like i said, i don't think he's had lots of time, i just think early in the game he had no idea how to deal with it. he's doing better now. he has adjusted and isn't even trying to hold on to the ball a long time so it is working.

you need to adjust he had time to make throws early in the game, but he got hit and sacked because he was looking for more time. now he knows he's not getting it and he's adapted to the situation

We need Martz to call a smart game here on out. The key to this entire game was that first TD drive. Once we showed we could pick them apart on quick passes they stopped blitzing. That TD pass to Olsen was basically on the first step off his backfoot. If that's what it takes, keep showing that from time to time. I don't want Martz to get too hell bent on stretching the field. If he gets stuck on that we'll get blitzed and continue to suck.

I like how the offense looked. I am a little worried that we are rellying a little much on some huge plays to get us points (although that is football).

Im worried about what happened in the Lions game though, we had the opprotunity to score several more touchdowns or field goals and they were wasted efforts because the O-Line couldnt get it done.

Their front seven is beastly, and they have a great corner in Newman. They're a good D, and once Cutler figured them out with Martz using all of those motions to give Jay time to read the defense, he was able to just fling it out.

I'd have to say yes. Because he put up those numbers with that pressure, with what many consider lesser talent as a supporting cast. Most QB's who work under those conditions fail. Some Cowboys players agree:

The 2009 Cutler threw 4 interceptions in his first 74 attempts, or one every 18.5 passes. The 2010 Cutler has thrown 1 interception in his first 65.

All four of those interceptions, not coincidentally, came against the Green Bay Packers. The Bears lost that game despite Cutler throwing for 277 yards – the same total he achieved against Dallas, but with no interceptions and a decidedly different outcome.

Instead of forcing throws into places he shouldn’t, Cutler has become a quarterback willing to throw a ball to an equipment cart, if the cart’s the only guy open. The difference is not in Cutler’s arm, but rather his head.

“Every quarterback matures a little bit as their career goes on,” Cutler acknowledged while explaining the different “types” of throw-aways he was called on to make. “The throwaways against Dallas, I didn’t really have a choice. It wasn’t like I sat there and sat there and didn’t have anybody open. I was flushed out of the pocket, so that’s a little bit different. We’re still taking chances in this offense, we’re still pushing the ball down there, we’re still throwing it through some tight windows….

“ sacks and throwing it away, that’s part of it. That’s a 10-yard loss, and a sack’s going to be better than a turnover. Take either one of them.”

Cutler is leading the NFL with a 121.2 passer rating. But the size of the number is not as important as another aspect of how the Bears’ quarterback is playing.

Cutler was one of the NFL’s worst fourth-quarter passers in 2009, ranking 26th with his 73.4 passer rating in fourth quarters. His eight interceptions led the NFL for fourth-quarter picks.

Against Dallas, with the game in the balance, Cutler was 5-for-5. With the Bears trailing 14-13 in the fourth quarter against Detroit, Cutler was 6-for-9.

In neither fourth quarter did he throw an interception. In both fourth quarters, he threw for a deciding touchdown. Cutler ranks second only to Peyton Manning (157.0) in fourth-quarter passing at 148.5.

Cutler, however, is spreading credit around nearly as well as he does the ball.

“We’re getting there,” Cutler said. “It’s a process, still. I think we’re all still learning offensively – receivers and tight ends and running backs and Mike [Martz] himself is learning about us, so it’s definitely still a process.”

The 2009 Cutler threw 4 interceptions in his first 74 attempts, or one every 18.5 passes. The 2010 Cutler has thrown 1 interception in his first 65.

All four of those interceptions, not coincidentally, came against the Green Bay Packers. The Bears lost that game despite Cutler throwing for 277 yards – the same total he achieved against Dallas, but with no interceptions and a decidedly different outcome.

Instead of forcing throws into places he shouldn’t, Cutler has become a quarterback willing to throw a ball to an equipment cart, if the cart’s the only guy open. The difference is not in Cutler’s arm, but rather his head.

“Every quarterback matures a little bit as their career goes on,” Cutler acknowledged while explaining the different “types” of throw-aways he was called on to make. “The throwaways against Dallas, I didn’t really have a choice. It wasn’t like I sat there and sat there and didn’t have anybody open. I was flushed out of the pocket, so that’s a little bit different. We’re still taking chances in this offense, we’re still pushing the ball down there, we’re still throwing it through some tight windows….

“ sacks and throwing it away, that’s part of it. That’s a 10-yard loss, and a sack’s going to be better than a turnover. Take either one of them.”

[B]Picking his times as well as spots

Cutler is leading the NFL with a 121.2 passer rating. But the size of the number is not as important as another aspect of how the Bears’ quarterback is playing.

Cutler was one of the NFL’s worst fourth-quarter passers in 2009, ranking 26th with his 73.4 passer rating in fourth quarters. His eight interceptions led the NFL for fourth-quarter picks.

Against Dallas, with the game in the balance, Cutler was 5-for-5. With the Bears trailing 14-13 in the fourth quarter against Detroit, Cutler was 6-for-9.

In neither fourth quarter did he throw an interception. In both fourth quarters, he threw for a deciding touchdown. Cutler ranks second only to Peyton Manning (157.0) in fourth-quarter passing at 148.5.

Cutler, however, is spreading credit around nearly as well as he does the ball.

“We’re getting there,” Cutler said. “It’s a process, still. I think we’re all still learning offensively – receivers and tight ends and running backs and Mike [Martz] himself is learning about us, so it’s definitely still a process.”
