Hey everyone, how's it going? I know this is one of the easiest songs to learn, but I am having trouble with it. I'm only working on the intro right now. I can play the E and G strings seperataly with no problem, but when I put them together that's when I run into problems. Just wondering if anyone had any advice. I know it's a dumb question....but was just wondering. Thank you everyone

I can play the song pretty well, but I am not sure I have enough information... what exactly is giving you the problem? The muting? The rhythm? Hopefully I can help.

Everyone, thank you very much for your help :) I'm going to try these tips. I am new to guitar...so I think I need to be more patient. Guitar is so much fun, I just can't wait to get better :) Thanks for the help everyone, I appreciate it.

I just figured out how to play this the other day (I had tried a while ago and given up early on it). Once you figure out how to strum the verse section it's not hard at all. I played it on a 12 string in a music store today and it sounded a lot better than on my six though.

It's just like tripping billies intro (not nature well like that too with muting the A string but...)
and you can play it like dave does, using all four fingers:
ring on the E string and pink(e)y on the G string for the first (7th fret on E string)chord and third (5th fret on E string) chord.
And for the second (3rd fret on E string) and last (2nd fret on E String) chords you use your pointer on the E and your middle on the G. This might make it easier going from the second and third chords.
or just pick two fingers you like and use them, what ever makes it easier.

That's quite true, you can do it at least 3 different ways. Try them and pick the one that works best for you. I have relatively short fingers so I use just 2 fingers (usually the index and middle, but I can do middle and ring as well saving the index for other things).

I have little to no stretching ability. As far as the verse goes I use my thumb on the E string and my ring finger on the G. It's kinda a wrap around technique. Works for me! :)

i like playing Grey Street real slow and soft, without a pick, I think you get a different feel out of it. If you can't really get it the way Dave plays, try that. Anyone else do this?
