Shn To Wav...

I know, I know. You get this all the time. I searched but could not find anything. I have fully downloaded my first SHN and I have the mkw converter, but it says on the FAQ page that all you need to do is "drag" the shn file into the converter. I tried that a million times and nothing happens. Am I doing something wrong? As soon as I touch the converter box it changes and dissappears. I am sure there is a simple and easy solution, but I am too dumb to figure it out. Thanks for anyone's help.

I downloaded it on the ants server. The whole show downloaded and I have the file. I just can't drag the file into the converter. I believe I am only one step away from learning this whole SHN business. Where do most people save the shows they have downloaded? I guess any folder will work, right? Maybe I am dragging it from the wrong area or should I create a shortcut onto my desktop and drag it from there?

you should be able to just drag the SHN into the mkw box and at the bottom it will begin to say processing.

make sure you go into the options and specify whether or not: 1. you want the SHN deleted after it is converted and 2. where you want the resultant wav file to go.

i have tried dragging it in and nothing happens. is there another way to convert it? or do I have to drag it in? does it take a little bit to start? how long does it take to convert? I drag it to the box but then it disappears as soon as I touch the box. Should that happen? Can you actually see the file after you are over top of the box? I can't, it changes to a little + sign and a little [_]

i have absolutely no clue what you are talking about here... there is a little white box in the mkw window that says "drag SHN files to convert to wav". you drag a file there and it will then go to the bottom and say either idle or processing and the file name.

now i understand... that is simply a feature of windowst that it changes to the plus sign and the box. just drop that in mkw.

okay, i'll try this again tonight. It seems like it shouldn't be a problem so i will keep trying. maybe i just needed to restart or something. I actually downloaded mkw a few days before but we'll see. Thanks for your help.

after it converts to WAV then I can just plug the show into my burner program and i will be all set? i will be able to figure that part out I hope. Doesn't seem to difficult from there. I hope this works, i am pumped about this SHN thing. I can download a new show everynight and have the whole collection by 2005!! HA HA!

yeah, just be sure to burn it as DAO, disc at once, that way you won't get 2 second gaps between songs and it will sound seamless.:) just like a live show.

Are you dragging the shn files or the .ants file?

I may be dragging the .ants file. I think it says .shnf after it though. It has a little face on it and the date of the show I downloaded. Is there something else I need to convert before dragging the file? It went straight from downloader to a folder and I took it from there.

.shnf is a shn folder which would contain the shn files, md5, and txt.

The .ants file is NOT the show.

I am assuming that the file you are trying to drag and drop looks like this...

If so, this is the .ants file that you use to download the shows with, not an actualy shn file...

?'s helped out a lot. Last thing though, do you HAVE to have winamp? I can download it but I wasn't sure. Thanks again.

You don't have to have winamp. That is an alternative method for listening to the shows.

I've been such a wanker, recording my CD's in TAO and hating it. Thanks for the enlightenment.:D

It kills me how many people try to convert the ants file. Like the entire show is really going to be in a 40KB file (or whatever).
