i'm with you on that one. the only difference between UNC and KU right now is their respective brackets. i'd take UNC in a hearbeat if they were in Oakland.
:thumbsup They most likely have to play Mich. St. in the second round and have to deal with UConn. I'm not too worried about Tennesse though. I know they're a decent team, but they're very beatable.

i don't see that one happening. they always play good early in the year, then their lack of competition in the WCC makes them worse as other teams are getting better.
i've actually got them getting upset in the first round by Xavier.:lol
one of our brackets is in deep shit.:lol

it was more a cheap shot at UNC than you. i was just playing either way. there's no bad picks right now, this is the most wide open tournament i can remember trying to pick.
I know. I agree with how wide open it is, you could fill in 25 different brackets and not have a winner.

Nope. I have a feeling I'll be getting the Kentucky-UAB game where I'm at, meaning no UNC for me. $60 is pretty steep for essentially one weekend of basketball games, so I might just have to keep my eye on the score.

that sucks. the digital cable in Raleigh has the set up. the channels in the 200's that usually show 24 hour weather and news for the local CBS station turn into basketball channels during the tourney. we usually get two tv's, throw on the picture in picture and watch all games at the same time. :thumbsup

that one is tough. memphis has the talent but not the style to run all the way, can kansas keep their run going? maybe. is gonzaga really good enough even with their conference that weak? is ucla the surprise because nobody has really talked about them all year? I love all the people that are picking BC to go to the final four. I know they're coming in hot, and I admit I was tempted as well. But guys, THEY DON'T PLAY DEFENSE. Same goes with Gonzaga. These teams aren't going anywhere unless they learn what that word means this week.

Why does everyone give me wierd looks when i say UNC has the ability to beat uconn. I realize how inexperienced they are but theyve proved all year they can play with the best. I dont care how inexperienced they are as longm as Hansbourough plays like he does theyre going to be a brakcet buster. Everyone riding the UCONN bandwagon is going down hill.
My final Four:
Duke
Kansas
UCONN/UNC?
BC
I think Gonzaga is overrated. They are 1-3 against the top 25 and they almost lost to a 14-11 team that they should have beat by 30 points. Adam Morrison makes them better than they are and I feel a quick 2nd round exit. My only problem with my brackets is I dont have a 12-5 upset. Everyone is taking Texas A&M but Gery and the boys are playing like champions and I can't leave out my boys. Someone help me in my 12-5 department

in your final four, put UConn through. you can't have three ACC teams in the final four, and UConn is a pretty safe bet.
as far as the 12-5 goes, i have two. A&M over 'Cuse (Syracuse isn't any better now than they were a week ago when they were on the bubble. they just got hot and made some shots for a few days, it won't last.) the other one i have is Utah St. over Washington. Utah St. likes to slow the tempo down A LOT and that has the potential to frustrate a team like UW that likes to get out and run, and force them into a halfcourt offense as well as lull them to sleep when on defense.

Well, I was curious and bored so I decided to set up a simulation of this year's tourney on NCAA 2K6 for 360 earlier today. Here's how it turned out:
Notable first round upsets:
Air Force over Illinois
Utah St. over Washington
Winthrop over Tennessee
UW-Milwaukee over OU
Iona over LSU
NW St. over Iowa
Bradley over Kansas
Xavier over Gonzaga
Also, it had Kentucky beating UConn and GW beating Duke in the second round. As for the Final Four:
Texas
Alabama
Mich. St.
Nova
Championship: Alabama over Mich. St.
I was hoping maybe the game could provide me some realistic insight, but I was wrong.:lol

No, but I don't think its fair that a conference tournament champion has to play in the play-in game. It should be the 2 worst at large teams.

Do you consider winning the play-in game an NCAA Tournament victory?
No way. It's a play-in game (though they refuse to call it that) and shouldn't count as an NCAA Tournament victory. I really think they need to cut the field back down to 64 and eliminate the play-in game. It's not fair to those two schools to work hard all year and then not even really get to play in the tournament. I know that would eliminate one at large bid, but would anyone really care if Air Force had been left out so that both of these schools could get their chance to play on Thursday or Friday?

Those are the same two 12-5 upsets that I have in mine. Great minds think alike. :D
Whoever said BC is overrated is correct. Al Skinner has done pretty much nothing in the tournament, and I don't think that's going to change much this year. Like I said, they play prison ball. They have the ability to shut down an inside scorer, so teams that rely on that are going to struggle with them (see UNC). I think their weaknesses will be exposed early in the tournament.
As for UConn-UNC, if UConn shows up and plays hard, I think UNC would have a very tough time keeping up. If UConn turns in yet another half assed performance, UNC would have a great shot at beating them. Unlike UConn, UNC always gives their best effort, and I think that could make a difference if they met up.

Duke as an insanely easy bracket until they get to the Elite 8. I'd take a Pitt, Illinois, Boston College or Kansas to beat them in the Sweet 16 if they were there. I'd even take West Virginia to beat them if they were a 5 seed.

Hey Primo, you think you could break down your 'Cuse team before the game tonight. I thought it would be cool if you could point out some strengths/weaknesses you've seen throughout the season. I know of pretty much nothing about yakk besides your run through the Big East tourny which was awesome to see. When I get up in the morning, I'll give you a solid breakdown of the Aggies, and point out some things to look for in the game.
With Syracuse it has really been a tale of two seasons. What you saw in the Big East tournament isn't even close to what Syracuse's potential is. The problem is that this team has not played to it's potential at all this year and that is why they were on the outside of the bubble before the Big East Tournament.
Syracuse starts three Juniors, a Freshman and the lone Senior on the team, Gerry McNamara. Everyone knows about McNamara. His last second heroics have been evidenced in the Big East Tournament. His ability to take over a game was shown in the 2003 National Championship game when he dropped 6 threes on Kansas and again in 2004 when he dropped 43 on BYU. For the most part, McNamara can score. The only team that shuts him down with any regularity is UConn.
McNamara improved his game this season by learning how to distribute the ball much more efficiently than he had in the past. Last year, all that he had to do was get the ball inside to Hakim and let Hakim make a few moves. This year, the players around him have not realized their potential and he has had trouble getting others involved in the offense at times.
The other starting guard is Freshman Eric Devendorf. Eric is an interesting beast because he came in hyped up to be a lights out three point shooter. He is shooting 38.9% from behind the arc mainly because when his deep shots aren't falling he has the ability to put the ball on the floor and take it to the basket. He is a pretty complete player offensively although he allows his emotions to control him to his disadvantage at times. His biggest problem is his defense. He played very soft defense for a lot of the year and at times seemd to not care about making it out on the shooters.
Our frontcourt is where we have had the most problems this season. The three Juniors in the starting lineup, Demetris Nichols, Terrence Roberts and Darryl Watkins have not particularly played cohesively until the Big East Tournament.
Demetris Nichols is a pretty decent shooter who has to get hot early to have a good game. If he makes his first few baskets he will typically be lights out for the night. If he missess early, look for Boeheim to go to someone else for a period of time to get Nichols back on his game. Nichols is a pretty decent defender and with his long arms is able to get out on shooters pretty fast.
Terrence Roberts plays with a lot of heart but unfortunately he hasn't really lived up to the expectations. The Junior recruiting class came in to Syracuse with a lot of hype and frankly they haven't lived up to it. Terrence can have a solid inside game simply because of his size. He doesn't always have the best hands or even the best moves, but he is typically in the right place at the right time. His biggest weakness is that he will put the ball on the floor instead of going straight up with it when he gets a rebound inside. I've never been particularly impressed with his defensive abilities. He doesn't seem to understand how to help out on defense without drawing a foul or allowing the baseline.
Darryl Watkins is easily my most improved player on the team. Again he was another Junior who came in with a lot of hype and really hasn't produced the kind of results that we were hoping for. Mookie is a solid defender who averages just under three blocks a game. Against Cornell he registered 8 blocks and his defensive presence can be overwhelming. Earlier in the season he would foul instead of making good defensive plays. Since then, he has learned to play defense without fouling and it has really seen an increase in his minutes. While he is here to play defense he has learned to play offense as well. He has now strung together 8 or 9 incredible games where he has shown a lot of patience and a lot of what we would like to see from our big players. He has learned to go right up with the ball and somehow has been able to hold on to most of the passes that McNamara has been throwing at him which was a major problem earlier in the season.
Off the bench, Syracuse really only goes two or three deep. The three players that you are likely to see are Josh Wright, Louie McCroskey and Matt Gorman.
Josh is a one guard whose development was hampered by an injury early in the season which caused him to miss three games in a row and saw him play limited minutes in the next four. Prone to turnovers, Josh typically is only brought in to give Gerry or Eric a rest and lately we have seen Louie coming in more for Eric with Josh giving Gerry a rest.
Louie McCroskey is lucky to still be on the Syracuse team. Earlier this year he got into an altercation with Boeheim over his role on the team and actually left the team for a few days. Cooler heads prevailed and he came back to the team and is a solid role-player for us. Louie, at 6'5" is our best rebounder. He plays without fear and somehow is able to pull down rebounds when he has towers all around him. Louie is a fantastic slasher although his decisions are sometimes poor. Playing limited minutes, he often takes shots that he shouldn't simply because he wants to show his ability to the coaches. Louie is also a great defender and with him at the top of the zone, shooters are often unable to get off good shots.
Matt Gorman is a redshirt Junior. He redshirted last year due to Hakim Warrick being ridiculous. Matt is a solid contributor who fights for every ball. He is a solid rebounder and has a fantastic shot. He can hit deep threes and can work the inside if he gets the minutes.
The biggest overall problem for this team is the defense. If the defense doesn't show up, like against DePaul, the team will struggle. However, if they are playing solid defense they can beat anyone in the country.
Foul shooting is also an issue. We were the worst foul shooting team in the Big East this season and if it doesn't go to McNamara or Devendorf it probably isn't going in. The team as a whole shot 64% from the charity stripe with McNamara shooting 90%. McNamara is the best free throw shooter in Big East history and without him our average would be dismal.
Finally, if the game is close, within two or three points, McNamara is going to hit the game-winning/tying shot. He is the most clutch player I have ever seen and his will to win is greater than anyone that I have seen in a long time.

Quoting you only cuz your another Duke fan....
I got fucking AMPED last night watching College Gamenight. Not sure if you caught it or not. Just the way Coach K was talking about the team and how they are more energized and ready both emotionally and physically than they have been all year. How last years squad was simply drained going into the tourney and how they dont compare to this years squad. The thing is I believe him cuz he tells the truth with shit like that. If it was the opposite he'd say "we arent as ready as we were last year, but hopefully something works out"
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I love THE BIG DANCE!!!! :multi

its like team after team they kept advancin', if your see Carmelo Anthony please start chantin' "one more year" dawg we need your here, cut him a check, tell him you love him, buy him a beer, cuz if these teenage kids keep playin like grown men, then next year we just goin' do it again,
(you better) 'cuse yourself in the moment, you hold it, you own it, your underfeted in the dome.

we were good in the beginin', the mood all changed, best 'cuse basketball team ever arranged,
they just kept fallin' and kept shootin' and kept dunkin', rollin' over number 1 seeds like it was nothin',
best believe if we need a 3 it was comin ,from the man who fans packed up 15 buses, to come to the games, everyone wanted to see freshman playin like verterans you gotta believe.
2 and O out in Boston and in Albany, won it all in New Orleans for all too see, nobody picked this team seeded 3 to win it all except 'cuse fans and Dicky V, King Anthony best player, best team in the nation, sing it out loud, give 'em a standing ovation.

i have so many brackets this year, it's crazy. and i'm someone who will change them up a bit. my elite 8/final 4 usually remains pretty consistent, but i switch up the other rounds. whichever one of my brackets is doing the best at my office at the end of the weekend will become my main one, because first place gets about $500.

Here you go Primo. My A&M breakdown.
A&M is a team who has emerged under a great young coach, Billy Gillispie. This team is a reflection of their coach's philosophy; tough defense, all-out hustle. I'm willing to bet the majority of the teams in the Tourny are more talented than A&M, even with a future 1-2 round draft pick on the roster in Joseph Jones. The reason why A&M wins games is because they play strong defense, and they give themselves a chance to win at the end of a low scoring game usually. When A&M beat UT, they couldn't hit shots to save their lives, but defense kept the score low and gave them a chance to win at the end. A&M at times has problems with Zone Defense. It seems a lot of the time the ball will circle the perimeter without going inside at all. If this team stands around the perimeter while Jones never gets the ball inside, there will be problems. They seem to be doing better against this during their winning streak to end the season, so I don't know how big of a factor this will be.
A&M starts two soph (Kirk & Jones), two juniors (Pompey & Law), and one senior (Walker).
For player by player break down.....
Joseph Jones. Jones is the best player on this team.... when he's not in foul trouble. Foul trouble has been his only downside this whole year. He is a VERY physical 6'9'' post down low. He seals off his man very well and is a good rebounder. He's got a decent midrange jumper that can bring his man out some from inside. He'll spend the majority of the time down low if SU plays a man on him, and he'll get the ball a little higher up sometimes when SU plays zone. Jones scored 31 on LaMarcus Aldridge(top 3 draft pick) at Austin and played toe-to-toe with him at A&M. He's a decent shot blocker on defense and usually doesn't have problems with big men he's matched up against.
Acie Law. Law is the leader of this team. He's by far our best ball handler and one of the best defenders (he might gaurd McNamara at times). He's an athletic defender who usually won't be beat off the dribble. As a point gaurd, he's not looking to score right away, but the ball finds it way back to him in the offense. He moves well off of a screen, and can get inside well. He's got a solid floater inside the paint, and can use his right hand just as well as his left hand. He has a solid 3 ball also which can light up our team.
Josh Carter. I put him thrid because he's usually our third leading scorer. Carter has an awesome stroke from 3 (the best on the team), and that's usually his role on offense. He'll stretch the Zone defense out and keep people honset on the perimeter. He doesn't create inside or cut to the basket real well, so he usually will get the ball when we swing the ball across to him to set up a shot. He won't play too much though if he doesn't bring the defense. Defense was a problem for him early(he's a true freshman still learning), but he has gotten much better and progressed during the year.
Dominique Kirk. Kirk will gaurd McNamara. That will be his main job. Kirk is a quick defender, who I think should be able to stay with him off the dribble.
He's not real long, so he's going to have to stay tight on Gerry to try an limit the number of 3's taken. Krik has a good 3 ball as well, and can really light it up when he's on. It really just depends on the type of game being played to see how involved Kirk will be in the offense.
Chris Walker. Chris Walker is actually a walk on who played intramurals at our rec center a bunch. His team dominated the basketball league. When Gillispie came in, he had open tryouts for the team. Walker made it, and now has worked his way to a starting spot over the past two years. He brings all the intangibles to a team with his intelligence, insane hustling, and tough defense.
Marlon Pompey. Marlon plays a 4 position for us. This is the first position usually to get sub'ed out during the game. Marlon is a long player, who can contribute some on offense when he gets going. At times he'll have trouble handling the ball down low, or making smart passes out of the post. He plays good defense and can block some shots. He takes the ball strong to the basket, and has limited the turnovers towards the end of the year.
Antanas Kavaliauskas. Our token western European player. Antanas is a big guy down low who has improven twofold this year. Has been playing well down low as of late, and can seal off his man pretty good down low. The only matchup I see as a problem for him is a real athletic big guy who can get around him when he tries to post up. Antanas has aslo stepped up the defense. He played very good defense on PJ Tucker @A&M. He was favored over Pompey at the end because of this, and really helped limit UTs best scorer. He rebounds well and won't shy away from physical play.
Martellus Bennett. Mostly known for his play on the football field. He plays TE for A&M and was the Number 1 recruit out of Texas last year (for football :)) Anyways, he brings us a physically strong 3 position who is athletic. He won't see much time probably. He can cut inside but has a tendency to turn the ball over(hence little playing time). He will stay with his man on defense, but the lack of playing time really hasn't enabled him to show a whole lot.
Eddie Smith, Red White, & Edjuan Green. This will be the last two who have a chance at playing. Smith was JUCO player of the year last yea. He's probably the fastest guy in the team who can stick to his man well. He doesn't bring a whole lot offensively. Red White contributes whith his shot. he has a solid three, but is a liability on defense. His man can beat him a lot of the time, so he doesn't play a whole lot. Same with Green. He's a big guy, but the lack of defense finds him on the bench a lot.
As you can probably tell from this, A&M plays man defense like 90% of time. Their man offense is superior to their zone offense, but they can score with either. This team can score bunches is the three is falling. They live and die by their defense because they usaully won't be able to outscore their oppenent (especailly in the tourny). I like to look at the UT game for everything A&M does right on defense, and the Colorado game in the BigXII tourny for everything they did right on offense. I'll just pray the can mesh those two performances for the next 6 game;)

Just stupid. That was probably the most pathetic effort I have ever seen by this team. It's clear that without McNamara this Junior class has no heart and has no desire to win. Without him on the court directing them with what to do they have no clue as to what needs to be done to win a ball game.
This is so completely unfortunate for our team because next year these guys are going to be the ones who are supposed to be the leaders of the team and quite frankly I don't see them being able to do it. The only hope is that Paul Harris comes in and becomes the real catalyst for this team. He has the ability to lead by example and has the ability to take over games. Hopefully he can do just that.

Come on Indiana. I knew they sucked and went with them strictly on the Mike Davis factor thinking they would win at least one game.

Syracuse should not have been a 5 seed.
Texas A&M should have been higher than an 12 seed.
that matchup was a disaster for 'Cuse from the start. how do you go from being on the outer edge of the bubble to a #5 seed in four days? it put unrealistic expectations on the Orange.

I cant believe SU was a 5 seed as well, same with Indiana getting a 6. I picked both A&M and SDSU. I hope SDSU can pull it out, even though I am a Big Ten fan.
