I hate his attitude. I hate his look. I hate his hair because as a basketball player, playing against people with fros SUCK when they post on you. I hate how he thinks he is the shit. If he was more modest i would call him talented, but since he has to yell at the camera after every play how talented he is, it makes me loose respect.

there are girls that know a lot and are respected in here (stephanie, aka bustdstuff) but you just don't happen to be one of them. you're a loud and obnoxious rah rah fan that has little knowledge of what the fuck is going on. the minute you begin to lose an argument that's based on facts or knowledge of the game, you start taking shots at people's personal lives. you are a worthless fuck that is truly hated by most people in this thread. i know you don't care because to you we're just sad, single and lonely guys trying feel better about ourselves. do me a favor, tell my wife that i'm sad, single and lonely.... she probably deserves to know.

thank goodness the world cup is this year, because I'm not a fan of baseball either. I hate this time as well. Once the Spurs are done in the NBA, I don't know what to do until football starts back up in the fall. My birthday is in the summer, but I still consider it the darkest time of the year because of no football/basketball/any college sports.

A lot of people are ripping on Noah, but I really don't think he's that much different from Adam Morrison. They both play hard, are cocky, and aren't afraid to show their emotions. I happen to like both of them. If you don't like either of them, I can understand that, but to criticize Noah while praising Morrison is a little hypocritical.

Yeah, but is yours signed? Also, have a George Brett autoghraphed baseball. Bo & George, that's a good one. I never saw Bo play in person. Wow, you've never been to a KU game in Lawrence? Most of my family is in Kansas. Olathe, Wichita, Independence, Coffeyville, Newton. Never went to a Chiefs game, but I did get to see the Utah Jazz at the Kansas City Kings years ago.

Edit: My uncle used to be a cop in Leawood. He used to drive us around and show us a lot of the players houses. I remember seeing Bo's, George's, Brett Saberhagan's, Darryl Motley's. It was pretty cool.

As much as I hate to say it, Oklahoma State will be very good. Very young and talented. Not as talented as NC or KU, but they have plenty. OU is a year away. They'll go through the growing pains that the other young teams did this year.

At first, I was afraid it could end up like the Felton/May/McCants freshman year, which didn't go so well. Then I remembered they have Hansbrough coming back. :D Danny Green and Bobby Frasor aren't bad either, but I believe their starting days will be over within the first month of the season.

from that article......

Brandon Rush already has said he's coming back. We're guessing one of the following underclassmen will turn pro -- Mario Chalmers, C.J. Giles, Julian Wright or Sasha Kaun --

what the fuck is he talking about? Mario Chalmers? does this guy realize that his dad is an assistant coach? CJ Giles didn't even start most of the season and Sasha Kaun is....... Sasha Kaun. Julian Wright is a possibility, but i still think Rush is the biggest risk to leave. this guy is a sports writer and he hasn't learned not to take what someone says minutes after a season ending loss to heart? jackass.

Here is Doyel's Preseason Top 25 for this past season following the draft deadline. #2 Oklahoma, #3 Louisville, #6 Arizona, #7 Nevada, #9 Texas Tech(!), #17 Oklahoma State, #22 Stanford, and #24 Wake Forest. Yeah, okay. They did yet ANOTHER Preseason Top 25 the week before the season started, but I won't bother posting that one. They did drop Villanova to #20 though. I think they should give one of us Doyel's job.

Edit: Which gives me a good idea... anyone interested in doing an Ants Poll for college basketball? We don't have to update it every single week like the actual polls (although we could, but it might get tedious). I think it'd be interesting. We could even start now with a preseason poll for next year. I'll volunteer to put it together if people are interested.

Kelvin Sampson is suposed to be on Rome during the third hour. He was on Rome's show a couple of weeks ago and said he hoped to spend the rest of his career at OU and retire on the bench at OU. I don't hold it against him and know that you can't take that stuff seriously from any coach, but I just like to hear them try to explain statements like that when they end up leaving a short time later.

why don't we do one this week like you said. i'll get my poll to you on Sunday when i've got some time to sit down and look it over.

then we can do another one the week after the NBA draft. it'll be interesting to see the difference in the two polls once the players staying and leaving are set in stone.

if necessary, we can do a third one when Tubby Smith cleans his desklater on in the summer and finds a fax from Rondo that says he really wanted to stay but was pressured by an agent when he goes undrafted.

It's bigger than Noah. Most awards for national coach of the year, for example, have gone to Roy Williams. That's the same Roy Williams whose North Carolina team lost in the second round of the NCAA Tournament to George Mason. George Mason ended up in the Final Four, having beaten UNC and Michigan State and Connecticut along the way.
If the vote for the country's top coach were held today, George Mason's Jim Larranaga would win it. You know. I know it. Roy Williams knows it.

coach of the tournament is not the same as coach of the year. GMU made a great run in the tournament, but winning four games is a row does not offset a season loaded with mediocrity. UNC was predicted to be at the bottom of the ACC and not make the tourney. Roy is coach of the year, hands down.

Sources: Capel will replace Sampson at Oklahoma

By Andy Katz
ESPN.com

Oklahoma is expected to name Virginia Commonwealth coach Jeff Capel as its next men's basketball coach, multiple sources told ESPN.com on Monday night.

A news conference is expected either late Tuesday or Wednesday.

Capel was scheduled to meet with his team Tuesday morning to tell them he has accepted the Sooners job.

Capel was the stealth candidate Oklahoma athletic director Joe Castiglione had been working the past 10 days. Earlier Monday, Wichita State's Mark Turgeon and Miami's Frank Haith, thought to be front-runners for the position, both made it clear they were staying at their respective schools. Regardless, Capel was a target of Castiglione's since Kelvin Sampson announced he was leaving for Indiana two weeks ago.

Capel, 31, led the Rams to the NCAA Tournament in 2004 and the NIT in 2005. The fourth-year VCU coach is considered a rising star in the business and was selected last summer to be an assistant coach with Manhattan's Bobby Gonzalez on the USA World University Games staff led by Villanova's Jay Wright. The United States won the gold medal in Turkey.

VCU finished 19-10, 11-7 in the Colonial Athletic Association this past season.

After the season, Capel agreed to a two-year contract extension that gave him six years on his VCU deal. His record at the school was was 79-41.

Multiple sources told ESPN.com that Capel rated very high when Castiglione and other Oklahoma officials checked him out with high-profile basketball-related people. Oklahoma was looking for a person to lead the Sooners' program long term and was willing to think "out of the box" with Sampson's successor.

Oklahoma's program is at an all-time high with some of the top facilities in the country. Sampson signed his highest-rated recruiting class before he left for Indiana. The Sooners lose seniors Taj Gray, Terrell Everett and Kevin Bookout -- three of their top four scorers. But they return Michael Neal (12.4 points per game), Nate Carter (6 points) and David Godbold (5.7 points), three of the top four guards from last season's 20-9 team (11-5 in the Big 12 and a first-round loser to Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the NCAA Tournament).

Oklahoma is still waiting for an April 21 NCAA infractions hearing on rules violations from 2000-04 dealing with excessive phone calls under Sampson. The school already self-imposed penalties on Sampson (freezing his salary, no July recruiting) as well as cutting scholarships and recruiting visits from the past year.

Capel played at Duke from 1994-97 and is the son of Charlotte Bobcats assistant Jeff Capel, a former head coach at Old Dominion and North Carolina A&T.

Andy Katz is a senior writer at ESPN.com.

Yeah, I'm definitely not writing him off by any means. If I were you guys I'd just play the wait and see game. Graduated from a storied program under one of the most prestigious coaches of our time. Had relative success at a smaller school(1 automatic NCAA bid from the CAA and one NIT appearance). 79-41 at VCU, not bad but still but to me that is just a small step up from a Quin Snyder situation(meaning he technically has HC exp, just not too much). See Melvin Watkins decent record at UNC Charlotte...soon followed by a 0 conference win season at aTm.

I'd definitely say this one could go either way. Best of luck to you...except one night a season.

Kelvin said that Jeff Capel is one of the most mature coaches for his age he knows. He talked about how he (Kelvin) was an unknown 31 year old coach when he was hired at Wazzu. How Sherri Coale was an unknown 31 year old. How Billy Donovan was an unknown 31 year old...and so on.

There were a bunch of IU and NC State fans swarming a A&M rivals100.com board I'm on a bunch. They were screaming how they could pluck Gillispie away from us if they wanted to. :rolleyes

Looks like NC State might just let the players coach themselves and just street ball next year..... kidding;)

Turns out John Calipari didn't want any part of UNC or Duke. I think it was a pretty smart move for him. I thought his ego would make him want to show he can compete with Roy Williams and Coach K... but I think it turns out that his ego can't handle playing third wheel to those two and their respective schools, which is what would've ended up happening.

The article mentions LSU's John Brady and George Mason's Jim Larranaga as potential candidates... not sure if they're actually looking at them or if the article just suggests that they should. Prior to this year, nobody around here (Louisiana) was really all that crazy about John Brady. They still don't care about him too much. My impression is that he just got lucky and landed a lot of talented local players who wanted to stay in town and play at LSU anyway (pretty much everyone on the team is from Baton Rouge).

Jeff Capel will be on Rome's show tomorrow sometime between 11am-2pm central. Rome always says what hour the guest will be on at the beginning of the show.

The Sports Animal in OKC interviewed Andy Katz and they asked him if Capel was the first choice or a fall back choice or how it went down, basically how much did OU have to settle. Katz said that Capel was in Joe Castiglione's top 3 from the very beginning. Katz didn't know if he was the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd choice, but that he was definitely in the top 3. I like the choice, but that makes me feel even better about it since I was wondering that myself. I have the utmost confidence in Joe C and I think Capel will do a great job.

i think Florida will be good, but i think they're a classic example of a team getting hot at the right time. they won six in a row when it mattered most but i don't think that makes them the preseason favorite next year. my opinion of course........

Florida won 17 in a row to start off the year, plus noone wins the NCAA tournament without getting hot at the right time. They finished off winning 11straight, including the SEC tournament. Noah is not as big of a deal as people are making him out to be. Every guy on that team plays like Noah, and they're all coming back. You never know with the big dance, but they are definitely making it to the Final Four. IMO they're going to be the best team in the country no doubt.

I think it was more than just getting hot at the right time. They rolled through the SEC tourney and then through the NCAA tourney. I'm not sure how many in a row they actually won to end the season. And only a couple of their games were close. I think they just got better as the season went and it's something they could have sustained as opposed to just getting hot for a six game stretch. Just my opinion of course ;)

you're right. Florida is a great team. they managed to take 1 of 3 from the two time defending NIT champions South Carolina and put the hammer down in the SEC championship game with a mind boggling 49-47 blowout of the powerhouse Gamecocks.

all of those jokes aside, i agree that Florida should be one of the favorites going into next year.

Wait a second...kU loses to Bradley...that's right folks the MVC powerhouse, Bradley. And they are number "pre"(awful early for predictions)season #1. Give me a break. So what, the big announcement that BRush is staying(what were his options? small ball in Europe?). Who did they beat last(05-06) year? a very(sorry brian and royce) overated OU team, KY on a down year, and Texas in a post season tourny. With loses to KSjUco and the powerhouse that is Nevada...not to mention the worst Missouri team in(I'm going out on a limb here) any of our lifetimes?

I'm not going to lie, I'm am not totally sober. I try to go against my nature and not to flame to bad against kU on here becuase I like the generally civil atmosphere plus the kU phans(Dustin) seem like alright guys, I didn't come here after they choked one away to Bucknell...I didn't come here and talk all high and mighty after they lost to us and I didnt come here and talk smack after they lost to Bradley....but honestly #1? give me a break. I have lost all faith in the previously flwaless am.org poll.

I'll will not stand idly by while our nations youth piss away their hopes and dreams on another Larry Brownless kU squad.

edit: I will admit the kU does have some decent talent coming back and should not be overlooked. definatly a top 25 and probably even 15 or 10...but I just can't agree with #1.

and last time i checked, to choke in the tournament you have to be in the tournament first. i know as a Mizzou fan you feel it's your obligation to bash KU, but you really might want to mix in some postseason play before you start throwing insults at KU for "choking" in the first round of a tournament that the Tigers haven't sniffed in awhile.....

The funny thing is that seekupig (our resident Kansas fan) isn't the one who put Kansas at #1... I did, and I'm a UNC fan. He put UNC #1.

To be honest, I think a bigger argument can be made against putting UNC #1 than there can against putting Kansas #1. Kansas has EVERYONE returning from a team that nearly won the Big 12 and did win the Big 12 tournament. UNC is losing David Noel, arguably their second best player from last season, and once again they'll be relying heavily on freshmen. And speaking of upsets... yes, Kansas lost to Bradley, but UNC lost to George Mason. I don't have a problem with UNC being #1, I just think if you're going to rip Kansas as a #1 pick, you could rip UNC as a #1 pick even more easily.

i really don't understand what it is with the anti KU sentiment lately. they may not be #1 preseason, but every thing i've seen and read has them in the top five next year. they were a good team this year that is returning all starters. how anyone could not have them in the top five is beyond me.

So since the team I cheer for has not been in the NCAAs in a few years I can't have an opinion about another team? What do you think I don't watch college basketball other than Mizzou? I'd have some pretty boring Marchs if that were the case.

You put quotations around the word choking, so teams seeded 4-13 and a 3-14 those are not really feasible upsets? I don't know that I'm throwing insults I think I'm just calling a spade a spade. A team with a very storied tradition from a fairly stout conference bows out in the round of 64 two years in a row to virtual nobodies...seems like choking to me. But you are right, Missouri hasn't been to the dance in a couple years(actually the last time we were in postseason was the last time kansas won a game) so I don't have the right to an opinion. When Missouri is as great as mighty Kansas then I as a fan will be able to come back here and finally grace you guys with my opinion which will be legitimized by what 19 year old boys have accomplished in a game.

settle down man, i was just fucking with you. i knew you were fucked up when you posted what you did and was just having some fun with it. and the reason i put quotation marks around choking was because i'm not sold on how big of a choke those games really were. should they have won those games? absolutely. but Bucknell took the team that beat Kansas and cracked the Top 25 this year. Yeah, thats how we got Brad Smith(in football) we hire Gary Pinkel from Toledo in 2001 he brings in some relatively unknown kid his staff has been recruiting from Youngstown Ohio. 5 years later he has held 69 different records including the NCAA rushing record for QBs and the first player to throw for 8k and run for 4k.

But at the same time assistants make a big difference too. Quin Snyder and his staff had been recruiting a kid from back east named Keon Lawrence. After the changing of guards from Snyder to Mike Anderson Lawrence starts making some noise about wanting out of his LOI. A couple of weeks go by, Anderson begins to name his new staff and as soon as it is known Melvin Watkins is going to be retained the kid says he is going to honor his LOI. Apparently Watkins had been the most active coach in his recruiting process. So the fact that he was no longer going to play under Coach Snyder's awesome system or take advantage of Snyder's winning ways and advanced player development[/sarcasm] didn't matter to him as long as Watkins stayed around.

I think alot of it is just about HS prima donas trying to squeeze out a little more attention.

Watkins is a good recruiter(hell he brought Antoine Wright to A&M yrs ago), but he absolutely blows as a coach. I think though that the state of Texas also wasn't a good fit for him. He didn't have any real ties here. He'll bring in some decent guys for your team.

if anyone's interested, here's the list of all underclassmen that have declared for the draft so far. any player with an * by his name hasn't signed with an agent and will be able to withdraw their name before the deadline if they choose to do so.

i didn't realize that Rondo had left Kentucky and signed with an agent already.....

"Lack of Institutional Control" for ol' Kansas U.

http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/sports/14399337.htm

I just happen to be spending time in Lowrents KS when this is released, not a bad day at all for me.

"The NCAA alleged that Kansas’ athletic department demonstrated a “lack of institutional control” during a six-year period that was marred by academic fraud within the Jayhawks’ football program and rules violations that were known about but not reported."

"Regarding men’s basketball, Kansas self-reported that former coach Roy Williams knew of and approved cash payments and gifts from boosters to players who had finished their careers. The school said Williams had been told — incorrectly — that such payments were permissible."

"? During that period, Kansas permitted the position of compliance auditor to be vacant on three separate occasions. In all, Kansas went 20 months without the position being filled.

? Kansas officials knew about but failed to report in a timely manner 26 secondary rules violations to the NCAA enforcement staff.

? The athletics department failed to provide NCAA rules education to coaches and boosters.

? Kansas’ football staff was aware that multiple prospective student athletes were living on campus from May to August of 2003, yet the staff members failed to determine what was and wasn’t permissible for prospects who had yet to gain eligibility. They also failed to monitor their activities, which led in part to the alleged academic fraud."

According to KC sports radio(world renown for their kU homerism) "worse than what MU ever dreamed of"

Why is it against NCAA rules to phone a junior in basketball, but juniors in football can sign a letter of intent? Does that make any sense to any of you?

You guys self reported some stuff within the last year. The NCAA investigated, decided there was more to it and called it "lack of...". You have a hearing sometime this summer to decide if your self imposed probation is severe enough or not.

Who knows what will happen.

either way, it shouldn't have any effect on the basketball team. i love the football team too, but i doubt anyone would notice if they lost a couple of scholarships or were banned from post season play..... :lol

yeah, but at the end of the day we still play in the Big XII. KU is a basketball school. i'm glad we're getting more competitve in football, but getting better isn't going to make it happen in that conference. it would take a miracle for them to ever win the Big XII.
