Hey all i was wondering what Dave songs i should play at the local coffee shop. Noone other than my friends really know much dmb so i need some good tunes to break them in with. Suggestions for songs from other bands would be good to.

My planned setlist:
One Sweet World
So Much to say
Grey Street
Say Goodbye
When the World Ends
#40>
Lie in our graves
Crush
Best of Whats Around
What would you say

Encore
Long Black Veil
Ants Marching

Thats what i have if i would play all dave.
Let me know what you think might be good
Peace
Keith

You are looking at 10 songs and two encores... are you playing by yourself or with a guest guitarist. If you are playing by yourself, how about something like this:

1. Dancing Nancies (Everyone tends to love this song solo)
2. Crush
3. Granny
4. So Much To Say
5. #41
6. Say Goodbye
7. Rapunzel
8. Bartender
9. The Song That Jane Likes
10. All Along the Watchtower --->
11. Halloween
---------------------
E1. Ants Marching
E2. Crash Into Me
E3. Don't Drink the Water

I like to choose songs that are interesting as complete songs without needing a buddy to jam with. The only sort of exception to this is Ants Marching... but everyone loves this song so much that you can probably handle the fills with vocal acrobatics.

The setlist you've chosen looks ok,

I would not do Halloween or Bartender, though. Just MHO.

I like the setlist but some of the songs i think i would need the full band to back me up for example
Rapunzel
Bartender
Dont Drink The Water
Evan though they are awsome songs
Although for some reason i cant get into Nancies for some reason that song just doesnt float my boat. Good list though Thanks for the suggestion i might do some changing

Do Watchtower, some people might know because of Dylan and Hendrix's versions. Do some popular songs to start off.Try Crash and Ants, just because the crowd might know them too.Once you get them into it, play some lesser known stuff that you like.

I've always wanted to do this, but didn't know how it would go. Let us know what happens.

I'd suggest not playing anything too harsh (halloween), and toning some things down (watchtower, DDTW, grey street). I think songs without a full guitar sound (WWYS, Rapunzel, WTWE) are gonna be a litle tough for a crowd who doesn't know the songs. If you add someone else, its that much harder to keep a beat, come up with backup parts, and depend on his solos to make or break some songs. For the most part, most dave songs you can do by yourself and sound pretty good, the set looks good.

Ending with Ants is always a great way to go for a non-hardcore crowd because almost anyone who listens to music knows the song, even if not by name. Playing some other artists is a good idea too, but I play -mostly- Dave just because it's fun to make up setlists and play stuff that wouldn't normally be played. I'm currently working on an LIOG ---> Jane ---> LIOG reprise, and it's just fun to do stuff like that.

Every band, including DMB, should play Africa and a Huey Lewis song at all concerts.
