Yeah, the Big 11 is looking real solid right now.

Texas and Texas A&M are the only big X1I teams left playing. That's bad.

Then it's a good thing I don't run around shooting my mouth off about how good Wisconsin is or isnt.

I notice a lot of Kentucky and Kansas fans who like to run their mouths on this site, and more often than not it bites them in the ass.

True, but Iowa got bounced today, Wisconsin got embarrassed and preseason top 10 Michigan St went down in the first round. I know the Big 12 sucks, but I don't see where Big 11 fans have much room to knock it.

Edit: And the Big 11 only has three teams left. They've each lost half of the teams they had in the field. Pretty even.

The Big Ten the #1 conference based on RPI this season.
The Big 12 was #5 (out of 6 majors, beating Pac-10).

But the point of my original post was that if you really looked at it, it was no surprise that Kansas and Oklahoma lost, they were average teams in an average conference.

I wasnt even surprised Wisconsin lost - I was surprised at how bad they lost, but they've been limping to the finish since February 1.

Iowa, now that was a surprise.

Im sorry but whoever ACTUALLY thought that their bracket was gonna be as good as normal this year is a fuckin moron. Yes there will be a few replies with people saying "My bracket is awesome... Im 30/32"... YOU ARE LUCKY. IM ONE OF THEM.

BUT... this is the absolute most OPEN tournament Ive witnessed in the past 10 years. I do not remember a tourney where I swear that any of the top 6 seeds from any region can win the whole thing... where #16 seeds keep up with the #1's so well... where every game is an absolute fuckin battle for the most part minus a couple.

This is the single greatest NCAA tourney first round I have witnessed in the past 10 years.

WHOEVER WINS THIS TOURNAMENT... IS AN ABSOLUTE FUCKING BEAST.

P.S. - KANSAS SUCKS

P.P.S.- THIS TOURNEY IS SO OPEN... MY DAMN SQUAD COULD LOSE TOMOROW

I agree the Big 12 sucks, but RPI doesn't mean much. College basketball in general is down this year. Last years UNC or Illinois teams would wipe the court with any team this year.

Unbelievable night tonight. The tournament is getting crazier by the second. Next year will be downright unpredictable.

I have lost 3 Sweet 16 teams and one Final Four. I feel great though, because I could care less about my stupid bracket, because this tourney is absolutely super, scentilating, sensational!

UConn was severly outplayed for 30 minutes last night, but what they did in the final 10 minutes was pretty impressive and I'd say the same thing if it had been Duke. Just because these teams are the top teams doesn't mean they are going to bring their A game every night. Luckily for UConn, their C or D game was good enough to get the job done and that's all that counts. Win and move on.

What the hell are you talking about??

You are the definition of a Kentucky fan who doesnt know when to stop running their mouth. Kentucky was lucky to get an at large bid, and I'd guess if this team were called Florida State, they wouldnt have.

As far as Wisconsin losing in the first round. That's the first time it has happened under Bo Ryan. Two of the last 4 years they've lost to the eventual National Champion, so it isnt like they're a bunch of choke artists. Wisconsin is who they are. A good team in a good conference that needs a few things to go right for them to make noise in the tourney. Dont get your panties in a bundle.

I agree, I read a pretty interesting fact the other day in the local paper.
The last team to win the title with a leading scorer contributing more than 30 percent of the teams total points was 1988 with Danny Manning
(32.9). Before that you have to go all the way back to Lew Alcindor who scored 32.3 percent for UCLA. Although every team needs that go to guy, a little balanced scoring seems to be key this time of year

Just in case anybody is wondering JJ is at 33.2 percent and Morrison is at 35.5

well, it sucks that KU lost, but i guess i can take this as a bit of a silver lining today.....

Kansas' Rush says he'll return for sophomore season.

"Yes, I'm back next year. I can't go out like this," he told reporters just minutes after the Jayhawks were ousted in the first round for the second straight year.

"Yes, I know he'll be back. We'll all be back," Giles said. "We have to use this as motivation in the offseason, in the weight room. We have to remember this feeling every day."

that's the problem. he inherited something special, all's we're asking is that he maintains what's already there and gets past the Double B's (Bucknell Bison, Bradley Braves) in the first round. it's not like he walked into a mess and had to fix a bunch of shit. his first year as coach, he inherited a team that had been to two consecutive final fours. until last year, Kansas had the longest active streak of first round wins in the tournament. they hadn't lost a first round game since some time in the 70's. now they've lost two in a row. that is absolutely unacceptable.

Self is going to bring in top talent like you siad. You have a monster committed for the 2007 class already. If his performance continues with all of his recruited players well into yalls program, then there will be a lot of questions. I just think it's too early to jump ship on him right now.

i'm not jumping ship, it's just the day after another disappointment. i think they'll be all right, but i'm a little impatient. with Roy, it got to the point that they were choking when he they couldn't get over the hump and win a title. now it seems to be a struggle to get out of the first round. it's not easy going from Final Four disappointments to first round exits.

is blowing a big lead with four minutes to go in the elite eight worse than getting bounced in the first round two years in a row by unheard of mid-majors? i'm not sure, that's an interesting question.

I agree OSU will be a monster. And those 3 should be at the top. Even though i didn't have KU going past the second round, i was totally shocked that they got beat. Self is a good coach, and i understand wanting him to keep that tradition going. We've gone through that here with Tubby. The mid-majors come on stronger and stronger every year, which is making it hard for the traditional powerhouses to maintain their dominance in the tourneys. I see a lot of similarities in the KU and UK programs at the moment.

could be worse...your team could have had a 15 point lead against illinois and being 5 minutes from the final 4 only to let one of the greatest comebacks in history happen to you and you end up losing in overtime.

dustin, let's start a perrenial disappointment club. first inductees: arizona and kansas.

well, it sucks that KU lost, but i guess i can take this as a bit of a silver lining today.....

What did you expect him to say after an emotional first round loss? "Im leaving this place and gettin' paid next year?"

I'd like to hear him say the same thing in May.

shitty D!? When it's a two point game, you don't want your post to play a guy tight 4 feet behind the three point line potentialy giving up and easy drive to the paint.

LSU did a good job creating the mismatch on that inbounds play. The first option was to Davis down low being gaurded by our Point Gaurd. That was not shitty D.

edit: also.... if it was a three point game, yeah you should be all over him. but given that its only two points, you don't want to let the pther team have an easy go to the basket.

disagree, you need to realize how much time they were taking by just passing around the 3pt line. at that point something should click in your bball iq and say guard for the win. if you listened to the announcers they figured since LSU was tired theyd go for the win. he had too much space to be given that game winning shot. always give up the tie, but never the win

SatelliteEyes

just for me personally.... i would rather make them take a lower percentage shot, even for the win than to give them a high percentage shot(closer to the basket).

Regardless though, it was a hell of a play by LSU. :thumbsup to them for coming up big and I wish them the best from here on out. They probably will give Duke a tougher game, but I wish so bad it was us playing them:(

I can't believe UNC lost, although considering my expectations coming into the season, I'd have to say this season was still a huge success. It's disappointing that it had to end at the hands of George freakin' Mason though. One thing I will remember from that game was David Noel running the length of the floor to block that layup attempt in the final minute. I think that play was a great representation of how Noel played at UNC, and it was a great way to go out. I'll also remember Bobby Frasor hitting that three to bring it close. I'm not sure he's a great point guard, but he is definitely clutch.

Guess I'll have to wait for next season. I've pretty much given up on my picks, so I guess I'm pulling for LSU (my local team).

After that amazing four day weekend of college basketball, only Douchebagimus Maximus himself, Mr. Skip Bayless, could find something to write a negative article about. It's basically about how Adam Morrison won't be that good in the pro's. Maybe not, but why write that article NOW? Just another example of why Bayless needs to be fired. Anyone up for starting a webpage?

I hate it when he guest hosts the Rome show. Not too long ago I was on my way home from work and threw on some AM radio. The Rome show was just coming on tape delay. I was pretty happy because I hadn't been able to catch Rome in a while. Then Douchey McDouche's voice comes on. All I could think was "I hate that cumdumpster".

I think he means relatively speaking. Wooden didnt have to deal with players leaving early for the NBA and all the mess that revolves around that.

Kind of like you can say Bill Gates has accomplished what John D Rockefeller accomplished... even though he really hasnt becuase Gates is nowhere close to as wealthy as John was.

he did a good job not losing his team, but he's no coach of the year. if he was, he wouldn't have found him self in the position of building them up loss after loss. i'd give him Motivator Of The Year if that was an award. you shouldn't be rewarded for losing though.

I agree, I think he's a great coach. It could be a great hire for them, certainly gives the Big 12 another "big name" coach in the conference. I'm just surprised that he got another high profile D-1 job so soon (granted k-state doesn't have the b-ball tradition) but it's not po-dunk state either.

One of the specials was a contrast between how loose and laid back LSU's team is and how uptight and nearly militaristic Duke has been during practices and meetings this week. It was good stuff.
