I really dont think the season is over by a long shot.
First of all, I dont get these 6-8 week predictions for him being out. He finished the game? How can it possibly be that bad?

But look at the schedule.
Oakland, KC, Broncos, the Seachickens, Pack, Vikes.

I dont see how we couldn't win at least 3, quite possibly 4 of those with good defense, good running, and a few completed passes. Lets not forget Hanie got a TD on the Superbowl champs in the NFC Championship game last year, hes not terrible, just not Cutler.

Please excuse me while I rant like a 7th-grader:
Fucking fuck mutherfucking shit.

Now that that's been said,
Fuck. Cutler? The season has been going so well. We were playoff bound. We could get to the NFC Championship again. Damn it. Caleb Hanie is no Cutler, he can't play with that line.

I'm trying to think exactly what Lovie must be thinking. Need to rely on the running game, thank God we finally developed Forte. Defense needs to make turnovers and hold on 3rd down. Knox and Hester need to make solid returning yards. And Williams needs to stop dropping the ball so we can keep open 4 or 5 receivers. If that all happens, we can hopefully beat the Chiefs, Seahawks, and Vikings, maybe either the Broncos or Raiders. So that'd be either 10-6 or 11-5? Gah, the idea of a 13-3 season is gone. Playoff hope is diminished, and I am borderline tearing up writing this.

Did I say fuck yet?

We want the division leading Giants to win. Not a potential wild card team to pull closer. Unless you mean we should all become Eagle fans.

Eagles are done. We have a 4 game+ lead on them when you include the tiebreaker. We want the Giants to lose because we want the whole NFC East to be in crap-tacular shape. If the Cowboys got hot and surpassed the Giants, then we certainly want the Giants record down. We want both the Giants and Cowboys to be bad, otherwise the other is still in the wild card race. Keep them both out and irrelevant when it comes to the wild card.

This is a much different case than the Saints in the NFC South. There, because of the tiebreaker especially, the more games they are separated from the Falcons and Bucs, the better. Bucs are done now too though.

Looking at conference records, the Giants losing last night was HUGE. Their conference record is 3-4 compared to the Cowboys 5-2. The Bears' is 6-3. That means we have the tie breaker over the Giants as things currently stand, but not the Cowboys (damnit Rex!).

Bears have effective 4 game leads over the Eagles, Bucs, and Seachickens, so we can just about count them all out.

Bears have an effective 2 game lead over the Falcons. And 1 game (would be 2 game lead at the moment) over the Giants.

Bears control the #6 seed handily. I just want to see the Giants, Lions, and Falcons lose more.

I'm sold on Hanie.

I don't see and other viable option. No Free Agent QBs present an upgrade. This is what back-up QBs are for. He's in football shape. He's practiced with the Bears WRs.

I'm assuming at this point he is indeed a servicable back-up.

If the 2005 Bears could make it to the playoffs with a rookie Kyle Orton starting, I have confidence that a kid like Caleb can minimize his mistakes enough to steal some victories.

And you're telling me Hanie is gonna do any better than a veteran. Veterans at least have to the consciousness to sense when the pocket is collapsing or sensing a backdoor sack.

What I imagine happening is Hanie getting owned in the pocket and throwing interceptions all day.

I am not very confident with Hanie with our line. Our line has been playing better but you also need to factor Cutlers elusiveness, which Hanie does not have.

Zaidman was just on the Score.

He said the Bears got the best possible news from the specialist. They were told he could be 100% by the playoffs. He'd likely be back by the Vikings game if there's no setbacks or complications. So right now we have to pray surgery goes well and it heals correctly.

Mannely is on IR and they waived Addison. Lovie did say they'd sign a veteran QB. We have two roster spots. Obviously need a new long snapper. Zaidman says bringing back Dan LeFevor is a possibility. He's on the Colts practice squad and knows the offense. He said he keeps hearing Bulger rumors, but not buying into it. He thinks he retired because he doesn't have football left in him, and you need a mobile QB for this o-line.

I think LeFevor makes a lot of sense. Not because he's the best option. How realistic is it for a veteran to learn this playbook from scratch? If Hanie gets hurt someone not named Enderle will need to go in.

I agree.

Bulger is long gone. He's looked shell shocked for years. His arm is suspect at very best. He hasn't been a winner since before Rex Grossman let Chicago to the Super Bowl.

Hopefully Chicago doesn't him. That will give Martz an excuse to take Hanie out. Then we can watch Bulger get crippled while sitting the pocket.

Hanie is clearly Chicago's best bet to go 3-3 or 4-2 and make the playoffs. If it were pre-trade deadline, then it would be a different story. But, some rusty old QB off the street is such a downgrade over the athletic and hungry Hanie.

Plus it's a contract year for Hanie. these next few games are the most important of his career.

Hanie for president? I mean I haven't kept track of his career other than knowing he already knows this offense.

That being said I don't think we'll be passing as often without Cutler anyway so I guess it wouldn't really matter much with the passing game.

I don't think we should bring someone else in. I think we should stick with Hanie, but what I meant was that I not as confident in him as everyone else is. I'm picturing a rocky start for him.

The good thing about this is that Hanie knows this offense fairly well. He's had a little in-game experience and hopefully he starts feeling it after the first couple games.

I see us going 3 -3 maybe 4 - 2 with Hanie.

But, something about neckbeard and cutty on the Bears together makes me smile. Plus, it would be an amazing storyline in the NFL this season.

Ok, i have some crazy totally unconfirmed rumors.

I was told that Orton specifically asked for his release because of the confirmation of Cutler's injury. I also was heard that he his agent has been discouraging possible teams from claiming him.

Take it for what it's worth. Supposedly that came from somebody who works in Denver, not Chicago. So even though it easily could be fabricated...might as well as some fuel to the fire while I can...

This is old news. Came from Denver Post reporter. Said Orton was content to ride out the season, but then Cutler got hurt. He let it be known he wants to go to Chicago. I doubt he refuses to go anywhere he has a legit shot to play.

I doubt it too. I'm assuming if he gets claimed and doesn't show he's losing out on a good portion if not all of the money he would make. Financially it would be strange to sit out because you weren't claimed by the team that traded you away...

But, I'm on the edge of my seat eitherway.

It'll be interesting to see what happens this weekend, for sure. It's a game that we can probably afford to lose, but the Raiders are not that great and have given up 25.4 points per game this season. Not exactly the most stifling defense out there. But it will be a good measuring stick for Hanie.

This is not the end. Seahawks, Vikings, and Chiefs should be possible for Hanie. Maybe Oakland or Denver. I'm pretty sure a loss to GB is inevitable now. Falcon's will get wild card 1 with 11-5 , Detroit falls to 9-7, Giants 8-8, Bears get second wild card with 10-6 or 11-5. That's how I want it to play out.

Hanie has made some fucking stupid throws. So much for managing the game. But 2 of those picks shouldnt have even happened because the coaching staff really blew it on the previous play. That play where Hanie threw it away and went out of bounds absolutely should have been challenged by Lovie. Cost them 7-8 yards there. And that play call inside the red zone for a screen??? What? 2nd and inches with a timeout and you don't run the ball. Just fucking moronic play calling.

Yeah Fuck the Lions. I used to kinda think they were cool cuz they sucked so much and then they get a little spark winning 5 games in a row and think they are kings. Yeah well guess what the Lions still suck and their team is full of shit.. and fucking Jim Schwartz asshat running around screaming like a bitch doesn't help.
