technically, it isn't. there are going to be multiple movies to come.

Or at least one movie. And with the way it was ended with the Russians and the Americans hunting Jack down...can't wait to see how they put it together in a two hour movie.

I an very happy with the way it ended, I'm just very sad to see it go.

Here's an interview with executive producer Howard Gordon. Most upsetting thing for me:

Will it [the movie] be a prequel?
It definitely will not be a prequel.

Glad it won't be a prequel. I hate prequels.

Multiple?

Yes? Keifer confirmed they are doing 3 movies.

Not sure if some will be DVD only, TV specials (doubt it), or all in theaters

All we know for now is the first one, due out 2011 will be in theaters. I guess depending on the success of it will determine if the next ones come in theaters.

Also, do you think the movie will be PG-13 or R?

The movie is most likely not going to be a "Blockbuster" hit, so will they try to get as much money as possible (PG-13) or try something new (R)?

I think they should just go for R. There doesn't need to be a bunch of "fucks" and sex. Occasionally it is fine, but I think it would be cool sometimes to see a bit more of the torture and violence that would warrant a R rating.

Man, that was good. So many fist-pumping moments, "oh shit!"s and I cried like a baby.

I liked throwing in the "Events occur in real time" at the beginnings.

Also, at the end, with Jack talking to Chloe and looking at the drone camera, I couldn't help but laugh thinking it should end with Jack saying, "oh, and in case I don't see ya... good afternoon, good evening and goodnight" :lol

My DVR shit the bed last night, so I just finished the finale now, and am shocked that everyone seemed to love the finale. It felt so much like a season finale rather than a series finale, and even as a season finale we've already seen Jack's best friends help him get away as the clock ticks down to end Season 4.

Sure there will be a final closing to Jack's story in one or more movies, but they seriously dropped the ball on the ending to the real-time format that we'd never seen before and likely never will again at the expense of the movies. Yes, it was a really nice moment between Jack and Chloe at the end, but 24 wasn't a show built on or at it's best with really nice moments. It's disappointing that they chose to wrap up the TV series that way.

fucking awesome!!

And to those wondering about the movie, It is supposed to be 2 hours

the first hour will be your standard movie (aka not taking place in real time)

the climax/final 60 minutes is supposed to be like the show, in real time.

I like that idea. Set it up with the ability to have lots of back story and all the stuff you'd normally do in 12-15 episodes. Kind of like taking the highlights of the first half of a season, then switching to the real-time format when all the shit actually starts to go down.

I just watched 2 episodes somewhere in the middle of S1, since I knew I had watched part of it about a year ago. I may or may not find the time to watch em all again, but I definitely enjoyed it. One thing I completely forgot about was the old intro they did occasionally

"Right now, terrorists are plotting to assassinate presidential candidate David Palmer. My teenage daughter is missing, and people I work with may be involved in both. I'm federal agent Jack Bauer, and today is going to be the longest day of my life" :lol

Believe it or not I just watched the finale a little while ago. I thought it was pretty good. Definitely left it open for a movie. Ray Charles could see what was going to happen to Todd McShay Piller at the end. And Charles is dead. And blind. I liked the Madame President actress in last year but wasn't as big a fan this year. They should do a movie once a year because it'll be cheap to shoot and will make money both in theatres and on DVD for at least the next few years.

No, it won't. Not enough to justify it. People were sick of 24 in the midst of this season. They're going to try a movie, but it will flop.

It was expensive to shoot for TV, but if they can keep costs low for a movie, they can make their $$$ back on DVD sales alone. Yes, the writing was not great this season, in fact mind-numbing at times, but it still did well in the top 25 just about every week this year in the Nielsen ratings. It has a built-in audience and the first movie they do will make money. Don't kid yourself. And if they can keep the costs low, a 2nd movie with international rights and DVD distribution would be able to turn a profit as well.

Question: I was curious if you had any information on the 24 movie. Will it be going into production soon? —Brandon
Ausiello: Based on the following status report from Rajskub, I’m guessing the answer is no. “I don’t know what’s going on with it,” she says. “Everybody asks me about it, but I don’t know anything. I think it would be great if it happened a year after the show went off the air, but I haven’t heard anything.”

I finally got back into watching Season 2 again with netflix instant, and this was a good season.

I just finished the episode where they detonate the nuke. The part where Jack says his goodbye to Kim always gets me. And the scene where the bomb goes off, and they show Jack watching it, then the President watching it, then Kim watching it, that was a very powerful moment. Looking forward to the 2nd half of the season, being that I've largely forgot how they went :lol

Also laughed out loud when I saw the military general talking to Palmer on Air Force One was Hank from Breaking Bad

I was trying to catch up cuz everything except season 8 is on netflix instant, but i couldn't remember where I left off. I always watched beginning of seasons then got sidetracked and lost interest. I ended up starting with season 5 (the nerve gas season), and man I forgot how awesome this show is. It's completely batshit crazy and unbelievable, but it's damn good entertainment. They just revealed Logan as the traitor, not the VP. I love how after they reveal who is bad or who is good the next episode their personality completely changes :lol. After they reveal Logan as the man giving Henderson orders, the next episode he immediately starts doing sketchy things like calling for Jack's arrest. And the original suspect, the VP, who did shit like ordering for martial law, questions the Prez and says how Jack should be a hero. I can't get enough of it. I've blown through 16 episodes in like 5 days. Basically all my tv watching has been 24 lately.

Same deal with me, there was a few times when I was gonna rewatch the past seasons with a friend, or the girlfriend, and they kinda lost interest so it was hard for me to stay into it. I'm a few episodes from being done with S2, and while I've forgotten a lot of it, it's strangely familiar like I've watched it in the past 2 years, even though the first time I saw it was I think '06. But at the moment, without having looked again into S3 and beyond, I'm fairly certain I haven't seen any of those in over 4 years and barely can recall them

Back then I watched S1-S4 (while S5 was on TV) in like 3 months. Things aren't the same these days, guess I'm just older. I can only manage like 1-2 episodes at night after the gf goes to sleep and maybe I can sneak one in during the day.

I'm in the middle of my easiest quarter of college yet, so I've had lots of free time.

I'm partway through S6 now, and I'm positive this is all new material to me, I haven't seen any of these episodes before. Seasons 1 and 5 are the best I've seen so far.

Finally some legit movie news!!!

Says Sutherland, "It's a little early for me to say, but some amazing filmmakers have made themselves available to make the film. We're very excited," he said. "It's going to be a bad day and Jack Bauer will somehow find himself in the middle of it."

This movie might be a bit tricky to make as the major part of the show is to give an actual 24 hour sequence of events. Obviously, the movie can't be 24 hours so I guess it'll just have to jump time to time which might be a little bit weird for the hardcore fans who now have the belief that so much can happen in a 24 hour period. Says Sutherland, "The main difference with the film is that it will be a two hour presentation of a 24 hour day...it will not be in real-time, which will free the writers up greatly. It is very feasible to fly from United States to Japan and still have a lot of stuff to do. We could never do that in real-time because the flight is fourteen hours. That would just not be very good watching."

Does this mean some international travel is part of the plot? Probably not. Sutherland is probably just giving an example of how they might be able to keep the authenticity of 24 while still making it only two hours long. Personally, two hours is more than enough time and while the hardcore fans may be disappointed, it can still make for a good action flick. You just won't see Jack Bauer interrogate a terrorist for 20 minutes at a time. Dang it, my favorite part of the TV series.

I still think the idea of doing 1 hour of "standard" movie where you jump all over then have 1 hour of "real time" but either way, I'm excited. I just can't see them NOT using the "real time" aspect in some way since it is a huge thing to the show.

I've heard that 24 often reused minor characters throughout the seasons, but I'm watching S3 now and recognized this LAPD detective as General Juma from the season before last :lol Not quite so much of a minor role

Just got to the part in S4 where Air Force One is shot down and they introduce Logan and have him sworn in. Already getting me excited for Season 5!

After the episode it also led me to a lot of very educational reading on my part on the history of the 25th amendment :lol

I was wondering if anybody remembered what season and hour they showed a few pictures of David Palmer. They were either on his desk or hanging in his house/apt but there were three: Him as a younger man with a giant afro, him and his brother wayne in front of a bush or something and him playing golf. Thanks!

I imagine you're not going to come back and read this, but I just started season 5 again tonight and after he was assassinated in the first episode, there have been a number of times where the news coverage on some background TV was playing and they were showing a slideshow of pictures.

Then when Jack goes to the building where he was shot and is looking for info with Wayne Palmer's help, there's a picture of him and Wayne on the desk. It might have been some combination of this :thumbsup

:lol Seems like a lot of people aren't happy with that? Wasn't Tony in an interview somewhere sounding pissed after being killed? But then they brought him back somehow... I just watched that episode a few days ago where he dies. Bullshit that they brought him back, did they ever really explain it? Because he's freaking dead. I mean, I guess they can just say whatever they want about what really happened. Kinda like kids playing superheroes who have constantly evolving superpowers, appropriate for whtaever situation they're in at the moment :lol

The first submitted script was scrapped. :(

24-KeiferFans of Jack Bauer who were hoping to get a big screen fix of their favorite anti-hero may be in for a long wait: EW has learned exclusively that 20th Century Fox has nixed a script from Billy Ray (State of Play) that would have continued the storyline of the rogue CTU agent from the long-running drama 24.

“As far as I know, it is in suspended animation,” Howard Gordon, the longtime executive producer of 24 who is also expected to produce the big screen version, told EW exclusively. ”There is talk about re-approaching it. I understand (director/producer) Tony Scott is meeting with Kiefer to talk about ideas. People are still talking about it.”

When 24 ended its eight-year run on Fox in May, Sutherland told EW the series finale would tee up the movie. “We wanted to create a definitive end for Jack Bauer,” the actor explained. “Since we do have the intention to make the feature film, it would lead into that and certainly set that up. Something we’ve dealt with in the series is how the crisis always has to come to us because we don’t have time to move anywhere in a real time world. In a two-hour (movie) representation of the 24 world, planes, trains, and automobiles all of a sudden become a factor because you are not required to go scene by scene in real time. That’s something I can say I am very excited about.”

Gordon is certainly keeping busy while Fox decides Jack Bauer’s next play: Besides having two dramas in development at Showtime and Fox, he’s busy promoting his thriller novel Gideon’s War. (And how’s this for staying loyal to the CTU family: Carlos Bernard, aka Tony Almeida, is reportedly narrating the audiobook version. For Gordon book signing details, click here). But Gordon remains optimistic that Jack’s days are not over.

“I was disapppointed [Fox] passed on the script but I’m certainly hopeful that the movie will get made at some point,” he said. “Anecdotally, I’ve heard from people who are really missing the show and I do think there is more life in Jack Bauer.”

I'm on season 6 now, had to go back to Netflix.

One of the many, many inconsistencies/plot holes I'm noticing is a few times in this season "the NSA intercepted a call" between 2 key people that led them to something. But they seem to only do that when it's convenient for the plot, or maybe when they can't think of any other way to give CTU a lead. But with all the other phone calls these people make, why aren't they intercepting all these phone calls :lol It's kinda silly that way

I forgot this was already the season with Jack's brother and father and everyone else like that.

Sucks this thread isn't kickin any longer. I'm still watching the show, just finished season 6 and then watched Redemption the other night, so about to start S7.

I have this, then I'm still kinda making my way through Six Feet Under, just started The Wire, and have numerous other movies I want to get to, but I end up going back to episodes of 24 more often than not :lol Maybe just because I already know they're gonna be exciting, or because they're ~42 minutes as opposed to the hour long format of the other shows

Just finished the 8th season. 7 and 8 were definitely an awesome improvement over season 6. Loved that they were darker than the show usually was. 8 was absolutely intense, although it seemed kind of forced when Taylor all of a sudden started listening to Logan. Seemed so out of character, but that was the point I guess. I really liked Ortiz and Arlo, they were my favorite one season add-ons in the whole series I think. Dana was lame, loved the way Jack offed her. That little run starting when he killed Dana and ending with the slaughter of the Russian delegates was un-fuckin-real.

Not sure how I feel about the ending. Seemed a little too tame, especially considering how the last couple episodes before it played out. I loved the finality of it though. As it was playing out, you could just sense it was different, that Jack had no real way out this time, even if he proved his point. That held true to the end, and for the first time he is wanted by his own government.

I think I would have liked it more if somehow Chloe had held on to that video drive Jack gave her, and she was able to disseminate to the interwebz as Jack was being executed simultaneously, after Taylor had signed the treaty. Her backing out at the last second and Jack surviving one more seemingly unescapable situation seemed like a bit of a cop out.

http://insidetv.ew.com/2011/03/21/24-movie-kiefer-sutherland-announces-release-date/

We’re holding our breath, Jack Bauer: Kiefer Sutherland told the women of The View this morning that the much-anticipated release of the 24 movie will be in (drumroll please) … 2012.

Hey, there’s no reason NOT to believe Sutherland (who was on the show to promote his Broadway play That Championship Season). Still, EW hears that the movie has yet to find a director and has no start date. I guess we should stay tuned.

Sutherland told EW earlier this year that he remains committed to a big-screen version of the Fox drama and, in fact, hopes to begin production within a year. Though Fox ultimately nixed a script by Billy Ray (State of Play), the movie remains “the little engine that could.” He acknowledged that 20th Century Fox has been working with director/producer Tony Scott (Man on Fire, The Good Wife) on the project. “Billy did a fantastic job and there are aspects of that story [that will remain],” the actor says. “I couldn’t be more thrilled.”

I've thought Tony Scott would be awesome for this since it was first rumoured.

Of course I also think Jon Cassar would do a great job.

The news only gets better for fans who are anxiously awaiting the return of Jack Bauer: Brian Grazer recently tweeted that he’s on board for long-gestating 24 movie.

“Got off the phone Keifer yesterday and we are very excited about producing the 24 movie for next year,” he tweeted.

Grazer’s involvement makes sense since Imagine Entertainment, the company he co-owns with Ron Howard, produced the long running action drama for Fox.

Last month, Kiefer Sutherland told the women of The View that the movie will come out in 2012.

Such a great moment.

My g/f and I started re-watching Season 1 over the weekend. It's been so long and I forgot how great it was. Seasons 1-5 of 24 are easily my favorite television of all time without a doubt. Season 6 was a low point. 7 and 8 were a moderate rebound, not as good as the initial 5 season run but much better than 6.

Selfishly I wish this show never would have ended, but it was time. It does have great re-watch value I'm noticing too, even though you remember the big plot twists, a lot of the smaller stuff you totally forget.

Just read a couple updates on the movie. They are still planning to do it, looks like it will shoot next year for a 2014 release. They initially planned to do it during Sutherland's break after shooting the first season of 'Touch', but couldn't get everything hammered out in time.
