i can't either. i'll get to see how the "new" Jayhawks look. i'm expecting a rough start for them (playing all freshmen and sophomores) but think they'll be very good and flying under the radar come tourney time. from ESPN.....
Meanwhile, Kansas picked up the biggest catch of the summer when Brandon Rush (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/player/profile?playerId=28158) decided to withdraw from the NBA draft and chose Kansas over Illinois. Rush is a potential first-round pick in 2006 and will immediately help the Jayhawks' offensive execution.
This team will be young and quicker, but possibly unsure of its next step. There are so many fresh faces. As many as four freshmen could start --- Rush, Julian Wright (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/player/profile?playerId=27143), Micah Downs (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/player/profile?playerId=27142) and Mario Chalmers (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/player/profile?playerId=27141). There is oodles of talent, like Giles along the backline, Sasha Kaun (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/player/profile?playerId=22177) in the post with Darnell Jackson (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/player/profile?playerId=22178) as a backup, stable journeyman forward Christian Moody (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/player/profile?playerId=10926), backup point Russell Robinson (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/player/profile?playerId=22176) and veterans Jeff Hawkins (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/player/profile?playerId=7958) and USC transfer Rodrick Stewart (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/player/profile?playerId=15319). Putting these pieces together will be Bill Self's toughest coaching job in years. This team might look to run a bit more to take advantage of its athleticism.
This team could end up being a real force in March, but we just don't know how the freshmen will handle all the pressure of being the heralded recruiting class at a school like Kansas. If the Jayhawks can get over the inexperience issue by January, they could be sitting on a potential deep run come March.

again, i may have already said this here...UNC will be down this year, but the 2006-2007 season, they will be in the top3. as far as recruiting classes go, theirs is at the top in the history of recruiting. there will be expectations to win a title in 2 seasons.
if indeed all commitments do follow through next month. they have the #1 PG, #1 SG, #1 PG, #2 C, #13 C and #58 PF...plus Hansboro who is a PF this year, who should be UNC best player this year...a 6'9'' PF. these are the rivals.com rankings for each player.

The UNC class is looking really tight.
The Syracuse class for 2006-2007 is good so far. Our two recruits, Paul Harris and Mike Jones are both SF ranked at #3 and #10 respectively at the position and #10 and #34 overall. Combined with Devendorf and the Wrights and we should have a really solid team.

Last night Jim Calhoun got his first Technical Foul of the season 1:31 into the game on the way to a 109-62 win over Byrant. Players come and go but some things stay the same :)
Freshman Guard Craig Austrie also looked pretty good, which is great because until Marcus Williams comes back in Jan. that's all they got
It's still very early, but it looks like it going to be an exciting season. Calhoun has said this is his quickest team in 10 years.

Damn, its been a long, long time since I peaked my head in here. ROCK CHALK. Sigh, that felt good....Bucknell took a lot more out of me than I thought, though the White Sox were quite good to me all season long to forget any of those memories. Forgive me, fellow Preaseason NCAA Basketball thread subscribers, for I have sinned. I attended Jelly's Midnight Madness this year. While it was quite cool to see, and Rondo is a stud, I still recognize it as a sin. I was still proud to wear my Crimson and Blue in Rupp.... afterall, the man is a Jayhawk. I feel its gonna be a rough transition early on for my boys in Lawerence, especially with the difficult Maui tourney out of the gates. Kansas hasnt seen this much McDonalds talent since 'Nam, its gonna be a fun young bunch to watch. I wouldnt write them off in the Big XII just yet, but Texas and Oklahoma are gonna be reals tough. I liked Villanova as a favorite coming into this season, obviously Sumpter bowing out again is a huge blow. I'd like to say UConn has enough even with the loss of good ole Charlie, Rudy can carry this team to where they need to be. The Big East is gonna be outstanding to follow this year.

UNC laid a beating on Fayeteville State Friday night, 94-58. Look at this starting lineup though...
F David Noel
F Reyshawn Terry
C Tyler Hansbrough
G Wes Miller
G Quentin Thomas
Yikes. This could be a long season in the ACC. Hansbrough scored 26, which is promising. By the end of the year, Hansbrough will emerge as one of the best players in the ACC, and Reyshawn Terry will become one of the most improved players in the country. Noel will be serviceable, but the backcourt of Miller and Thomas is what worries me. Hopefully they can become better with experience.

that game lost a lot of appeal to me when Curtis Sumpter went down for the year with another knee injury. it'll be a good one, but Duke vs. Texas in the best right now. depending on how Maui shapes up, there could be a few dandies out there with a field that includes....

Michigan St. (#5)

LAWRENCE, Kan. - Kansas forward Darnell Jackson has been suspended for the Jayhawks' first nine games for receiving about $5,000 in benefits from a booster.
The university said Tuesday night that it reported the matter to the NCAA in June after receiving an anonymous tip. It said the NCAA agreed to restore Jackson's eligibility after he sits out the suspension.
The university said benefits to Jackson and his family included transportation, meals and lodging, gifts and a personal loan between 2002 and this year.
Jackson will be required to repay the full value of the benefits. He'll be eligible to play when the Jayhawks meet Northern Colorado on Dec. 22.
Jackson, a 6-foot-8 sophomore, averaged two points last season.

Was pleased to see that they have obviously been working on there induvidual games in the off season, and the freshmen are going to be sick this season. Can't wait to see them in the years to come. Odd to see that Williams only played a whole 16-17 minutes (not that he needed to play more). Seton Hall has some work to do if they want to make even the NIT at the end of the year. LOl, that's deserved... hell, I expected much more out of them, especially with 2 warmup games before last night and the way Syracuse looked in its first game. A long season it is indeed.... I dont know what to make of this Tech team after last night though, traditional Knight team's would not have quit that game, it was pretty evident that is what took place seconds after halftime last night, if not before then after 20-4 run. Maybe my Spartans aren't as good as I thought. Hawaii - Ouch!!!The Big 3 for State - Brown, Ager and Davis all left the game with severe cramping. The bench is weak - they definitely not as deep as they were last year - which led to the blowout. I think it was a fluke but we'll see though with upcoming week.

Their Big East schedule is pretty difficult. They have to play at Syracuse, at Louisville, at Villanova, at West Virginia and they also have home games against Syracuse, Louisville and Villanova. Right now, I agree with you. I say that is because their lack of experience in their backcourt. Freshmen Craig Austrie and Rob Garrison looked a little shaky under Pepperdine’s pressure the other night and I’m sure Arkansas (and every other team) was paying attention. But that is it, the rest of the team is as solid as any in the country. If the freshmen can hold it together and get some experience that will make UConn pretty damn good when Williams returns in Jan. and they start playing those Big East teams

WVU is a solid team. They should have won last night. They didn't make hteir foul shots and they didn't shoot as well as they can from behind the arc. They are capable of shooting over 50% from 3 point land, but instead only shot 39%.

Not as bad as last year's elite 8 against Louisville in amount, but up 3 points with the ball and only 30 seconds and miss 2 front ends of a 1 and 1 and then get the final shot blocked. They really need to learn to close out games if they want to contend in the Big East or they'll end up a lower level team fighting for a NCAA berth.

Being a UConn fan, the best part of last nights game for me was seeing Rashad Anderson out there playing some good minutes, scoring and just having fun again out on the court.
Mainly because of what he went through last year, but also because when he is on, he has a swagger and confidence that is contagious. His leadership and drive was something that was sorely missed on last years team when things got tough. Just the way he looked at the camera last night and said they were going to win it all this year has me feeling pretty darn good about this season.
Here’s to a great game tonight

don't talk shit on Morrison's serial killer 'stache. It is a intimidation mechanism and more powerful than anything that Jake Plummer could grow on any given day. I find it hard to believe that the Zags are better without Turiaf, but they are. Morrison is ice cold.

the new ESPN poll is out. not much changed at the top, but NC State has managed to sneak into the top 25 just in time for the ACC/Big Ten challenge this week.:rolleyes even UNC has begun to garner some support with 23 points in the new poll which puts them at #31 in the country. Has anyone seen this team play yet? they are horrible. to have them receiving any votes just because they've beat a few crappy teams is a joke. they needed a three pointer with 1 second left to beat Gardner Webb, and there are people out there who actually believe that they are one of the top 25 teams in the country? what ever happened to voting on the team and not they uniform?

Our perimeter shooting has been fine.
Nichols has stepped up and has been huge for us so far this season. He is leading the team, averaging 15 points and shooting 36.6% from the perimeter.
Devendorf is shooting 37.5% from outside, McCroskey is shooting 50%, Rautins 33% and lastly McNamara is shooting 30% from outside. Once McNamara starts shooting better, our perimeter offense will be great.
We are averaging 32.6% as a team on 3-pt shots which is comprable to what we have shot in previous years. Last season we averaged 31.3%, 03-04 we averaged 32.8%, 02-03 we averaged 34.4%, 01-02 we averaged 33.3% and in 00-01 we averaged 33.5%.

Nike has a group of "Elite" schools that have something different on their uniforms every year than other schools. usually it's very subtle (like that little silver hologram looking thing at the bottom of the V neck). Elite schools are teams that have been to a Final Four since the early nineties i believe. not sure on the exact year, but somewhere around then.

I was impressed with the Heels last night. Illinois is definitely overranked, but for North Carolina to hang with a team of their caliber this early in the season is a great sign. I think they're going to be more competitive in the ACC than most people expect. Ginyard and Hansbrough looked great last night, and I think Frasor will develop into a great player by the end of the year.

Syracuse faces Manhattan tonight at the Dome. I think this is the third or fourth season in a row that we have played Manhattan at some point and I have always been impressed with how Bobby Gonzalez always has his kids ready to play against us and tonight should be no exception.
I'll be interested to see how the defense looks tonight as they have been focusing a lot on the baseline defense in that zone as we were getting beating pretty bad down there.
