Yeah the luggage scene was either dumb, or very well timed on Jack's part.

A new thought that spurred into my mind today.
If the plane that Jack holds up is in the air, I'm taking hard odds that Logan will order to shoot it down.

I don't think Heller is dead. Sure there is an air pocket and the man is smart enough to figure out a way to swim out of there.
I hope you are right but I think the impact alone would have killed him.

this is whats gonna happen:
Jack is gonna open the cockpit window, jump out, start firing his gun, barrel roll in mid-air to avoid one of the F-18's missiles, and then shoot the F-18's down, and then fall into the cockpit again as the plane is on a downward path

Yeah he is the only guy that can take out the air marshal, control an entire plane of people, know exaclty where the rudder cables were and somehow avoid being shot out of the air by a fighter jet. This dude owns all good guys on television ever.

Actually, the missile will see Jack Bauer in the plane, and out of fear for its life turn around and blow up Logan.

Congrats on Jack passing one of the post 9/11 airplane citizen checks. They are as follows:
Air Marshall Test - Find the air marshall and take his gun
Cockpit Door Integrity Test - Run full speed and drop kick the cockpit door. If it remains closed it is safe.
Drop A Note - Drop a note in the aisle that says, "there is a bomb on the plane, guess where?" -grade the flight crew on their response.

Both of them are not "in on it." Logan is the main baddies as we have come to see over the past few weeks. I don't know why you think the VP has anything to do with it, besides him taking over control of CTU. I think he did that, because he has his own personal agenda, and wants to take over as president.

Hey all, don't know if this has been mentioned on here yet (apologies if it has) but Kiefer was on British TV just last week, talking about 24 and the plans to make a 24 movie, which is to be filmed in London.

I have so many issues with tonights episode. Why is it that every audio/video/fingerprint/severed human thumb can be uploaded through any McGuyver-like contraption Jack has on him, but this audio file never gets consideration. And, Jack just busted his ass (to say the least) to get this audio file back yet when he gets to CTU he just hands it off like it's no biggie. Umm. . . this is evidence that proves the president is guilty of treason, murder, conspiracy, etc. I know Chloe is a badass, but come on. But the episode was good and I know the writers are just stretchin it to fill the season but it just erks me sometimes . . . :twenty4

Yeah, I've been a loyal fan of 24 since the first minute of the first season, but tonight I think they may have jumped the shark. That plane landing was not only improbable but totally impossible!
He stopped a giant jetliner going probably 300-400 mph in less than 4,000 feet all while just stopping before an overpass?? That kinda irked me. And the Heller thing just seemed to convenient, even though from the get go I had a feeling he would survive, I just didn't think they would write that in.
And yeah, how convenient for the President to get a temporary stay of execustion from dickless Miles just as he's about to blow his stupid brains out. I don't know, I hope this season turns out for the best, because they've really gone way over the top already with so many people in on this plot, especially head honcho Logan the brains of it all.

Yeh, I think Jack should have said to Chloe, "Chloe, I want you to make two hundred copies of this recording and hide them throughout CTU."
Cmon, the FIRST thing they should have done was make copies... DUH!!!
Also, Jack definitely should have accompanied Chloe for those TEN minutes before the video conference. Cmon, 21 hours awake and he can't see it through for another ten minutes without going to see that ugly skinny woman?
Oh well. I have faith that no more good people will die and all the bad people will get killed and/or put on trial for treason. Personally, no matter how much I would like to see Jack wring Logan's neck, I think Jack respects the office too much and would want a proper trial.

Towards the end of the season, I always get antsy about next season and apathetic about the ending of the current season, sooooooo...
Will Jack ever again work at CTU? Seems like S1 was really the only time he legitimately worked there and got a paycheck.
Will "24" ever take place in a city other than LA?
Will Curtis ever take on a larger role?
Oh, and as far as this season:
Will Teo make a reappearance?
Will CTU be reborn from its demolition by Homeland? If so, will Buchanan come back?

You aren't the only one....this season has done a shitty job of mentioning and bringing the classic characters into play. They bring back Kim for no reason (she BETTER show up in the last three episodes--there has to be closure at least on this issue), they haven't even mentioned Tony or Michelle...it's just weak. Plus, the show has taken way too many liberties with reality this season. I mean, there are still great parts to a lot of these episodes, but it's just becoming much more mainstream...ie, lack of boxes/interesting camera angles, more explosions/plane crash, etc...it's still better than any other show, however, it's a far cry from seasons 1, 2, or 3. One of the biggest things this season has lacked, however, is the "sappy moments" as my family jokingly calls them. The quiet moments of interaction between characters, especially those involving Jack. They just haven't been there for the majority of the season. These moments were mainstays of S1, 2, and 3, and are the reason we loved and hated characters like Tony, Michelle, Kim, Nina, Mason, Chase, and Chappelle...these are gone, and the characters just aren't as important, and what happens to them just doesn't hit home as much. I honestly don't care what happens to Audrey or Edgar or Bill or whoever, because I just don't care about their characters enough.
This week was bad at the start, pretty good at the end, in my opinion. I mean, the plane crash scene was very well done, however, it was completely unreasonable. What was worse was that Heller survived driving off the edge of the cliff...that was way too predictable and unbelievable. The fact that Miles turned bad (well, he was already bad) was also extremely weak and predictable, though, I wasn't bothered by this so much. His character is way too over-the-top evil, but the fact that he's bad is a pretty good "twist." I thought we would escape moles in CTU this season, but I guess it has to be...ah well, Bierko is a good character, and hopefully he should change up the last few episodes.
The middle-end of this episode was pretty good...Logan's dilemma about killing himself...the fact that he was about to do it, and was just saved by the call from Miles at the end. Surprisingly good cinematography during this part...a nice dark side to the episode.
I just hope the writers and directors re-evaluate their approach and get back to basics: Get rid of the over-the-top events, get back to establishing character in the characters, make the events more personal and relatable. The problem is everyone on the 24 boards laps up everything the writers and producers do, so it's doubtful anything will change, though.

that was a great episode with a terrible ending. it was terribly predictable and really stupid. The not making copies etc has been mentioned enough already, but it was just dumb. and what did miles do, shine a light on the recording to break it?
the real problem i have with this season isn't the story itself, there's only so many variations of "who's the bad guy-catch the terrorist" that they can do, and after 5 seasons, it's hard to be fresh, but that's not really the problem.
My problem is that I just don't care about any of the characters and what happens to them, most characters are weakly developed and have no substance. In previous seasons the characters really drove the show, even the unlikeable ones. I hated Sherry Palmer, but liked what she added to the show. I enjoyed hating her. This season, that just seems to be missing. The characters are flat, and boring.

Ummm . . . they did mention Michelle and Tony until they were killed off. They're not going to keep bringing them up b/c they aren't relevant to the story anymore. Also, Kim will be back for the final episodes. It was eluded to at the end of the last episode or maybe in the previews for next weeks. It was something about the guys controlling the president being able "to get to whoever they want".

That doesn't mean Kim is the one to return. I hope it does....she needs to be involved somehow. And yes, it would be nice to see the lack of Michelle or Tony's presence eluded to somehow...these characters were very close to Jack in previous seasons, and now it's just as if they never existed, and Jack seems to feel no pain for their deaths...it's a little weak and unbelievable that he wouldn't be affected, if you ask me.

I'm sorry, but the past few episodes of 24 have been really bad. It seems like the writers are making stuff up just minutes before they film. Everything is way sloppy and very roughly pieced together. I thought the season started out pretty good, but it's really going out with a whimper.

:lol guess they havent thought of that one yet somehow

I hate to say it, but I'm finding it harder to be pulled in by the show...
It's predictable.
The moles, traitors, or villains who are caputed by CTU, somehow get a deal, give the info that eventually doesn't even work out.
Jack gets something important (person, evidence) and everyone ignores him or someone screws him over.
Something crappy happens with the CTU boss.
The main villain is captured but gets sprung.
I could go on...
I'd have to say that the thing tonight with Martha and Pierce was THE freshest part about the show. Pierce rocks.
The roller coaster of the show is only good in the first half of the season, when there's still alot of mystery and potential. Now, however, I know to not get too worried about anything that happens, because Jack will kick ass in the end.
Just once, I'd like for something to go right. I want President Logan to be brought to full, public justice. I want Aaron and Martha to run off together. I want there to be a stone tablet at CTU that says "No matter what you think... always trust Jack Bauer."
Geez, doesn't ANYONE ever learn?

Probably the most laughable part of the entire season was when Chloe spouted out in her whiny voice, "NOT A PHOENIX SHIELD." My entire family and I burst out laughing.

Am I missing something? Did they really need the extra gas canister to take the sub. It seemed kind of funny to me that they dropped it in and wasted it. Maybe I'm wrong but I thought they were going to arm the missles with gas. Did I miss something?

Well, my weekly comments on the show...
Last night was, finally, a truly GOOD episode. Not amazing, not classic, but it definitely felt much more like an episode from the first three seasons than any of the last few episodes. So many of the episodes from the last 3-6 weeks have been too action-heavy, with not enough character development. The reason characters such as Michelle, Tony, Jack, David, Nina, Mason, etc, were so important to the audience is because of the so-called "sappy" scenes between them. I just don't feel the same way about Chloe, Bill, Audrey, or even Jack during this season. We really need a Kim appearance at the end of this season, or at least some more character-oriented scenes with Jack and Audrey. There just haven't been enough of those scenes that show all of the sides of the characters and make them seem more real and human.
Anyway, this week had a bit more of that, and the show benefitted. The scene with Martha and Aaron was excellent, with Martha continuing to walk toward the agent who was sent to kill Aaron. The interactions between Martha and Pierce were quite touching, and were very reminiscent of such scenes in season one or two. The scene between Logan and Pierce was also VERY good. The acting in that scene, particularly Itzin's, was excellent.
There was also some noticeably improved cinematography last night. The Jack and Henderson scene in the holding room, in particular, was very good. What happened to the boxes before the end, though...maybe I just forgot...but I didn't catch an initial ending with about 2 minutes of show left, then the boxes appearing, then the final ending. Didn't catch that initial ending with the boxes. Or it could've been after Bierko shot the submarine captain...can't remember.
The biggest problems with last night were mainly the plot holes that have been established in previous episodes. The fact that we haven't seen Wayne in 8 episodes, and that Kim appeared for about 3 episodes, and hasn't been seen again, it's just weak. Plus, the fact that Bierko's men can just go inside the sub with masks on, when nerve gas can penetrate the skin, as well. However, the saved canister was a good little twist, as it was actually plausible. I quite enjoyed the fact that CTU had to use Henderson, because that means we may see more of him in the future, and adds a very S2/3-ish characters-at-odds theme with Jack. Overall, though, this was a very solid episode, and truly felt like one of the classics from one of the first three seasons. Definitely not really up to that level--this season has too many plot holes--but this episode had a great balance of character development and interactions, twists, as well as some action.
The season, overall, has been pretty good, despite the numerous plot holes lately, and the fact that the previous 3-5 episodes have been seemingly made up as they've gone along (though last night's episode tied up some loose ends and seemed to be a very logical start to the finale). The last 10-12 or so episodes, however, despite the problems, have each had some great scenes, and a lot of the episodes have been very good despite the numerous problems. I think if the writers would just tone it down a bit and take on a bit smaller and conceivable plotline, one that isn't so filled with conspiracy, the show would be better off and would feel much more like the great episodes from S1-3.

it wouldnt have done enough damage for what bierko wanted to do, with the missile on the sub he has a lot more firepower

I got an interesting idea, at least I think:
In Jack's world, what do you think tomorrow's NY Times front page would look like?
A terrorist attack at an airport, the president's chief of staff commits suicide, a nerve gas attack at a mall, an entire natural gas facility explodes, the Russian president's motorcade is attacked with the First Lady inside, a highjacked diplomatic flight, a First Lady shoots a Secret Service agent, the president signs a peace treaty with Russia, the country's most secure facility is the subject of a nerve gas attack and other stuff.
How would all that fit on the front page?

Finished Season 4 a couple of weeks ago. I was hoping I'd be able to catch up for the season finale monday, but I'm only on roughly episode 8 (I'd seen through 9 or 10 back when they were originally aired, but stopped watching at that point to go back to Season 1, so I'm watching this season again). So it doesn't look like I'll make it :shrug
But I'll be back on track with everyone for season 6 and/or the movie!
Enjoy it everyone

Ah well, it kinda sucks, but just finding out doesn't compare to actually seeing the event. It's kind of like a method of suspense: you can show some guys at a table eating and talking and suddenly there's an explosion and everything blows up, or you can show the same guys at a table then pan down to a bomb ticking away underneath it. Heh, sorry that was some analogy a lit prof. used last semester.
But that was a damn sad ending. That and in season 2 when Jack was (planning on) flying the nuclear bomb out to the desert and he was saying goodbye for like 2-3 minutes with Kim were some of the saddest parts of the show IMO. In that one, I was :lorraine

Yeah, it sucks to learn about character deaths before seeing the episodes...I found out about numerous a character death from reading around on different boards...
**S1,2, 3 Spoilers below**
I definitely think the saddest moments on the show were, obviously, Jack finding Teri dead in S1, Jack on the plane talking to Kim and Jack and Mason on the plane in S2, Mason leaving CTU in S2, and Jack killing Chappelle in S3

LAME. LAME. LAME. LAME. They wait all the way until the very last second to bring back the Chinese (which should've been WAY before) and they now use it merely as a device to make the ending all surprising and supsenseful. YAWN. :rolleyes God the so often lazy writing on this show is migraine-inducing. I don't know why I keep subjecting myself to it.
Well, they did say earlier that the finale had the "shocker of the season". Admittedly when they said Kim was on the phone, I'd thought at first she'd be calling from wheever she'd been kidnapped.
And of cousre the news less than 2 months ago that Kiefer re-upped another 3 seasons doesn't exactly hold any suspense that he'll die from this newest predicament.

Wow. Just wow is all I can say. This season was amazing.
First off that neck break on Bierko....HARDCORE!
Jack giving Henderson a gun with no bullets, and pumping him 2 shots in him was awesome.
I didn't know what to expect when Logan and Jack were in that building. What if he caved? I was thinking that Jack wasn't going to be able to kill Logan.
The pen mic plant was great. Martha knew all along. That smile that she and Mike shot over to Logan as he was being taken away was priceless.
I knew the Kim phonecall was a fake. I think everyone saw that. Jack being taken away by the Chinese was a great way to end the episode. I know everyone is up in arms about the Chinese not showing up until the final second. But seriously think about it. The whole season takes place in 1 day. I mean the Chinese weren't going to show up in the first half of the season, because it would take that much time for them to find out Jack was still alive. I wonder if Logan contacted them, when he was talking to the bluetooth guys. He told them "He was taking care of Bauer."
Anyways another great season. Can't wait until Season 6.

I've been watching 24 since the very first airing of the first episode and that last hour left in my total shock. I loved it...the whole set up of Logan, the bogus interrogation, and then Martha getting him to confess. AMAZING. AMAZING. AMAZING. Now we're going to have a S6 where Jack is going to breaking out of a Chinese prison camp? That has the potential to be absolutely out of control!
You all can hate the end of the season all to want, to this rabid 24 fan it was amazing.

Exactly what I was thinking, however, someone within CTU or the government or whatever agents were on the case had to tip them off about where Jack was going to be. Because how would he be approached so swiftly and taken away so fast!?
Knowing he is alive is one thing, but knowing exactly where he was going to be even though Jack didn't know up until about 20 minutes left in the episode seems a little off to me.
Overall though, I'm definitely looking forward to next season, even though its a mind-boggling EIGHT months away! Bah! The preview thing at the end was WAAAAY better last year: YOU DON'T KNOW JACK! That had me pumped!!!

Okay, I'm still amazed. I dont know how people couldnt be happy with how that ended. But to each their own.
Jack cant have much left (probably why he asked to be shot) because hes been up for well over 24 hours now, and its not like he was lounging around. I cant imagine that the Chinese will give him a nice bed to sleep in, let him rest up, and tend to his wounds either. Should make for a pretty interesting escape attempt.

Man I'm sorry but some of you guys are way too easily impressed. And if you think the writing on this show is so good, then frankly I almost don't know what to say, the depth of other possible material for you all to watch to then see what truly good writing is. And yea I admit it, I've said for a long time now I'm probably the most critical person of this show for who's actually a fan of it, but I think I may finally be tired of it (especially if some of these other new impending shows next fall turn out to be as good as they're sounding, after all I don't like to have too many shows on my overall watch list, if new ones come one I'd like some old to move off).
And for Jack's "interrogation" scene of Logan, you HAD to know that was merely a setup for something, right? I mean was anyone really surprised by that? For one, you just know that despite Jack's being right essentially in a way that he "had nothing left to lose", there was no way on Earth he had any intention of actually killing Logan right there, so that was an empty threat. And so what, he went thru ALL that just to count to some melodramatic #3 and then wimp out, that he couldn't "bring himself to do it?" Of course not! The entire meeting was covering for something else, in this case being the swift planting of the recording device (& obviously it having to be on Logan, since Jack knew eventually Logan would suspect Martha and then immediately frisk her for something when they were alone).
And lordy, they musta paid Elisha Cuthbert a pretty penny to get her back for those 3 eps, because I know she was happy to have moved on, but there was very little point in bringing her back for what that amounted to be.

People have become too easily impressed for sure, and I've been critical of this season for a long time, but I think you've talked yourself out of liking the show. I was definitely surprised by some of the key events, as many others were, and I think these two episodes really redeemed much of the season, but were, in my opinion, in their own right, highly excellent. The last 4-5 weeks have shown me that the cinematography and careful cameral work is slowly coming back into play (Jack killing Henderson, shot of Martha from the backseat of the car Aaron was riding, some good angles and some good shots), and I think the plot really tightened up at the end of this one. Sure, the nerve gas was only in the sub for 5 minutes, and could've entered through the skin, but that stuff has been common throughout 24's entire run.
The last few episodes really tied things together, and there were many very good moments between Logan/Martha, Logan/Jack, and Jack/Henderson that seemed a lot more like the stuff they used to put in the show. And I don't know what's really wrong with the writing. I couldn't really find any laughable lines, and the dialogue was reminiscent of seasons 1-3. The only bad part: Morris' first scene with Chloe.
I mean, yeh, if you pay close attention, you can probably figure out that Jack's whole meeting with Logan is just a ploy, but when you're sitting there really enveloped in the show, that stuff just doesn't pass through my mind because I'm so involved.
The last scene before the last commercial break was one of the best moments in a very long time on 24, with Jack being captured, and nobody knowing what's going on, and the last scene was a bit reminiscent of S2, and was very good because it showed that Jack isn't invincible...I almost think they could've ended the series right there with killing Jack.
These episodes did a very nice job of setting up the next few seasons, as well....definitely did a nice job of wrapping up some of the characters and providing some nice moments between Jack and Audrey, Aaron and Martha, and Bill and Karen. They simply MUST bring back Kim, however. The biggest flaw of the season is that they brought her in for a weak 3-ep arc that had no point at all. The only way to get rid of her character is to kill her off, and if Elisha Cuthbert doesn't want to be a part of the show, then work her back in and kill her off...
Honestly, I'm not easily pleased, but I think that these last few episodes have really redeemed my faith in the series, and definitely redeemed S5 a bit, as well. I really can't wait to see it again on DVD to be able to tell how I really feel about it as it compares with the others.

I thought the episode where Edgar died, they mentioned that the nerve gas doesn't effect you through skin. Remember Jack had to hold his breath crwaling through the walls, but his skin was exposed.

I concur on both of those points. I was so into the episode I was really thinking about what was going to happen. I also think the perfect way to end the series could have been killing Jack right then and there. I mean sure, you wouldn't resolve some points, but killing Jack Bauer would stick with you.

A couple questions to ponder:
1) How much time will elapse b/w this season and next? B/w 4 and 5 was 18 months. And previous to that I believe the gap at one point b/w seasons was 2 or 3 years. What do they go with next?
2) What will Audrey's role be? I read somewhere that Kim Raver had signed on to a new series so her role must be limited next season. Maybe that will tie in to the time gap in the show?
Some things to think about for next season. As far as ranking this season, its hard to say. I'd say 4th or 3rd at best. Season 2 was my favorite very closely followed by Season 1.

I thought it would be cool to be the next day but I can't see that keeping up for an entire 24 episodes.
They are probably going to be building a lot of new characters with all the deaths this season so wouldn't be too hard to give Audrey a limited role.

You are partially right, nothing would have happened, therefor having a mic on Martha would have been irrelevant anyways. She had to make a scene in order for them to begin arguing where Logan proceeded to admit to everything.
