yea.. but i think illinois exercised their big comeback demon against arizona... UNC won't lay down (with lazy fucking passing) like arizona did at the end.

This was definately a fun season, with the exception of UNC winning the championship.

Mostly because it's my first year in college, here at FDU, and probably my most memorable moment was the NEC Championship game which they won on ESPN2 and I got to run on the court. And watching guys that I know giving the #1 team in the nation, Illinois a run for their money was great.

And of course no one expected Duke to do much this year. But, they wound up winning another ACC championship and making the sweet 16. Still dissapointing though, but we'll be back next year!

2006 - Watch out for FDU and Duke!!

Tonight was such an awesome night. I was pinched so I know it happened.

Even at halftime I knew it was going to turn into a hell of a game. Illinois was a great team and there is no way they were going to lay down when its all on the line.

May and Felton, May and Felton, May and Felton. I really hope they are both back next year, but if not ohh well because tonight they were the two players, May all game and Felton in the last 5 minutes, that restored Carolina to the state it had fallen from the past three years. Wow is this a great feeling.

To make it a better day for Felton he was named Bob Cousy Collegiate Point Guard Award Winner as the best point guard at any level of college basketball. EAT THAT CHRIS PAUL!

I hope two out of Felton, May, and Marvin stay, but if not ohh well. I'll take last night's win over everyone staying in school any day.

it happens from time to time. they lose seniors and the pollsters act as if the sky is falling. when they lost Drew Gooden in 2002 after losing to Maryland in the national semifinals people thought they had lost their best chance to win. the following year they made it to the championship game. they had good freshmen this year (Kaun, Giles, Robinson) are returning Moody and Giddens (who should be over his sophomore slump) and have what many consider to be the #1 recruiting class in the country. I don't expect them to be a top ten team right away, but by the end of the season they'll be a good team. all that being said, i think they're a top 25 team right away. we'll see.

The top recruiting class alone has the Jayhawks in the Top 25. Comes as kind of surprise, Katz usually is pretty fair with the Jayhawks. The loss of Galindo does kinda hurt though, as we dont have a natural SF to replace him with. I doubt very much that we'll be left out of the pre-season top 25, were the Jayhawks damnit...... but if we are its because we may have to start 3 frosh from scratch, reason enough to doubt early on. :shrug Theyre certainly gonna have to grow up awfully quick if theyre gonna want to compete in the Maui Invatational.

just found this on a recruiting website........

The University of Kansas Jayhawks have three players in the top 25 coming to Lawrence in the fall, Micah Downs, Mario Chalmers, and Julian Wright. These three will be filling the shoes of Wayne Simien, Aaron Miles, and Keith Langford, and I believe the newcomers are more talented as a trio.

"You don't need to worry about me staying one more year - you need to worry about some of the other guys staying one more year," he told the more than 11,000 fans at the Smith Center Tuesday afternoon.

May recorded 26 points and 10 rebounds in Monday night's title game. He was the tournament scoring leader, and set the UNC season record for rebounds with 397, topping Antawn Jamison (389 in 1997-98).

"We're going to try and come back and do it next year. Along with that, I'm going to try and get some of these other guys to come back with me," May said as the crowd roared in response.

I'm a Kansas fan in football too. it's tough, but i manage. they beat K-State last year for the first time in a long time. they had Texas beat until the refs realized that the Big XII stood to lose a few million dollars if that score held up. a couple of bullshit offensive intereference calls gave Texas the ball back and they scored with a few seconds left to win.

looks like the Chiefs have made a few moves on defense, if it works out they're definately a threat again this year.

Preseason Top 25: Sooners the better team
April 5, 2005
By Gregg Doyel
SportsLine.com Senior Writer
Tell Gregg your opinion!

Yes, Oklahoma. Absolutely, Oklahoma.

Oklahoma, which returns the top five scorers from this past season's 25-8 team, is CBS SportsLine.com's pick to win the 2006 national championship for three primary reasons:

Oklahoma's Nate Carter averaged 16 points and six rebounds in two seasons at UC Riverside. (Getty Images)
1. Nate Carter
2. Mike Neal
3. The 2005 NBA Draft

Carter is the 6-foot-6, 225-pound junior who redshirted this past season after transferring from UC Riverside. In two seasons there, he averaged 16 points and six rebounds per game. If that doesn't tell you how good he is, this should:

"Nate Carter would have started for us this season," Oklahoma coach Kelvin Sampson says.

Any more questions about Nate Carter?

As for Neal, he's a juco transfer along the lines of 2004-05 stars Taj Gray and Terrell Everett. The 6-4 Neal was considered the country's best juco shooting guard this season.

The NBA Draft is significant to the Sooners on two levels. One, Gray chose not to enter it; he'll enter 2005-06 as a candidate for national player of the year. Two, the other teams CBS SportsLine.com considered for the No. 1 ranking -- Duke, North Carolina, Connecticut and Louisville -- all could lose key players and/or recruits to the 2005 draft.

The CBS SportsLine.com Pre-Preseason Top 25:

1. Oklahoma: The last time the Sooners had this much talent and depth, they reached the 2002 Final Four. Oklahoma could have the country's best starting frontcourt next season in Gray, Carter and Kevin Bookout. The backcourt will be wicked deep with Everett, Neal, Lawrence McKenzie, Drew Lavender and David Godbold. That's eight quality players, and seven are juniors or seniors.

For the rest of the list:

I was meaning to do it today because of the dream I had last night. It was next year's opening game and the Tar Heels were playing Ohio State. Both May and McCants had stayed while Marvin and Felton went pro. The huge suprise of the game was Quentin Thomas. He went for 30 some points and 14 assists as the Heels rolled to a 15 point victory at the Dean Dome.

Yep, I saw it on the local news Sunday night. They said that McKenzie is leaving and that Lavender is considering leaving. I'm sure it has something to do with Terrel Everett and the juco shooting guard coming in. I guess they don't want to be backup contributors on a potentially great team. They will be tought to beat, but they would have been really tough to beat with five good guards. Hopefully Lavender wises up and sticks. He would share the point with Everett and it would be his as a senior. McKenzie was a great spark off the bench with his three point shooting.

In other news, my University of South Florida Bulls (in ESPN 2K5) are ranked #1 preseason for the third season in a row.

Charleston Southern: 6 years, 1 National Championship
Mount St. Mary's: 4 years, 1 National Championship
Illinois State: 11 years, 3 National Championships
USF: 6 years, 0 National Championships

I just want to get to Syracuse already. Hell, I'd take UConn if the game's version of Calhoun would just retire.

Third season in a row without cutting down the nets. Sounds like a coaching problem.

Third season in a row without cutting down the nets. Sounds like a coaching problem.

Last season I got screwed on a call by the refs with 1.2 seconds left in the NC game and ended up losing by a foul shot.

The first season, I wasn't as good as the #1 ranking as most of my quality players graduated.

The second season, I should have won but got knocked out early to the eventual champions.

not really. that's classic Wake. they have a good team every once in awhile with a couple of stars that gets a lot of hype, they make an early exit in the tournament then they go back to being Wake. a middle of the pack team in a really good conference that might be the third or fourth best team in the state of north carolina.

ATTENTION TARHEEL FANS!!!!

heard this on local sports talk radio as well as written on a local sports writer's website. it's not concrete but figured i'd share since word's been pretty quiet out of Chapel Hill in recent days.........

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
WILL THEY STAY OR WILL THEY GO?

Raymond Felton - Recently named the best point guard in America, Felton said yesterday, "Whatever's best for me, I'll do." That's fair enough. But, we can't imagine his stock being much higher. Some experts project him as a possible NBA lottery pick or at worst a first round pick. Fast as lightning point guards with a good shot don't come around too often. PREDICTION: GONE

Sean May - Did this guy's stock soar through the roof the last couple months? Awarded Regional and Finals MVP awards after dominating performances. Two months ago he said he was staying at UNC for sure. Yesterday he said, " There's no telling what might happen." His game just won't be nearly as good without Felton in the game. PREDICTION: GONE (if Felton goes)

Marvin Williams - He could go #1 in the draft and no worse than #3. PREDICTION: GONE (no doubt).

Rashad McCants - Well, he's already announced that he'll have a press conference very soon. May said yesterday, "I've known for awhile Rashad was leaving." PREDICTION: GONE

I've realized over the past week that everyone leaving is something that could very well happen. If anyone is likely to stay I'd think its May. He said last night, “I met with Coach [Roy Williams] last night, and right now, it’s pretty much the same thing,” which seems to indicate he is looking at staying. I think Marvin could reallly use another year before making the jump. He'd be a top 3 pick based on potential, but his offensive game isn't nearly as polished as it would need to be for him to succeed in the NBA. One more year could grately improve that. Both Felton and Marvin have made their decisons, just aren't ready to announce yet.

the reason i think it's possible is that even though May probably wants to stay, i don't think he's going to want to play his senior year without everyone else. If Felton stays, May stays. i don't see him staying with a new point guard. from a business standpoint, that could only hurt his draft stock.

Roy Williams has led UNC to the national championship, riding on the backs of Matt Doherty's recruits. He did his best to choke, blowing a 15 point halftime lead. But a couple well timed three pointers saved him.A hearty congratulations to the Tarheels for defeating Illinois 75-70 in the championship game.
It's not that difficult to endure the pain of another UNC championship. It has only happened four times in history. The bad thing is we'll have to endure all the bandwagoners coming out of the closet until the Tarheels lose to the EA All Stars in December....minus Marvin, May, McCants, and Raymond.
Next year: Quentin/Reyshawn/Hansbrough....sounds very similar to BMo/Capel/Lang. We can only hope. By the way...Carolina still sucks. The team is good, but the fans still suck.

A Record Breaking Tournament:

- UNC set a NCAA Tournament record for easiest path to the final game. No other team in history has failed to play at least a #4 seed before advancing to the championship game.

- Illinois' James Augustine set a Final Four record by fouling out after playing just nine minutes. No player has ever fouled out quicker unintentionally.

- The Illini almost set a Final Four record by only attempting 6 free throws. It is the second fewest total in history. UNLV holds the record of 5 FT attempts, set in 1977..........against UNC.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

obviously a little biased, but still funny if you don't take it seriously.

Legit, but very skewed. There is a reason Illinois shot so few free throws, and it wasn't biased reffing. The Illini absolutely refused to attack the basket during the game. And its not like Augustine didn't commit those fouls.

I did laugh though so mission accomplished by the writer.

I like Reyshawn to step up and do good things next year also. I think he's more a wing than Jawad. He's more athletic and has a better outside shot. Hopefully there won't be any growing pains in adjusting to a big time role.

McCants just made what was already widely known official and declared himself for the draft. I haven't heard if he is hiring an agent or not.

Florida's Anthony Roberson has also made himself eligible, but won't hire an agent. I don't seem him going back to Florida regardless of the fact that he'll be a second round pick.

good find.

Here's a list of some early entrees for the NBA with some notes added.

Hassan Adams Arizona Jr.
Kelenna Azubuike Kentucky Jr.
Andrew Bogut Utah So.
Brandon Bowman Georgetown Jr.
Ike Diogu Arizona St. Jr.
Francisco Garcia Louisville Jr.
Gerald Green Gulf Shores Academy Sr. HS
J.R. Morris Seton Hall Jr.
Charlie Villanueva Connecticut So.
Von Wafer Florida St. So.
Kennedy Winston Alabama Jr.

Only Bogut, Garcia and Villanueva have signed with agents. The rest haven't thus they can decide to go back to school if they don't like their draft position. I think that's a great rule. It gives a kid a chance to test the market yet not make him ineligible. Guys like Wafer and Bowman will probably not get draft and if they do it will be late 2nd round. Both of those guys should not have declared. They have a bunch of talent but need a little more seasoning especially Wafer who had a awful second half of the year. In fact he scored only six points the last four games of the season as Florida St imploded and lost 10 of their last 11 games.

NC State did, it was crazy. Tie game with only a few seconds on the clock, Engin Atsur hoisted a near half court heave which fell dreadfully short. Fortunately Julius Hodge was there to pick it up and throw it down to give State the 2 point win. Herb Sendek went running looking for someone to hug, and the campus went crazy...
