And you're probably right. Unless of course the man in my avatar beats em both ;)

And in other news, is Appalachian State completely fucked for their at-large bid? Lost they're conference semi game, but they've had some nice wins over Virginia and Vandy, nothing much else going against em except a couple conference losses. I hope they make it, I haven't even gotten to watch them play :lol

lolz. Well I'd rather watch em in the morning since I've got nothing else to do. I'd also be failing my high school classes. The games down here and at 8:30 at the latest, leaving enough time for me to do homework/study/have a social life etc. My friends understand that they aren't #1 priority this time of year. Hell my parents do too :lol

:thumbsup I can't remember anyone in recent memory who has had such a complete game.

There isn't anything close to a weakness in Durant's game. The look to Augustin for the three and then drop to Hill for the layup showed his great passing ability despite being by far the best scorer in the nation.

Kansas isn't playing bad basketball right now. Texas is just simply lights out. This half is eerily similar to the first half of UNC/Ohio St.

:thumbsup Yeah, in Kansas' defense they would be beating most any other team in the country right now playing the way they're playing, and even Texas on most days. They just can't do anything wrong right now.

Wisconsin is down against Michigan St. again at half, although that's a huge yawn to the show Texas is putting on right now.

I'm unsure if Bob would have liked to see Seth Davis pick Xavier as a bracket buster. On one hand, he picked Xavier. On the other hand, Seth Davis says a lot of stupid shit.

justinandimcool
03-03-2007, 02:01 PM
WOW. I still think Kansas is the superior team, as far as defense and running the offense goes. But when Durant and company are shooting like that there's just no way to stop it. Unbelievable.

And Michigan State leading at Wisconsin. They've missed a lot of easy looks too and should be up by at least 10. We'll see.

Off to watch the second halfs...enjoy yall.

I totally agree with you, and find it depressing more than anything. A team as talented as UNC should be playing a lot better this time of year, but they're just not into it. I'm interested to see how the ACC tournament goes.

I also think Kansas is the best team in the country right now...

I'm with the first one. Having the actual Jayhawk on the shirt is key, and the second one is lacking in that department. The red and blue on the first make it known you are a Kansas fan.

So I'm back from Philly, where I went to the Xavier @ LaSalle game. It was an ugly ballgame. Xavier was behind most of the contest, including trailing 38-32 at halftime in front of a paltry crowd of 1,400 at Tom Gola Center. But X took the lead for good at the 10-minute mark, and went on to win, 76-65. With the win, Xavier clinched a share of the A-10 Regular Season Championship with a 13-3 record. UMass is also sharing, after their 71-67 win at St. Joseph's yesterday. Xavier has the #1 seed in next week's A-10 Tournament in Atlantic City, NJ, by virtue of their 83-77 victory over UMass in January.

As for Bryan's remark about Xavier being a "bracket buster", uh oh. I liked it better when nobody knew about X, and the team could just start slaying the big boys. We'll see. I don't think it will be too difficult for Xavier to get to the A-10 Championship game, because their side of the bracket is not particularly good. So hopefully, you all will be able to watch them next Saturday on ESPN.

A few thoughts. Drexel lost today in the CAA Semis to VCU. Are they getting an at-large? I think they are. Creighton beat S.Illinois in the MVC title game today. Did they take away a bid from another at-large hopeful? Probably not, but I suppose it's possible. Not a question, just a statement: I hate Billy Packer, and Jim Nantz's stock goes WAY down when paired with Mr. "I hate any team that's not from a BCS Conference" Packer. What a tool. Next week on Selection Sunday, he'll be talking about his alma mater, Wake Forest, should be getting into the tournament because of their victory over Virginia. :mad Sorry for that rant.

One other point: Siena vs. Marist, Part 3, is on at 6pm on MSG, for those of you that have the station and care. Marist won both meetings this season, both in Overtime. Should be a good game....

He went up to swat the ball and then when he saw T had lost possession, he tried to stop his arm as abruptly as possible and it just happened to hit T in the face.

No need to make jokes about it though...he could easily have a broken nose that could effect his play.

I fail to see the humor in a blow that could possibly have resulted in a broken nose and have a huge impact on UNC in the NCAA Tournament. I'm honestly curious what is funny about an elbow?

I'd also like to know how he got owned? He took an elbow directly to the face, got up and was ready to tear out Henderson's prostate before multiple people had to hold him back and get him to leave the court so he'd be restrained.

I do have a problem with someone leading with their elbow, but also consider the fact that Hansbrough was fouled by two other players and undoubtedly pushed into it a little bit. It all happened in a split second and Henderson had very little time to react. Granted, it should be a fundamental part of your game to know better, but I can't say he did it out of malace. Hansbrough is my favorite player and I'd defend him to the death, but I saw no intent on Henderson's part of harming anyone.

I'm not going to argue with you anymore about this. You started this by calling me "douche" (original, by the way) for making a harmless joke about an, IMO, accidental elbow to the face. I understand you have to defend the guys on your favorite team, i understand it was a huge game and as a fan you get really worked up in it, and I would probably have reacted the same way if that happened to DJ White or someone else on IU. I would have actually probably apologized for being insensitive right away if you wouldn't have reacted how you did (namely, sarcasm and "douche"). A simple "hey man, thats not cool" or something similar would have probably made me think about what i said and apologize immediately.

But whatever, sorry for poking fun at the elbow to the face. I'm not going to waste any more time arguing about this and taking away from GOOD college ball discussion, good luck to UNC in the tournament.

He did bring his elbow back in, but then he proceeded to swing his elbow forward. I've watched the replay several times, and I think he swung his elbow out of frustration.

I don't know, I'd have to watch it again. Whatever the case, it happened and there's nothing we can do about it. It's a crappy situation for both teams.

As for a potential UNC-Maryland rematch...:eek

Wow, I'm spent. What a game. One of the most well-played games by us this year, especially the 1st half and late in the 2nd.

I was in the risers and I could see too much of when Tyler went down, but when he came up I almost shit my pants. I've never seen that much blood, THAT close. I'm glad he came up raging to go though, nobody would stand a chance against that dude. It's too bad we live in a civilized society, I'm not sure a single person wearing dark blue in that building would have survived if the fans had their way. That hate was VERY palpable.

BTW, Tyler came out for the senior speeches and cutting the net with two pieces of gauze in his nose. He looked just fine. He'll be out for blood if we play dook again.

Apparently, the girl I was covering the game with said so, Coach K was a jerk in the press conference about the foul, saying we still had in our starters so why should they (dook) stop playing? Too bad Mike Copeland was in at the scorer's table ready to check in for Tyler when the foul happened. Roy wanted no part of the discussion on the foul in the press conference.

All in all, I like where our team is going after this game. We backed our way into the conference championship, but won it nonetheless. Hopefully we can have some real consistency now. #1 seed is up for grabs.

Dammit! So I am TOTALLY out of the loop on all the discussion in here. All I know is what I can figure out from reading in here. I know that a kid named Henderson (I'm assuming he plays for Duke) elbowed Hansbrough in the face, and broke his nose? And I also know that according to one of you here, Hansbrough bounced up off the floor ready to rip Henderson's testicles off. That's pretty pissed. BUT....

Yea, Gerald Henderson, who was having an incredible game, was defending Tyler after he got an Oboard and ended up elbowing him in the face. Tyler was bleeding, ALOT. Gerald got thrown out and will be suspended a game. I'm sure you can find a replay in the next couple hours.

He didn't spring up, he sat there on the ground for about 20 seconds bleeding. IMO the elbow was intentional and it was funny to hear the announcers try to say that it wasn't. Sorry I haven't read back before this page but if Henderson was going for the ball then he is the worst basketball player out there. He went for the elbow, and he landed it. He executed a real good basketball elbow, it's too bad he didn't have the right timing.

figured after the rough moment at the end of today's game, some of you Tar Heel fans might like to see some lighter Psycho T moments. here's a video i found of him and Bobby Frasor playing "texas" style ping-pong. the first person to win two points in a row wins. the loser has to pull his shirt up over his head and put his hands behind his back while the winner gets to hit the ball as hard as he can into the other guys stomach / chest. HILARIOUS!!! :lol :lol :lol

his nose isn't broken. I believe that henderson intentionally went in hard, not necasarily to hit TH like that, but he went in too hard with 14.5 seconds left while he is down by around 14? that is ridiculous.. learn to control your anger. yeah i'd be pissed too if my team sucked, but that shows horrible sportsmanship. i'm sure coach k had something to say to him.

also i read on espn.com that tyler laughed about it after the game. bobby frasor was interviewed and said that tyler asked him "if he saw him when he got up?" (meaning that tyler knew he had a fit of rage) i would NOT want psycho T coming after me.. thats for sure.

there's a guy on another message board i frequent this time of year that does mock Dickie V articles after every Duke game. pretty funny stuff... here's the "article" with his thoughts on today's UNC v. Duke game... :lol

Hey hoops fans, D1ckie V here with post-game thoughts on another classic Duke-Carolina match-up!
Well, congratulations are in order for Carolina. They really brought a strong game in the paint and did what they had to do to break their two game losing streak.
But you have to give credit to Duke as well, baby! I really thought their incredible effort was a perfect microcosm of the way they have overachieved this entire season. Once again, their players left everything on the floor, and they went down swinging, literally, to the final minute! It's what you call passion, intensity, and pride coming together in a perfect storm!
I really thought Josh McRoberts stepped it up big time for the Dukies. Just look at that game line: 9 points on 3 for 7 shooting, to go with his five fouls, six turnovers, and one goal tend - all in only 36 minutes of playing time! Just another day at the office for this quintessential Duke big man! And did you notice that sequence in the second half? When he laid there in the lane, flat on his back, for a good fifteen seconds? Talk about season microcosms! And what a heady play, too - trying to draw the foul all while stealing some much need rest time! It's multitasking with a capital M!
I was also impressed with Demarcus Nelson's play. Another 5 of 15 shooting performance there, and only 2 fouls! That's right, two fouls, in 35 minutes of PT! It?s just incredible, especially when you consider his aggressive style of play. We hear so much about a player's assist to turnover ratio, but I think you really have to start giving credit to players like Demarcus for their incredible fouls to fouls called ratio! I know all Duke players would rate highly here, but Mr. Nelson has to have a 10:1 ratio. I mean, he pulls shirts, he pushes off, he even throws a forearm to the face of Mr. Hansbrough with nary a whistle blown! That's what you call fouling under the radar, my friends! It's just awesome, with a capital A!!
But the real PTP'er of this game had to be Greg Paulus. And I'm not just talking about his awesome stat line, my friends. No, with Mr. Paulus you have to also factor in his incredible emotional leadership. Take that early first half play when he dribbled the rock off his thigh and straight out of bounds. Did you notice what he did? He immediately turned around to his teammates and clapped his hands, urging them all to keep their chins up after his turnover. What leadership!
And it was so good to see this reaction from Mr. Paulus because he's usually so hard 0n himself after a mistake. Like I said during the Maryland game, this kid is such a perfectionist, and he just beats himself up after a mistake on the court. Yes sir, I have no doubt that Mr. Paulus beats himself far more than you or I will ever know!
And just think how dangerous that could be? To beat yourself every time THIS guy makes a mistake? Are you kidding me? We're talking masochist with a capital M!
And, of course, no analysis of a Duke-Carolina game is complete without discussion of the two coaching legends. Roy Williams really did a great job getting his team up after a two game skid. But I really have to give the edge here to Coach Michael Krzyzewski, the ultimate Rolls Roycer. Have you ever seen a coach so passionate about his team? Like the incredible floor general he is, he was doing every thing he could to pull his troops through with a W. Did you notice how he even lobbied for Mr. McRoberts on that first half goal-tending call? It was as if he honestly believed that there should have been no call made when McRoberts shoved his hand through the basket to prevent the score! That?s what you call working the referees at every opportunity, my friends! And he's such an incredible teacher of the game, too. Did you notice how late in the second half, as his starters' tongues were dragging on the floor, he just kept his bench players bolted to the bench, with not so much as a wrinkle in their all black warm-ups? He could have put one of those high school All-Americans into the game to spell his exhausted starters, but, no, he insisted that all of his bench players continue to watch and learn.
Yes, my friends, Coach K wants to ensure that each player has all of his tools fully developed before putting them into a game of this magnitude. And no one knows college tools like Coach K!

The bottom line here is this: Carolina came away with a hard fought W, but there is still plenty of fight left in these Dukies!

Oh, and speaking of fighting, I really thought that was a terrible call made on Henderson at the end of the game. It?s such a shame that the officials had to mar a great game by overreacting to incidental contact on a meaningless play. More on that subject later, my friends!

EDIT - sorry it's hard to read, the copy and paste jacked it up a bit....

"I want to go back out there. Like this." - Tyler Hansbrough

i like that kid.... :thumbsup

I'm not sure whether that quote is my favorite part of the article or this paragraph ...

At that point, Hansbrough's instincts kicked in and he did what he'd been doing all day--outfought McRoberts for the rebound. It's encoded in Hansbrough's DNA: ball in air, launch self towards ball. Who would you rather be--the guy who hits Hansbrough in the face or the guy who tells him to stop giving maximum effort on the court?

That last sentence poses a great question.

Great article! Psycho T is really turning into one of my favorite players. He's probably battling for the #1 spot on my list and if he stays another year or continues to tear it up, he'll easily supplant Jamison.

If Tyler could reach Cota/Felton status in my eyes it would easily be the biggest achievement of his career.

ACC tournament bracket...... that Duke v. NC State game intrigues me.

http://www.theacc.com/sports/m-baskbl/acc-mtournament-central-2007.html

The teams that cause Duke the biggest problems are ones with athletic guards that can consistently blow by Paulus and Scheyer, ie UNC, Maryland, VT, GT. Astur is a hell of a player though, and Costner has the ability to abuse the Duke big men down low.

That's a great call, but I'm upping the stakes. We got posters here from the Big East, ACC, Big Ten, Big XII, and PAC-10. I don't like the SEC, so I'm not doing them. First of all, let's get something straight Justin. We are positive thinkers in here; so shouldn't we also include XAVIER in team's who could steal Drexel's bid if they lose in their conference tournament? I damn well hope so.

I believe the teams bolded are OUT. App St. and GW for sure. And I just think that Drexel would get taken from the CAA before ODU would. That Georgetown win just won't stand up. Drexel, besides all of their nonconference success early on, went on the road and beat MVC Champ Creighton not too long ago. Losing today was definitely not positive, but I wouldn't count Drexel out yet.

And since it's a LITTLE relevant, the A-10 Women's title game is tomorrow, at Cintas Center on Xavier's campus: Xavier vs. St. Joseph's. I know that Xavier will get an at-large bid regardless, not sure about St. Joe's. Anyway, if anyone cares.

Do we have a schedule of games that are on tomorrow? I know CAA Final is on at 7pm Eastern on ESPN. What else?

What else?

The WCC and MAC titles are tomorrow.

I just picked Xavier to win the A10 tourney, so we won't worry about them losing their bid ;) ;) ;)

App St. does have a weak case. So does George Dubbya. Ah shit I don't know where I'm going with this anymore :lol I just think they had great seasons and it's a shame to see them out. :p

So it's the CAA, WCC, MAAC getting bids tomorrow. I believe that is:

CAA: George Mason vs. Virginia Commonwealth
MAAC: Siena vs. Niagara
WCC: Gonzaga vs. St. Mary's/Santa Clara

Do we have times on those? Any other games? And for the record, I want to highlight UMass. I think they should be considered. But they HAVE to either: 1) get the auto-bid for the A-10 2) lose to Xavier in the A-10 Final. The ONLY team they can lose to and still have a shot at an at-large is Xavier. But that UMass team is too good not to be showcased in the Big Dance.

Okay well for anyone who's gonna play, let's do all 7 conferences. 1 pt for first rounds, 3 points for quarters, 5 for semis, 10 for champs yeah?
Bob and I can do standings. If these rules are alright with him of course :)

PS. Bob do your SEC!

Those are the only title games. GM/VCU is at 7ET and the other two are at 9ET. I pick GM (for obvious sentimental reasons, Siena (because their name is shorter) and for Gonzaga to lose (I'm sick of em).

We'll just have to see. I know nothing about UMASS. If they fail to impress me I'm off for your head!

watching college basketball tonight on ESPN.....

Len Elmore just said his #1 seeds are UCLA, Ohio St., Florida, and UNC.... :confused

One of those teams will be out pending conference tournaments...you gotta have Kansas in there.

On another note, in seeing a replay of the Henderson elbow today, I now feel it was intentional...:o
