A few times in this thread I've mentioned the Sopranos/24 connection. Peter Kingsley, last year's villain, was in the sopranos for an episode, Mikey Palmice from the sopranos S1 was in S2 of 24 briefly. There are a couple others but I'm on my way out the door.

Claudia was Adriana's friend in a couple episodes

Yeah what the hell? What I'm reading - it's gonna be on Sunday @ 9pm. Great - same time as the Sopranos. So I'm going to have to run that other cable from my sat dish to the 2nd coax input on my Tivo so I can watch one/record the other.

Or just not broadcast the stupid ass press conference. Here's a great idea, Fox spent all that money on a news network, put the freakin conference on Fox News for chrissakes.

News does not belong on the same netork as Joe Millionaire, My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance, The Littlest Groom, Temptation Island, and Forever Eden.

The 24 website (www.fox.com/24) posts pretty detailed summaries of each episode after it airs. I don't have a VCR that works anymore, so I just read the summaries when I missed a couple of episodes because of being out of the country.

I can't believe I just watched that. I feel very shaken.....a little speechless, and sad.
Shaken in the way I felt in season 1 when Kim and her mum are being held on their knees in front of the pits that had been dug for them.
Except this was worse.
Very, very, very powerful episode.
I think the last time an episode ended with no sound at all, which surely adds to the terror of tonights episode, was when the bomb went off in season 2. Am I right?

Nope. That was the 3rd silent clock, and the 2nd ep. to end with it. First one was the end of S1, second was midway thru S2, when Mason exits CTU for the last time, and tonight's was the third. I happen to love the silent clock - very classy way to end.

How would he hijack the van? The guys driving it would rather die than take Jack to Saunders. Plus Saunders would have prepared for that.

That was one of the most intense episodes I've ever seen. From what I read, however, the next one is the episode of the season. But we'll see in two days!

The music during the Saunders operation was very similar to the music from the first half of Season 1 - especially when Jack is running down the stairs at Ted Coffel's office, and again when he hijacks his limo. :)

seriously, that whole end with ryan crying and all that stuff was extremely powerful, it had me wishing that he wouldn't kill chappelle. whoever plays ryan (which will be brought up soon i'm sure) did an outstanding job these years playing him, and i think he did a very convincing and terrific job in this final scene of his. i wouldn't be surprised if we saw this actor more in the future on different things. what made it even worse was that like over this season and last season especially, they've givin him a lot of crap in my opinion, and he's put up with it, even though they've put up with him. when the clock went on silently i was breathless. just my thoughts.

willnole
04-18-2004, 11:21 PM
It was a great and intense episode, but I just question the plot sometimes. The writers are talented enough to write stories without problems, but stupid things keep coming up. We have a national policy to not deal with terrorists, why couldn't they have written a script without this blatant oversight?

For I show I like so much, the little things like that frustrate the hell out of me.

dobyblue
04-18-2004, 11:26 PM
It's Paul Shultze.......who also did a great job as Father Phil Intintola on The Sopranos.

As for season 2 spoilers....sorry about that. I don't think what I mentioned is a big spoiler anyway. It happens half way through the season and certainly knowing that it happens doesn't take away from the brilliance of watching it. I promise. :)
I just spoke to my family who were shocked at the ending as well. I knew the silent ending was not often used and could only remember that the last time I saw it was season 2 though. Tonight the only noise of the train horn as Chappelle crumples to the ground was pure dead brilliant. Absolutely fantastic. How excellent is it that we only have to wait 46 1/2 hours until the next episode?
I stand, once again, in total awe.

EDIT - on the policy to not deal with terrorist I would strongly expect if this scenario were occuring in real life, the policy may be overturned due to the expected fatality count of 5 million people (and that was recalculated)

Probably my fave episode of S1, when he tells him about the torture...

Also, the guys that were driving the van are probably just hoods. Shoot one of them, then put the gun to the other guy's head, and poof, we have ourselves a carjacking.

I think any President would do what Palmer's doing...I mean, the casualty projections are 2-5 million, and that's WITH the lockdown at LAX. Not only that, but Saunders seems..."brave"...enough to set off the virus, and Palmer doesn't know that the viruses haven't been placed yet. So it's an impasse--he has to do what Saunders says or 2-5 million ppl die. He's also stalling for time...just didn't figure he'd have to order someone's death.

Hey I noticed this in the episdoe don't know if anyone else caught it but:

Did you see the wedding ring on Chapelle's finger? Why didn't he call his wife?

Also just thinking about this too, but what happened to Jack's drug problem? He was craving pretty bad earlier, and now he is fine. The oly explanation I can think of is that he got some down at the Salazars.

Couple of pretty good observations I think.

My only explanation for the drug bit was that it was an act that involved the whole undercover agent thing, but that doesn't seem likely to me.

A) Maybe it wasn't a wedding ring....? .... more likely, he forgot to take it off before shoot (no pun intended)

B) Being really busy may be what Jack needs to stop the cravings or something.

Man, I wish that Kim would just get shot or something. She is pointless. The only reasons sheis still there is (A) she's Jack's daughter (which adds some cutesy moments) and (B) the producers know that there will be another half million viewers to see a hot chick.

~Ratings new from last night.....

NBC moved into first at 9 p.m. with the 8.8/13 for "Law & Order: Criminal Intent." CBS got a second place performance out of the first hour of "Along Came a Spider." ABC's "Alias" had a 5.2/8 for the hour, as "24" viewers forgot to tune in for a special Sunday airdate, yielding a 4.0/6. A new episode of "High School Reunion" had a 2.1/3 on The WB.

Yea I know, losing in double overtime sucked balls.

All kidding aside though it was a particularly chilling episode.
I can't wait to see how they top it tonight. It's the ONLY thing on TV that supersedes the Leafs for me.

Ryan Chappelle was a very well cast and excellently written character. I can say honestly that episode 6:00am - 7:00am will never be easy to watch.

Episode 6:00am - 7:00am is repeated on Fox tonight at 6:00pmEST.

Regarding 24, as a huge fan of the show during seasons 1 & 2 but straying away somewhat this season, I thought Chapelle acted out of character during Sunday's episode. I feel like the Chapelle I knew from the previous 2 1/2 seasons wasn't there. And I understand he was facing immiment death, but I still don't feel this episode did him justice. I will miss him.

last weeks episode is the 2nd time 24 has gotten me emotional. last season when jack said "goodbye" to kim from the plane...that whole fucking episode. same with sunday's episode. Between Michelle+Tony (even thought Tony still hasn't said I love you or anything like that), the hotel security guy and then of course Chapelle...it was a mess. I've had faith throughout each season and this one was no different while some doubted. I love this show with a passion. Cannot wait until tonight since things keep getting better and better. I find it a lot more fun to NOT watch the previews...that way you really have NO idea what is gonna happen. I've only watched a few commercials this season (like the one before the 4 week deprivation) and such. You guys should try it out.

Regarding Paul Schulze as Ryan Chappelle and Father Phillip Intintola from The Sopranos. I have no idea why IMDb has taken off Sopranos from his credits. It used to be there. Here is a good link to all of his appearances

Yes, I wouldnt recommend getting into it from here on out, simply for the fact that watching the show is SO much more rewarding when you have all the backplot and character developments in your mind. To keep a show like this one together like the writers have, with the AMAZING character developments (best ever, IMO) and plots that have few to no holes, it's nothing short of amazing.

the thing main i love about jack bauer is his attitude. he would do anything, kill anyone to protect his family. my favorite 24 moments are when something happens to his family. like in season 1 when nina tells him she i.d. "alan yorks" body. the look on jacks face was priceless. then he said to gaines : "i swear to god i will kill you if anything happens to my wife or my daughter." that was mint. then when hes captured at the breakfast and being interrogated by frank zimes. when hes getting all worked up and yelling, that black guy tries to sit him down. "BACK OFF!! GET OFF OF ME!!" i loved that whole scene. last night was the greatest though, when he almost beat the piss out of tony ("my kim?") and stormed int that room. the dude in there with kim must of sh!t his pants. the bottom line is jack would take on the world (and kick its ass) if kims life was at stake. and thats why hes the man.

FOX Renews '24,' 'The O.C.'

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - With its summer programming slate already in order, FOX is looking forward to the fall, renewing a quartet of its strongest current offerings. The network announced on Wednesday (April 21) that Golden Globe winning drama "24," admired comedies "The Bernie Mac Show" and "Malcolm in the Middle" and popular freshman drama "The O.C." will be back for a full season next year.

"We are delighted to bring back 'Bernie,' 'Malcolm,' '24' and 'The O.C.,'" Berman says. "These celebrated and groundbreaking shows are the backbone of FOX's scripted programming and we're pleased that these outstanding series will remain a vital part of our year-round programming mix."

Earlier this year, "24" captured its first Golden Globe for outstanding drama and after a rough creative start to its third season, recent episodes have garnered fresh critical acclaim. Despite drawing 9.93 million viewers per episode, the show is still off by nearly 2 million from last season.

Allow me to pick apart this rubbish, and please don't take offense to it, as I'm not attacking you, just having some good ol fun. :)

-Chappelle Show
We're talking apples and oranges here. A weekly comedy show, ala a Chapplle Show or SNL, really doesn't belong in the mix. I'll even go so far as to say any comedy should really be put into their own category, such as "funniest" show on tv, etc, since we're talking about a Drama here. That being said, lump this in with The Tonight Show, The Late Show, The Daily Show, etc. Average.

-South Park
-Aqua Teen Hunger Force
-Sea Lab
I love ATHF and Sea Lab 2021 is great, but again, sketch comedy? Please. Niche at best.

-Deadwood
I watch this show too, and although it's been better than what I expected, it certainly hasn't been around long enough to develop any sense of background or history for it to be considered a great show.

-Sopranos
Pitifully disappointing since Season 3 concluded. Maybe 3 good episodes since then. It's jumped the shark, sadly, but it's still one of my favorite shows plainly because it once was so great.

-Six Feet Under
Never watched it, no comment.

-Curb Your Enthusiasm
The funniest and most intelligent comedy on tv? Yes. Better than a drama that ties in multiple storylines with years of backstory and the best character development seen in a long time? No.

shit. . .I think that's about it. Hope I didn't miss anything extraordinary.

Will,

Ironically, I was just talking to a friend of mine about this last night - I plan on buying the DVD sets at some point. Truth be told I have never seen an episode. I just don't have the time to keep up with a ton of shows, but it's one that I've heard nothing but good things about - so I plan to catch up eventually. These days good TV has to be savored.

In the last hour of 24, there are some weird things that happen. With the people at the hotel pretty much dead, Michelle and the HazMat team are by themselves, surrounded by body bags. The President and Wayne are both demoralized, with all the deaths at the hotel, Chappelle's death, and the growing virus loose in LA. Jack catches Saunders, and brings him in, with two bullets in his left leg, and his dead daughter in a body bag. The end of 24 shows most of the main characters at a morgue, with bodies all around them. The President is there to pay his respects, with Wayne and Jack at his side. Palmer is very sad...well, until all the bodies sit up, and say "Happy Birthday President Palmer!!!!" and Saunders walks out, and has a big B-day cake. He says that the virus was just a joke, and then Jack laughs and you get the silent clock. Chilling.

IMDb has a huge 24 thread with lots of spoilers. I never go there, neither do I have the authority to ban anyone.

...you knew that was a joke...right?

Alright regarding the title of this thread, I must argue that 24 is not the greatest show ever. In fact, it's only slightly above average. People praise it because relative to all of the reality TV you get crammed into your mandible, it actually seems decent.

Shows that easily whip 24's sorry chimp ass (in no particular order):

-Chappelle Show
-South Park
-Deadwood
-Sopranos
-Six Feet Under
-Curb Your Enthusiasm
-Aqua Teen Hunger Force
-Sea Lab

shit. . .I think that's about it. Hope I didn't miss anything extraordinary.

it's funny because your douchefuck ass is totally wrong.

Did anyone watch ER last night? Stephen Saunders was on it as a doctor. I'd use his real name but I don't know what it is.

I don't have a lot of nights a week that I can watch a lot of TV, so the fact they're both on tuesday back to back makes it a lot easier. I've got the first two seasons on DVD (but alas no DVD burner :( ) and they're totally worth the investment.

The thing the Shield has that 24 doesn't is the ability to jump in and start watching at any time. A lot of my friends say they're not watching 24 because they missed the first few episodes and won't understand what's going on. Fox even addressed this cause they're now advertising "there's no better time to jump in and start watching" in the commercials. While there are certainly subplots in The Shield that a casual viewer will miss, there's always other crimes that need to be solved every episode that make it interesting for everyone.

Point being, Tuesdays rule! :)

http://www.gibson.com/whatsnew/pressrelease/2004/apr22a.html

Kiefer Sutherland, star of the Fox TV hit series "24," has been collecting Gibson guitars for over 20 years, and now he's putting them to work in his new recording studio, Ironworks. His stash of 28 new and vintage Gibsons provides a full arsenal of guitar sounds for the artists who record in the new studio, which he built with musician and producer Jude Cole.

"I don't play in a band, and I didn't build the studio so I could make a vanity record," Sutherland explained. "Jude and I built it together, and it was really to start a label that was going to help young artists that might not be able to find their way in what is becoming a very shrinking corporate music industry and try and make records for them, and either get them out independently or actually use the distribution apparatus of a major."

I've gotta tell ya Will, you're probably the only person in America who feels that way. Critical and popular acclaim this season has gotten since the second half kicked off, and the last 8 episodes of this season have been deemed the best 24 eps. ever by the critics, and tonight's episode was a testament to that. I've never felt such an intense episode.

24 stuns us again.

Too much furthering of the plot by bonehead moves. There's no way Saunders will let Michelle go. Tony has to realize that. He's acting in complete opposite to everything thy've let me to believe that Tony is (as a person/agent) he just completely sells the US out in order to save her. He essentially allowed the person controlling the virus to escape, possibly endangering millions of lives so that he could "save" his wife, who isn't going to survive anyways. Makes no sense to me, I'm sorry.

The first half of the season (plus the first two seasons) were great. I've never had problems with the show like this before. I just feel like they're insulting my intelligence with improbible storylines to create false tension that should never have had to occur.

Wow, your an attorney? Anyways I do understand what Matt is saying. I mean Tony just found out his wife is going to live, and now she is captured. Most people's first reaction would be to do whatever the terrorist wanted, like Tony did. However, I didn't like the fact that he did do that. You always have to look at the bigger picture. In my opinion it is ok to sacrifice one to save many.

Tony is forced to try and think about life after Michelle - thanks to Chappelle's rather to-the-point comments. Then Michelle survives the threat of possible infection while Chappelle gets a bullet in his head. Very cool.
I enjoyed tonights episode. Very good use of the biker pulling up beside Kim's escort. Just enough interaction between Michelle and Tony after she finds out that she is immune to allow for Tony's decision to help Michelle, the woman he loves, instead of 5 million people. I wouldn't want to watch my wife get her eye gouged out. Not even Jack would have had the intestinal fortitude to turn the screen off and hang up on Saunders. Although I wouldn't lay money on it.
