Tony's done for. ESPECIALLY because it was Chase who was supposed to go and Fox needs to further that storyline.
No superficial neck wounds gush blood like that.
Tony's done. 24 shocks us again.

Tony dying is what makes 24 good. You never know whats going to happen.

I think Tony is probably dead. You have to figure the scenes between Jack & Chase arguing about being an agent and having relationships...how Jack said it was basically impossible. As a result of that, Jack took Chase out of the loop and "replaced" him with Tony who is married to Michelle. Tony dies - Michelle is screwed, right in step with what Jack said.
willnole
11-12-2003, 10:45 AM
There were several allusions to Tony getting killed. When Kim spoke to Michelle about how hard a relationship with Tony (as a CTU agent) is. The "Chase was supposed to be there instead of Tony" theory.
I dunno. I really think he's a goner.
No one's talking about the fact that the lawyer got killed. How screwed up was that.
you mean the guy the guard killed? i didn't realize he was a lawyer.

Minorly screwed up.
Not even close to the same "Screwed Up" scale as Jack killing Marshall Goran and then sawing off his head last season in episode 1 though.
It was probably along the same lines --- just for shock value to kick the season off in standard 24 style.

Who was the guy that the guard strangled, another CTU agent? I couldn't figure out his role in bringing Salazar down.

He was another guy who worked along with Jack on the Salazar case during the past few years (the time that elapsed between seasons).

All right, a hypothetical situation here...
Say Tony is dead (I don't think he is, but for the sake of this situation he is). It seems to me that Michelle, his wife, is next in line there at CTU. But since her husband is now dead (for the sake of this argument) do you think she'd be of sound mind (obviously she's going to grieve) to take his place and run things in CTU? If she's not, who would be in line to take charge? Gael (the bad guy) seems like he's kinda high up in the ranks, and that could cause all kinds of trouble. Who else? Kim, Chase, Chloe, that guy that sits across from Kim (his name escapes me right now)...what do y'all think? Discuss.
(I'm sorry, I'm INSANELY bored here at the office and reading everyone's thoughts of how they think he's dead prompted this thought.)

If Michelle is next in line, it doesn't look good for Jack, because she might blame him for Tony's death.

Hmm, I don't really know. It depends on how high up Gael is in the command chain. If he does take over, all hell could break loose. I still think if Tony dies, Michelle will take over.
It's too bad George Mason's dead, coulda used him now, huh?

If Tony dies they might bring back Chapelle. I was thinking about this though, I really don't think he's dead. In the previews for the next episode Michelle is talking and she is not upset at all. If her husband died I think she would be way to emotional. Also I really don't think the President's brother is doing anything wrong. I don't trust that Anne lady. Something about her...
I bet that CTU hasn't told Michelle yet (in the previews for next episode). I literally yelled "No!" when they shot Tony. As much as I HATE to say this - I think he's gone. It's perfect 24 fashion to knock off a huge character. I think they really bucked the trend that they set for themselves by making Palmer survive last season's attack.
Tony's done. :( I just hope I'm wrong.
i didn't yell anything, but i let out a huge gasp when he got shot.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I hate the President's brother. I really don't like Anne either. We'll see what's up with them...

We all yelled too last night when we saw it. I hope he's not gone, but as you say, it *is* like them to kick off someone huge like him. The thing is, word spreads around that building very quickly, so *if* he's 'dead, I can't imagine Michelle wouldn't know...

Tony isn't dead. He can't be. No way.
I hope...
If he does die, it would be a stroke of genius for the writers to put Gael in charge of CTU.
HOWEVER... even if Tony doesn't die, he may be out of commision for the rest of the day. They'll probably have to take him to the hospital and maybe do surgery, so he would need a temporary replacement.
I had pretty much guessed that the virus was not in the bag, but I had no idea that Kyle was infected. Great twist.

I might have a big 24 announcement by the end of the month:D
I've got a good feeling about this, however I'm definitely anticipating way too much and in the end nothing is probably going to happen, but here goes:
The Official 24 Sweepstakes just ended.
About 2-3 years ago I saw some bit on 60 Minutes, or 20/20 or something. It was about a woman who had won an inordinate amount of sweepstakes and contests. Long story short, they asked how she did it, and all she said was that in all honestly, she just made sure to read all the rules and follow them, because generally there are tiny little clauses in them that disquality 99.9% of the people that usually enter.
That whole thing came back to me as I was casually finding out about the 24 sweepstakes, so I made sure to read all the rules very closely. Here's what I came up with:
"The Next Ford F-150's "24" Internet Sweepstakes ("Sweepstakes") begins at 12:00 am PT on September 7, 2003 and ends 11:59 pm PT on November 14, 2003. Sweepstakes is sponsored by Fox Broadcasting Company, 10201 West Pico Boulevard, Los Angeles, California 90035 ("Sponsor") and is hosted by FOX.com."
[.....]
"Each entrant must be the rightful owner (or have authorized use) of the e mail address identified in the entrant’s entry as of September 6, 2003. In the event of a dispute as to the identity of a winner, the winner will be deemed to be the person in whose name the e mail account governing the e mail address was opened. Entrants must provide all information requested to be eligible to win. Incomplete, unreadable, or unintelligible entries will be disqualified. All entries must be received 11:59 pm PT on November 14, 2003. All information provided by entrants becomes the property of Sponsor, and will be used solely in connection with the Sweepstakes, in accordance with applicable law."
Read that part again - All entries must be received 11:59 pm PT on November 14, 2003.
If anyone actually read the rules, they'd just breeze over that thinking "Ok, all entries have to be in by 11:59 on Nov 14th."
Except it doesnt technically say that. The way I read it is that all entries must be recieved exactly at 11:59pm PT on Nov 14th or else they'll be considered inelligible.
So yea, I woke up at 2:59am eastern time last friday and submitted my entry.
I could probably be grossly wrong, but then again I think I'm probably extremely correct, and you might all see me win that walk-on, non-speaking role in this season of 24 (which is the grand prize.) :D
that's is great, but what clock are they going by? who is to say that 2:59am in your house , isn't 3:01am at my house. if you submitted your entry at 2:59am, the "official" clock at the FOX headquarters may have read 2:57am or even 3:00am.
i have 5 or 6 clocks in my house that are never the exact same time.
know what i mean?
either way, good luck. :)

Great point, and luckily I thought of that before I entered. These days, any "system" and all of its constituent parts are in dead-on time synchronization. For instance, cell phones. Ever notice that? The time on your cable box. Your computer clock.
All things of that nature are pretty much in perfect synchronization with the national bureau of standards clocks. Windows even has a function built into it where you can log into any different servers and re-synchronize your computer clock settings to match the clock at NBS. There are also plenty of websites out there that enable this function as well.
I'm sure you see where I'm going with this.
So yeah, I refreshed my clock settings about 50 times before I actually entered. I'm pretty sure I got the entry in at the perfect time.
I sent it right around 2:59:30, just to make sure I had enough buffer in either direction too:)
i see your point.
also, did it say All entries must be received 11:59 pm PT on November 14, 2003.
exactly like that? it didn't say "... at 11:59" ?
it seems weird to me because the sentence doesn't sound right.

Yep. That's exactly what it said. That's how I even caught onto it in the first place, because I was reading it and stumbled over that part thinking, "That sentence isnt grammatically correct." From there, the whole thing about that lady on 20/20 sparked back into my memory and it was all downhill from there:D
Check it out and see what you think:

(Of course I could not share this while the sweepstakes was still active...I couldn't risk letting such great information out and decreasing my chances to win) :lol

I agree...but on a much larger scale. To be completely honest, I'm disappointed in this season. When I watched the first two, I was so completely captivated I could block out the rest of the world. I literally sat on the edge of my seat totally engulfed in the show. I would scream when the clock would start to tick for the commercials or when something big would happen. This season, I just don't get any of those feelings. It's good enough for me to watch each week, but I'm not so enthralled like I have been in previous seasons. Hopefully things will change.
It will be interesting to see how things unfold in the next few episodes...

Wrong, that'd be too predictable. If they're going to kill him off it'd be completly unexpected. (something like the Russian Roulete scene) The won't do the typical "kill of off a character at the end of the season his contract runs out" thing.

What was that hug between Michelle and Ryan all about? Seems like they went out of their way to make it seem extra awkward.
And was there a little foreshadowing when Palmer's brother said to him "We can't let anyone know what Jack did. That would do extensive damage to you and the office. Now you know what I'm saying is true. I'm sorry, but you're going to have to let him go."

Mark, Nina worked in CTU in a previous season. It turned out she was a mole and helping to plot against CTU, similar to what Gael's doing now. Nina's got all kinds of crazy info...she pops back into the scene from time to time...I'm surprised she hasn't shown up yet.
For a visual, if you've ever seen the commercials for the season 2 DVDs, she's the girl with the short brown hair that Jack flips out at after he flips over the table in the questioning room.

that was just plain amazing.
yet another twist that I didn't see coming.
The last five minutes of that episode had me go from panicking because I couldn't believe that they would make Jack of all people a traitor, to being in absolute shock at the twist. I mean, at this point in time, you try and speculate as to where each episode could go, and after 54 episodes, there was still NO WAY I could have seen that coming.
I KNEW that Gael wasn't a "mole", so to speak. Been saying it since the first episode. "No way he's what we think he is. They had Nina in S1, and it would be lame if this guy just so happens to infiltrate CTU so easily. There's gotta be something that we don't know yet about him." BOOM.
It's simply the greatest entertainment spectacle ever. 24 will win the Emmy this year for Best Drama, hands down.

i was talking to a guy who's wife works in the entertainment industry here in Canada. she told him that this show is written on the fly and that the network (?) does massive amounts of research after each show. they try and find out what people like and don't like about the current direction.
ie: people didn't care too much about this whole powder/kyle singer thing, so they got rid of him.
is this common knowledge?

i figured they had a line that they followed, but could improvise when/if needed.
Mark - that's pretty much generally true. Episodes are "finalized" not long before they air on television so there's time to change things if the need arises. I remember one interview with one of the producers, and he was talking about Nina, and he said something along the lines of, "We're not sure if Nina will be coming back. She may, she may not. If we need her, I'm sure she'll come out"
"If we need her" - so you can tell they go on a one episode at a time basis.

I'm predicting the Chase scenario right now. Chase wil get captured by Salazar's men. They will bring him in, and Ramon will question Jack's loyalty to the Salzar family. Ramon will then tell Jack that if he is indeed back with them, that he will have no problem blowing Chase's brains out. Then Jack will figure something hardcore out like usual.

I found it kinda weird that Anne decided that she wanted to end things with the president. I really didn't have an opinion about her, but I kinda feel better now that she's gone. I *still* don't like the president's brother.
I wanna know what's up with Jack and Claudia. The conversation (or her little speech to Jack) was interesting and confusing at the same time. I wonder if they had some kinda fling...
It will be interesting to see how Tony and Michelle interact for the rest of the season. Michelle seems pretty darn pissed that Tony kept the plot from her.
Chase just needs to die.
I'm not sure how I'm feeling about either Salazar. I'm finding it surprising that Ramon's been so trusting of both Hector and Jack. Hector just weirded me out this past episode, but I can't really put my finger down as to why, but I'm not liking him so much.

Someone from Jack’s past emerges as a bidder for the virus. It’s...
Here we go. OK. So there are a few possible scenarios (that I can think of - which means it will be none of these given the writers' amazing ability to surprise us all without being unrealistic.)
1. It's Nina. The easiest and most feasible of the choices. However, some call this predictable. I for one want to see her. But if it's not her, what does that do for her chances of showing up the rest of the season? I want that Max/Nina thing tied up! AND what did Jack whisper to her in S2 right before they took her away??
2. It's Mandy. Very possible given her status as a freelance (maybe not?) terrorist. I think we can all safely assume that every little branch of the massive world that is 24 is connected by a common root. The writers are doing such a good job of pacing themselves.
3. Sherry Palmer. Not likely, the hair didn't seem to match hers.
4. Someone from Jack's past that we don't know about yet, and will learn more about as the season goes on.
I think #4 is most likely. But I am pulling for #1 :) SO EXCITED!!

Here we go.
*sigh* i am so lost :(

24 is the only thing I'll turn over the TV from the Leafs for. I watched from the 1st ep season I. What a gorgeous shot of the Petronas Towers in the very first few seconds. Home of the Sepang track - Malaysian GP.
Tonight's episode will be totally f'ing brilliant. Nine hours to go!!!!!
There's some funny stuff on IMDb's 24 message board. I need to find the one parody this guy did of season1 and post it. Made me burst my pantalones!
I think there should be more of Mandy. What a gorgeous terrorist!

The following is an affectionate spoof of a truly classy show. No insults meant..
BLACK SCREEN
JACK (VO) The following takes place between 2 pm and 3 pm.
DISPLAY THE TICKING CLOCK
SPLITSCREEN - As so often in 24 we see four separate events going on at the same time in small boxes spread across the screen. In Box 1 we see President Palmer pacing and looking moody. In Box 2 we see Jack driving and dialling on his cellphone. In Box 3 we see Kim running and sweating. In Box 4 we see the bad guys checking their guns. Expand Box 2 to fill the screen.
JACK (talking on phone): Alright... alright. I'll be there in a few minutes. (hangs up phone).
He pulls up at a gas station. We see him get out and fill the car up, then wobbly-cam follow him into the kiosk.
GAS GUY: That's twelve seventy-five, buddy.
JACK: Sure. (smiles, but his voice has the usual "I'm gonna hurt you bad" grate).
He hands over the money, then suddenly pulls out a gun and points it straight at the guy's head.
JACK: Now tell me where the bomb is.
GAS GUY: But I...
JACK: TELL ME WHERE THE BOMB IS!
GAS GUY: Listen, man, take whatever you want...
JACK: Don't try and get past me. Tell me where the bomb is NOW or your family dies!
GAS GUY: C'mon, bud, I don't even know about any bomb..
JACK: There's a nuclear bomb going off today! That's classified information but you're a suspect so I can tell you! Keep it to yourself if you're innocent. Now tell me where the bomb is!
GAS GUY: Blungle! *sets fire to himself and dives out the window*
JACK: Dammit, not again...
He backs away, looking slightly guilty.
SPLITSCREEN - Four boxes. Box 1, we see Jack getting back into his car. Box 2, we see Tony Almeida picking his nose and surfing porn on the internet. Box 3, we see Kim running and sweating. Box 4, we see Sherry Palmer talking to someone in her office. Enlarge Box 4.
SHERRY: ...and straight after that, I won the Nobel Peace Prize.
CIA AGENT: Wow, congratulations.
SHERRY: I didn't really! That was just part of the intricate tissue of lies and deceit which I create to work my way into a position of power. Now, where is the President?
CIA AGENT: He's in a briefing, ma'am.
SHERRY: Tell him that there's a conspiracy to assassinate him today.
CIA AGENT: There is?
SHERRY: No! That was last series. Now it's just part of the intricate tissue of lies and deceit which I create to work my way into a position of power.
CIA AGENT: I don't think you're well, ma'am.. *takes out his radio*
SHOT of Sherry's eyes flicking in understated shock
SPLITSCREEN: Four boxes. Box 1 shows George Mason coughing and pacing. Box 2 shows Jack pulling up again and entering CTU Box 3 shows Kim running and sweating. Box 4 shows President Palmer sitting on the toilet reading the paper. Enlarge Box 2.
JACK enters the main (but slightly bombed) office of CTU. Tony gets up to greet him.
TONY: Jack...
JACK: Tell me where the bomb is.
TONY: Sure, Jack, Sure. Now, didn't we talk about this last week? You're not well, Jack.
JACK: Don't try and distract me... tell me where the bomb is...!
TONY: Jack, nobody here knows where the bomb is..
JACK: I'll kick you in the nuts.
TONY: Please don't. I thought we agreed you were going to stop coming here, Jack..
JACK: Tell me where the bomb is.
TONY: You're sposed to be taking some time off, Jack.. you can't keep doing this to people. The government can only give you so much slack..
JACK: Tell me where... my family is!
TONY: Your family?
JACK: Yes. My family. Give me my family back, you crack-whore.
TONY: I don't have your family.
JACK: You don't?
TONY: No.
JACK: Then tell me where the bomb is!
TONY: Right, that does it. *pulls out radio*
SPLITSCREEN: Four boxes. Box 1 shows Jack being led down a dark corridor. Box 2 shows a selection of stock information and shipping forecasts. Box 3 shows Kim running and sweating along the great wall of China. Box 4 shows Nina Myers torturing a puppy. Enlarge Box 1.
JACK is led down a corridor and shoved into a cell. We see him react in shock as he meets his cellmate - Sherry Palmer. He gets right to the point.
JACK: Tell me where the bomb is.
SHERRY: It's in Paris.
JACK: Really?
SHERRY: No. That was just part of the intricate tissue of lies and deceit which I create to work my way into a position of power.
JACK: Tell me where the bomb is.
SHERRY: It's in Guata La Hara.
JACK: Really?
CUT TO BLACK and the ticking clock.

I was enjoying your spoof until that lame Jack-Tony scene... crack-whore? Come on... Jack uses phrases like "Son-of-a-crack-whore"

Indeed, tonight's show will be amazing, I'm sure. But we have a lot more than 9 hours to go. We have 16 left, correct? So far we've had 8 episodes.

It's 24 mania! If you don't watch this show, you should. That goes for everyone. That's direct order.

I like 24, but only watched the first season, i was a little disappointed that they killed off his wife. I didn't have time last year for the 2nd season and haven't gotten into the 3rd because I missed so much. I'll catchem on DVD.
PS> thanks matt for fixing the option to delete PM's while looking at them!

I meant literally 9 hours to go till tonights episode!!! :p
Yeeeehaww!!! Those three week breaks at xmas sure kinda suck but when they're just about over the anticipation is at psycho level.
Best bloody show on TV in quite some time. The role was hatched in a test tube for Keifer - perfect casting fairly much throughout the series I thought.
Xander as George Mason was a stroke of genius.

I agree. The casting on this show is superior to anything I've ever seen. The Sopranos comes close, but 24 sets the bar.
I also agree with you on the "psycho level" factor after the 3 week layoff. I'm dyin for tonight!

I've heard that Alias has the same appeal, but I've never seen it.
After watching the first episode of season one on DVD, we couldn't stop. We went through the first two seasons in three or four days a piece. This last three weeks have been killing me.

no doubt. I watched the whole thing in 3 days (season 2) including the story of the last two eps being shot.
Anyone get to see Season 2 on a home theatre system? In Dolby Digital 5.1? Man it's so cool. Everytime a window shrinks in and lands with a huge thud!! If you have season 2 and don't have home theatre but have a friend who does - check out the first episode at their place. Awesome!!!!Season 1 is great on DVD as well but what a shame it's only in Dolby 2.0 stereo.

I didn't get into it from the start because I figured how much can happen in 24 hours... I guess I figured it would be slow moving without a lot of action but damn! They are not kidding when they say it's the worst day of his life.

I just wish my DVD player didn't have an issue with the Dolby Digital encoding on my season 2 set! 3-4 times an episode sound will just drop for a split second. Not a big deal, but annoying to the audiophile :) I switched the DVD player output from Raw to PCM, you lose the DD as it drops to ProLogicII, but it's still sweet as hell. :)

One of the coolest parts of the whole show are the beginning sequences. Especially from season one.
"Right now, terrorists are plotting to assassinate a presidential candidate. My wife and daughter have been targeted. And people that I work with...may be involved in both. I'm federal agent Jack Bauer...and today, is the longest day of my life."
Boom.
"The following takes place..." <--LOVE that part. Especially from S2 and S3. Previously on 24 always ends with the same intensity as the previous episode, then boom, right into "The following takes place..."
Christ I have chills.

Yea and as the 24 symbol sizzles and whooshes it goes right through the rear speakers - awesome!
Are you using an optical output for your DVD player? I watch mine through an optical output from the XBox and don't have any troubles with the 5.1.
Best 5.1 sound I've ever heard - Stiing's "Brand New Day" from DTS Entertainment http://www.dtsentertainment.com
But that's way off topic sorry!
Zoom! Boom! It will be so cool to re-watch Season 3 this September in 5.1 but for now I have to suffer regular TV (despite having a 32" Sony Trinitron, Pioneer 500Wx5 amp and JBL 5.1 speakers with 200W active subwoofer we DONT have our cable going through the stereo)
Suffer isn't the right word though - it's 24!!!!!!!
