Maybe Caleb Hanie should be given a shot at the starting job!?!?!?

The full starting offense was only in for 8 plays so I wasn't surprised by the outcome and I think the Bears will be fine.

Knox and Aromashadu are gonna be good this year. Kalhil Bell actually looked pretty slick out there I'd like to see him take a few more.

Hillenmeyer and Hanie being out is not a good thing. God forbid Urlacher or Cutler get injured.

And I might still be worried about the O-line and run blocking.

Sucks I'm likely going to miss the Bears game Saturday night pouring beer at Venetian Fest here in Lake Geneva. Though...we have a plasma TV set up above one of the trailers. Bears start at 7:30, Packers not until 9:00. Perhaps they'll let some Bears football onto the TV in the interim.

We'll see though, Packers fans (especially random drunk guys in the crowd) might start saying "Hey, uhh, the Bears suck. What the shit is this. Why isn't the Packers game on?" "Because it's not until 9:00" "So fuckin what? Turn on the Packers game, the Bears suck."

Bears looked great at times, and terrible at times. Peppers got poked in the eye or something, but came right back into the game and looked great. Tommie Harris looked like Tommie Harris from 2006. Hopefully that chop block didn't have any long lasting effect. He limped off the field. Urlacher should be fine as well.

Chris Williams needs to work on bending his damn knees. That's why he was letting guys get around him. Playing too tall and these DE's were just going right under his arms. Lance Louis was very inconsistent. Some great blocks and some others where he let a guy get right by him. Omiyale quietly had a solid game.

Forte has his speed back. I mean his 89 yard run would be a career long if it counted. His previous was 61. He had guys chasing him and they didn't gain any ground. So it looks like he's fully back from the MCL sprain last year.

We could pull off 5:

V.s. Lions
V.s. Seahawks
V.s. Redskins
@ Bills (Toronto)
@ Lions

But seriously lets not over react to pre-season. There's plenty of times where teams look very bad or very good and it winds up the exact opposite. At least if we pull off 4-12 maybe Lovie will finally get fired.

Could only hope. If you told me right now Chris Williams will be average I'd be a lot less worried about the season. He looked good at the end of last season, but has been really inconsistent to just plain bad this pre-season. If he can be average then I think the Bears will be ok.

In 1985 Chicago started 0-3 in the preseason too...

Both Chester Taylor and Julius Peppers looked great.

It's the preseason. Could we go 5-11? Sure. 11-5...maybe. Our schedule looks tough. But, who knows how our opponents will pan out.

The Bears have issues, but in reality if the O can do better in the Red Zone and the D can do better on 3rd down, this team could do well.

I do have 1 question...can Hester catch? All off season everyone was worried about him learning the "Martz" system...but I honestly have my doubts this guy has the hands to play WR. Even back when they first started using him a WR he dropped big balls. I don't know if I've ever witnessed him make a great catch. Easy catches, yeah. Quick catches, yeah. Important catches, occasionally. I don't know... It seems almost "Raiderish" to start a converted CB just because he can return kicks. Could the reason he played CB is because he had so-so hands his whole life? He's ok at WR. But, I am started to become numb to his "potential" at WR....

edit...ironically the last time the Bears went 0-4 in the preseason was Wannys final year as coach...according to Larry Mayer

so hopefully we beat the Brown so we can go 1-3 like in '85...wishful thinking

I always characterized Garza as a good solid stand-in. Your standard "average" guard that isn't going to hurt you during the season. But it seems like he has been making more mistakes over the past year, and in this preseason.

Anyone have any personal Cutler stories?

Jay Cutler, Bears
The Reverse Tebow: all the tools, none of the intangibles. You had to admire how he handled the offseason, after Roethlisberger supplanted him as the league's premier QB villain, so he spent the spring and summer having horrible interactions with Chicago fans -- seriously, out of any athlete since I started writing for ESPN, nobody has spurred more of my readers to e-mail me a "Hey, I never do this, but I have to tell you about what happened last night" celebrity-bashing e-mail than Jay Cutler -- then upped the ante by reportedly falling for Kristin Cavallari (the resident b---- on "The Hills"). Next up for Cutler: either becoming best friends with Kourtney Kardashian's deadbeat husband, or doing all news conferences while wearing a white cap, white pants and a blue sportscoat with an anchor on it so he looks like William Kennedy Smith. -Bill Simmons

You guys still trying to talk yourselves into Jay Cutler?

I think you incorrectly assume the nature of the comparison. The comparison applies in that George and Cutler are/were physically talented QBs but greatness eluded/eludes both because of physchological make-up (apparent poor leadership qualities and, lets just say odd behavior off the field) and being perceived as a bad teammate.

Where am I so obviously wrong in that comparison that I, as you definitively claim, "lack Jay Cutler knowledge, lack knowledge of Jeff George, and overall lack knowledge of NFL history"?

Cutler has had ONE terrible year, and it had it due with lack of a supporting cast more than anything. Maybe he will continue to be terrible, but I see nothing wrong with the numbers he put up in Denver.

Perceived as a bad teammate? By who? Jeff George was hated by everyone on his own team. He was hated by the media who he treated awfully. The guy has literally spit on reporters. Cutler doesn't do any of that stuff. I don't see any ex-Bronco's coming out to talk about how they don't like Jay. Cutler still has tons of friends on the Bronco's, and went to B. Marshall's wedding this summer. I doubt if he was this terrible teammate he'd be invited.

Cutler's best friend is Greg Olsen, who is on the team. I've never heard anyone on the Bears say anything bad about him. Now I doubt most would ever say anything bad, but you figure someone would if he was Jeff George bad. Or at least isay nothing when asked about him which isn't the case.

On the field they both have strong arms, but that's it. George wasn't a mobile guy like Cutler. They are completely different QB's. While Cutler makes a lot of weird/odd faces on the sidelines, and sometimes even on the field. The guy at least plays the game like he cares. Not sure if you can say that about George. So while it may turn out that Cutler is another QB who sucks for the Bears. He is in no way shape or form Jeff George.

Cutler and George both have/had serious arms. That is where the comparison ends.

I'm all for breaking one off on Cutler and harassing Zepp. But, at least try and come up with something that requires thought and/or know what your talking about. When you just repeat people say on the radio/tv without and insight it's pretty weak.

"greatness eluded/eludes both because of physchological make-up (apparent poor leadership qualities and, lets just say odd behavior off the field) and being perceived as a bad teammate. "

His "psychological" make-up? "Odd" behavior off the field? "Bad" teammate? You're a regular joe, like me. Not a Dr., personal friend, or co-worker of either Cutler of George. Repeating what other people say and pulling stuff out of your ass doesn't really sway anybodies opinions...

Oh and I know the Pats is probably a game many don't think we'll have a chance, but they're not very good. Welker is coming off a big injury, and that defense is old and slow. If it was in New England I'd feel differently.

I also think the Panthers will be bad given their QB situation. We should be able to split with the Vikings. Some of what Favre has said sounds like a guy who wants to retire. It's very possible Rice and Harvin don't play much this season. Totally different team with two of them out, and the other hobbling.

old and slow? maybe 3 years ago, but this defense is young...they have 2 rookie corners, mayo is in his 2nd year (missed most of last season) Chung and merriweather are both second year players as well.

Welker is coming off a big injury, but edelman is right there to pick up the slack if there is any and the offense is only going to be better with the addition of crumpler and gronkowski

Patriots allowed 17.8 ppg last season. 5th best in the NFL. They have a few injuries this year but pretty much the same defense plus Mayo is healthy. So what are we basing this bottom 5 defense on?? and "Pre-Season" is not a good answer. Teams don't even prepare for certain teams during the pre-season they just go out there and play a base defense. Will they be top 5 in ppg again??...probably not. But bottom 5 easy????...Nope. It seems some of you here are just trying to gather up reasons to why this mediocre Bears team can beat certain teams. I don't see them beating The Packers, Vikes, or Pats.

Pretty much how I see it. Could be fucking awful and borderline unwatchable, could be fairly exciting and contend for a division that I think will be pretty open. I'm intrigued by the defense. Couple nice additions, seemingly healthy Tommie Harris, and I'm a big fan of Pisa.

I think, at the very least, it will be an interesting year. Which will probably lead to an 8-8 record and completely whiffing on the playoffs but whatever. :lol

Jesus Christ catch that f'n TD!! Wow never thought I'd catch myself rooting for da Bears. Why did Cutler have to drop to me in the 10th lol
I feel your pain, minus that I would anyways, Matt Ryan went the pick right before mine in fantasy. Wound up with Cutler and that dropped TD hurt.

i'm actually semi-concerned about what the detroit receivers are capable of doing to us if stafford can make some throws

Just checked Twitter. Mostly bad stuff about Cutler, but one national guy from Yahoo surprisingly not so harsh.

YahooSportsNFL (http://twitter.com/YahooSportsNFL) Cutler made a bad decision on that INT, but his WRs are killing him. Aromashodu dropped a TD already, & they aren't getting separation.

That's not selling the future. Especially since one of those 1st rounders likely would have been spent on a QB anyways. The reason the Bears suck is because they can't draft period. We cut two recent 3rd rounders before this season. One of them in Igleasias was only active one game as a rookie last season, and never caught a pass.

In that trade for Cutler? We got back a pick that turned into Johnny Knox. There's no guarantee those two first rounders would be better than Jay Cutler and Johnny Knox.

Great actually. Three 3 and outs already. We had them stopped on the TD drive, but Peppers got called for roughing the passer.

Blocking a player out of bounds is a 15 yard penalty now? Thought it was 10. Hmmm...that was bad though by Rashied Davis.

I agree with that 100%. You need a new GM.

My feeling is you build the bulk of your team through the draft, and patch needs with FA's when you are finally talent-laden. Sometimes I forget that it is hard to find a QB, being the Packers have been blessed at that position for almost 20 years.

DMBZeppelin
09-12-2010, 01:58 PM
I didn't know this, but Bradd Biggs on Twitter:

Todd Collins warming up on sideline. #Bears (http://twitter.com/search?q=%23Bears) QB Jay Cutler took a good hit from Kyle Vanden Bosch.

(couple minutes later)

Jay Cutler is fine. He is coming out for this drive.

DMBZeppelin
09-12-2010, 01:59 PM
Why does Olsen do that? Stop running and try to cut. He obviously doesn't have that move. Just keep running till you go out of bounds, you might get a couple more yards.
