Kansas is getting a lot better. Kentucky has been exposed as a fraud. mix those two together and you get a 27 point ass whoopin'.
KU has the #1 FG% defense in the country. lack of consisency on offense, turnovers, and not having a go to guy at the end of games has cost them some close ones. 3 of their 4 losses are by a combined 7 points. they could easily be 12-1 right now, but they're young and learning on the go.

As weak as the conference is this year they should finish no worse then fourth and as high as first. I think texas will win it, but who knows.

Yeah, I forgot about the Alabama game, but then we went back to crap almost losing to SMU and then today. We get a decent lead and then can't hold it. We almost blew it at Tulsa, we did blow it against ORU and rallied back, we beat SMU by a measly 3, and then blew the lead today. And there were others against inferior competition that were a lot closer then they should have been.
You're right, the guards need to realize who the go to guys are on this team, and it's not them.
I can't imagine what it is like for Gray and Bookout. They work their tails off on the offensive glass rebounding all those misses and giving those guys opportunities but the guards never give them the darn ball.
Kelvin needs to swallow his pride and sit a couple of them down for a game and just bite the bullet. Say, "this is how we play, and if you don't like it, you can just sit there for the rest of the year."
I think Sampson is the best coach in America at taking mediocre players and making great teams out of them. I think this year, he has too many great players and doesn't know what to do with them. Something needs to change, and I think Sampson is good enough to turn it around.
I think we will win the Big XII still, get a 3 seed and lose in the Sweet Sixteen.

Last year was actually a surprise. I don't think anyone expected a conference championship and a three seed. The tournament was disappointing, but overall, they exceded expectations. This year though, I was expecting a Final Four.

In my "preseason final four" Oklahoma was one of them. With MSU, Duke, and Nova. Oklahoma might be able to make a run in the tournament, but I'm becoming more and more skeptical at that pick as the season progresses. We'll see though.
MSU/Wisconsin today, let's see if they can pull it together and make up for that Illinois loss. They might actually pass ILL-INI in the rankings if they win this game. Thanks Iowa.

I was expecting a final four as well. Seeing as how this team plays together now, I think a Sweet Sixteen is what we are looking at. I am not losing faith, but unless some changes are made, this is not a final four caliber team.

:confused The voters would be ignorant to do something like that. Sure, MSU may ultimately be better than the Illini, but your loss earlier this week to us should have dropped you at least 4 spots, giving the Illini some cushion to fall on.

1. Duke is good. i knew they were good, but you shouldn't be able to beat a ranked team on their home court, in conference play that bad.
2. Kentucky sucks. Kansas is getting better, but not that much better. that beating was uncalled for and showed a lack of heart by Kentucky.
3. the ACC, Big Ten, and Big East are going to be very fun to watch this year. anybody beating anybody on a given night. i love it.

UNC moved up to #20 in the polls. I thought we'd jump NC State and possibly George Washington (#18 and #19 respectively), but oh well. I'm thrilled with how this season has gone so far. Sports Illustrated picked us to miss the tourney, and here we sit at #20 in mid-January. The ACC schedule is going to be VERY tough, but I think UNC will play well enough to at least get a tourney bid. 2-1 against Top 25 opponents so far.

Oklahoma's phone bill gets NCAA's attention
Jan. 8, 2006
By Gregg Doyel
CBS SportsLine.com Senior Writer
The NCAA's look into the Oklahoma basketball program has every element of the modern-day NCAA investigation, including the 21st century smoking gun: a phone bill.
The NCAA alleges the OU coaching staff made more than 550 impermissible calls to recruits from April 2000 to September 2004. Oklahoma issued self-imposed sanctions, including two years of probation and a three-scholarship reduction.
With the NCAA chillingly not accepting those sanctions as being firm enough, Oklahoma faces the Infractions Committee in April.
Meanwhile, CBS SportsLine.com's investigation shows this case looks like so many others. The usual cast of characters:

Absolutely not. I bet one of the games go into overtime (prolly at UNC). I love it when they play three times in a year. :thumbsup
I think my all-time favorite game to watch was the D-OT where Capel hit the running 45 footer at the end of the first overtime. UNC was supposed to trounce Duke and they hung tough. It was pretty funny, because I was in a bar and they wanted me out because I was under 21 and it was late, but they kind of knew me from watching other games and let me stay. When I turned 21 I made it up to them though. I think I probably spent about 1/2 my earnings during the college years there. Good times.

If someone can keep Redick remotely in control and Hansbrough, who has been getting to the free throw line like its going out of style, can get Sheldon in foul trouble the Heels could possibly make it a game.
I'm excited to see how they do in their first ACC road game of the year tonight. VaTech is beatable, but will be a tough game. More Bobby Fraser and less Quentin Thomas.

That's my problem with Danny Green. As a scorer, he's been great at times (17 points vs. Gardner Webb, 12 vs. Santa Clara, 15 vs. UNC Asheville), but against the tough opponents, he has basically disappeared (5 vs. Illinois, 5 @ Kentucky, 2 vs. NC State). I have been very impressed with his rebounding though... he's averaging 8.67 per game over the last three, which leads the team.

I certainly think we have a great shot of beating K St. but we have never played very well down there. So if we come out and put on the effort we did against OU, this team might be legit.
beating K-State will NEVER give you an indication of how good you are in the Big XII. they have been on or near the bottom of the Big XII for as long as i can remember. don't let that crappy non conference schedule that K-State has played fool you into thinking they're as good as their record. Nebraska should win that game.

but that's my point. Nebraska has routinely had the better team than Kansas St. and has always struggled in Mannatten. Road games like this (i.e. ones we should win) have always been a stub your toe type game. If Nebraska want's to show that they belong in the Big 12, we'll win in easily.
I know Kansas St. games aren't used as measuring stick games (those are reserved for OSU, Kansas and Texas games) but it's seemed that this type of game has alway kept us from taking that next step in the conference.

actually, the really long streak is at their place.
they last beat us in Lawrence on 01.17.94. the last time they beat us in Manhattan was on 01.29. 83! the overall streak itself is up to 30 games i think overall. that could end this year too.

I was close on one prediction last night. I predicted Reddick to have 28, but Duke to only win by nine, not 24. Maryland looked horrible last night.
I thought the "Sweat Gary Sweat" chant was pretty funny. As well as the "Not Our Rivals."
Nelson looked NICE before he re-injured his foot. When they were flashing to him on the bench after the injury, he looked pretty down. I am thinking he is going to be out a while again. That is not good for the Dukies.

Most of the time, players have shootaround at 10 am or so, get done with that at 12, eat a pregame meal, have three hours of free time and have to be at the gym at 5:30 for a 7 pm tip off.
At least that is how it works at OU.

That game was bullcrap. I was there and was ready to stone the ref on that last play.
A&M swarmed OU all game long. They were the better team up until the last 2 min of the game. OU is one good PG away from being a really, really good team. A&M needs to work on defending the three. Bookout was playing dirty with some of the screens and some elbows that he was throwing, but he sure can seal off the lane, and he uses every inch of his body in the paint:thumbsup
What is so frustrating is the fact that A&M's two confrence losses are combined for a total of 3pts. The first half of confrence play is toughest on our schedule, and we should be 3-0 right now.

Yeah, we have no perimeter shooting, so all opponents have to do is pack it inside or play a zone. That's why we can't score. Everett isn't a point guard, but he played the point last year and was the team's best player the last ten games of the season. For some reason he just doesn't have it right now.
I didn't get to watch the whole game, was OU's defense that good or A&M's offense that bad or both. OU really hasn't been that good defensively this year compared to past years.

OU's defense was great inside. A&M really had to work to get the ball in, but Acie Law was getting inside the lane and getting good looks fairly easy. That game wasn't as bad as it looked. A&M did force plenty of turnovers, and they also slowed the game down a lot with their offensive play. The game was not a sprinting, fast paced game.
K. Sampson is a great coach, so I wouldn't worry too bad about this game. OU brought it when it counted, and played very well the last few minutes when they were down and on the road.
A lot of people are also overlooking A&M. Gillispie is one hell of a coach, and he is recruiting TX like no other. We have an impressive class coming in, and are going to be a force in the BigXII. Hell we went from 0-16 in 2003, to the NIT quaterfinals in one year. I'm excited about basketball here now:thumbsup

You know even though SU got handled. They showed some heart playing till the end and getting it to 6 down. Now as for three big men fouling out that's just ridiculus. They got some things to work out if they wanna do good in the big east tourney and in march.

Since before the season started I said it was going to be a Duke/UCONN Natty title... or atleast in the final 4. It would be a hell of a battle. UCONN has what... 3 maybe 4 NBA first rounders? Duke has 2 maybe 3 depending on Josh. The matchups are awesome. I like Dukes "hustle" and "effort" a little more, but it would be a hell of a battle.
Hopefully I wont throw a dictionary at the TV like I did in 2004 when UCONN won 79-78.

The one thing I can't stand about officiating is when it is inconsistent. Last night I saw a lot of inconsistencies with touch fouls being called on one end and tough fouls in the paint not being called on the other.
With that being said, you can't go down 20 points against a team like UConn and expect to actually win the game. We shot pathetically. We took really bad shots during the first half and were laxidasical on the defensive end.
We need to pick up one of the next two and I don't know if that is going to be possible. It's such a tough Big East this year and unfortunately we probably have the most difficult schedule of all of the top teams in the league.

Having played in college, that is the absolute worst. You can get used to a physical game or touch foul type game, but when there are calls that are all over the place, it is tough to find a rhythm.

you're Texas A&M. every game is a must win for you. name and reputation won't get you in if you're a bubble team.
KU can go 8-5 the rest of the way in the Big XII and probably still make it in. that would put them at 18-11. a win or two in the Big XII tourney would seal it, but they've still got their work cut out for them. if they could learn how to finish close games, this wouldn't even be a discussion. of their six losses, five of them have been by four points or less. if they could shoot free throws and cut back on the turnovers, they could easily be 15-1 right now.

:lol Well if you give A&M four pts spread out over two games, we're sitting at the top of the BigXII with wins over Tech, OU, and OSU. If you really think A&M is anything like it was 2 yrs ago, you're in for a shock. You of all people should know that, being as Gillispie is a product of Bill Self. The BigXII won't be sending nearly as many teams to the tourny as they did last year at the rate it's going, so riding your schools reputation might not cut it this year.

reguardless of how strong the conference is, one thing remains true. if your school is named, Duke, UNC, Kentucky or Kansas and you're on the bubble, you're probably going to get the nod. i don't want it to come to that, i'd much rather get on a hot streak and play their way in. but i wouldn't be upset if they got in based on reputation. they're talented enough to make a run if they get in. the tournament committee looks at that. (see UNC in 2000). they had 18 wins, struggled most of the year, got the last at large bid as an 8 seed and made it to the Final Four.

So my aunt is the best! She called my mom from the Villanova game tonight because the people that were near her were looking to get rid of tickets for the Syracuse game this weekend. They have a pair that they are getting rid of and my aunt called to see if we wanted them.
So now I have tickets guaranteed for the game. They should be first level, and they are only going to cost me $22 each. That is just fantastic! Now, if my other uncle comes through I will have 4 more tickets for the game and some of my buddies can go.

I wouldn't be using Bill Self to promote your coach, although Gillispie is doing an outstanding job. Bill Self sucks. Way overrated.
Are you kidding? He won the Big Ten title in his first two years at Illinois. Didn't he also take Tulsa to the Elite Eight, and then take Illinois there the very next season? How is that not good coaching? If you look at all the schools he's been at, he's turned them around to be winning programs. If yall think he sucks because of what's going at Kansas, I think that's stupid. Look who he was following as a head coach. It's not like Kansas was struggling or anything. It's got to be damn hard to keep a program like that at the very top. Every once in a while, you're going to have a gap with young inexperienced kids. Kansas has a ton of fresh and soph this year.
Also lets get one thing straight. Coaches learn much of the game of basketball from people they were assistants under and such. Each coach, regardless of where they come from, is going to have their own coaching style. Gillispie coaches in a way similar to Bobby Knight (who I think is a great coach) minus all the attitude and anger problems. On the other side, he learned basketball in many ways from Bill Self, who in turn learned a lot of basketball from some great coaches. Bill Self was an assistant under Larry Brown at Kansas. He learned a lot of basketball being under him. He was an assistant under Eddie Sutton too. Both of those coaches have proven track records and play a style of basketball you can teach any team you're given. The stress good fundemental defense and don't tolerate any lackluster effort. I don't know how you could think Self is a bad coach given everything he's done.

Regardless of of if talent is there or not, you still have to be a good coach to win. For example, Melvin Watkins went 0-16, and the following year Gillispie took a very similar team to the NIT quaterfinals losing a close game to St. Joe's. That was all a result of coaching.
And as seeupig said, those fresh and soph at Kansas are all Bill Self's kids. The reason why they are struggling this year is the youth and inexperience. Just give them a year (two yrs tops) and they will be back atop the BigXII

We'd take Bill Self here at Missouri any day of the week. Oh wait, we turned him down for the mighty Quinn.:twak
I think that Self has lost some of his luster the last couple of years what with last year's early exit from the tourney and the sluggish start they are getting off to this season. But I still think he has some redeeming qualities, like has already been stated he bagged the kids that Weber used to get to StL last season for one. But as far as who you coached under translating success as a head coach...just look how much good Coach K's tutelage has done Snyder.

Brandon Rush won't be there next year, so they need to get it together now.
Where exactly will he be next year? With the way he's been playing this year I can't imagine he'll be drafed that high even with a weaker class. I know that everyone assumed he would enter the last draft and when he signed with kU everyone else(Tigers included) was telling themselves"it's OK, we didn't want him, he'll only be around for a year":rolleyes. But so far I don't think he has really knocked anyone's socks off and if anything I'd say his stock has fallen alittle. Granted it's early in the season and he can still prove alot, especially in March when it matters(assuming kU gets it toghether and makes it in the tourney).
just my .02,
Rob
