basketball is mackey....and I haven't been there in so long I hardly even remember it. I'm sure it probably sucks, most things at Purdue do.
Related to Purdue. Not sure if you have the Big Ten Network out there. But if you do, guess who you get to hear for in-studio analysis? That's right; legendary Boilermaker coach Gene Keady :lol I'd imagine that'd be a snooze-fest, huh?

While Brown told his North Carolina team that he wasn't a candidate for the recently-vacated job at the University of Texas, he was soon identified by Longhorn Athletic Director DeLoss Dodds (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DeLoss_Dodds) and the Texas search committee as one of only two men they were interested in hiring. At the time, the Tar Heels had just completed their most successful season in years. The 1997 Tar Heels notched a 10-1 record--only the third 10-win regular season in school history. They were slated to appear in the Gator Bowl (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gator_Bowl) for the second year in a row--only their second (or third) New Year's Day bowl game since the Justice era. They were also all but assured of their highest final ranking in the AP Poll in half a century.
On December 2 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/December_2), 1997 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1997), Brown was contacted while at the ACC's football banquet in Atlanta (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlanta). He agreed to meet with the hiring committee, which included Dodds, Texas coaching legend Darrell Royal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darrell_Royal), several former Texas players, and several important boosters, most notably Tom Hicks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Hicks) (owner of the Dallas Stars (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dallas_Stars) and Texas Rangers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_Rangers_%28baseball%29)), who donated time, energy and the use of his private jet corps to the coaching search that also included an exploratory meeting with Northwestern (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northwestern_University)'s Gary Barnett (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_Barnett) in Chicago (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago).
Brown met the committee on December 3 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/December_3) in the Four Seasons (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_Seasons_Hotels) hotel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hotel) in Atlanta.
The committee was impressed with Brown and Dodds offered him the job on the spot. The offer included a sizeable pay raise to about $750,000 a year (which could climb to as high as $1 million with incentives), and a similar amount to recruit assistants who loved the game, were familiar with college football, and could fit in at Texas.
Brown tentatively accepted, but went back home with his wife, Sally, to ponder the decision and meet with his coaching staff. After thinking about it, he met with his players and promised them that his future was at North Carolina. UNC officials countered with a longer, more lucrative contract than Texas had offered, but Brown changed his mind and stuck by his decision to go to Texas. The players found out later that day about Brown's decision to leave via a press conference.
That Thursday night, Brown flew to Austin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austin%2C_Texas). He was introduced to an enthusiastic Longhorn crowd on Friday.
As a consequence of taking the Texas post, Brown was not on the sidelines during the Tar Heel's 42-3 rout of Virginia Tech in the 1998 Gator Bowl, having been replaced as head coach by defensive coordinator Carl Torbush (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carl_Torbush). To this day, no Tar Heel fan has ever forgiven Brown.
Wow, had no idea. That's shitty.

And despite not liking what came out of Roy's mouth, it was awesome when he said that to Bernstein. That's not a side of Roy that comes out very often.

Ahhh, good hit. So then, for instance, Xavier either got one #24 ranking, or 2 #25 rankings, and so on down the line. So there was a maximum of 150 points, and Carolina got 149 of them. Wow :lol
i gave them a #25 ranking just for you. i had a team in their twice so when i sent him the team i wanted to add, he dropped them to #24. that was my token vote for you, they'll have to earn the rest.... :lol

But that is a little bit different.
UNC is Roy's alma mater, he was very close with Dean Smith and couldn't turn us down the second time.
Mack just bolted a team that he had put in the top 10 and was on the rise and left us high and dry. We are still feeling the effects of that son of a bitch these days, it set our football program back 10 years....
Luckily, we have Butch Davis now.

Heyvent, when not getting in trouble for drugs, is a beast in the post. Jeremy Pargo fits real well in their system. He's great to watch play. I like Bouldin at the other guard. He was one of the bigger recruits the Zags have gotten recently. They grabbed another Top 60 kid to play on the wing. But the guy who I think will really breakout is Micah Downs, who I'm sure Dustin could tell you all about.

Guys, I really get off on you guys continuing to shit all over Duke. Amazing; that would never fly over in the baseball thread, and especially in the football thread with our boy Ryan walking the streets over there. Anyway, I think it's great, having no real affiliation with either team.
I will say this. I was down at Jillian's last March, really upscale sports bar in downtown Albany, watching the Xavier/BYU 1st round game. Duke was playing VCU in that same time slot, so they had that game on, and probably 1 or 2 other games. I think the Duke game ended before the Xavier game did. I remember when that final buzzer went off and Duke lost, there was a collective cheer throughout the entire bar (and it's a big place). It was pretty unbelievable, that EVERY person in the entire place was rooting against Duke :lol
EDIT: Is McRoberts back this year?
UNC41
11-02-2007, 01:11 PM

:eek Wow. Did he have more eligibility left? If he did, he should have gone back. I didn't think he was anything THAT special. I didn't realize he was that highly touted out of high school. Honestly, you really have to wonder who's telling these guys that something's a good idea. And that goes for a lot of things. My favorite was I was on vacation in Jersey this summer, hanging out at the hotel pool. I see this girl in the pool with a bikini on; right about each breast, a bigass lightning bolt up to each collar bone. Like, who in the hell told you that was a good idea? :lol
But really, someone like McRoberts. Who told him he was ready to leave to go to the NBA. It goes for other guys too. Whoever's giving them advice, they need to get rid of.

The first two seem like two opposites don't they? I can't get into exhibitions and that crap. Practices are better. Exhibitions are just what they say: they are for people to come in and see them play, it's all for show, especially since it's supposed to be a big team come in and show off, like 6 dunks and 4 alleyoops, at the expense of a D-2 or D-3 so it's not "embarrassing anyone." Practices are lethal.
That said, what a bad hit for Michigan State. Ouch. Tom Izzo, what happened?

The school is located in Allendale, MI.. basically, it's about 30 minutes west of Grand Rapids, MI.

The athletic program at GVSU is top-notch in Division 2!! The basketball team is 3rd in the preseason rankings. The football team is ranked #1 and has won 4 of the last 5 national championships. They currently have the longest winning streak going in all of college football (36 consecutive wins!). Also, the womens volleyball team is ranked 8th and womens soccer is undefeated and ranked #1.

I'm going to have to keep my eye on this Kamyron Brown. 12 points and 5 steals in 28 minutes on the court. Oregon has a strong base with Taylor, Leunen, Hairston, and Porter. That 5th guy will probably be the best freshman available, and Brown looks promising.
Oregon has a very promising year ahead of them. Not that Churchill Odia has anything to do with it :lol

UNC looked pretty sloppy last night against Shaw. First half was a mix of easy buckets around the rim and poor rebounding. At the start of the second half, the starters had such a hard time getting it going that the entire lineup was pulled, a UNC strategy known as putting in the "Blue Team." That group couldn't do anything either as Shaw climbed within 15 or so of the lead. That lead Roy to put in the 5 guys behind them. UNC scored 5 points in the first 6 minutes of the second half.
2-13 from three is very worrying, as that is one of the great unknowns and keys to this year's team. I don't remember seeing a single made three pointer, but I was also a few minutes late. 12 offensive rebounds by a small Shaw team is disappointing, and there were too many turnovers from the 2 and 3 position, most notably Ellington, Green and Ginyard.
Hansbrough was himself, dominating everything around him. Thompson looked very fluid, leading the break once. He was on the receiving end of some quick scores as he was the first one downcourt, a definite plus as a sort of replacement of Brandon Wright's fastbreak ability.
Lawson looked in control. He really could score at will against this team, and it seems like he doesn't know it yet. But when he wanted to go to the basket, nobody could stop him. He can be just as dominating as Tyler if he wants to be.
All in all, it's an exhibition, and I'm probably giving too much analysis for that sort of thing. UNC 114 - Shaw 62

Ellington played horrible last night.
He HAS to start hitting from 3. Coming out of high school he was supposed to be automatic, but he hasn't shown me that so far.
I know it was an exhibition, but Ellington looked the worst out of anybody.
I left with about 7 minutes left though because I was damn tired, that football game took alot out of me.

Your team is fine. You're ranked #1 in the country for a reason. I know for a fact that exhibition games, to players, is just a big joke. All it is is a chance for the team to run up and down against someone other than themselves. Northern Kentucky was ahead of Xavier most of the game before X put on a late run to win the game. Wow, and so close to the start of the season. I hope it's not serious, and everything is OK. Interesting they are scrimmaging a team from Montreal. You would think they would set a scrimmage from someone in state or near there. That's a travel expense for that team from Canada.
In other news, taking advantage of a new NCAA rule, Xavier was up at the University of Akron yesterday for a scrimmage. It allows two D-1 teams to play each other, but there is NO ONE present for these games. Just players, coaches, and other people that are necessary, such as managers. No score kept, no records kept. No spectators, no press. You can see the positives of this; you can set up different game situations, play a bunch of quarters, etc. The negative for schools like these is you lose out on all the revenue that would be generated from having a home exhibition. So for instance Xavier could get 8, maybe 9,000 for an exhibition game. Without the extra one, you lost that money. Xavier is able to do that this season due to an extra home game on the schedule, due to a late schedule change with Virginia that moved the game from Charlottesville to Cincinnati.

Would your football team just go ahead and lose already! You know the world's getting weirder everyday when Kansas is ranked, nonetheless in the Top 5. I'm looking for all the BCS teams to have 1 loss by the end of the year. That means YOU! And Ohio State. But let's get those Rainbows be the only undefeated team in college football this season.

Probably a pretty big loss for Purdue more than anything. They have a nice class coming in and he really would've helped them reach the level of the other Big Ten powers.
That said, he fits perfectly in UNC's system. I'm psyched to have him. It's nice to know that when Roy goes to plan B (after missing out on the first batch of recruits he wanted), he can still get a top 10 class. Ballin'.

Both teams will be pretty thin in the frontcourt next year, so letting a kid as talented as Zeller out of state is a pretty big loss. And we all know what happens when a post player leaves Indiana and heads to Chapel Hill. :D

i mean for our recovering program, i think he would have been a great fit. purdue needs a big man. they havent had one in a while. i have a feeling he could regret this decision. with him being an indiana bred player i think the big ten would have fit him well, but with UNC being such a big powerhouse, its hard to take him away.

Every year, on my birthday (December 7), and in March, I ALWAYS, without fail, had bad hits all throughout high school. I got my first military detention (I went to military high school) because I got caught filling out an NCAA bracket, and they called it betting in school. That's bullshit :lol

Skip Prosser. What a horrible thing for those guys at Wake Forest. I know a few guys that saw him and spoke with him at an AAU Tournament in Orlando the day before he died. I never got the chance to meet Coach Prosser or to see him coach, not being from Cincinnati, but from all that I've heard, he's an outstanding character....

well, nobody wanted to play for Mike Davis during his time at IU (and actually Knight's last few years either).....hence why Eric Gordon verbally commited to Illinois at first. I'm not so sure Zeller wouldn't have come to IU if not for all the off court crap with Sampson. Just a lot of uncertainty there....I think once all this passes, and HOPEFULLY Sampson will get his shit together, more of the in-state talent will come to IU.

I think you're right on the money. Mike Davis was a sacrificial lamb, even with the national title game appearance. He just wasn't going to make it. And personally, I just don't think Sampson was the right hire for that job. I don't know who it is, but it's not Sampson, not at IU....

I think he's a fantastic coach, i love his coaching philosophy (gritty defense and rebounding) and he is great with the players....but obviously there are other concerns.with him. If the NCAA doesn't come down hard on the program, I think all this will crap will blow over and he'll be on the sideline for a long time (assuming he keeps his nose clean :shrug)

Yall heard it here..... kentucky is going to be the most intense team to play against. When they get all the pieces in place, the defensive intensity is going to be unmatched in college basketball, and that alone will consistently win them 20+ games.

That's pretty solid, I'll admit. Almost as good as having the frontrunner for NPOY, an All-American caliber PG, PF who lead the U19 team in rebounds and blocks (was third in points and could easily be better than Pat-squared) this summer, two top 20 recruits for next year (and a PG who was top 40 before injuries last year), leans from 2 top 10 guys in '09 and a top 10 commit in '10.

Season Yrs. Won Lost Tied Pct.
1. Kentucky.......................................190 3 101 1,876 577 1 .765
2. North Carolina................................1911 94 1,827 677 0 .730
3. Kansas .........................................1899 106 1,825 762 0 .705
4. Duke............................................19 06 99 1,737 781 0 .690
5. St. John's (N.Y.).............................1908 97 1,668 784 0 .680
6. Syracuse.......................................190 1 103 1,630 752 0 .684

10. Notre Dame.................................1898 99 1,548 851 1 .645
Say UNC averages 35 games a year, with Roy continuing his 80% winning percentage. That's 28 wins a year.
If UK averages 23 a year and UNC averages 28 a year for 10 years, UNC grabs the top spot. Maybe a stretch. We'll see how good UK becomes over the next few years.

EDIT: Damnit, I tried to format it correctly across the top. Oh well, that looks dumb.
Ehh... I just don't see UK winning only 23 games a year on average seeing as play about 35 as well... I mean last year was a down year for us and we still won either 22 or 23. Time will tell, I suppose.

Boo on me, I missed all the bickering.
I think it was last season that I was talking with someone about what would have to happen for UNC to overtake UK in overall wins. I think it was something like UNC winning 5 more games a year for 10 years or something like that. Might be a little tougher now that Tubby is gone, but I expect Roy to pass UK before his time is up.
At least you didn't go to bed Wilson. Better than I :lol
So basically it's who has more wins, who's going to have more wins, how everybody hates Tubby Smith, and apparently I was unfairly indicted of some things I do for Justin. That's shady. I just want my boy to get into college, that's all. Damn you people are rough.....
In other news, any news about a point scoring system? Or was it just bickering between UNC and UK all night?

Oh, and I didn't realize KU was only 2 wins behind UNC. ;) KU has been better to UNC than any sort of recruiting pipeline could ever be.

they're not.... (unless this is wrong)
As of the beginning of the 2007-2008 season, Kentucky is the all-time winningest team in Division I Men's Basketball with 1,948 victories. The top 5 programs are:
1 - Kentucky - 1,948
2 - North Carolina - 1,914
3 - Kansas - 1,906
4 - Duke - 1,818
5 - St. John's - 1,705

San Antonio is correct. I don't know if Hansbrough was a Kansas lean before Roy went to UNC, but I am 99.9% sure he never committed to the Jayhawks. I'm guessing Dustin said that because Tyler is from Missouri, which you can almost consider in-state recruiting for Kansas, because who wants to play for Missouri.

Tyler was more of a Kentucky lean than he was for Kansas.

I had no idea and was just throwing the possibility out there. I cannot imagine him playing anywhere else though.
Did you see Kendall's blog they have on IC? Should be interesting over the next couple years.

I just read it a few minutes ago.
He seems like a great person as well as player.
And I already loved Marcus Ginyard, but after reading that blog, I love him even more. He is an awesome human being. :thumbsup

Marcus is the man. Such a great person. Give me a guy like him over Tyreke Evans any day of the week. Here's a great article on him.

Man, I would be a great fit for Roy Williams at UNC, due to the type of character he is
