Where Notre Dame is certainly not a threat to anyone in March, it should be a good matchup for the Eagles to see what theyre made of tonight. UNC was ranked #1 for a good part of that season with Rasheed Wallace, Jerry Stackhouse, Jeff McGinnis, etc....

Duke had their worst season that most of us can remember. 13-18 overall, 2-14 in the ACC.....

yet the final score was 102-100 in double OT!! Jeff Capel hit a runner from half-court to send it into the second OT, Dick Vitale climaxed live on ESPN...uh...that's probably enough details on the game.

I suggest anyone who hasn't seen this game yet to watch it tomorrow if you can. One of the best games i remember watching, right behind Kentucky/Duke in '92.

Honestly, Duke deserved the game tonight. They did everything they had to do to win the game and Carolina did everything they could to lose it. Duke, especially Ewing, hit many clutch shots down the stretch and made their free throws all game. Meanwhile Carolina, especially Felton, was turning the ball over all night. McCants couldn't buy a bucket. Marvin, an 80 plus percent FT shooter missed three in a row in the first half. I thought Sheldon would be what kept Duke in the game with anything, but May actually did get the best of that matchup. He was the one Tar Heel who came to play. That last posession was terrible. UNC played absoultely terrible tonight, but what I like is that even though they were struggling that much they refused to quit and made it a game down to the final .8 seconds (the rest were never played).

I didn't view the game as a big upset. Carolina was ranked higher and has more talent (still hold true to that), but when Duke is a top 10 team there is no such thing as an upset in Cameron. Coach K had his team prepared tonight, they came out and executed, and the Heels played poorly. I suppose our definitions of Tar Heel loyalty are different. It's not about bias to me, it's about faith in the biggest rivalry in all of sports. I just couldn't bet on Duke in any UNC/Duke game. It goes beyond winning or losing $20.

road ACC wins are hard to come by. you have to play 2 times better than you normally do. i'm really interested to see what happens sunday with UConn. anderson is still in the hospital, and hopefully he plays. The local papers are saying that he will be taking intravenous antibiotics in the Hospital until at least Friday and seems doubtful for Sunday. Even with Rashad it was going to be very tough to get the "W" and without his outside shooting it could be a long game.

New Police Documents Released In Case

DES MOINES, Iowa -- A former Hawkeyes star basketball player appeared in court Wednesday afternoon and was arraigned on six charges.

Pierre Pierce, a former leading scorer for the Hawkeyes, turned himself in to West Des Moines police Wednesday morning.

Pierce was charged with first-degree burglary, assault with intent to commit sexual abuse, two domestic abuse charges including one with a weapon, false imprisonment and fourth-degree criminal mischief. The charges add up to more than 29 years of jail time.

Pierce was dismissed from the Hawkeyes team Feb. 2.

Pierce submitted a request earlier this week to meet with Hawkeyes head coach Steve Alford to start an appeals process in an effort to reclaim his spot on the team, The Daily Iowan reported Wednesday.

The police investigation stems from a complaint at the West Des Moines condo of a woman whom Pierce had been dating for 2½ years.

Newly released police documents state that Pierce choked the woman and left bruises on her neck, and threatened her with a kitchen knife.

The police documents also state that Pierce removed the woman's clothing and fondled her.

The judge set bond at $32,500. Pierce was released Wednesday afternoon from jail as part of a pretrial release program, which means he did not have to post bond. He is slated to return to court on Feb. 21.

In 2002, Pierce faced a felony charge of third-degree sexual abuse of a female student-athlete at the University of Iowa. He later pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of assault causing serious injury -- a misdemeanor.

Pierce agreed to perform 200 hours of community service, and to sit out the 2002-2003 basketball season.

I agree that the Devils won't lose twice in one season to the same team. However I don't think it will be a very close game. It's not going to be a blowout, but after the UNC game they're probably going to be pretty hyped up for a team they lost to. And, I hope that WF has payed attention this season. They're going to have their hands full playing at FSU.

That was a great game. When Downey did the throat-slash the announcers didn't make a big deal out of it, even though he missed a chance to win the game after doing it. A couple of weeks later McCants did it at NC State and they acted like he was the second coming of satan.

DES MOINES, Iowa -- The attorney for Pierre Pierce filed a motion Friday seeking the dismissal of a burglary charge against the former Iowa basketball player.

Pierce, 21, was arraigned this week on charges of burglary, domestic abuse assault, assault with intent to commit sexual abuse, false imprisonment and criminal mischief.

The charges stem from a Jan. 27 incident at a woman's home in West Des Moines. Pierce has said the woman was his girlfriend.

The most serious charge is first-degree burglary, a felony that carries a maximum penalty of up to 25 years upon conviction.

Pierce's attorney, Alfredo Parrish, filed a motion Friday seeking dismissal of the charge, arguing that it lacks aggravating circumstances required under Iowa law.

Pierce spent about three hours in jail after his court appearance Thursday, but was released on his own recognizance.

He was dismissed from the basketball team last week, but he remains on scholarship and his attorney said he was attending classes.

I think some of the close games with the team down (as much as 8 points) on the road in the second half are just as good as a loss for them. I'll take the close games and wins before I take a couple in the L column. I guess your of the opinion that getting swept by unranked Maryland is pick-me-up for Duke??

i agree that you don't have to lose to win it all, but i think it makes it easier. being undefeated going into the tournament puts added pressure on a team. while everyone else is just trying to win six games in a row to cut down the nets, you are trying to achieve the impossible. i just think if you take away the pressure of running the table, it makes it easier for your team to sit back and play one game at a time, knowing that their goal isn't greater than the team they're playing. not saying they can't do it, but they'll have more pressure on their team than anyone else. just my 2 cents........

as far as the officiating goes, it was terrible on both sides. as in any other game, you never hear the winning team crying about it afterwards. that's just the nature of sports. winners celebrate, losere make excuses or whine.
