and boy was this a good time :)

I'm trying to make out the game. Notre Dame, 2003?

If so, you'll see me in the last picture you posted. I'm up next to the air vent that is to the left of the basket.

Nah. The girl comes first. Unless we are in a National Championship game.

The added bonus is that the game was on television there, and she is a die-hard Syracuse fan while her dad is a die-hard UConn fan. It was rather fun to watch the game with them.

Yeah, I've been to Allen Fieldhouse. I grew up in Nebraska and we saw a game back when I was in grade school. We had some friends who lived in Overland Park who went down to the game with us. It's a nice arena, but I really believe that the RAC is more difficult. You can chalk (rock chalk it if you really want to) it up to me either being young at the time, or having a Big East bias.
- Matt

i did a little research on the RAC and it looks like it is a pretty well respected arena as far as noise goes. but when i think of tough places to play, places that are tough to win at not tough to hear at are what comes to mind. while Rutgers has a decent home record over the past 10 years or so, it's not even close to the Jayhawks record at Allen Fieldhouse (Duke is the only team that's close)....

RUTGERS
94-95 (8-6)
95-96 (7-7)
96-97 (9-6)
97-98 (10-5)
98-99 (12-5)
99-00 (8-5)
00-01 (8-7)
01-02 (15-2)
02-03 (10-6)
03-04 (16-2)
04-05 (5-4) (includes last night's stellar let down against the 'Cuse)

home record over this time.........108 wins, 55 losses.

KANSAS
94-95 (14-0)
95-96 (13-0)
96-97 (15-0)
97-98 (16-0)
98-99 (10-3)
99-00 (13-1)
00-01 (13-1)
01-02 (13-0)
02-03 (15-1)
03-04 (13-1)
04-05 (10-0)

home record over this time........145 wins, 7 losses.

is the RAC a tough place to play? sure. toughest in the nation? no way.

mray10
01-25-2005, 11:39 AM
You just can't compare RAC with Cameron or Allen. Of course Duke and Kansas have a far greater winning percentage at home than Rutgers -- Duke and Kansas are much better than Rutgers.

That doesn't mean that Rutgers doesn't get a greater advantage playing at home than Duke or Kansas do. But I doubt if there's any real way to measure that.

Illinois is favored by 2...... I'm taking the Badgers. 38 straight wins (5 straight against the Illini) at the Kohl Center is not a mistake. KU is favored by 14 @ Baylor.... gonna stay away from that one, thought they do have plaenty to prove after getting dropped to 7 in the ESPN poll. what a joke. Below a Wildcat team that we beat at their place.

so now your having been to an arena makes it a tough place to play? i'm sure it's safe to assume that you've never been to Cameron or Allen Fieldhouse. they're both loud (and small) and they have the home records to prove it year in and year out. I know they're not in the Big East, but you should check it out sometime.......

I havnt been to nearly as many college basketball arenas as football stadiums so I dont have as much experience but....ok, it's taking alot for me to say this...AFH is by far the coolest arena I've been to(there, it's out:violent ). But seriously, you won't hear me say to many nice things about kU(for obvious reasons), but Allen is awesome. It's the one thing that I am actually somehwat jealous of kU...well that and the whole final four and national title thing. But, mark my words, kU is going to "chalk" up their first home loss on monday nite;) .

It's ok.... I won't share with any of your other Tiger friends that youre a closet Jayhawk fan. Nobody can fault you for admiring a real program. Never did see a game at the Hearns Center... and certainly not the new place, though I did see a 311 concert (dont ask) at Hearns..... looked like a pretty cool place for a game. By the way, Mizzou was much more fun when Norm was around.

mizzoudmbfan
01-25-2005, 06:41 PM
Hearnes was nice just because it was "home", definatly not a bad place just nothing special. The new arena which I like to call "The Norm Stewart Court" instead of Paige or now Mizzou arena is obviously very nice. But it dosnt have the intangibles that a place like Cameron or Allen have.

Please?!? They've been #1 in the nation for over 2 months now and have been on ESPN countless times and this is the first game he's done for us all year long 'cause aparentley we weren't worthy enough to be blessed with his presence. Two weeks ago when it was decided that he was going to do this game he started telling the world then that this was gonna be the game where the Illini fell. Even tonite he said that Carolina was the best team in the nation even though they have 2 losses, one coming from Santa Clara(pu-lease!) and the other to a team that the Illini dismantled by 28. The Illini received every single first place vote in the USA Today poll and all except for one in the AP poll and he still wont admit were the best team in the country. :lol What a jackass!

I'm not particularly enthralled to the entire Orange thing. I prefer the Orangemen/Orangewomen distinction. It makes more sense. It's either a mens sport or a womens sport. I think that the contract out to Nike to redesign the look of SU was a waste of money. It would have been much cheaper to get a local design firm to create the new logo for Syracuse. As far as the actual logo, that I like.

I never got to get into the convo about that game haha. I just loved how it looked like Kansas gave up. How sad. I could never see Duke doing that. Just look at the Maryland/Duke game when Duke was down by 16 or whatever with 2 minutes to go and came back and won. Gotta love it.

the Illini made a believer out of me last night.... that team is the real deal, and I can honestly say, they have a real chance to run the table....at least during the regualr season. Wisc up 8 last night, threatning to really blow it up with the Illini's erratic play.... they bring in Jack Ingram for back to back 3's and broke down that lead with 3 straight possessions..... ballgame right there. The Badgers had all 3 Illini guards n the ropes making bottle rocket passes out of bound and stupid half court shots....didnt matter, the Illini have mch more than the 3 guards. A very nice showcase game for the Big X. Went to an Illini bar here in Chi, the place was a madhouse.....I'm glad my buddy made me take the Illini, its about time they covered. Huge win, without a doubt the best team in the nation.

University of Arizona (Tucson, Arizona)

I am not terribly annoyed by UA having Wildcats for their mascot. The story behind that oddly, though, has nothing to do with there being quite a few actual Wildcats living in and around the Tucson. Back in the early days the UA played a football game and was described by an LA newspaper writers as having "played like a bunch of Wildcats." So, at least there's a reason and there is a natural precdent in the area.

The UA colors piss me off. Not that I have a problem with red and blue, though it's hardly unique. But I do assert that the first color scheme the school had (green and silver) was vastly better. What's really stupid is the reason for the switch: It was cheaper to order uniforms in blue and red. :rolleyes

Only 44 of them.

Edit: So what do we get now that we've proven that there are more than 2 mascots that have more than 33 schools?

a promise is a promise.....all participants deserve a big prize.

though I think we are all using different sites here, the only 2 that had more than Wildcats on the site I was on was Eagles and Tigers....site may not be up-to-date though, quite a few on there with no mascot at all. :lol

Plus, 4 Lumberjacks!

Im taking bets left and right with some people that let their team influence their opinion. For instance I JUST took a $500 bet on the bowl. He gave me 10 points which doesnt matter cuz the Patsies will waste the eagles anyways. But he picked Philly to win by 10...

Whatever though. Spring Break is gettin payed for nicely.

Not many people picked Duke to be undefeated at this point of the season. Coach K is doing one of his best jobs keeping this team unbeaten. The Dukies really showed something by winning at Miami (92-83) and at Florida State (88-56).

Beating two teams that makes the tourney and he's coach of the week? C'mon Dickey V. Coach K is in the middle of one of his best coaching jobs ever, a possible coach of the year, but beating those two team doesn't make you coach of the week.

maybe Coach K is the default coach of the week if nobody does anything outstanding? i may be biased, but my vote would go to the coach at 'Nova for coming back from that heartbreaker against Boston College and destroying the Jayhawks a few days later. I know they went 1-1 on the week, but it took some serious coaching throughout the week to make his players believe again. The best coaching jobs are done when things aren't going your way.

:thumbsdow Props to Duke for staying unbeaten for so long, but justifying this by "showing something" against Miami and Florida State is the most ridicoulous thing Ive ever heard. Neither one is a tourney team. Is it me, or is Dick like 10x worse this year than he has ever been in the past with his bias??? Especially after the game he just saw last night... it would be really nice for ESPN to get an insider besides Katz that could give some actual insight.... anything is better than this ongoing circus with Raferty, Dickie V, Bilas, Lavin, Franchilla and all the rest of the useless commentators they have over there.

I watched a game between UNC and NC St. from the 1983 ACC tournament on ESPN Classic Sunday and Dickey V was so different. He didn't yell once and had some input worth listening to. Mike Davis-Univ of Indiana

had his team really struggling through that tough non-conference schedule with a 5-7 record going into Big X play. Since then, they have reeled off 4 in a row (4-1 in Big X), all pretty big wins too.... Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio State and Purdue. The way I look at it is that there is no team in the country that can match the Heels in terms of talent, but there is no team that plays like a team anywhere near Illinois does. Talent can only get you so far. That's not to say UNC has played bad as a team this year, look at last year, but a testament of how well the Illini play together.

wake cant match UNC in terms of talent?
paul is better than felton
mccants is better than gray
sean may and eric williams- push
after the big three it comes up easy.

i would put the wake bench ahead of the UNC bench as was shown when they played

UNC is not unmatchable

Yes, Paul is better than Felton
Yes, McCants is better than Gray
I like May over Williams, but not by too much
Levy gets an offensive edge over Manuel, but Manuel is as good of a defender as you'll find in the ACC
Jawad is a HUGE advantage over Danelius, he is very underrated

When Wake played UNC they had two players on their bench have arguably their best game of the year and didn't get much from anyone else. Downey may be able to score, but Marvin Williams. Ellis and Strickland are not an upgrade over Noel and Scott for the rest of the bench.

The Heels are more talented.

You're quick!

But yes, that is when the 'Cuse head to Conte for the lone matchup of the regular season. It would be nice to send them packing to the ACC with a loss.

Georgetown could beat them Saturday. But I think we'll see them undefeated until at least 2/8 at Notre Dame.

First of all, the ACC is so tough to win that they could be beat out by a great team like Duke or even Wake. It would depend on how and where they lose though. If they lose the ACC because they start losing at home, I'll be concerned. If they lose the ACC because they lose on the road in close games, then I wouldn't make a big deal out of it. That said, I think they'll have their fair shot to win the ACC. There would be a lot of confidence in the tournament though for the team that does win the conference. All I'm saying is that I believe that UNC is the most talented team in the country, and as long as they're at home or on a neutral court I think they'll be pretty tough to beat.

IF the 'Cuse lose at Pitt on Saturday, KU could be back up to #3 in the polls with a win over Texas Saturday night. I would think they would hop over Duke and Wake Forest, but you never know with the ACC teams. College Gameday is going to be at Allen Fieldhouse all day Saturday starting at 11:00am for all of you godless, non-believing, infidels that still worship the RAC..................sorry, that was a bit harsh. cool gym though, you should check it out. Only drawback is Dicky V is calling the game. Maybe I should ride over to Durham this afternoon and lock Coach K's pool house so Dicky V can't escape. Then again, i don't want to get to close to K's pool house, i might see this........

Dicky V is too good to come to Norman. He barely gets off the East coast and when he does it's either Kansas or Texas. We had UConn and Oklahoma St here for Big Monday and he didn't come to either one. The only way OU will get Dicky V is to convince Duke, Maryland, UNC, or Wake Forest to come in.
