Aaron Rodgers is going to crucify the Bears Pass D next week.

Edit: Turrible, LOL. Nice, Mike.

No our pass rush is going to destroy him.....wait no oh yeah I forgot we have NO pass rush whatsoever.

This whole thing was worth bringing up for Bo's Ray Rice comment alone. But it looks like the only people who didn't hate the Forte pick were Tiduwho and myself. Now he's our best offensive player.

Plus the Brohm comment by gocubsgo is also a good one. As he couldn't beat out 7th round pick Matt Flynn for the backup spot in GB. Though I think Brohm reclaimed the #2 spot at one point.

Isn't Ray Rice the shit now too though? Yeah, fuck you.

Given what we know now about Kellen Davis being a freak? What say you? I'm quoting us from the actual draft because I think it's funny. Lots of golden stuff like this. I think Kellen Davis might actually turn out to be a better tight end (not receiver) then Greg Olsen. I'll never forget this one handed grab though in the pre-season. He's still got the body of an O-linemen though, even with all his speed.

Bo do you still feel good about Brennan? I know he had a solid pre-season, but so did the guy I suggested the Bears draft (though they obviously didn't draft him) in Caleb Hanie, who we signed as a undrafted free agent.

I may be wrong about Brennan being a total bust, because he looked more competent then I expected. Give that Bo, right now who would you take between Brennan and Hanie?

I might go back and find other things like this for us to discuss from the past, unless we want to talk about how we shit the bed all week against the Titans.

I would still take Brennan, any day of the week.

Honestly we should run a 0-6-5, who needs D-linemen when they do nothing anyways?
Isn't Ray Rice the shit now too though? Yeah, fuck you.
He's solid, and has ok hands. But he's pretty much a pure RB. Guys like that are never great RB's. He's not a 3 down back. Forte can and should be in on every down. Some of the blitzers he stopped from getting to Rex blew my mind. Guys were going full speed for Rex, and then it was like they hit a wall... but it was really Matt Forte.
Agreed. I'm just saying it also wouldn't have been a bad thing if we got Rice, asshole.
The whole point I loved about your post was that you said we now had 4 RB's who couldn't start. I know you don't think that now. But Forte is a special kind of running back. I honestly think we wouldn't be in 1st without Forte. Yes it would be a bad thing had we gotten Ray Rice with our 2nd round pick. Because then we'd be seeing something other team with Matt Forte, and we'd all say "Wow he was available when we took Rice."

Who says it's a fucking joke?

He might honestly be our best all around player. Good tackler, fast as hell, good hands, etc etc.

Just because there are 6th graders taller than him, doesn't make him any less amazing.

Everything Wolfe does, Forte is better at. Until it became apparent he could do something on special teams, he basically was useless to this team. He will never have been worth the 3rd round pick we used on him.

Wolfe was the dopeshit on special teams last year too. And Wolfe can be used as a 3rd down guy, because of how awesome his hands are. Shit, use him as a #4 or 5 WR too.

Wolfe is faster than Forte, this we know. Forte is a better RB though.

-Devin Hester Record Watch 07'-

Most Punt Returns in a Career
Current Record: 10, held by Eric Metcalf
Devin Hester: 7

Most Kick Returns in a Career
Current Record: 6, held by 5 players
Devin Hester: 4

Most Returns (Combined) in a Career
Current Record: 13, held by Brian Mitchell
Devin Hester: ~11

~Missed Field Goal Against Giants, and Super Bowl kick return don't count in the record books.

Most Punt Returns in a Season
Current Record: 4, held by Jack Christiansen, Rick Upchurch, and now Hester
Devin Hester 07': 4

Most Kick Returns in a Season
Current Record: 4, held by Travis Williams and Cecil Turner
Devin Hester 07': 2

Most Returns (Combined) in a Season
Current Record: ~6
Devin Hester 07': 6

~ Hester's 6 this year is the record for most combined kick returns in a year. He had 6 combined returns last year, but only 5 were kick returns. The other was the missed field goal return against the Giants.

*Hester is tied for the most kickoff returns, and and kick returns for Touchdowns in a game (2). Which he has done multiple times. The Punt Return for Touchdowns in a game is only 2 as well, which you'd have to believe he'll eventually break.
* First person to ever return the opening kickoff in the Super Bowl for a touchdown.
*Hester set a single-game franchise record with 314 Kick Return yards, which is second all time to the Saints Tyrone Hughes who had 347
*Hester set a single-game franchise record for Punt Return yards with 152, and he nearly tied it in Week 12 of the 07' season against the Broncos with 151 punt return yards.
*Has made the Pro Bowl both years in the league.
*Won Week 2 NFC Special Team Player of the Week, 4th time in Career
*Won Sept. NFC Special Team Player of the Month, 2nd time in Career
*Hester previously tied for the record for longest play (108 yards), but that record has since fallen.

Just went to ChicagoBears.com and got the inactives list, and I'm kind of surprised.

#12 - QB Hanie
#24 - CB Hamilton
#27 - RB Jones
#69 - T Miller
#75 - DT Toeaina
#85 - WR Bennett
#95 - DT Adams
#99 - DE Baldwin
So our 2nd string RB is inactive why? Just so Wolfe and Peterson can play special teams? How is that smart?

Also I'm sick of the SEC's All-time leader in receptions never getting to play. Honestly, he was a 3rd round draft pick. He's considered a really talented guy. He had a great pre-season and even returned a kick or punt for a touch down. I forget which, but why has he not been given a chance?

How's Orton looking?

I'm at work so I can't watch.

But I was just curious.
Cuz I was thinking about whether this was a good or bad idea to start him if he's not more healthy.
But then I thought about how although GB's Defense is not very good, they are very good at picking off passes and more importantly getting pick 6's.
Which could bode very badly for a guy with Rex's decision making playing against him.
Then I was glad Orton was starting. I was just hoping he could still be effective and not hurt himself any further.

Which could bode very badly for a guy with Rex's decision making playing against him.
Then I was glad Orton was starting. I was just hoping he could still be effective and not hurt himself any further.
I think Rex would have been about the same had he started. I know he missed guys in the last game, but the Titans are one of the top defenses in the NFL. Regardless Orton has looked ok, but not great.

5 for 10, 55 yards. But just like with any Bears QB, I think the receivers need to help out the QB sometimes and that never happens. Early on Orton was limping I thought he might come out. He was throwing to guys who were covered, but he seems to be getting better as the game goes along.

He's over thrown a guy or two, but overall there haven't been a ton of guys open.

They were talking about Orton on the Score earlier this week. That all his good games have come against bad defenses. The Bears are 1-3 against good defenses and 4-1 against bad ones.

I'm still mad we didn't get to see Orton against the Titans, because I still don't know what we have in him. We need to find out before the season is over, and we give him a huge contract.

I'd also like to know why Earl Bennett hasn't played yet, and if Orton is the guy hopefully we draft him some play makers.

Lovie Smith is the shittiest coach in professional football.

As a diehard lifelong fan of Bears football, I have watched Lovie Smith mismanage the clock for his entire tenure as coach of this team. Just a few minutes ago, Lovie's inability to manage a football game at the end of the half led to 3 easy points for Green Bay. In addition, he has absolutely NO control over these players. Not to sound like an old-school grumpy dude, which I am not considering I am 20 years old, but most of the guys on this defense are a bunch of spoiled pieces of shit. The things Urlacher and Harris have been saying to the media is a joke. A player who respects, looks up to, and maybe even fears their coach a little bit doesn't point fingers at other teammates and just give off a vibe of complete disrespect. Remember Tommie Harris' incredibly stupid move against Atlanta that may have lost us the game? when he flopped on a loose football and then just inexplicably lost it? Not a SINGLE word was said to him on the sidelines. In fact, there isn't a single word said to anybody on the sidelines. This guy flat out blows as a coach and mentor. And don't give me this "oh but he led them to the Super Bowl" garbage, because thats like saying Grossman led them to the super bowl, if you know what I mean. While if Lovie wanted to, he could tell Turner what to do. He really doesn't do that. Because Lovie being a defensive coach, doesn't know jack about offense.

In addition, he has absolutely NO control over these players. Contrary to popular belief, Lovie has yelled at his players. He doesn't do it often, and Lovie is never going to be a guy who is always screaming and yelling. That can only work for so often. These players are grown men will millions of dollars. Let me ask you this, I know you're only 20, but do you need your boss to yell at you everyday to do a better job? He has a ton of talent, but because he was a rookie, and lined up in the wrong defense in the Super Bowl (Mike Brown would always correct him earlier in the year, Chris Harris wasn't good at doing that because it was his second year.)

Ever since then they've been afraid to put him into his natural position. Which sucks, because he's a Pro Bowl talent there. I like Kevin Payne a LOT, but he's a strong safety. We have two strong safetys in Payne and Brown. Make Manning a Free Safety damnit.

I think it's kind of stupid to really take issue with Devin Hester and little issues like this. Yeah he's having a subpar season and isn't a great receiver, but that is the least of our worries. The real problems the team has is the absolutely terrible play calling and management of the game...bonehead mistakes from the coaches as well as the players; and the defense, which has been pretty bad. Mostly because of the secondary. I mean, they are just bad bad bad. NOBODY should give up 400+ yards to Brian Griese.

Granted, but people didn't want to give Rex a mulligan for not having started since like November 2007 when he played the top defense last week. They expected perfect timing and what not.

While I don't expect Orton to be perfect, if he's healthy enough to play on the ankle and take all the hits he's had. I'd imagine he considered himself healthy enough to throw like he normally does.

Since the opening drive, I haven't seen Orton limp at all. I think it's not bothering him now, but tomorrow might be a different story. Hopefully they don't make him practice this week so he's 100% for the Rams game.

I mean, I agree with you that we shouldn't put him in the position to have to catch a jump ball down the field like early in the game when he made that pass interference penalty, because he's way too small for that....However, I don't know why we aren't spreading the field and trying to create some space downfield to let Orton air it out more. Orton is at his best not on the short dump-off passes over the middle, but when he's throwing it down the field. I just don't get how we can have such a poor offensive game plan.

Actually Orton's short game has been considered his strength, but they haven't gone downfield because Green Bay has EXCELLENT corners. He'd probably get picked off a lot. They should still go down field by throwing down the seam by getting Olsen and Clark on the linebackers. That way you can go deep, but avoid the corners.

Though I still don't know why we don't send Hester on more fly routes.

I partially agree, but I personally think it is something a bit more. As each season comes and goes, I have started to hold the opinion that Tommie is a bit of a wierd guy/headcase. As a reader of all things Chicago Sports, do you recall the big-ass newspaper article prior to the 2006 season in, I think, the Tribune about Harris and how he was very, very close to calling it quits in football and focusing on his Christian faith? EDIT: I just remembered what it was! It was an article written about Harris BEFORE he went down with the injury in 2006. It was about how well he was doing, and all of that, probably when we were still undefeated. A portion of the article described the fact that it was "a season that almost never was" because Tommie nearly quit football prior to the season. That is it, and I am 100% sure haha

So with 6 games left, we've got a 3-way tie for the division and we have 2 left against the Vikings and Packers. Then have the Rams, Jaguars, Saints, and Texans. At least it's gonna be an entertaining end to the regular-season.

It was regarding your avatar. The South fought for their right to keep slaves. So they broke from the North and we had the civil war. You've made it pretty clear you support the south, which is the same as supporting slavery. Add that in with some of your Obama comments, and it rubbed a lot of people the wrong way.

No the Bears ruined him. He couldn't defend the run, and now he doesn't know how to pass rush anymore. Just like they screwed up D. Manning, honestly that draft amazes me.

2006 Draft Picks
Round 2 - Danieal Manning (S)
Round 2 - Devin Hester (WR/KR/PR)
Round 3 - Dusty Dvoracek (DT)
Round 4 - Jamar Williams (LB)
Round 5 - Mark Anderson (DE)
Round 6 - J.D. Runnels (FB)
Round 6 - Tyler Reed (OG)

Honestly everyone but Runnels and Reed were extremely talented. Your first 5 round draft picks should all be starting. We screwed up Manning so badly I can't believe it. We turned the most explosive player in the NFL to a so-so receiver. Dusty just got hurt too much, but he doesn't even look as good as he did to start the season. Why is Roach starting over Jamar?! Mark Anderson was a VERY special pass rusher, we ruined him.

Orton sucks and makes the offense look anemic, put Rex is for crying out loud. How many overthrown/underthrown balls did Orton have yesterday? His best completions were those short ones where the receiver ran after the catch and avoided tackles. It is a complete waste of time to keep Orton in the game once he starts.:)

In all fairness to Orton, he had no business starting. He was limited in the type of throws he could make. There were FOUR JUST FOUR completions to receivers in yesterdays game. How is that possible?

The scary thing about that? Two of those passes were from Rex. One to Lloyd, and the other to Hester. So Orton played basically the entire game, and managed 2 passes to wide receivers. That's sad, and tells me he was not healthy. Which you could see on the first drive.

Now since we rushed Orton back out there, it looked like he tweaked the ankle some at times. You have to wonder if A.) He'll be available for the St. Louis game and B.) If we even want him out there. Kyle Orton with one leg is not better then Rex.

I know some in here like to give Rex shit. Consider he hadn't started since Nov. 2007 and still did ok against an elite defense in the Titans. The Packers weren't an elite defense. It was very obvious from Rex two series, he was able to get away from the pressure. Orton was a sitting duck, probably re-aggrivated his injury. He didn't have any touch, and that's how we wound up with 13/26 for 133 Yards (5.1 AVG).

BotheDMBFan
11-17-2008, 01:47 PM
In all fairness, Hester especially, dropped or just missed A LOT of easy passes. I didn't see Rex play (They switched the game, thank the fuck Christ) but I hear that he did OK.

I don't know how you can say the team did anything to screw up Hester. He just hasn't been that good this year. You can't put that on the team. You have to lay the responsibility on the player once in a while...he just hasn't had the explosiveness on the kick and punt returns and isn't made to be a big time receiver. I think they should utilize his quickness on offense more, because he can lose defenders pretty well with his quick moves, but I still don't think you can say that the team has had much of anything to do with Hester's season.
