What happens on the way to the bank to cash those big paychecks that makes hoops at the next level suck?

He picked up his dribble as he planted his right foot, stepped once on his left and laid the ball in with the foul. Only ESPN has supported the call, not surprising, given their ACC bias.

If you saw 3 steps (like the ref did) than so be it. I did not, nor did CBS analysts in the post game. It was a travel in the official books, so what we say here matters not. Let's move along. What the hell happenned to AZ down the stretch?

it wasnt just a choke...we def had to work for it. It was still defintly part choke...thats the problem with playing the number 1 team in the nation....a 15 point lead doesnt mean shit.

Hell yeah. Sure Arizona played laxed at the end and didn't protect the ball, but you gotta give the best team in the country credit. As I said before, you won't find another team with that much heart.

03-27-2005, 10:40 AM
Nice work Illinois. I was rooting for you all over Zona (I'm still pissed about them ruining our 3-peat) and I'll be rooting for you over Louisville next Saturday (Because they're all tool bags). Honestly, could Arizona have gotten off a worse shot? Did it look like to anyone else that the Arizona player had position for the board, and if they'd taken the shot earlier he'd have had a good chance for a put back?
Hoppytoad
03-27-2005, 11:28 AM
Was there a choke by Arizona... yes. Perhaps they were forced into it though. Those last few minutes had all of our heads spinning, why not theirs?
Pure and simple... Illinois just wanted it more.

I will say that I totally expected Illinois to win that game even when they were down by double digits. They are just such a great team, and they have more heart than any team I've ever seen. The win was a combination of their heart and Arizona choking.

Man, it feels good to be back. Especially after an 8-20 season just a few years ago. May, McCants, and Felton really carried the team today. I'll give Wisconsin their props though, they played a really good game. Now I just need UK to lose and this would be a perfect day.

Wait, you forget all the people who claimed that the Illini were overrated because the Big 10 was so weak...Yeah, they were mainly Duke people who'll now be watching the Final 4 from home. 50% of the final 4 is Big 10, and the lowly Wisconsin Badgers were in spitting distance of making it 75% and skunking the ACC. I'd like to see an all Big 10 final, just to rub it in.

Here's some info coming from the Big Ten Commish Jim Delany.
- The Big Ten "had a much better December than most thought, playing 110-plus games and wining 70% with the second-toughest strength of schedule and eight or nine wins against Top 25 teams."
- They "played 33 of the top 50 teams in the country. No one else played more in the Top 25."
- "The ACC is fast-paced because they average 71 points. We average 68 points. It sounds to me like that's one three-point basket in 40 minutes."

i know who i'm pulling against, but it's more fun to pull for a team than against one (or two).:D
Well for my brackets sake I need a UNC vs. Louisville matchup.
haha the director of our pool called me up and was like "you're so far ahead of anyone, you can lose botht he final four games and still win by 10 points."

That was extremely rough game. Our apartment complex went nuts on the Sparks 3. Thank God they called that a 3. I think he was probably fouled but after the Louisville game they weren't gonna call it. I can't even type. I cried all through the OTs. Good luck to the teams left. This was a good year for us and I guess I can't complain. Take it easy on us, I know that girl was a tool but you have to feel for the real fans. Only about 351 days until next years tourny!
Wow, that's really classy of you. At least you know that UK has some great young talent that can definitely make a deep tournament run in the future.

ok, yes I am here after the tough loss. UK played very well I thought. Sparks is a great player and will be back next year, if Uk has these same guys minus chuck hayes we will be a great team, even better than last year. We had alot of freshman who made stupid mistakes, but you will have that because they are young and inexperienced. UK went further than what I had expected them to go. I didnt think they were going to win it all, but it was fun to taunt. I never said they were going to win it all. They are still a great team and they played very well. We will be back next year with an experienced team ready to play. We are not over-rated, kentucky has a great basketball program. I will stick with my team. We gave it our best....
good luck to everyone elses team still in the tourney, tonights game was a great game . Sparks made the game even more exciting.

Tough loss for Big Blue tonight. Just goes to show what free throw shooting and experience can do for a team as the little X factor they might need. Like it or not, Julie, this team WAS overrated... more so overachieving. Had you told me when the year started they would go to the Final 8 with a gnat's ass away from the Final 4 and 28 wins I'd have told you you were on smack. Hayes and Azubuike will be missed, but watch out as this freshman class progresses. Good luck Illinois and Carolina!

However, I was very disappointed with the bar scene last night. We went down to Armory and there were no young people out at all. Well, Limerick actually had young people out. I actully got a number, but still it seemed like it was all an over 35 crowd.

I have no idea. I got there at 9:30 so we may have missed it. We started at Syracuse Suds. That happened to be one of the NC State bars so we left there and headed over to Kitty Hoynes which was packed with the 35 plus crowd and then headed over to Limerick which was pleasant.

If the Illini cut down the nets, there's no reason not to think they are among the best team's ever....they'll break the record for most wins in a season. 38-1 form a conference with 3 elite 8 teams, 2 final four. Its hard to make an argument against this team, espeically with the ballz they showed on Saturday. I felt like I was in college again, my voice is still hoarce, I sprained my ankle jumping off the top my chair. Met Bll Murray after the game, what a great guy.... unbelieveable weekend.

yup, they both go to my high school. Been to school with them since 6th grade. Really nice guys. They are pretty damn big, but are going to need to bulk up to get playing time anytime soon at UCLA.
I actually played on the same football team with them in 8th grade. Fun as hell to see them play high school football. They are animals out there. When our team made it deep into the playoffs, we had "send offs". The team would get on the bus and we would all cheer and acted like we cared. Bosworth was at that, and also saw him at the games

I dont know how you can bet against this team after what they overcame on Saturday. That was literally the best come back, considering what was on the line in NCAA hoops history. Youre not hearing anyone on a national level question this team anymore.....because they have the talent, heart and will and already proved it.
Next question: Deron Williams, Jason Kidd with a jump shot as this point of career????.....granted, JKidd only played one year at Cal, but I'm only going off the comparisions being made. Some "experts" are claiming that DWill improved his draft status by 7-10 picks over this past weekend.

against an exausted West Virginia team??? No doubt Louisville's comeback was impressive, but lets be honest... anyone that saw the way the WV played down the strech and the horrific overtime knows that that Mountaineers did more than thier fair share to hand over that game. Louisville is a damn good team, but that still doesnt chancge the fact that theyve beat one, maybe 2 ranked teams all season.... The Cards havent been tested anywhere close to what Illinois has seen and accomplished this year... and thats saying a lot, considering Illinois wouldnt be in this Final Four if the regoinals hadnt been in Chi. Overcoming 8 points with 1:00 left....I'm sorry, I've never seen that done with 2 teams of that caliber.

i'm not taking anything away from what Illinois did. but let's not pretend that Arizona played their asses off down the stretch. both teams made great comebacks that were equally impressive for different reasons. i understand that being at one of the games makes it more astonishing to the eyes just as being at a DMB show can make it better because of the "energy." coming from someone who had no interest in either game and seeing both of them on tv, i think Louisville and Illiniois are both going to play great come Saturday. i could be wrong, but i wouldn't expect either team to "breeze" to the title game.

may has been amazing this year. one of the best, if not the best, big man in the nation. however, he stated that unc doesnt forget to give the ball to may, that arizona lost because because frye didnt get enough touches, and that unc doesnt do that to may. i just gave proof that they did.
and anyways, whats wrong with taking a little shot at UNC. i mean after wake decided to lose to wvu, which actuallly doesnt make me feel as bad seeing how they played in the rest of the tournament they are a nasty team, i have nothing left but to bash unc

Fair enough. I just thought took it that he meant they have gotten May touches consistently the second half of the season. He hasn't been forgotten about in a game since Wake.

Ok everyone, in lue of my excitement here are my predicted scores for this Saturday:
Louisville vs Illinois
halftime score: 39-35 Illinois
final score: 77-73 Louisville
game summary:
Taquan Dean hits 6 threes, 4 in the second half. Ellis Myles dominates the paint grabbing 14 boards. Louisville has trouble keeping up with Illinois' speed as Deron Williams and Dee Brown combine for 42 but Larry O'Bannon proves to be the difference again scoring 15, 13 in the second half.
UNC vs Michigan St.
halftime score: 45-39 UNC
final score: 83-81 UNC
game summary:
UNC scores at will but doesn't show up on the defensive side of the ball. Other than Sean May, UNC is walloped on the inside and Paul Davis scores 17 and grabs 13 boards. UNC is up by 6-10 all night long but at the 7:00 minute mark Mich. St. closes it to a 2 point game and takes the lead for a brief moment. Felton, Williams and McCants are too much down the stretch knocking down free throws and hitting jump shots. Alan Anderson scores 16, Maurice Ager has 15 but not enough because McCants scores 23 and Felton chips in 19 with 7 dimes.
Can anyone tell I am excited about this weekend. I think I have taken it overboard.

Nice thoughts. However, even as a Carolina fan I want to see UNC vs. Illinois. They've consistently been touted as the two best teams in the nation all year, and it would be great for college basketball to end a superb tournament with the two best teams playing. I'm all for upsets in March, but this is a match up I'd love to see.
That being said, all it will take for me to be happy is a Tar Heel victory Monday night.

Don't get me wrong I'm not overlooking MSU. I was just saying the only way I'll be happy on Monday is if the Heels are the ones doing the cutting. They have to beat the Spartans first.

That's exactly how I felt about the National title game this year against USC. After the game, I was of course bummed out but I was able to realize the incredible year and everything. The Championship is the obvious goal, but be thankful you are still getting to root on your team.

i think they'll breeze over louisville for some reason. that zona game is haunting me. last night i dreamed i was a british commander on a ship (back in the pre-revolution days) and deron williams was a french ship shooting 3 pointers at my ship to sink it.
Don't think of it as a dream. Think of it as a premonition. :D
Seriously -- both teams have work to do Saturday, but a rubber match between UNC and UI for the NC after splitting their last 2 meetings over the past 2 years would be sweet.

its the only unc game ive watched all year, its not hard to go back that far when you saw may sit on the bench for most of the last half because he is completely ineffective.

I'm not a UNC fan by any stretch of the imagination, but i won't sit here and act as if they're not a great team. i have no desire to see them win. I want all of my friends to experience their first Roy Williams sob job on national tv. then, i want to hear the whine and cheesers start complaining about the job he's doing and call for Bill Gutheridge to come back. with all that said, there is no doubt in my mind now that UNC and Illinois are the two best teams in the nation. that doesn't mean they'll play each other, but they are the best. Sean May will be the Player of the Year for the country next season. yes, he is coming back reguardless of what happens. Marvin Williams is the one that is most likely to leave. McCants and Felton are waiting to see what the tourney does to their draft stock.

We had a nice little song we were singing in Syracuse when Roy was here, it went something like:
"Roy Williams is a cry-baby"
Well, so I really only came up with one line. But still, it was enjoyable. He's a great coach, but he gets on my nerves a little bit. Me, I'm pulling for Louisville.

if you look close at the credits for BTCS, Roy Williams is listed as part of the inspiration for "Pig."

After all the crap the Big Ten got this year for being down it's amazing they have two teams in the Final Four. All the talk about Illinois and Wisconsin's home winning streak, I forgot about Mich St. Tom Izzo is so QUALITY. Much respect for him as a coach. I think Illinois will probably win, but I want to cheer for Mich ST. Anyway, after last weekend we might as well get a triple OT to top off this weekend. Great tourney this year.
