So according to ESPN the bracket I took time to make educated guesses on and entered into every pool for money as well the Ants pool I got 11 right. While the bullshit bracket I entered just for the sake of winning 10,000 and entered in zero pools got 14 right.

What's good tonight gentlemen? Just in from the bar, and I'm feeling pretty damn good right now, you all can figure out why....
That said, we're on a mission. We went to Lexington to win two games. We're halfway accomplished. Ten four-minute wars away from showing who's tops in the state of Ohio....
And for the record: anybody find it interesting that the last time BYU won a tournament game (1993) happens to be the last time Xavier was in the tournament as a 9-seed? They beat 8th-seeded New Orleans by 18, the gave top-seeded Indiana all they could handle in Indianapolis, losing 73-70. Maybe we can come out on the top-side of that score on Saturday.
12-4 on the day, but my East Rutherford region is pretty messed up. 3 of my 4 losses are there, and I lost GW as a Sweet 16. Also lost Oral Roberts and Marquette from there. My other loss was Old Dominion.
Major props to Virginia Commonwealth for pulling off the upset over the Dukies. Also to Davidson in a great ballgame; the folks of Buffalo really got a college basketball treat tonight.
Great Day 1. On to Day 2....

Really, really happy Xavier won. Unfortunately I have to go with my current school over my hometown favorite on Saturday. Entirely too many weapons for Xavier to match up with. Oh well, I'm glad they made it into the final 32.
In other news, I had Duke in the Elite Eight . . .

10-6 on the day. 15/16 left in Sweet 16, so I'm not out yet.
I'm more worried about the Aggies playing Louisville on Sat. We HAVE to hit some threes to open up the zone defense.

12-4. Missed on Duke, Davidson, Stanford, and BYU. I had Duke in the Sweet 16 only because I thought Pittsburgh was even more overrated.
My only upsets for the day are Winthrop and Albany. I have Winthrop in the Sweet 16, so that's a big one.

ROCK CHALK
Our Father, who art in Lawrence,
Hallowed be thy Game.
Thy tourney come,
Thy championship will be done,
In Atlanta as it is in Allen Field House.
Give us this day our deserved victories.
And forgive us our turnovers,
As we forgive Roy who double-crossed against us.
And lead us not into defeat,
But deliver us from East Coast bias,
For Kansas is the basketball kingdom,
And the tradition,
And the glory,
For ever and ever.
Amen.

Apparently me and this guy did our brackets together. I nearly lost an Elite 8 team in Oregon as well. I found myself rooting for Miami :lol What's wrong with me? I think I tend to make a real bracket, then always end up rooting for the underdog when watching the game.
Still trying to get myself back into neutral after that Creighton game. Man that douchebag Funk pisses me off. Awful, awful decisions. All the time. What a jerk. I bet you wish you never said that one! What a 2nd half, if we play like that, I really feel comfortable playing any team in the country, even Florida. Tucker is unbelievable and carried the team on his back. If we can consistently get Bohannon and Taylor going, with our defense, I like our chances....
Then again, if they ever play as bad as they did the first half at any point in the rest of this tournament, they will be an easy out.

Yeah sorry about that. I guess what I was saying is that yeah they were 1-1 with them, but they lost to Notre Dame. Had they beaten Notre Dame, I have to think they're IN (though who knows, I thought they were IN when they lost to Notre Dame). Win again vs. Georgetown, and you're DEFINITELY IN. And beat Pitt in the title game, and you get the automatic (like they had the previous two seasons). So I don't really know. It's my bedtime, I'm blathering about nothing :lol

Arizona is total shit.
I have some fixation on Arizona ever since the 2001 runner-up squad. I always pick them and they mostly always do me good.
In '02, as a #3, they won two.
In '03, as a #1, they made it to the Elite Eight.
In '04, as a #9, they got bounced on the first day.
In '05, as a #3, they made it to the Elite Eight.
In '06, as a #8, they won one.
In '07, as a #8, they got bounced on the first day.
I don't know how to explain it, I just always go with Arizona and I can't believe they dropped it to freaking Purdue.
ANYWAY... Still 24-8, all Sweet 16 intact. Upset of the day... #9 Michigan State OVER #1 UNC. Watch for it!
Go Terps, Go Eagles!
Dan
P.S. I usually get one region 100% correct for the first round, and this year, I correctly picked each of the eight games in the San Antonio region. Anyone else have one shining star in their bracket?

Once tOSU starts exploiting Oden, X is done for. Unless of course they start making their 3's or stop shooting them. 1/9 from deep is unacceptable, especially considering how effective their motion offense is. Very lucky to be down by 4.

I'm kind of inclined to think that too but without him in it's a three point shooting team. They're great when the threes are dropping. When they're not, you're looking at a very average team. Oden gives them another weapon that helps balance out the team.

He's not quick, he's not that great of a passer, he's just intimidating. I don't know how many damn 3ft shots he's missed this year, but that's practically his range. Too one dimensional. He is another weapon, but doesn't really have all the firepower one would expect. He's not the best freshman on the team and that's for damn sure.

Well fellas....Where to start....
I'm not gonna buy into the whole "Xavier was the underdog, Xavier did a great job, hell of an effort", etc., and I'm glad no one in here is saying that. 59-50 going into the last 4-minute war. It was there for the taking. And dammit, we let them off the hook. How about those OSU guards making 2 3s from about 30 feet in the last 2 minutes?
Ohio St. missed a shot, and Cage got the rebound underneath, and received what I consider to be "more than a foul" from Oden. I was up calling for Intentional, as was everybody else in the arena wearing blue. Unfortunately we didn't get that call. I didn't expect to get many calls today, and we didn't. If we were gonna win it, we were gonna have to win it outright, and we damn near did. It's very unfortunate that Cage is going to be remembered in this game as "the guy who missed the second FT" to allow OSU to go down and force OT. Cage was 8-for-8 from the field for 23 points, in a game when they really needed someone to step up. It's just a shame....
More to come later :shrug

So don't misinterpret this, please. But after talking to a lot of people in Cincinnati, and my own thoughts on this, I pose the question to you all, being objective viewers: was Greg Oden's fifth foul an intentional foul? It seemed to me that Xavier Forward Justin Cage went flying after he got hit, and he seemed that he was pushed by Oden. Thoughts, anyone?

You're probably right. Was it an intentional foul? Sure. But you're not going to get that called at that point in the game with so much on the line.

I hear you. I knew going into it that we weren't gonna get any calls; like I said, if we were gonna win the game, we were gonna have to win it outright. And we did have a chance to ice it with two FTs. I just don't buy that the refs "didn't want to call it with so much on the line." I hope they don't work like that. I hope in that split second that the ref who called the foul didn't think it warranted an Intentional. I thought it did, but oh well. At that point in the game, we're still in a situation to get another huge victory in our program's history.
So this has been a freakin nightmare of a last 21 hours or so. Been a nightmare. I truly can't believe it happened. We go out and do what we have to do for 3 minutes, and we win the ballgame, and move on to the next round. It happened three years ago, leading Duke all game in the Elite Eight, and then letting it slip away in the end (albeit we really got screwed by the refs in that game). Then last year against Gonzaga, we led all game, only to let that punk Morrison take over at the end. And now the same thing happens this year vs. Ohio State.
Bottom line is, we've proven we can play with the big boys of college basketball. In 2003, we had a Player of the Year in David West, and got a horrible draw in the tourney, having to play the defending champs Maryland in the 2nd round (in a game where we just didn't get anything going).
In 2004, we beat a 10th-ranked Cincinnati team, then won four games in four days (including beating #1 St. Joseph's in the quarters, then beating Dayton on their homecourt for the title) by an average of 19.5 points per game to win the Atlantic 10. Then we beat a Francisco Garcia and Taquan Dean-led Louisville team in the first round, a much bigger and 2nd-seeded Mississippi St. team in the 2nd round, and then J.T. Thomas and Mouton (was his first name Larry) in the Sweet 16. Against Duke in the Elite Eight, we led the majority of the game. Our big man, Anthony Miles, was the dominating force in that game (he had 16 points in 20 minutes), outplaying his counterpart Shelden Williams. He fouled out of the game with 12 minutes to go when he was called for 2 fouls in the span of 6 seconds. Then J.J. Reddick hit two HUGE shots for them, putting the fork in us late, and we lost 66-63.
So, it's been a nightmare of the last 21 hours. If only....

I don't care for the style or pace of Big Ten basketball, but they do play with a lot of heart. Wisconsin losing wouldn't hurt me nearly as badly as it would if Oregon were to fall...
