It's cheap, and its all you really need. You can go through your amp first as well. If you have a preamp, you can also use that to get some reverb etc. or add those effects later. Hope that helps. :) If you have anymore questions, feel free to IM me: DMBGuitar718

a little off topic, but if i wanted to use a digital recorder without relying on my computer... what would you recommend?

I'm not sure how the electric would sound hooked straight into the computer, I'm sure it sounds great but i know an alternative that will not your socks off. I have a taylor 314 nonelectric and what i do to record on my computer is i hooked up a condenser mic next to the guitar and it really captures the tone and subtleness that sometimes you don't find in the preamp or an electric. Just a suggestion.

that's true. mic's are always better because they do capture the real sound of the guitar better. i'd go with the line in deal first and then save money for a very good mic later on.

it depends what price range your looking at. if you want a real nice one that have built in effects and everything, its going to be around $300.

i'll post a link in a sec.

theres one option, but i suggest going to the store and trying some out. look on ebay as well, usually you can get used equipment for a considerably cheaper price

i have this one, its got very good sound quality for the price and has lots of effective features (like bouncing) but the prob is the 128mb card...i HIGHLY recommend a 512mb card since the 128mb is very limiting with more than 4 tracks.....also only one 512 card works with it that i know of and its by riDATA and the only place i know to get it is meritline.com.....you gotta shell out about $125 for it, but its 4Xs the memory

That's what I was just going to say. If you get the Fostex, shell out the money for the upgraded memory. I've heard the Fostex was a pretty sweet little machine. Boss also has an interesting one, but it's $495.

Zoom has a nice digital recorder with a 20 GB HD. Runs around $600, though.
