aren't you a Jelly fan? the easy way to fix the problem you've been having is to pick KU to lose in the first round.... :thumbsup

Yeah, but the team they play in the first round can't be any worse than the teams they've been beating by 40 all year in the Big 12.:p

Yes, I am a "jelly" fan, by that I'm assuming you mean Kentucky. :lol

I've always rooted for KU though as I have a ton of respect for their program.

Plus, this year's team is bad ass.

sure they can. the team they play in the first round can be a conference champion, which the teams they've been beating by 40 (or more) all year in the Big XII can't be.... because.... KU doesn't like to share. :cool

tough question.

by Kentucky standards, he should be gone. he can't recruit, and he's not a great coach. what he's accomplished there would get him a lifetime contract at most schools, though. the problem is, UK isn't most schools.

he's got to go. period.

You know I have a really tough time answering that question. I don't know if UK has gotten worse over they years, its just that others teams have gotten so much better. Tubby has to be partially responsible for that. I do think he's a good coach though and if they choose to get rid of him they better hire someone pretty damn good!

Agreed. Kentucky doesn't hang banners for ALMOST going to the Final Four or winning 20 games a year.

UK has definitely gotten worse. Yes, other teams are good, but they haven't gotten so good to the point that Kentucky is the 4th best team in the SEC EAST. The guy just can't recruit to the level needed at arguably the greatest program in college basketball, and I think he's just lost his passion. I mean when he got there, Kentucky was a mini-dynasty. Now, fans are ecstatic over winning a conference tournament game on a Thursday, and the future of next year's team hinges on whether one guy comes back and we get a couple of recruits. 10 years is long enough. *End rant*. :)

Tubby's got to go. Yes, the rest of the nation is getting better, but that's because recruits who normally go to Kentucky are going to other schools. Seriously, I could shit in a box and enclose a scholarship offer with it and I'd have more success recruiting at Kentucky than Tubby.

in my eyes it's gonna turn into a larry coker situation quickly. i loved him at UM but hell that football program has insane demands...i say tubby has one more year and then he's out

kydmb99

His recruiting is his biggest fault.

Yes, but even when he has gotten elite recruits, he can't do a lot with them. He's had two teams dubbed "Team turmoils" because he couldn't manage the talent, and there were rumors of fighting, arguing with coaches, etc...He's also had at least one player transfer out of the program every year and many of the elite recruits he has gotten haven't played up to what they were expected to. Heck, Joe Crawford and Randolph Morris, the two McD's AA on this year's team TRIED to get out their freshman year but just couldn't. Also, the guy just will not change. In radio shows this year, he continues to talk about how his system works, the players just aren't executing. I'm sorry, but an outdated system that revolves around having your guards stand around and pound the ball just doesn't work. After 10 years, you get a pretty good indication of what a guy can do, and I've had about enough of Tubby.

But oh well, Kentucky is a great program, and we'll be back in elite status soon enough. :)

Yeah, but Larry Coker actually performed much better at his tenure than Tubby has. Personally, I'd like to see the AD ball up, get Tubby out of after this year, take the hits from the media for a week, hire a new coach, and start rebuilding rather than drag it out.

I agree that he has brought in some really talented guys and had trouble molding them into good college players, but it seems to me that every top notch recruit he brings in is just indifferent about everything. I view that as a recruiting fault rather than a coaching fault, as you can't coach players who just don't care.

Oh, definitely. I mean they should definitely have someone in place before they did that, but I think they should start very soon rather than give him another year and delay the rebuilding process. I really don't think, despite all the talking heads talking about how "unreal" and "wacky" our fans are, we would have a hard time finding a really good coach to come in and have us back in the hunt in 2-3 years.

Hey, Roy is superb, no doubt. But Billy D is no slouch.

I don't see that happening.

Yeah, I mean I don't expect it. However, Billy D was an assistant under Pitino, his wife is from Lexington, he's always talked about how great of program Kentucky is, and he has a clause in his contract that allows him to opt out of it for Kentucky and Duke.. (I read this in my local paper not long ago. Feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken.)

Also, I mean Florida is booming now. However, it will ALWAYS be a football school. Kentucky is basketball, basketball, basketball, and if he were to come to UK and turn this around, he would be the most popular man in the state.

Again, I know it's a long shot, but I think UK should at least try. He would be my #1 option.

^ Legit Billy D points there Jared, but he wouldn't leave until Florida was in the waning period of their dominance right now. Maybe in 2-4 years. Big maybe.

And this game better not go to OT, I don't have any periods to sleep in tomorrow! Maybe 1st and 2nd, but I doubt it. Oh well, it's March, who cares about sleep.

WSU defense is pretty scary, they're quick to the ball and stick like glue, probably the best D in the conference if not tied with UCLA.

Well, Noah, Horford and Brewer are all likely gone after this year. He has some good recruits coming in, but next year would be a bit of a rebuilding year for Florida. I think if he doesn't go now, he won't at all.

I see, good point. But we'll see, it's still a big maybe, like I've said to just about every coach you've ever suggested :) ;)

And such clutch shots tonight but Rochestie. Gotta be the nail. Kudos to WU for making big shots to stay in though, but WSU played nearly perfect down the last 2 minutes. Just gotta hold on for 30 seconds.

I'm so f'ing pumped now.

I just finished my gigantic, big ass, f'ing Accouting Systems project on Excel. It's March. Conference tourny's are happening. My dad and I booked a hotel and airfare to NOL for the 1st round of the Tourny. A&M is almost a lock for a 2 seed and NOL. If it happens, I will be spending next Thurs-Mon in NOL(which includes St. Patty's day on Saturday).

We should just move Christmas to March. It's the right thing to do.

Yeah, Durant is a good cover for bad coaching. :)

Edit: but for real. I don't think Barnes is that bad. I think KU would like him. He runs a fast pace offense with the talent he brings in, and from what I read, that's what KU wants

I personally think the pecking order for the KU job is

1. Donovan
2. Barnes(doesn't have the fan support at texas. has east coast ties)
3. the field

ok I was really confused when I read this...I had to back read. I still didn't get it though but I finally realized you were talking about Kentucky. not Kansas. I would have got UK right away but I was like...Kansas?!?!?! They're good this year. Why would they replace Self? Sure they'll go out of the Big Dance in the 1st or 2nd round like they almost always do, but that's to be expected now. I mean come on...

But yeah. Kentucky. Give Tubby one more year. He won fuckin 21 games this year. Shit I'd love to have a 20 win season.

Wow. I had to back read like 6 pages cuz I went out last night and getting back at 4, crashed. I freakin' love this thread. I think that WF/GT was one of the better ACC games I've ever witnessed. It was just like Texas/A&M in that each time the other team would answer a huge shot with an even bigger one. An incredible day for the ACC yesterday (dook goes down!)

I love how everybody is doing the best in the conferences they know the least about (me in PAC-10, Big East, Primo in ACC, etc.) while absolutely sucking at their own conferences (I have zero points in the ACC). The NCAA is gonna be ridiculous this year. Should make up for last year's turd.

True, but they've lost to Tennessee, Arizona, and Georgia Tech and that's it. If you lose only 3 games a year and it's all from tournament-bound teams (Arizona maybe), there can't be TOO big of a knock for them. Oregon's officially in the final. Hot damn. USC looking for 3-0 against the Ducks tomorrow :D:twenty4 :lol If it is USC, I think it'll be a good game. If it's WSC, I really think Oregon will run it. But Ducks/Trojans will be a tossup, IMO.

These conference tournaments have been more difficult to pick that the NCAAs typically are. Incredible upsets today, State played out of their minds in the 2nd half, shooting around 75% for the half after a 33% 1st. That's the story of their season.

03-10-2007, 04:02 AM
True, but they've lost to Tennessee, Arizona, and Georgia Tech and that's it. If you lose only 3 games a year and it's all from tournament-bound teams (Arizona maybe), there can't be TOO big of a knock for them. They've beaten Oklahoma, Kentucky, and Gonzaga as well as dominating their conference in ridiculous fashion. They don't have a necessarily BETTER case than the Aggies, but they have a pretty damn reasonable one.

Man I hope you are right.

I'm worried about there 2 seed, b/c my old man and I have a hotel (which is refundable) right off of Bourbon Street in NOL:D

Wash St. going down was helpful tonight. For the Aggies case, it would be nice for Pitt to lose in the championship game. People started to say Pitt was overrated during the year, but winning their conference tourny could push them over the Aggies for that 2 seed. Even if t.u. wins the BigXII tourny, I don't think they get the 2 seed over us. We both lost to OSU, we split the series with texas, and they lost at KU when we won there. I think that just about covers my basis.

Sunday can't get here fast enough.

Huge statline for Oden. He was a beast when I flipped to the game at commercials of the Carolina game. It's huge he's using the right hand more now.

You know who else is putting it all together? Ty Lawson. He's got 15 assists and just three turnovers so far at the ACC Tournament and is completely controlling the offense. With Lawson playing like this there isn't a team in the nation I wouldn't like Carolina's chances against. Hansbrough still wasn't himself today, but his intensity turned up to the max.

OK all, I had to go back 20 pages or so, read the first 6 or 7, then said SCREW IT!

Just got in about 45 minutes ago from Atlantic City. A quick trip, unfortunately. That jerk Seekupig was right :lol and Rhody beat the damn Muskies. Xavier just never could get anything going. I still felt relatively certain we would get the dub, the way we were hanging around. Anytime a solid basketball team can "hang around" on a bad night, I still expect that more talented team to get the win. But terrible defensive rebounding and bad 3-point shooting ultimately did us in.

I don't know; all the bigtime bracketologists still have us IN. I would feel a helluva lot better with a loss tonight in the A-10 Championship than I do last night. I'm about 75% sure we get in. Gonna be sweatin tomorrow night.

Justin, I didn't get to the standings, but I know I suck. I think all of my champions are out of their respective tournaments. How about those ACC games yesterday though? And the GTown/Notre Dame game? Awesome basketball.

So I'm taking this Xavier loss for what it is. It's a loss, and we cannot "play ourselves in" to the tournament any more. I think at 24-8 and a 33 RPI, we gotta be in. Maybe I need to be talked into it some more?
