Yeah Wilson, Charlotte was supposed to be a HUGE pickup for the Atlantic 10 after the major conference shifting took them from CUSA. But it just never happened. They were supposed to be awesome in 2006 with Curtis Withers, their first in the A-10; but their nonconference was dreadful that year, and it just continued downhill. But you're right, the year before the switch, they were ranked at one point, and a NCAA team. Go figure.....

:lol :thumbsup Well done Bryan. Way to state the obvious. And how ugly are these UConn jerseys? Man they are disturbing....

If Beasley wouldn't have de-committed from Charlotte he would have absolutely run over the A-10 this year.

I'm actually a fan of Price. The guy overcame a brain hemorrhage. That's amazing. That, and I absolutely loved watching Marcus Williams in college too.

Huskies are looking fantastic. For a #3 v. unranked game, I don't really see a clear winner.

I could definitely go either way, but Dorsey's foul trouble is huge and could turn out to be the difference.

I don't care what he did off the court (well I do, but for the purpose of this post, I don't), on the court, he was an animal. SO good. Shocking in so many ways how they lost in the Elite Eight....

Again with the inconsistency from Memphis AND Connecticut. Although it seems obvious Memphis' potential is 1000 miles ahead of UConn's. Very pesky, very athletic, very unselfish. I just wish they could hit more shots.

So much fuss was made about North Carolina being a team full of talented individuals and not a great team in '05, but that was exactly the case the next year with UConn and it was hardly mentioned. Oh, and that fuss in '05 was a bunch of garbage.

Justin, I can't believe you just said you liked watching Reddick. Ouch :violent :hug

And speaking of a team similar to the 06 UConn team, how about that 99 Duke team that didn't win it all? Wow that team was fantastic. And yeah, I'm the douchebag that said Elton Brand couldn't make it in the NBA :rolleyes :BANG

This Memphis/UConn game is great. Once again, Memphis looked absolutely fantastic during stretches and average during others. Derrick Rose is getting all the pub, but if Dorsey is the key to their success. Price has looked great. I bet he's excited to go check his stats on a brand new laptop after the game.

ZING!

Well done Bryan.

That was a very entertaining game to watch. CDR is sick. G'night guys.

Although Michael Beasly is nasty! We haven't been a premier school, so the chance to play good teams are few and far between. Last year was-

Lehigh
Cal State Northridge
Portland State
UC Irvine
Rice
Georgetown
Nebraska
Bethune-Cookman
Eastern Washington
Idaho State
Mercer
Portland

Georgetown was #18 when we beat them. But other than that, cakewalk. This year-

Pepperdine
Pacific
Western Michigan
Portland
Saint Mary's
San Fransisco
Kansas State
Utah
Sacremento State
Nebraska
Oakland

Good squad, they play my preferred method. They RUN! They shoot a lot of threes. They spread the floor; they didn't run a whole lot of halfcourt sets until late in the game when they had a lead and were runnin the shot clock down a bit. They do make mistakes and play sloppy at times, but that's expected of a team that plays the way they do. Stanford went up 7 at one point early in the 2nd half, and could have pulled away. But Siena fought back, and their biggest lead was 14 toward the end of the game. Siena did the same against Syracuse the other night; they are able to withstand a run, and come back from it. You can look for some good things from them. St. Joseph's will be in Albany to play Siena a few days after Christmas. That should be a good test for them. And they play at Memphis, and ESPNU game. I suggest you at least take a look at them, might pay off in March ;)

They played a great game, but Arizona's youth was all over that last play. 3 bad plays based on impulse. The low percentage layup, the much too quick putback, and the panicked 3 point attempt that happened to be 3 feet inside the 3 point arc.

A guy that posts on Tigerboard just got this in a Youtube PM.

Your chance to help a guy out

Dear dbooker34,

My name is Thomas Akers and I'm from Boston. I'm an agent for players that are furthering their basketball days in European Leagues. I've been in this business for more than 20 years and have gotten to represent some great players. One of my clients is a player that you have a video of in your list of videos. His name is Christian Moody and your video shows him missing free throws against the Missouri Tigers. I made this screen name today to ask you a favor that would really help Christian in his future. Many team owners and coaches look up players on the internet and this video obviously is a deterent to what coaches see in Christian. Can you please remove this video, even if only for a period of five months, while we try to place Christian in another European Program. I thank you for your time and concideration. Also I will be sending a similar message to one other similar video on youtube. Please reply to this message when you have read it.

Thomas Akers

Here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bx0klol9ahw) is the link to the video. IF this is legit, I feel slightly sorry for the guy, but the "agent" claims he has been in the business for 20 years yet a google search for Thomas Akers returns nothing. I just thought it was funny this is the way the agent decided to approach it.

On a side note gotta love the "I took my headset off and I can't remember ever being in a louder building", haven't heard those kind of remarks very often in Mizzou Arena's tenure.:lol

So we learned that Siena and Iona are big time rivals tonight, no? The commentators said something about it. I'll take Siena this year.

In the past, they have been big rivals. Members of the MAAC. Iona is located in New Rochelle, NY, which is about 500 feet from the New York City border. Siena is generally a good ballclub, and Iona was always a very good team in the conference, until recently. Actually, several years ago, if my mind is serving me correct, Iona played Syracuse very tough in a 1st round NCAA game. What I'm failing to see exactly is how a win against a BAD Iona team is getting you psyched to play U of L :rolleyes

PS-Question. When Siena upset Stanford on Saturday afternoon, the student rushed the court. What do you think? Acceptable? Not? What's the word?

thestand
11-19-2007, 09:03 AM
A MAAC team rushing the court when they upset a ranked PAC10 team? Sure, it's acceptable. We (Oregon) rushed the court when we beat #1 UCLA, a team we play twice a year every year, and we were ranked at the time. :lol

thestand
11-19-2007, 09:10 AM
I should condition that answer by pointing out that we're on the field for nearly every football game win, and most PAC-10 basketball wins. Yeah, we're "that" school.

seekupig
11-19-2007, 09:17 AM
it seems it's time to repost this article by Pat Forde on ESPN a few years back about appropriate "court rushing." :lol

After watching all these giddy group gropes, it's high time to publish the Forde Minutes Court-Storming Protocol Guide. Students are advised to read the following rules and to act accordingly the next time their team agitates them to the edge of hoops ecstasy:
• The Old Money Principle (2): Look up at the ceiling of your gym and count the banners. If your school has won three or more national titles in its history, you shall not rush the floor at any time. Schools affected: UCLA (11 titles), Kentucky (seven), Indiana (five), North Carolina (four), Duke (three).
Your program has won big games before. Act like it.
The Old Money Principle clearly puts the Indiana student body in violation of The Forde Minutes' protocol. Especially when the vanquished team, Illinois, owns zero national titles of its own. How terribly tacky.
The Illini did not even qualify for a Minutes Protocol Exception (3), which states that if your august basketball program has hit the skids to a dispiriting degree (Indiana has missed the last two NCAA Tournaments), a storming is allowable under certain conditions:
Condition A (4): The opponent is ranked No. 1 and/or undefeated at least halfway through the season (14 or more games). Illinois was merely ranked fifth in the ESPN/USA Today coaches' poll and already had a loss on the season.
Condition B (5): Your august program defeats a top-five team on a suitably miraculous shot (25 feet or farther) at the buzzer, spurring spontaneous joy that overrides better impulses. (The Indiana-Illinois game went down to the wire, but it wasn't won at the buzzer on a prayer.)
Condition C (6): You are so intoxicated that you cannot remember the opponent's ranking, or how many titles your school has won. But be forewarned that The Minutes will not pay your bail if you're the lone trespasser on the court and wind up in cuffs.
Condition D (7): You see college hoops fan Ashley Judd (8) sitting at the other end of the court, and you know that the shortest distance to her is a straight line.
• The Upper-Middle Class Principle (8): If your school has won multiple national titles, you are generally discouraged from storming the court unless you have defeated one of the above blue bloods, and only at the last second. Schools affected: Kansas, Louisville, Oklahoma State, Cincinnati, San Francisco, Michigan State, Connecticut, North Carolina State.
However, stormings are allowable under the following conditions:
Ancient History Exception (9): If your national titles predate Texas Western's, you are free to storm the court for any dramatic win over a top-five team. Schools affected: Oklahoma State, San Francisco, Cincinnati.
Semi-Ancient History Exception (10): If your national titles predate the 3-point shot, you are free to storm the court for any dramatic win over a No. 1-ranked team. Schools affected: Louisville and North Carolina State; Kansas and Michigan State halfway (one title before the three, one after).
Current power Connecticut (two titles in the last seven years) is discouraged from rushing the court under any but the most extraordinary circumstances, such as beating the No. 1 team on an eyes-closed, left-handed hook shot from half court.
• The Middle Class Principle (11): If your program plays in a major conference, has some basketball heritage and takes itself fairly seriously, court stormings should be reserved for: upsetting a top five team; knocking off an unbeaten league rival of particular dislike; ending a period of extreme and elongated futility against an arch rival; clinching a conference championship.
Under this principle, Iowa is hereby indicted for its floor rush Tuesday night after beating No. 11 Indiana. (In fact, it's flatly inexcusable on any level, other than the boredom that January in Iowa City can precipitate.) Michigan is granted clemency under the elongated-futility-against-an-arch-rival clause. Georgetown, St. John's and Tennessee were all cleared for liftoff last Saturday.
(Although The Minutes fully understands the Rocky Top rush, the SEC did not. It fined the Volunteers $5,000 for failing to keep the students off the floor, a violation of the league's sportsmanship policy. The Minutes fails to see the clear and present danger. This isn't football, where the fans mount heavy metal objects and send them crashing down upon the mob below. First time they tear down a basket stanchion, a fine will be in order. Not until then.)
• The Lower Class Principle (12): If your team plays in a mid-major or low-major league and manages to coax (or trick) a BCS-conference school into visiting and you win the game, a storming is allowed. Exceptions: Memphis, Gonzaga or any other school whose program is demonstrably larger than its conference profile. Also: beating a certifiably horrible BCS-conference school (Baylor, Arizona State, Purdue, South Florida or anyone with an RPI worse than 150) is not worth the effort.
The Bottom Feeder Principle (13): If you're North Dakota State, still on the D-I taxi squad, and you shock Wisconsin? Go crazy. Even if it's a road game. Break into the home gym and storm that sucker.
• The Morehead State Principle (14): The Eagles are 0-15 against NCAA competition. Any 8-0 run is justifiable incentive to rush the floor.

:lol :thumbsup I've been looking all over for that story. Good get Dustin.

Under these rules, the court-rushing vs. Standford over the weekend was in fact sanctioned, via the Lower Class Principle. If a low-major is able to coax a BCS team to your home court, and you win, go nuts. But, as the story says, a Ariz. St. or Purdue or Baylor, etc., is not worthy.

I would like to add that I was in a court-rush once. The Atlantic 10 Tournament was in Cincinnati in 2006. We finished the season only 8-8 in the A-10 (17-10 overall), and were a #10-seed in the A-10 Tourney. If you all remember, that was the year GW was 16-0 in the A-10; but Temple did the whole conference a favor and beat them in the Quarters, opening up a second bid. Well we beat St. Joe's 62-61, winning our 4th game in 4 days (for the 2nd time in 3 years), to take the tourney. That was followed by a massive court-rush. Good times.

If I haven't said it before, let me say it now. I LOVE College Basketball season, and I'm so glad it's here!

I'm double-posting, for the simple fact that I want a brand new post :lol Figure I'll give out a little recent Xavier history; not that anyone asked for it, but I don't care. Read it anyway :lol

In 2004, you all know Xavier went to the Elite Eight, and if not for a few phantom fouls against the dominant player in the game, Xavier Forward Anthony Myles, we would have been in the Final Four. I digress.

What people don't know is that we started that season 10-9. In that stretch, we lost to teams like Ball State, an Indiana team that finished 14-15, an Iowa State team that finished 16-12, Duquesne, and a George Washington team that did not make a postseason tournament. That run was capped off by a 3-game losing streak, where we lost to Richmond, GW, and Dayton. The next game was the Crosstown Shootout, as it's known in Cincinnati, against a Bearcats team that was ranked 10th in the country, at home. Well we won that game, the difference-maker coming with a 17-footer by Lionel Chalmers, and we won the game 73-71. That started a string where we won 16 of our final 18 games. Finishing 10-6 in the conference, we had to play 4 games again, the conference tournament 50 minutes to the north in Dayton, Ohio. Well we banged up on St. Bonaventure by 26 in the first round game, setting up a date with #1 St. Joseph's the next night. Well we absolutely obliterated them, at one point leading 74-37. The next night, we played Dayton, in their home gym. They say that it was a fantastic win, to beat Dayton on their home floor to win the conference tournament. And again, we rushed the floor on their court.

During that 16-2 run, we beat 10th ranked Cincinnati, an NCAA-tournament bound Richmond team, A-10 regular season champ Dayton twice, a #1 St. Joseph's team, a Rick Pitino-led Louisville team, 8th-ranked (and second-seeded) Mississippi State, and 12th-ranked (and 3rd-seeded) Texas, before falling to #6 (and #1 seed in the South Region) Duke. Xavier put Lionel Chalmers as the A-10 Tournament MVP, with Romain Sato and Anthony Myles joining him on the All-Tournament team. All three were on the All-Sub regional team after the First/Second Round games in Orlando, Florida. And all three were on the All-Regional Team after the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 games in Atlanta, Georgia. As the story goes, some students made the trip to Orlando. When X made the Sweet 16, most of campus had emptied out to make the 6 and a half-hour drive to Atlanta. And by the time the date with Duke was made final, campus completely emptied out, everybody jumped in their cars, and drove to Atlanta for a chance to see Xavier advance to the Final Four.

In that Elite 8 game, the pregame stat sheet came to our radio announcers, it read Duke Blue Devils, and the Xavier Mountaineers :rolleyes

We led most of the game, by as many as 9 points in the second half, before giving it up with 3 minutes to go. JJ Redick hit two daggers on defensive breakdowns from long distance late, and they couldn't be overcome. As I said, Xavier Forward Anthony Myles was the game's best player, scoring 16 points in just 23 minutes. He took his fourth foul on a phantom call with 12 minutes to go, and his fifth foul just 6 seconds later on another questionable call, battling Shelden Williams.

Although we lost the game, it was great to be there, and as I said after we lost to Ohio State last season, we believe we are not far from the Final Four. It'll happen, and soon.

I know this is like the 200th time I've posted something like this, but oh well. In case you haven't figured it out yet, I like to rant :lol

UNC should never rush the court. Unless it involves a national championship. We've done too much for court rushing to happen. The only instance I can think of would be a down year for UNC versus a #1 ranked dook team (what are the chances of those two things ever happening again?) If UNC mounted a furious comeback in the last 5 minutes after being down by 15, 20 and then won it on a last-second shot, I could see rushing the court. But it would have to be DRAMATIC.

Just speculation. I have no idea really, just trying to use experience to create a theory. I think we might have rushed if we had beat dook in '06 at home, with the freshmen versus JJ and Shelden, #1 ranked. That place was ready.

Yes, the 2003 team had Senior National Player of the Year, Juniors Sato and Chalmers. They won a school record 16 games in a row, earning a 3-seed in the NCAAs. Unfortunately, we got stuck in the same sub-regional with defending national champ Maryland, and we never gave ourselves a chance in that 2nd round game. And yes, Sato was a defensive stud :thumbsup

And I feel compelled, as our resident A-10 boy, to point out that the Atlantic 10 produced two straight National Players of the Year; the first being West in 2003, and then Jameer Nelson of St. Joe's in 2004. And now they are both NBA studs ;)

Sorry John, just can't get into it, because it leads to a dead end. In the NFL, we're playing toward the playoffs. In college football, we're waiting to see who's gonna get screwed. I really think if Oregon hadn't lost last weekend and won out with LSU, an undefeated Kansas team would not have been in the BCS Championship. But John, I'm also not a college football junkie, so take my opinion with a grain of salt, because I'm really not much of a know-it-all on the subject....

There are no indications that UNC is going to get involved with him.

Tyreke's past is haunting him when it comes to UNC, he seems to be a bit troubled, and we all know Roy stays away from guys like that.

For example, Andray Blatche, Vernon Macklin, Chris Paul etc.... all who professed a love for UNC and wanted to go there.

Same way with Tyreke, I just don't see UNC getting involved.

I'd go nuts if UNC got Hopson. That's what I thought about Tyreke. I've read about his relationship with Worldwide Wes and how his brothers are handing the recruiting process. From what I'm aware of UNC would have been a lock had they offered some time ago, but Roy didn't want him.

Well, to get things back to a more positive note, the game was great tonight at the Dean Dome. The first half went especially well as SC State had no answer for the talent on the floor. Two alleys: Ty to Tyler and couple monster jams by Danny Green. Played pretty good defense and Alex Stepheson showed off some offensive skills to go with his already beastly rebounding.

Tyler drew a foul almost every time he touched the ball, leading to 26 points. There were multiple times he could have gone up for an easy layup or dunk, and instead waited over a second for somebody to foul him during the shot. Dude is absolutely insane.

Looking forward to the Vegas games.

I LOVE watching a talented team like UNC play. You should be able to say the same about Duke becuase they play like a much DEEPER and a much more TALENTED team than last year... But you are REALLY making yourself look like an idiot talking about a coach that is representing your country and is currently juggling between two programs. K is bringing the USA B-Ball team back to where it should be... As in not losing to teams like Garbagewecanbarelyplaybasketballistan.

Smooth, it was a very unsettling first 6 or 7 minutes of the second half for me. IU came out denying Lavender any touches; I don't know who it was in deny on him, but he did a fantastic job, forcing the other 4 guys into handling the ball. Not sure why they didn't stick with it. I think the dagger for IU was the And 1 Josh Duncan got on that layup.

That's really funny about Vitale. I guess he didn't know anyone on the flight :lol

Here's an interesting number. We know in 2004 (Xavier's Elite Eight season) that they beat #1 St. Joe's in the A-10 Tourney, a #8 Mississippi St. team in the NCAAs, and also #12 Texas in the Sweet 16. But the win yesterday against #8 Indiana was the first regular season win over a Top 10 team not named Cincinnati since the 1988-89 season, when Xavier upset #4 Louisville. Of course, Xavier beat two #1-ranked Cincinnati teams in the regular season, in 1996-97, and again in 1999-2000. Xavier also beat #10 Cincinnati in the 2003-2004 season.

Now here's where it gets dicey. We have 4 straight games at home coming up, but here's who it is. Oakland, who lost to #11 Michigan St. last night by a mere 4 points (and if I remember right, I think they were an NCAA team last year). After that is Belmont, and we're all aware of the pesky Atlantic Sun conference this season. Then it's Creighton, who we've lost to 3 years in a row, and is always a tough squad, always in the NCAAs. And then the Crosstown Shootout, against Cincinnati.

As I mentioned above, both Xavier teams to beat the #1 Cincy teams were unranked. On the other side of the token, Cincinnati has beaten far superior Xavier teams. In David West's Junior season of 2001-2002, they beat us by 20 points, when we were the superior team. And the disgusting game of last season, when Cincinnati was horrible, and they beat us by 10. What I'm trying to say is when it's Xavier vs. Cincinnati, you throw the records out. It's for city bragging rights. I'm not kidding, the city of Cincinnati basically shuts down the week of the Crosstown Shootout. I believe this is the closest proximity rivalry in college basketball, the two schools a mere 3.4 miles from each other.

So those 4 games I mentioned will not be cakewalks. And don't forget, after those 4, we still play @ Arizona St., Tennessee, Kansas St., Virginia, and @ Auburn. And then of course the grind of the conference season.

So the win yesterday is nice, but there's so much more out there for us to accomplish. So we have to get our nose back to the grindstone, and get ready for Oakland on Wednesday :thumbsup

They shot their fair share of 3s all game. The bald guy Tavernari couldn't miss for a while. In the second half they got the ball to Plaisted and he abused Deon Thompson. Thankfully Roy put Stephenson in on him and he cooled off, but he was still a force.

The Arizona big guys (Breilmaier, Walters, Horne) were a pain to watch. Don't recall them making a good play, just getting called for the same foul over and over. They couldn't adjust defensively, and were offensively invisible. Bayless made some amazing plays, but you could argue he lost the game for Arizona. Just too many awful decisions, unforced turnovers, bad shots, etc.

In short, it's called being a freshman.

No matter how polished they are, they will still make mistakes. :thumbsup

If Les Miles is coaching, I like Nova's chances.

Good stuff. The more wins Miami gets, it makes the loss @ Miami hurt less.

Oh yes. I hate the SEC. Not just one team. I hate the whole conference :violent :violent

I have to get down to Auburn for a football game sometime.

They are my favorite SEC team, I always pull for them. Unless they are playing UNC which is rare.
