I just knocked over my guitar (Takamine EG280. Black gloss, cutaway). It landed wrong which consequently made the head snap right off. I'm usually a well tempered guy, but as soon as it happened I lost it and took it in the hallway and smashed it against the brick wall. I suck, I want to cry, and I want to hit something.

thanks for letting me fume, guys.:goat

Kind of feel your pain. I dropped my Les Paul and broke off 3 of the tuning keys. I mean tore them slap out. The pain will go away in a few months.

Yeah, that raises a good question... what's a good guitar for around the $400-$600 range? I am kinda partail to the Taks.

Perhaps you need to a get a couple of stands, too.

Seriously, man. I just bought a heavy duty gig rack to hold three of my guitars because the stand alone single ones are easily knocked over, too.

What are you looking for in the new axe? Cutaway? Dreadnought? Acou/Elec? Now would be a good time to check your local shops out with new models coming in.... the retail side will be looking to move equipment.

There's sound advice in your previous quote, I was just pointing out the humor:freak :)
I'm looking for an electro-acoustic, cutaway. My recently departed Tak was a dreadnought body, although I don't know too much as far as what differences different body styles define. I'm currently looking at the Takamine EG531SC and the Taylor 314ce and 414ce.

If you like the bass-y sound of a dreadnought, then get a Taylor 310e, or 310ce. You may like Martin more. Go try a bunch out!

I would have done the exact same thing.

I have a Dean ac/el, I like it, everyone I know who plays it likes it, even if they have something like a Taylor, it was only 300 bills, check them out...I'll be getting a Martin or Taylor some day, but to actually get a real good one, you gotta get up past the 1,000 dollar mark in my opinion

I know it's like 3 days later or so, but i have to say you have made my evening so much better. I've been in a shitty mood all day and this just made everything so much better. This scene of yours would fit so perfectly in a comedy, and I think that's why I thought it was so funny...Seriously, picture Adam Sandler, a guy who plays guitar, sitting in his room and he accidently knocks over his guitar and snaps the head off, gets rage and just smashes it everywhere.

But i'm sorry about the incident. I did the same thing kinda...I have a gibson les paul standard, and i sat it on the stand and started to walk away, and somehow one of the tuners got snagged on the loop on the side of my cargo pants and it came crashing down and cracked the neck. There was no smashing that thing...especially in walls. Would have knocked my house down

^ seriously. There is way too much "Taylors rule over all" shit here. Play what sounds good to you and don't worry about what everyone else thinks.

Personal anecdote: When I was in my salad days, I spent more time on my skateboard than anything else. I was at a "hidden" ramp one day when a dude named Jeff showed up and started really tearing shit up. After about an hour or so he cracked his deck in half and borrowed this little kid's skate and kept on ripping. The kid's board was a Voltarra Jinn deck with crappy components as he was just getting into skating and didn't have a pro-model deck or anything.

Before he took off the dude shook hands with all of us, commented on our abilities to a man and said, "See? It's not the skateboard, it's the dude riding it."

I realized later that night, after reading through a Trasher magazine that the guy was Jeff Kendall who, at that time, was a pro skater with Santa Cruz. What he was doing in western New York I'll never know.

But I learned a lot about equipment and gear that day.

That couldn't be more inaccurate. You can get a FINE guitar for $600. Look into Larrivee, they are unreal. Just as good as Martin and Taylor but not as well known so they don't jack up their price becuase of what it says on the headstock.

Also, check out Tacoma for an affordible all solid acoustic guitar.

My Alvarez(about 30 years old) is aged to perfection. Sounds just as good as any Taylor I've ever played.

As do many other brands of guitars. I'm not contending that Taylor axes are not nice, I played four different ones today, in fact.

However, after playing a friend's Galloup, I would most likely spend the money on one of their models. He has a Northern Light and I've yet to hear something as sweet as that.

Well, I went to the local guitar conglomerate and tried some Taylors, Martins, Taks, and (to the incessant pushing from the associate) Ibanez guitars, and I must say the Martin felt the best (It was a DC-1E). It had such wonderful color and tone...
The associate told me that I'd might be better off getting an acoustic over an acoustic electric, his reasoning being that they sound better and the kind of playing I'd mostly be doing is unplugged, and if that ever changed putting an aftermarket would be just as good without sacrificing sound. Is this completely true?
