The first weekend always looks lame on paper.
Wow, couldn't disagree more. There are some very intriguing matchups, first weekend=the best weekend of March Madness. Maybe we have different feelings on college basketball, but to me a game even like Oral Roberts vs Washington state is interesting on paper. Same with Long Beach St and Tennessee, Marquette and Mich St(Izzo vs Crean).....I could go on.

Yeah, our next test isn't for like 2 weeks, all the material comes straight from the textbook, I can get the notes from a friend, I have a 95, and she drops the lowest test score. Yep, I'm watching basketball.

Nobody lost a champion
3 people lost a finals participant
HolyCow and mizzoudmbfan are the only two who didn't lose a "elite 8" team.
Also here is the maximum potential points left a player get:
(meaning if that players bracket plays out perfectly from hear on out, this will be their final total)

I like the first weekend, but not near as much as I love next weekend. This weekend is all about underdogs, where next weekend is about championship level teams playing single elimination basketball.

Well put man. That being said, I love this weekend. #13 Valpo from 98, #10 Gonzaga from 99, #14 Tennessee-Chattanooga was beaten by #10 Providence to move the Friars to the Elite Eight, a #15 Coppin St. squad, an 11th-seeded Washington team from 98, #8 Rhode Island from 98 (Seekupig, that one was for you ;) ), I could go on. (And yes, for the record, I listed some good underdog teams I remembered, and then I went back and found the years and seeds.)
Teams like those above are the reasons why I LOVE college basketball with all my heart....

Clay, and any other UNC fans who might read this, I read an article today where Lawson said he's coming back. That's huge if he does. It keeps UNC as a national title contender rather than a top 15 team next year. Hansbrough also again stated he's coming back. Wright said he's focused on the tournament and hasn't thought about it at all yet. I think that translates to "bye bye I'm a top 5 pick."
Don't count your chickens yet. Sean May...

[QUOTE=willthethrill;5759721]Don't count your chickens yet. Sean May.../QUOTE]
I know, I know, but Sean May had the whole team around him leave. His draft stock wasn't going to be higher if he stayed with last year's team around him. Ty's will go nowhere but it. After I posted that I found another article and here is part of it that really gets my hopes up. It's a great article. I'll post the link below. In the other one Ty said Roy has told him he's not ready and he knows he's not ready.
Unfortunately, Lawson has become the focal point of one of the hottest rumors surrounding UNC basketball in that many people expect him to turn pro after this season.
"Naw, I heard that rumor too and I was surprised myself," Lawson said. "Everybody was like, 'I heard an ESPN analyst say you are leaving this year, from a good source.'
"I haven't been talking to nobody about that. I'm having fun being a kid right now. So I don't think I'm going anywhere anytime soon."

Davidson scored 90+ 8 times this year including 3 hundred point games. Their 4 losses this season came at Michigan (by 10), at Missouri (6), at Duke (28), and at home to Appalachian St. (7), who went 25-8 on the way to the NIT. Davidson has streaks of 12 straight and 13 straight seperated by the App. St. loss.

First of all, :thumbsdow to more than one bracket. Go all-in or go home.
My second set of games looks pretty dicey at the moment. Oral Roberts is struggling, as is ODU. Not really sure about everything else. My average for the first round games is usually around 24-8ish, though I have been above and below. I think 24-8 to 25-7 is a solid first two days. But something tells me I'm gonna struggle to get there....

I lied before. I've only lost 2 games thus far, and GW will be a 3rd (and a Sweet 16 team at that). No more losses tonight, I can't afford any!

So this is just a horrible showcase of the Atlantic 10. Wow, this conference just can't catch a break. We finally get a chance to come out and prove that there are some good basketball teams in this conference, and then they come out and play like this. Not good. Xavier will have to pick it up for the conference tonight. Let's bring it X! :D

Yuuup, so can Butler. Well, Butler's Graves is a bit overrated and they don't really have MAIN stars, but when Graves fails to show up on the three point line, it seems his teammates (pete campbell, brandon crone, etc.) have bailed him out a few times over the course of the season. Butler is the only Indiana team I'm rootin for. They are an underdog at that. And Mike Green is a badass too.

See, I knew about Butler. Vanderbilt though, kinda gets burried because they play in the SEC. If you're talking about SEC basketball, you're usually talking about Florida or Kentucky and Tennessee, you really don't hear much about Vandy.

That is true. It wasn't until recently when I started paying attention to Vandy. I've got them in my final four brackets (and I know, I got some laughs for some of my picks), but I'm thinking they very well could do it.

what's wrong with Durant? I feel blessed to have the opportunity to watch him play basketball. He's the most dominant college player I've seen in my lifetime. I think they'll win tonight, but I can't see them doing much against UCLA. IU is wayyyyyyy too thin inside. DJ gets extremely limited help and everyone is prone to foul trouble. They play great defense under Coach Sampson, and if they are hitting their 3s then i think they could be a tough out. IU lives and dies by the 3, period.

I'm in dire need of a perfect 16/16 tomorrow (and in need of some more entertaining games).
My winners for Friday:
Florida
Arizona
Winthrop
Oregon
Georiga Tech
Wisconsin
Kansas
Villanova
Virginia Tech
Southern Illinois
USC
Texas
Long Beach State
Virginia
Nevada
Memphis
nothing TOO ballsy. I'd like to get at least 14 and maybe that could save my bracket.

Possible Points Remaining.
it factors in teams that you've lost that you had going further. it helps figure out who's really leading when you get past the first weekend.....

It already has a number in the thousands assigned to it.
They range from 1560 to 1460.
Is it the most points you could earn maybe?

I've watched MSU all year, and they've been wildly inconsistent...when it came down to it I just thought that Marquette could still pull it out. God was I wrong!:lol

I didn't totally know what to expect from them.

just realized i picked Indiana to beat UCLA in the second round..... that would be huge.
Me too.
I always go with the Hoosiers for some reason. They looked really solid tonight. So we have a chance.
I always start out 12-4, and normally go 10-6 or 11-5 on day two. So I feel alright. I lost one sweet 16 team today, so I am ok.

they played a solid game tonight. We didn't shoot well, but our defense was great and I believe we tied our season high in rebounds with 46. We outhussled them big time, hit big shots when it mattered, and won comfortably.
Rod Wilmont is absolutely Indiana's x-factor. As Rod goes, so goes the team. UCLA is obviously a much better team than Gonzaga, but I definitely feel like IU has a chance on Saturday if they knock down a few more shots and keep the hussle and good defense going. Definitely going to need some help for DJ White inside though.
