He was trying to cover up the death of President Palmer. I think he was involved with the russians or someone to get the US involved in a oil war. Palmer knew too much and they had to kill him.

Yes, but that includes foreplay and after-sum spooning.
Jack's idea of foreplay is choking and perhaps a stab wound or two to the shoulder area. Given what Renee went through with the Russians he probably skipped the foreplay.
Maybe that was before 24 got cancelled so they may have gone a dif route? idk
Anyway I was thinking for the shows case it was classic 24 that Renee died. It kind of goes full circle with Terri in season 1 and Renee in the final season. The writers got this right and set up for a badass finish. I agree that Jack should die as well but the movie may stop that but I do like the past idea because then Tony can be in it!!!
That would be cool, Tony, Nina Myers, Mason, Chase, Ryan Chappelle, would be cool if they all made an appearance. I have a funny feeling that S8.24 is going to set-up the movie though and not go into the past. Perhaps a 2nd movie might be able to tackle that perspective?

I wonder if David's brother, Wayne Palmer ever came out of his coma. Hell, even Audrey Reines was last seen chillin' in her bed half dead in a coma too. I assume Aaron Pierce retired from the Government, Your bolded characters are a very much dead, and not in the Tony "Who can secretly come back dead" dead.
Chase was pretty one and done, he served his purpose. No reason to bring him back other than to see his hook of a hand and have him hit on Kim, which would be an epic fail because that was unofficially in 24 time like 10-12 years ago and Kim is married now. I'm surprised we haven't seen Chloe's husband yet. Good thing, he is very annoying...
Mandy, the chick who blew up the plane in season 1 and burned Palmer's hand never died when she popped up in Day 4. Would be pretty cool to see her working for the Russian's now since she is basically a hired assassin. I just can't think of anyone else from the past worth bringing back that didn't have somewhat closure. Tony would be awesome and all but he got a pretty good season last year, and had closure (prison).
I really wish we could have a movie that takes place between Day 1 (end) and Day 3 (beginning) just to get more David Palmer action while he was in office. That man was a mother fuckin' stud. I miss Dennis Haysbert's acting so much.
I really wish there was another "day" season. It would help round out the 24 trilogy.
Trilogy
Part I: Sacrifice
~Consisting of Jack sacrificing himself for everything; his wife, his relationship with his Kim, for America's greater good, etc... This also contains the whole Nina "cunt" Meyers arc. Also, The whole storyline of President David Palmer's inauguration and stay in office.
- Day 1
- Day 2
- Day 3
Part II: Judgment
~Jack looses his soul as a father and agent. Everyone who Jack meets or cares for ends up dying. This also contains the fall of America, because Wayne Palmer was overturned as a President (wasn't even half the man of his brother). Plus, Logan totally pissed all over America as a country by pulling what he did. CTU constantly failed, a lot of moles, and dumb shit that resulted in CTU being destroyed.
- Day 4
- Day 5
- Day 6
Part III: Redemption
This final part was very much based on redemption, for not only with Jack for his daughter Kim but for America as a whole such with President Taylor trying her best to redeem the Presidency post President Logan and many other 24 characters such as Tony, even though it wasn't legal he did get redemption for Michelle. Even CTU has returned, even though they haven't done so well this year, haha...
- 24: Redemption (TV Movie)
- Day 7
- Day 8
- Day 9? (I would love to happen, but it is very unlikely now since the show has been canceled by Fox.)
- 24: Jack Bauer (Cinema Movie)

Yeah i thought it was necessary for the show that they killed Renee. It showed 24 had some balls and just pulled the trigger on the idea (pun intended).
Also i think if tony made some type of appearence that would be great...even from a jail cell. maybe he knows some info about the russians.
Side note... i'm digging that the writers are setting Jack up to just go badass on people. They figured it would be the best way to end the show.
Also did the writers know this was the last season when writing? Or did they kinda figure it? i'm sure if it wasn't the story may have gone a different direction.

Your bolded characters are a very much dead, and not in the Tony "Who can secretly come back dead" dead.
That is why I mentioned them with regards to doing a 24 movie that is set in the past, not in the present or future.
As for Mandy, they could make a Mandy-centric movie and I'd be all over it, discovering her journey through life and what made her who she is, her first lesbian experiences, her paratrooper training, bomb handling school...that would be a wicked flick.

As far as Renee getting killed goes, I get the impression that they knew they were going to kill her off. In an article in People magazine she said she knew since the beginning of the season (I assume she meant the beginning of filming it) that they wanted to kill her off after she and jack got serious.
"They wanted him to be in a good place with her and have that happen to her and have that be the catalyst to send him off completely on a bloodbath!"
Also, kind of funny and ironic, she found out she was pregnant the day after filming the love scenes (filmed in December).
Here's a copy of the interview (the interview in the hardcopy of the magazine was worded a little differently, but said the same thing):

Great episode tonight.
As far as writers knowing it was the last season, the only thing that would really matter is the final 2 episodes (cliff hangers, etc.) and they knew the show was ending before they filmed the final episodes. Renee dying was planned before they officially knew the show was ending though.

04-20-2010, 12:16 AM
There was a bunch of stuff that was great tonight, particularly the scene with Jack and the Russian, the scene with Logan and the other Russian and pretty much anything else with Logan involved. Taylor's actions tonight pretty much went against everything she's stood for over the past two seasons regarding taking a hard stand against terrorists, and that really soured me on the episode. Another thing that bugged me is that there are essentially no subplots even on the radar right now, and as a result people are getting around Manhattan in record time, even for 24.
haasem99
04-20-2010, 08:27 AM
^I agree with your comment regarding Taylor's actions. I'm surprised she did what she did and it seemed to me she was a little brainwashed by what Logan said. And I do hate the fact that everyone is getting from place to place in a few minutes. Jack at the hospital, courthouse and then CTU in all under 30 minutes. I don't think so.
Question because I'm drawing a blank here, has President Taylor and Jack ever met before, face to face??

I imagined Chloe on the walkie talking to Jack saying, "Jack, it's Chole. I need you to land the chopper. I just got this job! DON'T FUCK THIS UP FOR ME!"
DaveMB36
04-20-2010, 02:22 PM
The only thing that bothered me about this past episode was how easily jack took the chopper. I know he had to but i can only imagine in an other case the dudes would just shoot the highjacker. Besides that i thought it was great and Logan is a pretty awesome character. Pres Taylor and Logan in the same scene was especially awesome because i think those are the two best President "characters" in 24 (except Palmer of course)
"Jack, it's President Taylor. First, thanks again for saving my life when I was taken hostage in the White House. That was awesome. Now, I know that everything in your personel file says that you're always right, but this time we're going to let the Ruskies get away with murder so I can get my face on a bill on day. kthxbye."

president taylor is being so stubborn right now. or rather, she's always been stubborn but now its finally starting to prove harmful to her country. it seems that right now the ONE thing the russians want is for dana to keep quiet and taylor is handing that right to them. her desire to maintain her image seems to be the only thing motivating her at this point. oh, and i feel sooooo bad for chloe. you could tell she was just torn between helping jack or standing by the responsibilities of her new job. poor chloe...

So there are 5 episodes left. Haven't they been doing the finales like they have the premieres? 2 nights of 2 hours each? If so then we'd just have next week a regular episode then the following week would be finale week! Otherwise they've just done one night 2 hours, which means 4 more weeks.

Ausiello: The May 24 series finale will find Jack squaring off against his most formidable adversary yet: Chloe! “Chloe and Jack are in a real face-off,” reveals executive producer Howard Gordon. “And Chloe has to decide between her duty [as head of CTU] and her friendship and allegiance to Jack. Their relationship gets put to the test in a way it’s never been tested before. It’s a collision course that culminates in the finale. It’s about as hairy a confrontation as you can possibly imagine, and it’s a nearly lethal one.” Playing those scenes was “really fun” and “very emotional,” says Mary Lynn Rajskub. “[It's] kind of crazy…what happens between Jack and Chloe. I’ve never done anything like that.”
That sounds interesting, and exciting!

I think 1~3 could be the best first three seasons of any show all-time. 3 is my personal favourite because the last 6 hours were just balls out the best 6 hours of TV I've ever seen, but 2 might be my overall favourite to watch from start to finish.

Okay, time for your opinions. Do you think Mary Lynn Rajskub (Chloe) is a good actress on 24? My friend and I were debating this. I don't mind her at all and think her quirkiness just completes her character. My friend thinks she's a horrible actress and her quirkiness and the things she says is the result of her being a bad actress. I got the impression that he couldn't stand her, and that surprised me, since she's been one of my favorite characters.

me and the people i watch with actually had this exact conversation this week and couldnt decide whether she was a bad actress or if chole is intentionally a very awkward character and rajskub does a fantastic job at pulling off the "quirkiness" as you said

Finally just watched this week's episode. MAN this is the most excited I've been all season I think. I don't know what it was, but something about parts of this episode, mostly scenes with Jack, made me think of past seasons and types of events. Jack not giving a shit about the rules and the rights of prisoners/witnesses? Of course he hasn't gone too far, he cut off that one guy's head in, what, season 2? This is classic Bauer, he's just been pushed too far.
I fuckin' knew he was gonna blast Dana. I kinda thought it would be more like she puts the card down, stands up and quickly starts to say something like "Jack, wait! We can -- " :twenty4 boom! But I like the way they played it instead, showed that he's really troubled by everything today and out for some shit. That was just like when he blew Nina away. And yeah, I was pretty excited to have Dana finally gone. Too bad it took this long.

I love the new Bauer as well. I said after the season 6 finale (when Jack lashed outer at Heller because he felt abandoned despite all he sacrificed for his country) that the writers should explore a "evil/villian" side of Bauer more explicity. All the shit he has gone through, it was inevitable that he would lose it. I know some people may not like it, but to have the show wrap up with Bauer saving the world one more time would have been utterly boring and cliched.

Ugh, I hate people arguing with me about the show when they don't know the basic concepts. This person was bitching about how Jack going off the deep end after Renee dying was ridiculous and that the writers suck because he didn't go off the deep end when he lost Audrey and that he's only known Renee for 40 hours. I had to sit there and explain that the seasons don't run on consecutive days. Then I had to explain how that's exactly why he's finally snapped, because he's lost so much that he's finally reached his breaking point.
If you're gonna try to argue/discuss the show, at least know what you're talking about. :BANG

What, are you sure? She was introduced in S7 for the first time and was in the FBI, very straight-laced, by the book. Throughout her relationship with Jack, she learned to be a badass and bend the rules and was doing things out of her comfort zone by the end of that season.
This season, they kept talking about all the shit she'd been through and how much she'd changed during her time undercover. I figured that meant all that had happened since the end of S7. I could be wrong, I just don't know why she'd be all messed up mentally before S7, when we met her and she was so normal.

Maybe Jack brought back the crazy she was repressing?

Nevermind, you're right. According to wiki, her undercover gig was six years prior to Season 8.
But she definitely got a lot *darker* between S7 and 8.

I'm thinking a lot of people die. Taylor will resign and Logan's dealings will be known. What i'm really hoping for is for Tony to some how get involved in the finale. He was such an important character in the series, it would seem right for him to be in the finale. Just kinda hard to see how they could do that

There really isn't anyone who I would care about dying on the show besides Jack and Chloe, and neither of them die.
I could careless if anyone else dies. It would be interesting to see if Logan or the President dies.
Will Tony return? I'm thinking probably not.
Will we see Kim for one last time?

I'll probably be a tad disappointed. I've always pictured that as the best way of going out. And besides a movie will be dumb. I won't see it.
And thanks for ruining the ending :twenty4:twenty4:twenty4*

The first hour will be a recap of events the 2nd hour is like the TV show

The series is stale enough. They can't do anything in a movie that they haven't done already. You wouldn't have any new character development even though they need characters. It'd be a boring movie that wouldn't be very successful. Plus I always would rather have TV shows stand on their own.

On why 24 will work as a movie:
Why will it work in a film format? Excitement. When I watch 24, I already feel like I’m watching a film. It’s a lot more exciting, it feels like a film. There’s so much going on, and it was really groundbreaking in the filming of it.... How are they going to make into a film? I have no idea and I have not talked to anyone about that. I know that Kiefer is really excited and I did an interview for Extra TV yesterday and they told me that Kiefer told them that there were three movies and they’re planning on three.
On whether Chloe will be in the movie(s):
Well I hope so, for gosh sake. I’ve not heard much but I’m very much hoping that I will be involved. I think that could be very interesting to see how that happens… I always get my news from what has already been said in the press. In that regard, I’m sure you guys know more than me so please let me know if you hear that I’m in the movie. Please call me. At home. Any time. Day or night.
Three movies? Wow

also, the first episode starts at 8, ends at 10 that equals 18!

They'll realize how little money they make after the first one and then either not make more (I think Kiefer is talking out of his ass here) or they go straight to DVD. They are over-estimating this show. The more stuff they make, the more irrelevant it becomes. This how was treading water until the last 5 episodes or so.

Obviously they're two completely different shows, but I'm kind of pissed that Lost and 24 are concluding on back-to-back nights. Lost's finale (in my opinion) was great and now I have really high expectations for 24 and I'm just hoping that it lives up to them.

decent ending. the whole chloe having to leave jack part was well done, but i feel like i would have only really been satisfied with complete closure to the series, ie. jack MOST LIKELY dying. idk, i just think that this would have been a good season finale, but it didnt just feel right as the ending to the entire series.
