I've been thinking of giving FTP's a try. In the FAQ it says that you have to pay for most FTP software, with the exception of WSFTP LE 5.08. Is it a good software? Or would I be better of buying one, and if so which one? I'm ona DSL connection, so I think my speeds would be ok. I'm just wondering how downloading is from FTP? I know there are slow and fast servers depending on the user connection, but I guess what I'm getting at is, is using FTP a pain in the ass? Is it worth it? Is it faster/slower than the HTTP server ( a consensus, I'm guessing all FTP's have different upload speeds?)

Thanks for any suggestions/help :)

i use SmartFTP. it's free.

the speeds you get will depend on who you're downloading from.

generally, i'd say you won't get the kind of speeds you would get from the http server here during "off tour" times. you should still get decent speeds, though.

the pain in the ass is finding one that's not full (especially now, with the http server being down). but if you can get in, it's definitely worth it.

Bulletproof FTP is the one I recommend.
