This is something that's always bothered me. What ever happened to Evelyn and her daughter when Henderson found them in the hotel room? Are we to assume they killed them? Maybe I missed something.

Tit! Oh, mommy. Most Indians would say "cow" because they are sacred, but I hear "milk," I think giant jugs. You see, I cannot go home a virgin. I came here to study the great American art of muff diving. To smack clam, munch rug, dine at just one American pink taco stand! You know, I wanted to, how is it, park the porpoise. You know? I want to take it through the car wash, baby. And get it waxed. I want to wax it. Wax it! You know, and air dry. Air dry that shit, yeah! And I would like to be your assistant very much, Mr. Van Wilder.

Ok, so I am officially hooked. I can't believe it took me this long to finally start watching it.
I was lost in a few aspects... I was hoping someone could catch me up to speed.
-Why was Jack in Chinese prison?
-What happened exactly to David Palmer? I know he was involved in some sort of scandal, but I don't know what happened.
-Why is his brother President? And early in the show tonight, when Buchannen told Jack that Palmer was President, Jack seemed surprised. Was there a different president in between the brothers?
Sorry for the questions, I was just a little lost.

1) 2 Seasons ago, Jack led a mission that invaded a Chinese Embassy and resulted in many deaths. It was supposed to be secret but the Chinese found out he was behind it. He faked his own death so they couldn't arrest him. The next season (last season) he came back and the Chinese found out he was still alive, so in the last season finale the Chinese captured him in a cliff hanger.
2) David Palmer got assassinated last season.
3) His brother won the presidency. There were different prez's in between, but the election happened while Jack was locked up so he had no way of knowing that Wayne won

Thanks so much. That helps a lot.
So all in all, how many years has "24" been going on? They said Jack was locked up for 20 months, so that would only mean 1 year and 8 months, obviously not long enough for a presedential term.
I basically am just not getting the chronology of the presidency on the show.

From what I've read (nothing specific, just reviews) things are going to get really good tomorrow :D
I kind of like that it started off slow. It feels like they're building up to all the good stuff, instead of having all the big stuff happen in the beginning and the end of the season is kind of boring, like S2 or S4.
And Jack eating the guy's neck was insane :twenty4

No kidding! I went to read the Drudge and there's a bigass headliner about 24! I started reading it until I realized it contains this season's plot details and I had to close it out. :( I can't stand when news sites do that!
So how many viewers do you think? 20m?

Totally agree. As much as I love the show, I miss Day 1's pace. Sure, there wasn't as much action, but when the plot twists hit, it literally gave you chills. I don't mind it at all if they take their time to build some things up. I loved it. And of course, last night was a giant setup for tonight's premier finale. :)

S1 > S2: 1 year
S2 > S3: roughly 3 years (Palmer was up for relection at the end of S3)
S3 > S4: ~18 months
S4 > S5: 6-8 months, it's never really said
S5 > S6: 20 months
so about 7 1/2-8 years have gone by from S1 to the current point in the storyline

One thing for sure about last night's episodes was that Callery is still doing an amazing job with the score. With two minutes to go in S6.2, when the screen collage is happening, it just made me smile and turn the volume up that little bit more.
It would be impossible for S6 to start off with as much wallop as S5 did. All I know is that tonight's episodes are supposed to be insanely good. I have made every effort to avoid knowing anything, which makes me even more excited.

I hope nadia isn't a mole.. that would be a weak plot twist. the president's sister's husband got me suspicious too.
the only thing that bothered me about these episodes was when jack kicked the guy out of the train.. you'd have to kick a guy pretty dang hard to make them go through that glass/plexiglas, whatever it is.
on the other hand I think it's pretty cool that jack is working WITH the terrorist in a way this time.

Greatest use of that (music combined with split screens) ever has to be S1.10 - when Jack picks up Cofell in his limo and as the ep is ending Cofell realizes it's not his regular driver.
Wow.

So how many viewers do you think? 20m?
The end of the Patriots-Chargers game and "60 Minutes" kept CBS in the lead at 8 p.m. with a 15.3/22. The season premiere of "24" earned an 8.4/12 in its first hour. "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," 6.6/10, kept ABC in third, ahead of "Grease: You're the One That I Want," 4.9/7, on NBC. The CW held steady with "7th Heaven."
At 9 p.m., ABC's "Desperate Housewives" won the hour with a 10.6/15 but was down some from its season average. CBS averaged 9.8/14 with "60 Minutes" and "Cold Case," but "24," 9.1/13, had more viewers. "The Apprentice" suffered in the face of heavy competition, scoring a 4.7/7. The CW ended its night with a "Beauty and the Geek" repeat.
Roughly 10-11 million viewers spread over the two hours.

Never watched 24 before last night. I was highly impressed. I then couldn't wait and went online to watch tonight's episodes. I also watched part of 5. Not going to do that anymore though. It seems more fun to be in the dark. You get to speculate all week. How history laden is 24? Should I go rent previous seasons so I'll understand more? Or is that necessary?

It's massively deep. Not starting from the beginning will be somewhat of a problem, but there are enough storylines that are long gone so recent stuff doesn't give the whole story away. You WILL appreciate this show, its characters, and the actors who portray them much more if you start from the beginning, for sure.

:lol Well if I'd had the time, I would've done the decorating myself (have some prior cake-decorating experience). But I had it done at a grocery store. I gave them a picture of the 24 and they told me they could replicate it pretty well, but it looked mediocre when I got it. I bought some black decorating gel and picked off some of the edges of the letters and stuff to make it look more digital

Last night was good, but nothing mindblowing like last season. Best parts were Jack going Dracula on that guy's neck and Jack and the suicide bomber on the train. I have a feeling they saved the mindblowing stuff for tonight.
I got a Jack Bauer 24 poster for my girlfriend for Xmas and long story short, it arrived late and I was finally able to give it to her last night when she came over for the premiere. She literally opened it right as the show was starting, perfect timing. Absolutely loved it btw. Jack Bauer and Dave Matthews are the only 2 people I allow her to have a crush on.

I thought the first hour was semi-weak. A lot of fluff without much attention to detail. The guard letting the terrorist go was just so predictable and lame. The last 25 minutes saved the entire two hours in my opinion and have set the tone for the rest of the season. I anticipated the nuke going off and now that Jack gets his mojo back he will be on a tear.
Next week he takes on one of the Bluetooth mafia from S5

So the white FBI agent - I totally know him from somewhere but cannot find him anywhere on IMDB in any of the four episodes so far.

As for Curtis, it was the episode index on the main Fox page that let me know for sure what happened to Tony in Season 5. They haven't updated the episode guide yet, but you'll probably know for sure tomorrow whether or not Curtis is dead. I didn't think there was any question about it.
I remember watching season one also. I dont even know why i wanted to watch it but have been hooked since day 1.
That's the main reason why I'm so excited Fox has announced 24 Season 1 on Blu-ray. Season 1 is the only DVD set that didn't have a 5.1 mix, now we're going to get a 1080p high def 5.1 set of it. I know I'll rewatch it for sure.

Damn, Curtis was such a good character...but damn this season is starting off VERY well. I'm afraid they writers may sink back into their old ways of making things bigger and bigger like the end of last year...I think it's pretty obvious that Jack is going to come back and help find the other bombs after this whole ordeal, but that's my only complaint so far. The dialogue and level of acting have been up to par and even surpassed last season's high standards, the stuff between Curtis and Jack leading up to the finale of tonight's episodes was very tense and very, very good. Wish they wouldn't kill off Curtis, but they probably have to do it. Overall, I really like that they brought back the actor who plays Milo, and although Morris is a bit annoying I don't think there's much to complain about so far. Love the dark way this season is starting out.

I just love how this season has shown the human side of Jack, rather than portraying him as Superman. It has really added to his character development, which I felt was impossible to improve beyond its already high level. These last 2 nights have made me realize how much I missed this show. The second hour tonight may have been one of the best episodes I've ever seen.

Jack enters the clinic and finds Tony and Burke on the ground. Gasping his last breath of life, Tony tells Jack that he couldn’t do it. Jack clutches Tony’s head. Tony dies, and Jack cries with him still in his arms.

I just watched the first four hours finally. At first I really wasnt impressed and was getting a little ticked off. Jack getting away was pretty lame and not dramatic even though he did go vampire on that guy. Taj, really shouldnt have played a terrorist in my opinion. My friend told me something crazy was going to happen at the end. I had a feeling curtis was done with the show this year after being on hiatus during some episodes of last season.
But holly hell, Jack killing him really shocked the shit out of me and it seems like he has been through enough. I dont think we will see Mr. Bauer after this season.
And the ending with the nuke. That was the best TV i have seen in years. I was floored. The music, the look on Jack's face was brilliant. This season is going to be right near the top. Wow..

don't forget a shocking David Palmer death in the first minute of last season followed by Michelle. but they do cast well. They were saying in the E true holllywood story about 24 that when a character gets really popular they like to kill them off! They are really cruel over there at fox
Curtis was more of an impact. Him and Jack go way back. It was totally unexpected. Palmer has was targeted in season one, edgar was a fan favorite, but really not a big character. Curtis on the other hand was completly shocking and Jack killing him iced the cake.
I hope the writers pulled out all the stops this year, so far, its A+++

See I totally disagree. Previous attempt on Palmer's life or not, who could have expected that within the first 3 minutes of a season you'd see Palmer get hit? That was devestating to watch. Curtis had an attitude towards Assad the entire episode, so you knew something was going to happen. So in that aspect, it wasn't totally out of left field. Still surprising, though.

During Season 5 he signed on with Fox for at least 3 more seasons as Jack Bauer. [That'd be Day 6, Day 7, Day 8] That doesn't mean that he'll still be alive (nothing's guaranteed in this show.) Here's something interesting:

I can see where you were comming from, but seing Jack the way he was after he shot Curtis was the most vulnerable we have seen him as of yet in his 6 days. Then that nuke going off right after was just brilliant writing. Not once have we had a wide scale terrorist attack take place that is going to kill 100s of thousands. How the hell is jack going to deal with that?

If you're referring to me I didn't neglect that one at all.
For me the top four most disturbing and/or saddening episodes so far have been
#1 - S3.18 (Chappelle/Train Yard)
#2 - S5.1 (David Palmer)
#3 - S1.24 (Teri Bauer)
#4 - S6.4 (Curtis/Nuclear)
#5 - S2.15 (George Mason's sacrifice)
To me Palmer's death was the most saddening but not the most disturbing. S3.18 is the only episode that's ever left me totally numb and seriously disturbed. S3.18 is, without question, the most disturbing episode 24 has EVER done, regardless of how you felt about Ryan Chappelle.

I totally agree. I was sick to my stomach when I watched that episode. Just the way the whole thing went down, it was unbelievable. I still can't believe I've been watching this show since I was a senior in high school and now I've graduated college...man, how time flies...:rolleyes

That was the fork in the road for the show overall. Up until the execution of Ryan Chappelle, Jack was still a guy (character) who would, yes, do bad/unorthodox/illegal things but it was always in the best intention and for the best outcome. He always used antogonists (terrorists/accomplices) to reach the ends of his means. Jack had awful things happen to him through his backstory and after Teri's death and such. But the killing of Ryan Chappelle is when his character, and essentially the show, diverged from the "do-ers of good do what it takes to protect all that is good" to the dark twisted side of it all; to the dark, twisted and anguished side of Jack Bauer. No longer was he a man that had boundaries for his acts or a man that never went outside the boundaries of protecting the innocent and only exploiting the bad. The murder of Ryan Chappelle is how we've gotten to the Jack we see today. The Jack that broke down in the final moments of Season 3, the Jack that had barely a reaction to the death of Paul Raines, the Jack that had no qualms about kidnapping the President, the office he gave his life to protect. The Jack Bauer we saw expose himself in the final 20 minutes of the 4th hour of Season 6. The murder of Ryan Chappelle is what showed that ALL bets were off in 24 and that anything could happen and anyone could be used to justify the means to the end.

Damn...this is the episode of season 3 I am about to watch. I hate the guy to be honest. I cant stand him or Sherry Palmer.
I was more angry with Palmer's death than anything. He was a kick ass prez. His brother seems like a little bitch to me after watchign the first 4 hours of season 6. He just isnt an intimidating figure that David was. And their sister, is really getting on my nerves with her whole lawyer act.
Also, I dont like the people who are running CTU. They dont seem like the people who should be running it. And Taj, being a terroist was very laughable.

I think Jack saying "don't tell Audrey or Kim that I'm back" was the writers putting away any hope of their return. I do not expect either back. Though, maybe, MAYBE Audrey makes a brief return very late in the season. Kim, forget about her. It's over.

I agree....but I really think the start to this was at the beginning of S3. That was definitely the darkest of all of the seasons, and it began right at the start. I mean, they started the season off with Jack's heroin addiction, Jack starting the prison riot...I mean, yeah, they were already breaking the boundaries even before Chappelle's death...That was an extremely gutsy season, and although some stuff fell flat (as always in 24), the good stuff was some of the best they've ever done. I mean, holy shit, what a season.

true...the H addiction, the roulette in the prison, knocking out Chase, etc all those things where signs. But the execution of Chappelle was really the point of divergence.

Agreed on both counts. All of that really led up to the killing of Chappelle, and then cutting off Chase's hand and Jack's breakdown that ended the season.

This is most likely true, but in the context of the story, wouldn't you think word would somehow get to Audrey and/or Kim that Jack was helping CTU once again. I mean it didn't take long for the Chinese to somehow figure out Jack was alive, but then again Audrey or Kim don't have those kinds of resources. Then again, Audrey does, working for the Department of Defense...so, who knows?

Yeah, that could be true...that wasn't disclosed though right? Maybe that will surface later in the season...
I read that both President Logan and Mrs. Logan are due back mid-way through the season, so maybe that will be part of it? Jack goes to talk to the ex-President and asks him if he sold him out? Could be...

It's funny how Season 3 is considered one of the betters, now. I too think it's one of the better ones, but somewhere in the middle of that season I started to feel very un-24-like when watching it. The whole Mexico stretch was very odd to me.
However, the last 8 episodes of that season are as strong as any other 8 during the entire series. Saunders was a great villain.
My ranking?
1 - Drama perfection. You can't get better than the first half (Gaines) of this season, and when the Drazens come into it - it just gets deeper.
2 - You saw who some characters really were in this one; and I loved the cliffhanger ending. I still get chills watching it.
3 - Probably the most balls-out sprint ending of them all. And awesome. Incredibly dark, but in hindsight, a nice departure from the norm.
5 - Logan was one of my favorite characters yet, and the story was gripping and had tons of awesome twists.
4 - Didn't like the one main villain (Marwan) aspect, although I loved the return of Mandy!

Aaaaand how. My only problem is this: I KNOW once this show goes off the air (whenever that is, 3-4 years?) they will do a super-duper extreme box set with every season for like $250-300, which will of course make the per season price MUCH lower than each individual season. I already own seasons 1 and 2 but I bought those when they first came out. I'm very hesitant to buy anymore seasons because I know once the show ends and all the individual seasons are released, they're going to release some amazing box set worth every penny.
But then again, not everybody is DVD freak like me, so for now, go nuts and buy Season 1. :)

My own personal prediction for much later in the season...It's pretty major, so I'd advise you stay away from reading it if you really don't want to have even the slightest clue of what may happen.
I sense that Wayne Palmer will come out of his shell and become a really good President. There was an interview with the actor who plays Buchanan and he said there is a huge shocker that's lined up for pretty late in the season. I'm calling now that Palmer will make a very good speech to the American people, and then when the speech is done, he'll get assassinated. The series has not yet had an assassination of a President while still in office. Remember that Keeler did live in Season 4.

just finished watching season 3. This was the only season i missed. I had a ton of stuff to do my senior year of HS and couldnt catch the show that often, but I must say it was the deepest of all the seasons and the darkest. I loved the idea of the bio-terror, and the story line was very good. I didnt get bored the entire 6 discs. I also think it was the first season where we saw jack so vulnerable. The ending where is was breaking down and just went right back to CTU was that point. I also think we learned a lot from the characters and Chloe being introduced was great. Her character from season 4-5 change drastically. On to season 4.

If anyone has season 4 on dvd please watch the Season 4 prequel. There is one line right at the beginning that may be the best of Jack in the entire 5 seasons.
Jack is called into the office and is fired. Erin Driscole offers to find him a position. Jack goes, "I can find my own fucking job Erin," and walks out of the office. That shit is classic. Too bad it was never seen on tv.
