I'm looking into buying some new floor monitors. I always seem to screw myself on purchases like this. What are your favorite brands and what do you think is the best punch for the price?

Depends on what you're using them for. If you don't mind spending some money you can by some JBL or Behringer powered speakers for around $400-300 resepectively. They're powered so you don't need power amps. They sound nice and are good for on the road. If you're looking for something passive, then look to the behringers. Great price and good sound! But if you go passive, remember you need the power amp which can cost you quite a pretty penny as well. The golden rule in the music industy: You get what you pay for.
