CTU will not be affected by the new regulations. As in the past, CTU employees in this office will be able to completely bypass and disregard our supervisors at Division with impunity. And all of us will continue to have the private cell number of the president of the United States, so we can get him on the phone whenever it suits us.
I hope these guidelines are clear. If you have questions or complaints, please direct them to your representatives at the International Brotherhood of Counter-Terrorism Workers. Your shop steward is Chloe O'Brian.
Sincerely,
Erin
P.S.: I'd like to remind everyone that next Friday is Hawaiian Shirt Day. It will be compulsory to wear a Hawaiian shirt and jeans -- crisis permitting, of course.

Air Force One is shielded against radiation, and they have mid air refueling capabilities, so theoretically they could stay in the air for days on end if necessary, which would most likely be the case in a nuclear situation.

I'm thinking that maybe the sniper would have only had time to kill Jack or Tony.
Judging by his actions, his objective was the man he shot.
It is clear that whoever is running the operation is extremely well organized and plans for the worst (ironically, except in the case of the Araz family).
Debbie stumbles into the plot, she is eliminated.
Behrooz doesn't really do anything wrong, but suspicion is enough to have him killed.
Sarah at CTU was to die should she try and escape.
Man at helicopter pad was to die should his departure fail (He was not originally scheduled to be shot if take-off had gone according to plan).

Not bad. It's just hard to make out definition on Bauer. Looks like he's in a black latex suit. The attachment is too dark.

Not bad. It's just hard to make out definition on Bauer. That's the idea. True fans know it's him infiltrating the terrorist bunker, it's kind of a james bond silhouette thing.
And yeah, the attachment is from the scene where he and the field agent who got plugged are riding in the car. The full size has some good shadows going on- but 50x50 just makes it dark. I have a feeling if I try to lighten it with photoshop it will get too big.

Current one is kinda hard to see the detail, plus it looks MI2'esque
The face is cool if it was lighter.

You guys are funny. I went with the full body so you could get the pose, and the detail was intentionally low. It is designed to have an MI2 feel/silhouette. I think it's great that my idea is coming off just as it was intended, yet somehow you guys see it as a negative thing. :)

OK guys we need some help, my wife (nursejo) and I have become obsessed with 24 in the past two weeks. We have got season 1 and season 2 off of NETFLIX (great BTW) and watched them both in a little under 2 weeks. We cannot get enough! We start season 3 tonight and will be done by next week. So heres are dilemma. What do I do about season 4. Any suggestions? We do have 1:00-2:00 and 2:00-3:00 already waiting for us TIVOed. How many episdoes did we miss? Does anyone tape them weekly? Anyways, guys thanks for all the help in advance.

I wonder if the writers will incorporate this N. Korea thing into the script down the road this season. I've heard they write the shows on the spur of the minute and that they change with current events. Maybe this is false.

For seasons 1-3, they wrote the show in thirds. Actually I believe in S1 it was in halves. This season was completely written in advance to make for a more cohesive script. I believe I read that they had shot up to E15 by the time S4E1 premiered.
The cool thing about the first season was that originally FOX had signed on for 12 (or 13) episodes. So in case it didn't do well, they had to have a way to end the season. Which is where Gaines would have been the final bad guy, and the Drazens would never have been brought in around then. What a phenominal season. I've considered breaking it back out to hold myself over in between eps. this year.

Yea if you are familiar with torrents you can just download them. Try this link here:

This site has all the episodes. Be sure to download the HDTV-LOL versions as these are high def transfers and in wide screen (better quality). If you have any other questions about torrents just ask here I'm sure someone would be happy to help you out.

so......we had a debate that the guy sniped getting out of the chopper was/was not the guy that Marianne called. Well....I was wrong.
BUT.......either I am completely confused.....or I'm reading the episode descriptions from Fox's website incorrectly....
Because the way it reads......the man Audrey recognized in the bunker IS NOT the guy that got sniped getting out of the chopper.
Let's piece this together.... (all from Fox's website)
11:45am - Audrey recognized a man in the bunker after the gas incident named "Gelfand"
12:59pm Marianne dials "a man" from a secure cell phone. (This is when we find out she's the mole)
1:08pm Marianne calls her contact, named "Powell" from the back room. (when she claimed she was rebooting a hub for Edgar....and Sarah caught her.
2:09pm Marianne sneaks into the restroom and phones Powell.
2:43pm Marcy calls Jack with the identification of Henry Powell who Audrey identified from security tapes
2:58pm Henry Powell is sniped getting out of the chopper.
so the guy Audrey recognized.....that Fox says is "Gelfand".....turned out to be Henry Powell???????
what's the deal?

Commercial spoiler for S4 E9 below
They showed Driscoll in CTU saying, "Senator we have a meltdown".
That is exactly the kind of thing I don't want to know. Sure you might say it's inevitable that a meltdown would occur (or obvious since Edgar was unable to stop 6 plants), but I still didn't want to know before-hand.

hey all,
i just have a quick Q. i just started getting into 24 this season, ive seen all episodes this season, and since the start ive been watching the dvds to get caught up while watching season 4 as well. well, last night i just got done with the last episode of season 2, what im wondering is, is that how it really ends with palmer collapsing outside the limo? i looked on the website for episode guide and the guide says nothing about it, i dont think i had the deleted scenes on. it just seems like kind of a weird way to end the season, with palmers hand boiling up from that lady and falling over. so is that how it ends? thanks..

Yea here is the 14 list but I won't type up what he says about each one (which is quite funny) because it is too long. You will have to wait for the article to show up online I guess:
14 Lessons of 24
1. The Clock is always ticking
2. There are enemies everywhere
3. We fight back with American Technology
4. The technology always screws up.
5. The management ain't that great either
6. The more Chloe pouts, the better
7. Never trust the President's wife
8. Never trust smart African-American women in general
9. The president's advisers are monsters of expediency
10. On 24, suicide is always an option
11. For 24 hours, the rule of law is suspended
12. In the course of the season, one good guy will get killed
13. In the course of the season, one good guy will turn out to be a bad guy
14. For one day a year, Jack Bauer will not need to go to the bathroom for 24 hours

Well, thats pretty cool. Even though i love the show, I personally will not put the show ahead of the few priorities i have right now. I dont want to argue about piracy and such either, i was just trying to justify why I did not want to spend the 50+ dollars on the dvd right now and that it wasnt because i was cheap.

Alright guys- my peckerwood roommate signed up for intramural soccer- and his games are Monday nights at 9. Last week he was back by 10:15, so it's not an issue of staying up that late to watch it, but I'm not excited about waiting on him for the next 6 weeks or more.
So, do I wait on him and watch it [potentially for the next few weeks] or should I just let him deal with the consequences of his commitment and watch it live?

That is so naive it's hilarious.
I hope you're kidding. :D
If you've ever watched 24 in anamorphic widescreen with 700W of Dolby Digital 5.1 coming at you from all sides, you'll know I'm not kidding.
I have bought every season of 24 within the first week of it's release on Digital Versatile Disc.
:D
No, but I am considerate (to a degree). Do you get more enjoyment out of going to the movies with a group of friends or by yourself?
I'm quite happy to go to a Monday matinee by myself with a pinner. That's when it's most empty. I can't enjoy the cinema anymore. There's too much yapping and crinkling of wrappers.
Take Return Of The King for instance. I finally watched it in January in DTS 5.1 all by myself, the Platinum Edition.
It was well worth the wait and a treat to watch all the way through with no distractions.
People talking behind me in the cinema at the end of every scene really causes me to sweat and my pulse increases until I tell them to shut it, then it takes me 15 minutes to calm down and get back into the movie.
:lol
I guess I should just watch at home. At least I can have a few beers while I watch.

If you noticed, he jumped in to the car. He wasn't hit by the bumper. Having worked for a major insurance company and seen plenty of car vs. pedestrian accidents, it's usually the bumper that does the most damage. Also, hitting your head on the car (windshield) or ground makes a huge difference. Jack didn't hit his head on the windshield. He threw his shoulder into the windshield. Yes, I think it was slightly over the top, but not that bad considering how it happened.
EDIT: Also, he didn't want to risk killing the father since they needed him, too.

Yeah I knew he had to be trained in how to not get hurt in a situation like that. I sorta figured they needed the son more than the father because they can save the son and the mother will talk. But what do I know. This is the first season I've watched.

They just showed that clip again of him taking on the car. Local Fox channel 10 oclock news made a big deal about a short 15 second clip of some former CIA guy who says CTU is much like what happens inside the CIA every day. "Unfortunately, there are even some people like [double crossing agents]."

Here is the full article about 24 that Stephen King wrote in this week's Entertainment Weekly:
It's always annoying to be bumped by the front-of-the-book boys and girls (this column was slated to go last week, but then News & Notes ran ''Has 24 Gone Too Far?''), but the additional time has given me a chance to refine these 14 Lessons. Hell, even back-of-the-book guys understand that when it comes to current events, the clock is always...but that's Lesson 1.
1. The Clock Is Always Ticking This builds suspense and rushes us past any inconsistencies, as in season 3, where the subways, streets, and schools are filled long after President Palmer has told everyone in L.A. to stay home.
2. There Are Enemies Everywhere They have homemade nukes, vials stuffed with lethal viruses, and Nuclear Power Plant Meltdown Devices (NPPMDs). Many of the enemies have prayer rugs rolled up in their closets and names like Behrooz.
3. We Fight Back With American Technology The center of this fight is the Counter Terrorist Unit (CTU), filled with computers and run by a boss who never stops saying stuff like ''Switch the A-4 booger-sucker node to kernel 7 now!'' and ''Nobody goes home until we get these guys!''
4. The Technology Always Screws Up Those tracking satellites are especially pesky, but the darn computers aren't much better; they always seem to be full of worms and viruses. I often wish that stoner guy would stroll in and say, ''Hey, CTU dudes, don't worry! You're all gettin' Dells!''
5. The Management Ain't That Great Either Last year's boss (Tony Almeida) went in the crapper for putting his wife's safety above the welfare of the country. This year's boss (Erin Driscoll) has a schizo daughter with a morbid fixation on the 7-year-old next door. Erin also loathes Jack Bauer and dumped Chloe O'Brien, who seems to be the only tech (other than Edgar) capable of using CTU's off-brand computers and no-name software.
6. The More Chloe Pouts, the Better I can't wait for Chloe (underplayed with deadly, delightful precision by Mary Lynn Rajskub) to return from exile. Why is that?
7. Never Trust the President's Wife If you watched the first three seasons and met Sherry Palmer, a smiling ogre who makes Erin Driscoll seem a schoolyard brat, no further explanation is needed.
8. Never Trust Smart African-American Women in General As last week's EW story points out, they all seem to be high-riding you-know-what cutters. Sherry Palmer, seasons 1-3; Julia Milliken, last season; the current Marianne Taylor; case closed.
9. The President's Advisers Are Monsters of Expediency Sherry Palmer is always the best example of this lesson, but recently the man closest to the current president advised that it would be better to scrag the hostage secretary of defense (and his daughter) in a purposely botched raid rather than allow terrorists to put him on trial. Harsh! Last year, President Palmer's brother wanted to snag Senator Keeler's debate playbook and later took part in an abortive black-bag job that led to a murder-suicide. And, speaking of suicide:
10. On 24, Suicide Is Always an Option Mysterious and vaguely Middle Eastern music preceding the act is optional (as just before Kalil Hasan offed himself by running into a truck), but the act itself is always on the table. It's true that Ryan Chappelle couldn't quite bring himself to ventilate the old brain bucket (Jack Bauer considerately finished him off), and Secretary of Defense Heller and his daughter Audrey were saved before they could finish sniffing the gas, but Julia Milliken turned the trick last season...and then there were all those hotel virus victims, lining up for so-long capsules. I kept wondering if they were swallowing them with Kool-Aid while the Reverend Jim Jones told stories about his dear old mother.
11. For 24 Hours, the Rule of Law Is Suspended There's no worrying about search warrants, Miranda warnings, any of that nonsense. Things are too dire. Everything is black-and-white; the good guys are all good and the bad guys are superbad (Nina Myers, for instance, may be the greatest TV villain ever). Certainly no one worries about a little torture with the fate of the country hanging by a thread. Jack Bauer never works over the wrong person, anyway. Although wouldn't it be great if, after shooting a guy in the leg and then asking him who he works for, the guy screamed: ''I work for Dell, dude! I came to fix the crappy computers in this place! Please don't shoot me in the other leg!''
12. In the Course of the Season, One Good Guy Will Get Killed Or — as in the case of Chase Edmunds — will only get his hand chopped off.
13. In the Course of the Season, One Good Guy Will Turn Out to Be a Bad Guy This is the Nina Myers Rule, and to 24 fans, it really needs no further explanation. You can't call it the Tony Almeida Rule, because I had a feeling Tony would be back even before he turned up to save Jack and Audrey's bacon.
And finally...of course...
14. For One Day a Year, Jack Bauer Will Not Need to Go to the Bathroom for 24 Hours But once those 24 hours are up, I bet he's in there for a long time.

The only thing I disagree with is the bathroom rule. In every season of 24 Jack is in CTU for at least one time period. In this time there is ample time for him to have used the bathroom whilst other people are getting their air time.

And besides, who wants to see Jack taking a piss for a minute when he could be out kicking terrorist ass.

Personally, I'd like to see what Jack's packing down there. If his attitude is any indicator he's got that bitch on a hose roller.

Alan,
Whenever I read one of your posts, it has a disgusting tone to it. Jack's package, anal content, whatever it may be. I notice a lot of it in your posts. Now I'm sure you have plenty of anal-free posts, but it just so happens that I am coming across your less-G-rated ones. Last warning: knock it off.

that could be entertaining. Jack being on the toilet with the clock ticking....and ticking....and ticking....and ticking and then he runs out of toilet paper and then the beeps start up and the show goes to a commercial

I know y'all are just joking around. It would just be pointless to have him go to the bathroom during the show. Just imagine when hes not in the scene hes taking a massive dump elsewhere?

I've wondered why there was a thread based on this show.
I've wondered why Matt had that avatar.
Now I know - what a great show. Watched my first one 2 wks ago.

Maybe you're not reading all of them or reading them out of context. Could be lots of things...

all the ones i have read have been like that.
you certainly seem to have an anal fixation

:thumbsup It's especially nice to watch after I get out of a two and a half hour class. It definitely helps me unwind.

Life sucks today. I won't make it home in time tonight from to see the show. I'll have to stay up late tonight and watch in on the vcr. I know I'll still get to see it but I'll be watching it alone and it just doesn't seem as good that way.

I usually watch it a 12am on the west coast. I play hockey before, so I'm all jacked up, then I watch 24 and my head is ready to explode.

So far this episode is a little slow (aside from the Araz situation). I'm making an educated guess here (:D) by saying the last 10 minutes should rock.

I think they should have done it. It would have been similar to the Cubs mug throwback that we had earlier.
