And I really like Clemson. I'm thinking if the bracket permits, they have Sweet 16 run written all over them.

if zona doesn't get in, i hope they schedule a bullshit, cupcake non-con schedule next year and beat the shit out of every team they play during it.

Anyone who thinks Arizona shouldn't get in isn't looking at the facts.

More top 50 and 100 wins than any other bubble team. 19 wins in the toughest conference with the toughest schedule in the country.

Obviously this isn't their best year, and they have had some weak performances in the past couple of tournaments, but based on their body of work they must be included. There are not 34 more deserving teams.

i think the kansas/a&m game is blacked out in my area. in central illinois. i'm getting espnews on the deuce right now. interesting.

Wanted to get both the Arizona guys in. As for scheduling a horrible non-conference schedule, that won't happen.

The 2005-2006 George Washington Colonials. Granted, the A-10 that year was MUCH worse than the PAC-10 will be in any year. GW had an RPI of 37 that season. But their SOS was 207, and their nonconference SOS? A whopping 323! They went 16-0 in the A-10 that season. They went 10-1 in their nonconference, the best win there being against #49 Maryland, and their only loss to #51 NC State. Their next best win in the nonconference? #209 Boston University! They lost in the A-10 Quarters to Temple, going into the NCAAs at 26-2. Their seed? An 8-seed, and they absolutely deserved that seed. That's why that would never happen, that GW team teaches that lesson.

In terms of the plethora of Top 100 games, you sure can't dispute that. I will say that Arizona State and Oregon, also bubble teams, should be ahead of the Cats in pecking order, even if their RPIs a bit higher (and in the case of ASU, much higher).

As for past performance, that shouldn't have any bearing on this season, it'd be horrible of the committee to do that. But the last 12 4-8, with two against Oregon State?

It's too bad, to me, but they are going to get in. As for bubble teams that are truly playing themselves into the tourney? St. Joe's for one. Kent St. for another. Virginia Tech maybe (but I don't think it's enough)? A&M is now locked.

It really sucks that teams are going to back their way into the NCAAs. I'm not saying a team like Arizona or a team like Kentucky aren't good teams. But what I'm saying is when they had to win games to lock them up, they did not. Consider this Exhibit A for a douchebag like Boheim that wants expansion....

Oregon possibly ahead of Arizona, but I don't think there is any way that ASU is in line ahead of Arizona. Sure they beat them twice, but based on their body of work, no way. SOS and RPI are awful. And to be honest...I just hate them. But seriously...they played a cupcake non conference schedule. Not counting Xavier.

Temple completes everybody's worst nightmare. A 3-team WCC and a 3-team A-10. Of course it's not a given anywhere, especially for St. Joe's in the Atlantic 10. But I just have to think that they have played themselves in, which has to be taken very seriously with how everybody else has clearly not done so. With the bloodbath that took place during conference play where teams struggled to get above .500 after coming off a fantastic nonconference season, 3 bids is definitely good for the conference.

Georgia out quick 10-2 after the first media timeout? Hm....

Looking over the RPI rankings. From what I can see, the top RPIs coming in from "bubble teams":

32. Miami (FL)
33. Dayton
35. Illinois St.
37. South Alabama
38. St. Mary's
42. St. Joseph's
44. UMass
46. Ohio St.
47. Ole Miss
48. Creighton (OUT)
49. Kentucky
50. Kansas St.

So by simple math, that's the Top 50. RPIs #s 1-31 are in one way or another. If you subtract the 12 teams I listed, those are 6 more spots filled, bringing the list to 37 out of 65 teams are definitely in out of the Top 50. Now if I counted right, 10 of those 37 are conference champs, which brings that number to 27 "lock" at-large teams within the Top 50. Now add one at-large bid back in play for the ACC championship and Big 12 Championship, since both teams in each championship are in the Top 50, so the number goes to 25 "lock" at-large teams. The SEC Championship (if Georgia advances tonight) and the Big Ten Championship (if Illinois wins) could still technically involve a team outside the Top 50. So by my calculations, there will be 8 at-large teams made up of the teams I listed above (minus Creighton) plus the rest of the teams above 50.

Now imagine Miami (FL), St. Joe's, and Kansas St. are next off the list, bringing that number to 5. I bolded them for my benefit so I know how my counting is, since I'm talking this out as I'm writing. If you want to assume teams in the Top 50 win those other 2 tournaments tomorrow (B10 and SEC), then it's 7 at-larges left, for the teams not bolded plus teams over 100 (if Georgia miraculously won, the number is 6, but we're gonna call it 7). And yes, even though I have been a little pessimistic of Arizona and West Virginia, were included in my at-large pool.

So who are the 7? Let's say St. Mary's is safe, so now it's 6. I italicized them. After that I'm showing:

51. Villanova
53. VA Tech
54. Syracuse
55. VCU
58. Oregon
73. Florida
83. Arizona St.

So those are the Top 100 that are in it. 14 teams for 6 spots. Now I think Dayton, UMass, Ole Miss, VA Tech, Syracuse, and Florida are OUT, they are in red. So now I'm down to 8 teams for 6 spots.

So. Who are the 2 left out?

2007: #65, 18-12 Stanford
2006: #58, 18-11 Seton Hall
2005: #65, 19-13 NC State

Results:

2007: #11 Stanford loses to #6 Louisville 78-58
2006: #10 Seton Hall loses to #7 Wichita St. 86-66
2005: #10 NC State wins vs. #7 UNC-Charlotte and #2 UConn before losing to #6 Wisconsin 65-56

The SEC did no one but J-Rod any favors, but it and the Big 10 give us possible stolen bids in championship games tomorrow, and frankly the excitement around that is what it's all about :thumbsup

Royce couldn't hold his lead as Texas and Clemson came up with wins against him, eliminating his ACC champ and since he was blanked in the Pac-10 as well, this allowed Bob who called the Big XII and Pac-10 finals to take over first.

The best Bob can do is 118.5 if Kansas/UNC each pull off wins.

The best Smooth can do is 123.5 if Kansas/UNC/Wisconsin each pull off wins.

The best Nick can do is a 120 if Texas/UNC/Wisconsin each pull off wins. Basically a Texas win puts him in first since he's stealing the 8 points from the Kansas people.

Jrod can get a 129 if Kansas/UNC/Wisconsin/Arkansas each pull off wins. If Kansas loses and his three other teams win, he gets put into a tie with Nick and we'll figure it out from there. But if Arkansas loses, it's pretty much lights out for him.

At this point everyone below 4th place is eliminated :(

IMO the winner definitely deserves a #1 seed.

i agree, but if this is anything like years past, they'll have the seeding done before that game ends. the only thing i could see changing last second would be if Illinois wins the Big 10.... that they HAVE to change.

as far as KU and Texas go, i'm predicting Kansas #1 in the Midwest and Texas #2 in the South.... this keeps them both happy reguardless of the outcome. Texas as a #2 in the South Region would put them in Houston for the second weekend which is actually a bigger advantage for them than being a #1 in the Midwest Region. i'd be suprised if it went any differently than that no matter who wins the game.....

Happy Selection Sunday all :thumbsup

I see you Jon. I woulda gone up, but it was Saturday of Championship Week, probably the best single day of the entire calendar year. And today is Selection Sunday, and it is devoted to college hoop. OK, most of my days are devoted to college hoop :rolleyes But great hoop up there for sure, I was shocked when I got a phone call from Glens Falls yesterday saying Maginn beat Mount Vernon, I never would've expected that.

My Nebraska boy, I did forget you roll with the NIT Challenge, my fault :thumbsup

Hey Clay, I'm so confused. Where the hell do I go to get into your pool?

Here's to Selection Sunday. Think 3. 3 Atlantic 10 teams dancing, and a 3-seed for Xavier. I think the chances are pretty good for the latter. A bunch of teams from Notre Dame to Marquette to Louisville to Purdue all got beat, so we should be OK.

:lol Right before 5:00, the guy to Knight's left (screen right) was talking, but Bob was still in the frame. He was liberally scratching himself, and adjusting his oversized collar for a solid 15 seconds.

what a bunch of shit. Then team 129 will be all up in arms, only difference is it'll be Quinnipiac instead of VaTech. Who cares? Win some f'ing games and earn your spot.

I'm against any sort of expansion, but if hypothetically they HAD to expand, I'd be cool with a 96 team tournament. The top 32 have byes, and there's a one round, 64 team play-in round. But again, that's only if they had to expand.

poor Xavier

I don't see it that way. I think it's interesting that as a 3-seed, X plays Georgia, a team that's used to playing the kind of team they'll play in Xavier every night. Hm. But I really like it....

good god, I can't get over this load of shit. This is laughable.

I know they struggled after Sampson left, but this is a joke.

I think the 8-seed is justifiable. Tough get for Carolina to play a very capable IU team in the 2nd round, but I think IU is in the 7-8 range....

Definitely agree. Their reaction was priceless.

:thumbsup Baylor's reaction was awesome....

IDK about Kentucky in over ASU not going to lie

Well here it is. UK and Zona, to me, are my biggest gripes. But when you look at the numbers, who can you rationally put in to replace those two? You can't :shrug

I think there's some fantastic matchups in there, but overall, pretty disappointing. Too many mid major/mid major matchups. And not like I'm complaining, but UCLA has a stroll straight through, if they play alright.

Mid-majors always play each other in the 1st round, and for the second straight year, there are 6 at-large teams from non-BCS conferences.

In the 07 tourney, non-BCS games included BYU/Xavier got matched up, Nevada/Creighton, Old Dominion/Butler. Maybe they don't want a ton of mid-majors advancing, so they match them up so half of them lose....

I'm sorry but if Zona wasn't in it would be a bigger shaft than any other team. They played the #1 SOS in the nation and were well over 500 and they also did it with out Bayless for a couple games and without a true point guard in nic wise for about 6. They battled ended up 8-10 in the best conference in America and played Kansas and Mephis too the wire. Not a huge gripe looking at it objectively

Bayless is sick. Wise is ok. I think Zona deserved a bid over ASU despite the head to head.Wise is not a superstar but he is a true point guard and makes Bayless that much better. His dribble drive and passes are what make him so valuable. He controls the ball and makes it easier for Bayless to score. Without him Bayless has to handle the ball and score which is too much folr him .

19-14? Not quite well over .500. I'm objective, since I really have no affiliation with them. In fact, I think the Mike Bibby Zona team was awesome, much respect for a Frosh PG to lead a team to a title.

Oh buddy. Now we got Vitale picking Georgia over Xavier. Man, if we got a guy on ESPN picking #14 Georgia over #3 Xavier, I guess we're never gonna get the respect that we deserve :shrug

Well to me, we went to Arizona State without the services of leading scorer, 6th Man of the Year, and "should've-been" 1st-Team all-A-10 Selection (actual 2nd team). He was still feeling it the next weekend when we lost to Tennessee. Drew Lavender has been hobbled since Feb. 13. While most would've sat out, Drew played. He struggled, but he played through it (and is still playing through it).

But again, Arizona is in, and should be, based only on the fact that there's nobody left on the bubble that deserve to be in ahead of them.

I kinda like being matched up with Georgia. They are getting all kinds of press, as they should be, for winning a very messed up SEC Tournament. That means Xavier is not the main story in the game. I like that....

One other thing of note. When Xavier went to its first Sweet 16 in 1990, we were beaten by Texas in the Regional Semis. Then, when we went back to the Sweet 16 in 2004, guess who we played? The Longhorns. And we beat them. Go on to the Elite Eight, and lose a tough one to Duke. As Father Graham (our school's President) said, just as we went up and through Texas to move on, he hoped that in the future, we would get a chance to move on by being able to go up and through Duke. Who's the 2-seed, potential Sweet 16 matchup? The Blue Devils....

You know, I almost want to put Stanford in the Final Four over Memphis, but I'm afraid that's just the PAC-10 homer in me saying that. But I've gotten a chance to watch them play probably 6 or so games this year, and they've impressed me every time. But so has Memphis.

I'm just too afraid to go against conventional wisdom. :lol
