1) It's three years later. It's not like she didn't learn anything in those three years.

so i decided to see what the big deal was. Last night I went out and rented the first disc of the first season....its addicting. I was planning on watching an episode....MAYBE 2..and i ended up watchin the entire disc. Haha i think ill rent the rest of season 1 tonight.

No I'm pretty sure that's the UK release date, much the same as last year. UK gets it in August and we get it in December.
According to amazon.com there is no date available yet, but according to amazon.co.uk they have the package design and release date set as August 8th, 2005.

I did find that post back on page 205 but I also noticed when I clicked on the link to watch the video that the final screen that had the December release date on it has dissappeared. Odd indeed isn't it? I do believe that once again the NTSC edition will come out in December though.

I would HIGHLY suggest trying to acquire the DVD's if you can. Try to start from season one if possible. My friend bought season 3 watched that then one then two. But I watched season one around 4 monts ago and this show is my favorite right behind Curb Your Enthusiasm. Although I don't see how anyone watches it on TV. I'm definitely going to wait for the DVD's for season 5. Every episode leaves you hanging really bad and having to wait a week would drive me crazy. Not to mention there is no way I could deal with commercials...

I just got burned last year by FoxNews.com. About 4 eps into the season, they had a front page news blurb about Palmer returning for the last four episodes of the season. I was livid - wrote a nasty email and everything. So watching the season, knowing in the back of my head that Palmer was returning, everything became so predictable. Anderson stealing the Fighter, going after AF1, AF1 being hit...I saw it all coming. Take away knowing that Palmer was returning and the season would have been a lot more enjoyable.

That being said, it's extremely difficult to ignore that button ;)

That spoiler you posted earlier is most definitely false. The only place it's located is on imdb, and they have had so much false information about guest stars in the past. If it was true it would be everywhere.

I don't like knowing anything about this show. In Canada you don't get the next week's preview and I'm kind of glad about that. Although sometimes in this thread, which is always a great place to discuss 24, people discuss the teaser for the next week and give away key information.

Wow, I was reading thru the details of the special features on the season 4 DVD (can be done here, it's at the top of the page: http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=21972 ) and I was surprised to find out that the Shannon Doherty who is commenting on one of the episodes, IS indeed the ex-90210 actress! What the hell is she doing on there, just because she's a fan?? I think that's really lame. I understand there's already been a precendent set occasionally where maybe like a director goes and guest-commentates on a DVD which had nothing to do with him (I believe Soderbergh joins someone on their DVD, and he didn't even serve as like a producer capacity on the film or anything) but c'mon, that's another director and a great one at that. So you're just gonna have some TV actress telling what she thinks just because she's a fan? I think if you're gonna do something like that, they should hold a contest where just a normal person big fan of the show should get to enter to be able to comment on one of the shows, ya know to get a good outsider's, fan perspective.

Also I'm a little bothered by hearing that the season 5 prequel takes place 1 year after season 4 and 6 months before s5. And that's mainly because they'd said that the events of s4 would more directly inform on those of s5 than the transition from any other season in the show's history, so it would for sure, at least at the beginning, have much to do with the Chinese government's actions to get some kind of revenge back on Jack. Well when I first heard that, that to me implied we'd start in fact at a time quite shortly after we last saw Jack, maybe even at most just a couple months. But heck, s5 starts off a year and a half after s4 ended? That's really not that much less a gap than we've had in the past between seasons.

Yeah it's on the extra's on the Season 4 dvd. It starts at 1:47pm, Jack is sporting a mullet, and is in a car chase. The clock stops at 2pm, so I am kind of assuming Season 5 will start then.

As I pointed out some of this in my post further up on this page...

Firstly: yes, the "prequel" takes place 1 year after the end of season 4's events, but season 5 does NOT then begin at 2pm of that same day (apparently the time the prequel ends, I haven't seen it myself to confirm this). There is then another 6 month gap between the end of the prequel and the start of the events of season 5. So all total, season 5 begins 1.5 years after season 4 finishes (this would also suggest to go along with what we've seen of Jack having a mullet during the prequel, but then the previews of the actual season 5 have him back to a short, close cut. He obviously grew his hair long at the start (or is wearing a wig in hiding) and then got it cut after those events finished).

Second: People won't "need" to have seen the DVD prequel to understand anything about season 5, presumably, anyway. Just as with deleted and/or extended scenes on a movie DVD release, such scenes are not integral to the plot (thus their exclusion from the theatrical release), but they can act to those who choose to view them as a device to further flesh out certain characters or situations. The prequel that was on the season 3's DVD, you didnt absolutely have to see it to be able to understand and fully enjoy anything about the then-impending season 4. If memory serves, it only really included a scene of Jack and Audrey (was that her name? the Sec of Def's daughter?) in a hotel room starting to get a little frisky and discussing the topic of finally telling her father about the two of them, and also it contained a scene at CTU occurring later, introducing the character of Driscoll where she explained to Jack that even though it was technically understood that Jack's heroin addiction was by way of him working (& also he was in full recovery) they still couldn't hire him back, and he was officially fired. But those fans who have seen it know that the REAL attraction of that whole prequel (which was the first time new footage was produced to bridge 2 seasons together, I believe) was to see Jack drop the uncensored F-bomb to Driscoll, as of course the special features on the DVD were unrated. ;)

Lastly: I can't say for sure on any past seasons of 24 being available for sale at only $20, I haven't officially seen that anywhere myself to claim, but I would say it wouldn't be entirely unreasonable. Amazon currently has well over a dozen different entire single season sets of certain TV series for only $19.97 (including the first 2 of the West Wing, most of the Friends seasons, and lost more).

In the DVD box set for S4, there is a 5 min. prequel. I won't tell you what happened, but, if I remember correctly, Jack was in Chicago.

There was an S5 prequel on the Season 4 DVD. It was 6 months earlier than the start of Season 5, and Jack was in Illinois.

Anyone else think that it would have been cooler had Palmer been in the first couple hours? Maybe kill Michelle for shock value in hour 1, then let the Palmer assassination build. Keep him around enough to point where you wouldn't expect him to get killed. Jack could realize the connection between Tony, Michelle, and Chloe (even though it was a diversion) but not get there in time to save him and then have hour 4 end with the Palmer hit followed by the clock ticking to end the hour.

I loved the first 2 eps, but I think that would have been a little cooler.

Yeah I was kinda let down when Palmer didn't get the silent tick, but I guess he technically already got it at the very end of S2.

Go figure FOX would off the first black President. Just more proof that FOX is trying to dump off all the black dudes to the UPN. Bernie Mac was first, David Palmer, #2. Pretty soon Curtis will be over on that channel with a hip new family comedy "Hangin' With Mr. Curtis"....
