Mark - time is short, but you still have a shot. Go out and buy Season 1 and 2 DVDs. Find someone who has them if you don't wanna drop the loot - but trust me it's worth it and then some. That's 48 episodes in a week. You can do it. 7 a day. 40 mins an episode (without commercials). 7*40=280 mins. A little under 5 hours per day. Do it man ;)

Damn World Series taking up all of my time. :lol

this should be good stuff. i had just bought the first season on dvd when raleigh got nailed with that ice storm in dec that shut down the city for 5 days. i luckily had power and the time on my hands to watch all 24 episodes. i just bought the second season on dvd last week for $36 brand new. i need to get on my horse if i plan on watch the 3rd season in real time. i also have dvr if i can't make it. i'll just have the 3rd season waiting on my dvr...can't wait.

Oh yeah I can't wait. This is gonna rock. Who wants to take me up on a bet that Kim either a.) gets kidnapped or b.) gets lost or something. Thats the only thing I don't like about this show. The Kim factor is predictable.

Mark - read up on the links Dena posted for a pretty comprehensive rundown of each episode.

Anyway - I have some really big question marks about S3 which drive me nuts, because even at this point they aren't solidly answered! They're still filming S3 and by the time the premier airs they'll still have about 10-12 more episodes to shoot, so they can adjust midway through the season based on fan feedback.

Bottom line: Nina, Mandy, Max, and the guy Max was talking to on the phone (the guy eating breakfast, I think), NEED to be involved. The whole notion of that common thread throughout the seasons that this higher-up organization has been behind it all is very, very exciting.

If anyone has seen the deleted scenes on the S2 DVD, they've noticed that there was a scene where Nina is supposed to join Max on the boat right at the very end. That in itself provides hope that they have that kind of thought in mind.

Remember the end of S1? "If you kill me, you won't know who I work for. You think I work for the Drazen's, but I don't."

And what the HELL did Jack whisper to Nina right after he escaped her holding him hostage in S2? I've been reading on Fox's message boards and it's just as much a mystery to them as well. Funny thing is, there are always one or two people who have the inside track and post info, but this is one topic that wasn't ever resolved. I really hope it plays a part in this season. If you go back and watch that scene, you can't help but sense the deliberateness of it. Something's gotta come of it.

I love the tick. I was afraid they would change it for S2 but they stuck with it. It's intense - they have great episode endings - and they've gotten so good with it, where you even get fired up at commercial breaks as well.

Funny thing is, after S1, the producers presented Fox with two versions of the show - one that held true to the real-time form, and one that was just like any other show, ala CSI - standalone episodes. Thank god that they chose to stay with this format. That alone makes this one of the most unique and exciting dramas ever to grace television.

I've gotten my dad into the show now...he got confused by the ticking clock at first (he's used to watching CSI-type shows), but after I explained, he know loves it too. The commercial breaks are so intense...all the "whatifs" come into play and it's time to discuss what's gonna happen.

That last statement you made that I quoted was said perfectly. The real time format makes the show that much better and that much more intense.

Mark
10-21-2003, 01:13 PM
what clock?

DMBeener
10-21-2003, 01:16 PM
Since the show is in real time format, right as the show is about to go to commercial, there's a clock that shows the time (like 1:16:37) relative to the episode. It ticks a few times and then fades to commercial. Then when the commercials are over, the clock ticks a few times again and then it goes back to the show.

Commercials usually have cliffhangers that make you go hmmm for a few minutes.

Hopefully that made sense...

That's what I'm still hung up on. Someone keeps demanding to me that she was "working" for Joseph Wald (from S2) but it seemed to me that she was just freelancing and selling him information. I don't think that equates to "working" for him - at least from the tone it was delivered in at the end of season 1.

I really don't have any expectations for Season 3. Not because I don't care, just because I haven't had much time to think about it. In fact, I don't even think I've seen a preview yet. All I know is that I can't wait for it to start. 1 week to go.

She definitely wasn't working for Wald. You're absolutely correct in your assumption - she's a freelancer, but she's from a higher-up organization.

How great was it in S2 when Wald tells Jack, "I only met her twice." I mean, at that point you obviously know who he's talking about, but it still gave me a rush.

So many great emotional parts to S2 that all come together due to the character development that carries over from S1. When Palmer grants Nina the pardon for the murder of Jack Bauer, the level of emotion and mutual respect, over the phone no less, between Jack and Palmer is amazing.

Overall, I'd have to give the nod to S1. Originality is always a factor when comparing the first two seasons of a show, but beyond that, the plot was so well done, so perfectly interwoven and balanced, with great heros and villains alike, that it just shined. S2 was spectacular as well, don't get me wrong, and it was definitely more intense than S1. However, the filler Kim subplot dragged it down a bit. If I had to rate the seasons out of 10, I'd give S1 a 10 and S2 a 9.5.

Well said. I think the 2nd season was totally taken down by the sub-plot of Kim. The show didn't suffer from it too much though.
Which to me shows its durability when it comes to longevity and script writing.

It's not a big in the .gif - must be an IE thing.

Man I can't wait for this season. I'm also super glad that they didn't kill off Palmer.

I always watched it w/ my friends down at college before I graduated, and when the finale of S2 was over we just looked at eachother in shock.

I was reading an interview w/ Kiefer Sutherland a couple of days ago, and him being one of the show's producers, actually suggested to the production team that if they really wanted to jar the audience, kill Jack. The rest of the group laughed at him - but he does have a point. Now note that I think 24 isn't 24 without Kiefer as Jack, but it would be a move that would stay true to the show's "no character is guaranteed" attitude.

Disclaimer: They better not do that. :)

*S1 and S2 SPOILERS*

here's my take on the whole "secret organization" that is behind everything....it's the government. that would be explosive, for jack to find out that he's been working to stop something that employs him. the government is doing this to keep the public's attention or something..i think we saw hints of it last season, when we learned about the Oil Guy and his plans to start a MidEast war. I think the Oil Guy works for the US Government, as does Palmer's assassin.

VERY interesting theories. Brings up some great points. I was trying to get a feel for the landscape around Max when he was on the boat - or his superior when he was eating on the phone - but I couldn't make out where they possibly were.

What's weird is that Mandy's attempted assassination of Palmer was the result of "Plan B starts today." Now that was freaky. They basically have a running start going into S3, I just hope they don't drop it completely and carry on with a completely new and unrelated plot.

Kingsley might have very well worked for the government, but wouldn't somebody have heard of him? Maybe not - so that's very possible - but I think it was Kingsley who was contracted out by the "masterminds" to make sure the U.S. went to war against three innocent countries, damaging the U.S. reputation and tearing our country apart, all while paying Peter a little compensation for his troubles.

I think we can look to this higher organization, if it isn't our own government, as a multi-pronged terror group with a wide reach of ideas and means to execute them.

The Drazens obviously had ties to this group, so when they approached the group with their plans for Palmer and Bauer, the group connected the Drazens with Nina for inside intel.

Just my ideas. :)

Totally off topic, but has anyone ever been curious about a link between Maria Kingsley from S1 and Kingsley from S2? Recall Maria K. was the news reporter that was going to break the story about Keith.

I've always been curious. Why use the same character name in both season? Strange.

Yea I noticed the Maureen/Peter last name similarity and thought it was strange. I think just a coincidence, however.

I find it funny how many actors are on both The Sopranos and 24.

Tobin Bell: Peter Kingsley from 24 = Major Zwingli from the last episode of season 3 of The Sopranos.

Paul Schulze: Ryan Chappelle from 24 = Father Intintola from The Sopranos

And I SWEAR that the PI who was tortured and killed while Kate watched in Syed Ali's safehouse was Mike Palimice, Uncle Junior's right hand man from S1 of The Sopranos. I can't find the name of the actor though.

It's so great what they've done with the show because originally it was only earmarked for 13 episodes, so if the show didn't do well, they had to wrap up the storyline in 13 episodes. Kinda funny, especially since it's called '24'.

Sometimes they do that on FX. I'd suspect that they'll do it with the season opener this time. I think they did it last season. To be safe, why don't you guys just tape it...or download it and watch it whenever you're ready.

Season 1 was all about an assasination attempt on Palmer's life.

Not sure about the scar.

The heroin thing will most likely be revealed to us soon, but most likely, when Jack was undercover with Salazar (a drug dealer), he did heroin so as to fit in with the role he was playing. Heroin is addictive, hence Jack is now addicted to heroin.

I can't get over how good the acting and writing complement eachother. Just from his performance in episode 1 alone Sutherland should win best actor.

Seeds were planted for the season, and they're all exciting seeds. I'm really interested in how this is all going to play out. I just hope they tie it into the first two seasons. I think they will.

they will....in one of the scenes in that featured President palmer, someone said...wait, it was during the rehearsal for the debate, and they ask palmer if he is fit for the job, and palmer says the stuff about lifting weights and all that, then someone says that they caught the "two men" who made the attack....so...there's something to think about.

Agreed.

No question about it. I'd never even doubt it in my mind. What was up with the season finale last year?

"There isn't going to be any war, Max. The President found out about the Cyprus Recording."

"Well.....we're going to have to do this another way."

"What?"

"You'll find out...it will start today."

[Enter Mandy]

So Mandy gave Palmer a pretty bad bug, but he pretty much recovered. We can't assume that anything is over though, because of what Max said, "We're going to have to do this another way...it will start today."

Their original objective wasn't just to kill Palmer, which they didn't succeed at anyway. You have to ask yourself if death was even their objective in the first place. "It will 'start' today." They got Palmer, but it was just the start. Foreshadowing of some biohazard/virus.

Another thing I just realized:

Exactly WHAT was the objective of starting the war in Season 2????? It was hinted that Kingsley wanted the war to start so the value of his oil holdings would triple. Good reason, but Kingsley was obviously just another pawn being used from an order higher than him. So what was their reason for wanting the war? I think it's safe to assume that their objective is still being sought after in this season.

A huge percentage of people don't have that insight though, so I doubt that's what they're going with the story. Besides, Chase said something like "I know what they did to you...so do what you have to do to get through today."

Anyone ever see Narc? Same kind of story. Undercover agents get hooked on the drugs that are around them so they blend in and retain their cover.

See? I love reading stuff like this. Sure, there are other good shows on TV, but show me a series where people get this excited about it and proclaim that it is the best they've EVER seen. I don't think you'll find anything else like it. The people who know the show know how good it is, and that makes me happy to see. Here's hoping that 24 gets its due credit this year.

I definitely agree with that. There was something about season 2 that I don't think they'll ever match. It had such an astute feeling to it since you saw the govt. dealing with such carnal issues like national terrorism and world war. And Matt, the scene you always point out - Kim on the phone with Jack while he's flying the nuke out into the desert --- wow, period. And when the bomb finally goes off --- no words suffice.

Wow.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

Best.

I browned my shorts when we found out that guy worked at CTU, and then I about had a heartattack when we found out the virus gets out.

of course that had to happen...it wouldn't be a season of 24 without it! :p

Fucking Fox and their over-revealing previews.

I don't know how I feel about that guy in CTU. I hope they get to him quickly so he doesn't play a major part in the plot. But the information about Anne is exciting - I can't wait to find out what that is.

She mentioned in an interview that she only had a tiny recuring role in this season, so I wouldn't look for too much of anything to do with her character.

Can I add to that a big "THANK GOD."

She did a good job of getting under my skin in S2...and I have pretty thick skin.

agreed, they pretty much gave away a huge surprise/excitement of next episode

tonight's episode dragged up until the last 20 minutes, still great nonetheless. good action scene, they tease you wtih teh thing about anne, and the jack/chase thing is already getting fired up

and we're only 2 hours in :)

i love tuesdays, i watch playmakers (last week's) at 8, then 24 at 9.

I thought the same about the previews too Matt. At least it's only the virus and there wasn't *too* much about the other stuff.
I have a feeling that Gael will be around for a while, just because they seem so overly focused on Salazar so that it will take attention away from him. I'm excited about the Anne news, she's screwing the prez in more ways than one...

And Jesus tap dancing Christ, you'd think after Nina, they'd do more of a background check with who works at CTU. Who's going to work there next season, Osama Bin Laden?!?

i dont know why, but it reminded me of when i was driving the other day by raytheon, and 3 patriot missle systems were being wheeled out of there with no security around them, nothing. i was like

I think you're right about Jack's whisperings.

I think the disguise is a bit of a stretch. :lol

At least we won't have to deal with a Kim subplot this season.

Dancing Ants
11-04-2003, 11:41 PM
actually we will...did you see how the terrorist in CTU looked at her...? he's going to try to abduct her. I can already see next season...>

Jack to Chase: I did what I had to do. It's the only way she'd be safe.

Chase:....Jack...you put Kim in a chastitiy belt and a bubble that is nuke proof...Adam (the nosy computer guy) keeps calling her 'bubble girl' and it really pisses me off.

Jack: He did what?! he's threat to national security. off him.

Great episode.

I don't see how Gael being in CTU is unrealistic. Remember Jamie from S1, she was recruited when she was in CTU. And I think the room Gael was in was some type of security room, so I think he's some security person, maybe the head of security. Which would explain why he has his own room.

Also, I don't think that the virus is actually in the bag of cocaine. Seems like just a diversion to distract CTU from the real virus. It's way too early for the virus to be released.

Interesting things you wouldn't know about 24 actors and actresses.

Dennis Haysbert - President Palmer, played Pedro Cerrano in the Major League movies

Xander Berkeley - George Mason, played Todd Voigt in Terminator 2 (John Connor's foster father)

I'll post more if I find them.

I didn't catch the commercial free episode last week, was Kate in any of it? Also, I wonder if Kate's sister or any of the Warners will show up in this season

A friend of mine brought up an interesting though. Isn't it way too soon for the virus to be released? Maybe this cocaine bag is just a ruse

Bartender84
11-05-2003, 05:34 PM
Kate was in the premiere for just a few minutes. Her and Jack have broken up, she called him saying she wanted to return his jacket or something. The actress said that Kate most likely won't be in this season as much, maybe just a few other times.

I think we are all in agreeance that we do not want to see Kim being a "retard" this season. That storyline is like kicking a dead horse. I really hope that doesn't happen this season. But I am so into this season already. I just can't even fathom the possibilities of what will happen.

Judging by how things usually go in this show, we can expect the worst in a situation such as we saw at the end...but we haven't *seen* it yet, so I'm not assuming anything.

(how's that for sounding kinda shady to continue the discussion yet not say anything at all for those who haven't seen it yet?)

This'll come back to bite Jack in the ass I think. Chase was supposed to be the one out in the field.

The biggest problem I'm having waiting a week to see each episode is that I forget some stuff from the previous week, like how CTU found out that it was the kid (can't remember his name) that had the infected (well, fake) cocaine?
