I just bought a new taylor 310 ce with the ES. But, it seems that the G string hums very lightly when i play it and it sounds like it is always being muted. Anyone know what would cause something like this. I does not seem to be hitting any of the frets so im at a loss.

just play the hell out of it, if it doesnt get better restring it and if that doesnt work have your local guitar place take a look at it

ill try that
Does this only happen when plugged in? Does it happen with any fretted G's (sometimes these things are a resonance problem).

It happens when its not plugged in... and the fretted g string still sounds muted.

Friend of mine had this trouble on his B string with a Takamine. I ended up having to file and glue a new nut for him.
First, try new strings. If no dice, check the saddle for any unusual flatness or if the nut has any burrs in the slot.
If it just seems quieter than the rest of the strings, it may be an overtone problem. Make sure you're in tune first. Try playing a fretted G on the E string and watch the open G string. If the overtone is true, you'll see the open G string start vibrating when you strike the lower G. If you don't see the open string move, it could be any number of problems rooting down to an imperfection somewhere in the soundboard or in the bracing. It's a rare problem but can plague a guitar.
